  1. The archetypal serial killer role is a role that has as goal to be the last player remaining alive. He also usually has a kill to help him achieve that goal.
  2. The existence of secret factions/roles/whatever is a bit of an open secret, given that elenion very clearly called the rules section in the rules "Known Roles". That is not guarantee there actually are any, but it does make you wonder. I don't think there's a 'Jester' type role though, because part of the fun and difficulty of the Jester is that everyone knows there is a jester. If no one knows there is, it suddenly becomes quite easy to full-fill that particular win-con, while the general reaction from the players upon finding out is "How could we have done anything to stop this?", rather than "Well played", which is generally speaking a bad reaction. Usually roles have counter-play. You know, 'wipe out all the elims to stop their killing' or 'have guards guess the target correctly'. For a jester, the counterplay would be 'Make sure someone isn't intentionally trying to get lynched', but that only works if we know that the jester is a role. I'm going to take another read through the thread in a bit to see if I want to move my vote. I can't guarantee that I can make up my mind before the cycle is over, however, so this isn't a promise of another post. Vote tally Manukos(2): asterion, Steeldancer, Doc Steeldancer(3): Alvron, Orlok, Manukos Mestiv(1): Randuir Alvron(1): Mestiv
  3. Allright, I've gone through the entire thread forwards and backwards, and have taken notes on just about everyone. lets'get started. First of all, there's this group of people that I've got a neutral read on because they just haven't posted enough for me to say more: @Jondesu, @Megasif, @asterion137, @Sony and @Straw. I'd like all of you to try and contribute more, if at all possible. @Steeldancer: I don't have a particularly strong read on Steeldancer either, but that's because I've jsut been seeing some conflicting things from him. His village read on Orlok felt really odd to me at first, but his reference to how Orlok behaved when they where both elims is and adequate explanation. He's also been looking into Alvron and stating suspicion about whether Alv's insanity is just a ploy to avoid scrutiny. AT the moment I've still got a neutral read on him. If Alv is an elim, Or Orlok is indeed village I will lean more vilalge on him, and vice-versa @Alvron: I got a sudden burst of inspiration and put all of Alvron's random musings together. This, unfortunately, revealed nothing new. As I explained above, I think it means something that the elims didn't put Alvron in a tie situation with the votes. Worst case scenario, Alvron would appear to be cleared good, but that could be fixed relatively easily. An alternative explanation for this could be that the elim politician had actually already voted and couldn't back out of that vote without looking suspicious. Overall I don't have any sort of read on Alvron, but I wouldn't mind lynching him at this point to find out about his alignment, as that might shed some light on some of the others that have voted on him. @Doc12: Doc has broken his vow to return before the end of C2 and vote! For this crime, eh deserves to be lynched! In all seriousness though, Doc has posted some nice RP, and has provided some insight in his suspicions and lack of suspicions, as well as some speculation on the hidden mechanics. I also think he'd have been more active and aggressive in voting if he was an elim, so I've got a slight village read on him. @queensteph: Saying that you believe a villager to be innocent after his lynch is risky, as it would make people wonder whether you're just saying this after the fact to make yourself look village without actually stopping a mis-lynch. I'd say Queensteph is good enough to know this, so I don't think she would have said what she did at the start of this cycle if she where an elim. Slight village read. @Drake Marshall: As I said before, he made a decent argument about why DA would have been the elims target. This was something I'd been overlooking myself, as I believed BR must have been the elim target given the fact that DA hadn't posted in the thread at all. Orlok did make a good argument about the nobles doing more to save Lemon if things where as Drake suggested. However, In the opposite case, I'd have expected some kind of response from the nobles if Drake was completely wrong as well, so I'm not sure if this means anything. I do hope Drake's got a couple more of those insights lying around, as opposed to more word-salad. Slight village read. @Manukos: Okay, what's up with saying that you are an elim? An elim wouldn't out himself like that, but the statement also caused distraction and chaos, which wouldn't be a village thing to do either. I'm really confused here.@Orlok Tsubodai: I'm not going to put a read on Orlok, as he's one of those people I have trouble reading. Overall, though, he is one of the main drivers of discussion, which means I'd like to keep him around for a bit longer. If he does eventually prove to be evil, there'll be more from him to analyze and use to find others. Overall though, Orlok's insights have been good, and he's doing his best to drive discussion. Unfortunately these things aren't particularly alignment indicative form him. This post by Mestiv feels very off. It feels forced to me, like he's writing the opposite of what he's thinking and overcompensating for that. I've got an elim read on him because of that. @Roadwalker: I haven't got much on roadwalker, but if Orlok proves to be evil, he's one of the first I'd look at, because of this post: I might be wrong, but this post almost feels like it's meant to go with mestiv's to promote the idea that the attack on Orlok was because he was village. This is only really suspicious if we go with my tinfoil that the attack on Orlok was a WGG, which is not certain at all, but definitely a possibility. @BrightnessRadiant: I haven't got too much on her one way or another. Her vote on Lemon was well-argued in my opinion, but that's the only post I've really been able to get much in the way of content out of. Neutral read. So, overall, I don't have many good suspicions yet. I'm going to put my vote on Mestiv for now. Vote tally Manukos(1): asterion Steeldancer(1): Alvron Mestiv(1): Randuir
  4. Just FYI, 'Guardsman' is an ability that Mordor could have as well. If they do, it would allow them to do something called a Wounded Gazelle Gambit, in which they both attack and protect one of their own to make him look good. I'm not saying that is what has happened here, as protecting Orlok seems like a very reasonable thing to do, as is attacking him if he's village, but I don't think we should consider him 100% cleared for now. More thoughts on everyone else coming up in a bit. edit: and is it just me, or does this insanity thing seem to be spreading? Also, there's a politician vote on Orlok, which seems odd. With the way the votes fell, the obvious move for both lemonelon and the elims would be to force a tie and hope Lemonelon survived. The benefits for Lemonelon are obvious, while the elims could focus the discussion around him for another cycle because of his miraculous survival. That is, of course, assuming that Alvron is village. If he isn't then not risking him suddenly makes a lot of sense for the elims...
  5. This is certainly a valid reason to keep your vote on him. I'm just conflicted quite badly about it, so I'm really unsure one way or another. If I'm still alive next cycle I should have time for a thorough read-through and to put out some opinions one everyone, which should hopefully give em something more to go on.
  6. I wish that didn't make as much sense. Something something ignorance is bliss. The one big assumption is that DA posted in the noble doc while he didn't post in the main thread, however. He was active in the past two days though, so it's not impossible that he did, and If his normal posting and gameplay style is any indication, he might not have been particularly incognito. I'm really torn on this issue, but for now Lemonelon.
  7. This is either unfortunate (if you are village), or just as I thought (if you prove to be an elim). There's plenty of votes on Lemon for now, but if someone wants to make another lynch suggestion, I'd be interested in hearing it. Vote tally Lemonelon(4): Orlok, BR, Mestiv, Randuir
  8. Hate to be that guy, but an elim would say the same here. Part of me is inclined to believe you, but I don't really see what the mysteriousness is necessary for at this stage if you are village. As it stands right now, I'll probably place a vote on you before the cycle's end to hamper any elim vote manipulation.
  9. I think Orlok would probably talk a lot if he felt it necessary to keep thing going, and right now it's been mostly me, Orlok and Lemonelon that have been talking, out of a group of 18. Anyway, @Lemonelon, I've got a little theory. Let's say it is as you say, with a rather inexperienced politician putting in one of the two votes. which of the two do you reckon would be done by the village politician?
  10. @Lemonelon, I'm still wondering why your conclusion was 'Rand has scanning abilities', because another possible way for me to know what Ii did if that vote count hadn't been there would have been if I was in on whatever just happened (ie: Rand's an elim or third party). That conclusion wouldn't have required me to have a secret role. You seemed to not even consider that possiblity, which seems odd, unless you know that I'm not an elim. Sorry for the fact that I'm tunneling on you, btw, but unfortunately too many people are just keeping their heads down right now for me to get something on someone else
  11. Right, but what led you to conclude that I both had a scanning ability and that I am good? That seems to require a rather specific set of knowledge.
  12. @Orlok TsubodaiMy reasons for voting on Alvron where two-fold. First, as I said, I wanted him to put in one or two more game-related posts. The other goal was to encourage other people to start voting. I still hope to get the first goal completed as well, but you're right in that it might be a bit early to put up this kind of pressure (especially since it could open him up for a take-down by an elim-aligned politician if the votes remain relatively low and he's village). I might join your vote on lemonelon, but I'd first like to hear his answer to your question (and, if possible, Id'like some other people to start chiming in on the lynch as well).
  13. Okay, Lemonelon does have a point, about there only being two politicians that voted, rather than being two around total. I wasn't as awake as I could be when I made that post, so stuff like that can slip through the cracks. @Doc12, I don't think it's guaranteed that the two politicians can't both be elims. At this early point they could intentionally have split their vote if they didn't particularly care which of the two they killed, as it also reduces the information for us. If they both had voted on the same guy we would have known that they where working together, while with them splitting their vote it seems that they aren't. @Sami, remember that this game has an inactivity filter, so if you don't post this cycle you'll die. Lastly, a vote, as we should really not let the elims have their pick this time around. My two suspicions from last cycle still kinda stand, as Alvron's gibbletish isn't particularly helping his case, and I'm still unsure about lemonelon. I'm going to vote on Alvron for now, in the hope that the threat of an imminent lynch will snap him out of his madness (and whatever he says when he's back to the world of the sane will allow me to re-evaluate him).
  14. Okay, last post before bed-time. First, we've got two politicians, who apoarently suspected DA and BR. If anyone could share why they think they might be suspicious, I'd like to hear it, because I've got nothing. I think at least one if these two votes was cast by an elim, as they definitely would want to capitalize on an apparent no-lynch where a villager might not. Second of all, @King Cole if you could include the meaning of pipe-weed in your message, I'd appreciate it.
  15. It's less than 10 minutes. I'm going to state who I would lynch If I still had a couple of hours, but I don't think we'd learn enough from the actual death as a result of the lynch. Note that all of these are suspicions based on small stuff. this is C1, If I had big reasons for suspicions, I'd have voted hours ago. First of is Alvron. His one comment seems odd, especially since he's been on the site at later points. I also remember him being a bit more active than this. Makes me wonder wether he's got a doc to do more talking in. I'm not sure about Lemonelon. His comment asking if any of the eliminators want to reveal themselves could have just been a joke, or it could have been a distancing technique by an elim. I don't really have anything else on other people right now, and as I said, these are really flimsy suspicions as they are.
  16. Despite its abrupt ending, I did enjoy this game. Trying to come up with new mechanics that are even remotely balanced is far more of a challenge thsn it initially seems. I also think that a similarly styled game could be run in the future, though if I where to gm it I would probably set up more of a framework. For example, I'd set up a faction based game, and then let the players create the rules for roles and factions. Anyway, I thank you for running this game, Sheep, and I do hope to see you back again at some point.
  17. Okay, a quick scan of the player list has shown that about 9 people haven't posted yet. I feel it's a bit early to start weaponizing the notification system (especially since half these people haven't been online since game start), but I'd like to ask everyone to come by and say 'Hello!'. Remember, this game does have an inactivity filter that'll kick in if you don't post for two cycles straight.
  18. Randuir stood on the wall guarding Minas Tirith’s third level, and looked at the rising sun. The dawn shone a golden light over the city as it rose over the eastern mountains. The sun had briefly been coloured red as it appeared from the direction of the wastes, but whatever foul fumes had caused the coloration hadn’t held long. Around him the white city slowly rose from its slumber. Lanterns where doused, merchants opened their shops and the guard shifts where changed. Randuir took in the fresh morning air with a deep breath, then turned to leave. He had a long day in the forge ahead of him, and dawdling now wouldn’t get him out into the fresh air any quicker. As Randuir reached the stair leading down from the wall, a wind blowing from the north-west ruffled through his hair. He paused for a second. A wind from the Misty mountains. Supposedly a sign of a new beginning… He wasn’t sure where that errant thought had come from, and shook it off quickly. There was work to do, and loafing about, wondering about omens wouldn’t do him any good.
  19. I think, if there is a third alignment, that it is telling that only Mordor actually has the means to detect them. This makes me wonder whether it's actually a force of good(maybe a 'Fellowship' of good) with some extra powers, rather than an additional elim faction. It could also be as Orlok has suggested, that there is a second elim faction. If these factiosn are directly opposed though, I think that either any conversions can't be targeted at Mordor (because conversions out of an elim doc is trouble if it isn't incognito), or all elims share one elim doc, encouraging them to not just out eachother, as that's mutually assured destruction. Regarding the steward, I personally don't think any of the revealed roles have additional powers or what-not, but that's more based on gut-feeling and how I would approach a game with hidden information, so I could very well be wrong.
  20. Hey guys! The roles this game are relatively standard, so I've only got one real comment about the roles right now: Scribes, I'd like to refer you to the game creation thread, specifically the part where Elenion posted this game. I figured out some interesting loopholes regarding your role. Secondly, we've got single 24 hour cycles in which everything happens, so we should really try to get a lynch discussion started. However, for us to do that,w e need to people to try and post some more substantial stuff. In a couple of hours I should have enough time to both post some RP and participate in/get started with the lynch discussion.
  21. Okay, so we've got an apocalypse headed for us at turn 7. I'm quickly checking whether it's possible to recall this rule again (though I assume it is). I'm also going to put in a rule that limits the total amount of Brotherhood converts to 3, unless people have some other opinions about the specific numbers? Finally, Kel, I've been boring for quite long enough.
  22. @Lemonelon, the village goal recently changed, and is now more like a regular village, with a win-con incompatible with all other factions.
  23. Okay. What would be a reasonable conversion cap? Given their numbers, I'd say no more than 2-3 conversions? Of course, all the other things they can do with their faction ability remain in play. Edit: I won't propose the cap right away, as I think this is something that needs to be discussed a bit more so that we don't need to adjust the numbers again later.
