  1. I don't disagree with your reasoning (I was building a similar case to be brought early next cycle to get proper voting going). However, why did you pick straw over Xinoehp, Lopen, Burnt Spaghetti, haelbarde or Karnage? Straw only started organizing the spread after that seemed to be the de facto state of the votes, while it was Xinoehp that first encouraged everyone to keep doing so this cycle, while Lopen was fairly encouraging of it with extra votes when it could still have gone either way and providing suggestions to help people keep doing so.
  2. The answer to all these questions is 'yes'. Or 'no' depending on how you're feeling. In general, a good elim team won't go solely after people that are after them, but they will eliminate threats when they think they can get away with it. What this means is that it's generally impossible to tell whether someone got taken out because they where being a direct threat to the elims or not unless it is because of a role they have. However, you should definitely check on what those sent to the crockery by a clear sabotage have had to say. Not because they are confirmed to be right but because they are highly likely to have come from a village mindset. Now, in this game, it's a bit trickier to analyze the content of those sent to the crockery, as it's harder to tell who is good, but its generally a good idea to take a look, and in a more 'standard' game, analyzing the words of the dead is always a good idea. Though always keep in mind that confirmed good is not the same as confirmed right.
  3. Evelyn was fuming. The entire month she’d been kept busy with designing posters, writing pamphlets and checking over and correcting arcane rules documents for people all over the university. And then, when she’d finally found some time to work on her own projects, she’d gotten a letter from the master of Arithmetics, requesting she’d help a noble-born El’the with a project. As if the too-rich-for-his-own-good idiot couldn’t hire a scribe to help him out. Evelyn had seriously considered just ignoring the request, but she really couldn’t afford to annoy one of the masters. So if she went to the horse and four to see what the noble-born brat needed her for. At the upscale inn she was pointed to one of the larger rooms. There she found the man she’d been send to help out, scribbling away on a chalkboard. “What is it you needed me for?” She just about managed to keep her tone civil, but if the noble expected her to bow for him, he had another thing coming. “Ah, y-you must be Evelyn, right?” The noble turned his bespectacled face towards her. “P-please, take a seat. The master said you could help me with my current project, you see…” He launched into a complicated explanation of the scribbles on the board. Evelyn managed to follow along for all of ten seconds before the noble’s explanation lost her, and her patience followed shortly after. “For god’s sake man, I’m not elevated in arithmetics. If you were under the illusion that I could help you prove your theory or whatever, then this has been a monumental waste of our time.” “O-oh, I’m sorry.” The noble stammered. “That isn’t it at all. You see, I’d work out a proof showing that the overall standard of education at the university could be raised if only the more well-to-do students would do more to support those worse off financially, b-but I couldn’t get anyone to give my theory the attention it d-deserves. B-but the master said t-that you…” His voice trailed off. Evelyn blinked twice as she slowly processed hat the noble had just said. “I… right, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have snapped at you.” She responded. “How about you start your explanation again, but go a bit slower this time.” She got paper and ink out of her bag and prepared to take notes. “And I’ll see what I can do about making this theory understandable for everyone.” *** @Elbereth and @little wilson, this talk about the linguistics analysis made me curious about something. Would lies about your character in RP count? For example, in the above RP Evelyn claimed to not be elevated in arithmetics. If I had, in fact, been elevated in that field, would that count as a lie? Regarding the rest of the discussion around the ability, I'm with Elkanah on this one. People should play that ability how they want, but they shouldn't force others to play it their way either, even if it would be the 'optimal' way to play. One funny little thing I picked up from Elkanah's previous post is how different our play-styles tend to be. I try to lie as little as possible, especially when I'm an elim. So if someone does try to use that ability on me, I'd love to hear it if it ended up picking up a lie.
  4. Unsurprisingly enough, nine people got elevated, so there's no field out there that no one is investing in. Sart being sabotaged (I don't think there's any way in which he could have gotten enough insanity points to crack naturally), was probably a low-information play. Sart was reasonably active, gut hadn't shared too many game comments yet. Though it should be noted that Sart's votes where actual stab votes, rather than just tuition driven by the look of things, and the skindancers might have tried to shut that down. Speaking of votes: Zillah @Zillah, you haven't shared many game thoughts yet. Is there anything you'd wish to share with us in regards to that? *** Being elevated had been a mixed blessing for Evelyn. On the one hand, it gave her access to more facilities all around the university. On the other hand, it meant that all kinds of people suddenly had expectations of her. Right now, she was putting up the posters she had made for the master physicker, warning people about the inherent risks of over-exertion and the need for students to rest to avoid cracking. Last week, she’d been tasked by an El’the to help out with making a small pamphlet with arithmetics problems, and he’d told her the master arithemtist herself had recommended her for the job. And just as she’d finished printing the posters, she’d been approached by a high-ranking student in the field of artificery to help with he creation of some promotional material. She wondered if the masters had somehow found out about her pamphletting activities, and this was their way of putting a stop to it. She wouldn’t allow that though. It might take a couple of long nights, but she would get back to fighting against all the injustices inherent to the universities way of doing things. Just as soon as she had some time to spare. And had had a good night’s sleep.
  5. Yeah, please don't take my comment the wrong way. RP is great, especially in this ruleset. But it'd be a bit to easy to just blend in by doing only RP.
  6. Hmmm, that post tally earlier was interesting, but I think it'd also be interesting to see a list of game-related posts, as I know there's been a couple of people that have posted a lot of RP, and little else. That's not to say you shouldn't RP. Quite the opposite in fact, especially in this game. However some game discussion is also necessary, and a skindancer might try to hide behind only RP. For this, I'm counting anything that's more than 1-2 lines of comments as game discussion (but its a lot of counting, so I'll probably be off by 1 with some regularity XD). 1. @Haelbarde(Edema Ruh) 6 2. @Elandera (Noble) 5 3. @Burnt Spaghetti(Commoner) 4 4. @DeTess(Commoner) 8 5. @Elkanah (Edema Ruh) 8 6. @Straw(Commoner) 11 7. @xinoehp512 (Commoner) 11 8. @Lord_Silberfarben(Commoner) 2 9. @Coda (Noble) 1 10. @Karnage (Noble) 2 11. @Hemalurgic Headshot (Noble) - 12. @StrikerEZ (Edema Ruh) 4 13. @Lumgol (Noble) 1 14. @Experience (Commoner) 2 15. @Devotary of Spontaneity (Noble) 7 16. @CadCom (Edema Ruh) 0 17. @Sart (Commoner) 2-ish (game comments encapsulated in RP) 18. @Furamirionind (Edema Ruh) 4 19. @Zillah (Commoner) 1 20. @Araris Valerian (Noble) 1 21. @Rathmaskal(Commoner) 1 22. @STINK (Commoner) 1 23. @Kynedath (Edema Ruh) 0 24. @Walin (Commoner) 1 25. @GreenRover (Noble) 1 26. @Young Bard (Commoner) 1 27. @TheMightyLopen (Noble) 4 Random thought while doing this: Cadcom's short comments look village to me, mostly based on gut. Lord Silberfraben, zillah and Kynedath stand out most to me as having a low game discussion:RP ratio. I can give Lord Silberfarben a pass on this for now, as he's fairly new, but I expect a bit more from @Kynedath and @Zillah. In fact, consider this a pre-poke, I'll seriously consider voting on them next cycle if I don't see a couple of game thoughts from them. In the interest of spreading votes out a bit more, I'll put one on Young bard.
  7. @Elbereth, @little wilson, a quick question about elevations: do they happen every turn, or every term? I don't think there's much to be gained from discussing whether HH was a WGG or not right now, but I don't think it was. In addition to it being a very high-risk trick, it would make more sense to target a non-noble skindancer if that was the case, as any noble skindancers would be better used trying to get bodyguards before the village can. Unless, of course, all skindancers are nobles (makes note for a future pamphlet). I'm actually ever so slightly suspicious of striker for bringing up the WGG theory, as it could be an attempt to side-track the village on something that can't really be figured out right now. I'm not suspicious enough to want to vote on him, especially because it won't actually reveals his alignment, but it is something I'm going to have to keep in mind. Regarding votes, I think I'll put one on Devotary again for now. *** Evelyn once again found herself in the stacks, surrounded by books. This time, most of them where on the medical sciences. She’d long since finished her assignment for the physicking course she was following, and she was now working on a new pamphlet. She had heard a rumor about a student going insane, and that was something she couldn’t just let go. This ‘cracking’ was obviously the result of a poor student being forced to work way too hard to earn enough money to make tuition next term. In all honesty, she was feeling the pressure a bit herself. She had barely enough to pay tuition if the masters where kind, and lodging would be a real issue afterwards. Still, she couldn’t exactly ignore the plight of her fellow students, and if she didn’t write and distribute these pamphlets, who would? “Isn’t it a bit odd though?” Evelyn could hear a pair of students walking through the stacks nearby, talking way too loudly. “I mean, it’s rare for a noble to be pushed that far.” “Eh, it can happen to anyone.” The other student responded. “Blue blood doesn’t make you immune to insanity, you know.” Hearing this shocked Evelyn. “The one that had cracked was a noble?” This invalidated the entire argument she was trying to make in her newest work. Though… the master of Rethorics had said something about the importance of flexibility and adaptability in political discourse, so maybe she could still salvage things? “Yes… this noble must have been the hard-working, impoverished kind. Not so different from us commoners. And if even he was getting into trouble, then the pressures on the rest of us…” Yes, she could definitely work with that.
  8. I'm going to disagree here. Everyone should focus on the fields that interest them, irrespective of social class. If your personal game-plan involves earning a lot of money, go into the fields that support that. If your plan involve finding new ways to break the naming system, go for it. For example, a completely valid plan for an Edema Ruh could be to focus on naming, and after 1 or two elevations, just quit the university and coast on your naming powers while staying somewhere really nice because you can spend all your stipend on lodgings.
  9. @Elbereth, Keep a very close eye on him. He's really, really good at deepwolfing. And tell him I said hi back
  10. I originally cast two, but since I was voting mostly for tuition reduction so far, only one vote was enough (and so there was no reason for me to vote twice). Is there a reason you think it'd be better to vote twice? On other things, yeah, I'd missed that expelling the skindancers was a win-con, as I seemed to remember a fairly dangerous expelled skindancer in a previous game. Either way though, I don't think expelling reveals someone's alignment, so if you're suspicious of someone being a skindancer, it's best to start planning for a way to permanently eliminate them, both to get the alignment flip and to stop them from making use of Imre's facilities, such as the assassins. I don't think there's too much more for me to add at this point. *** Evelyn was sitting in the stacks, surrounded by all manner of books on rhetoric, politics, economics, ethics and similar subjects as she did her research for her next pamphlet. There was just so much knowledge here to work with that she’d barely left the stacks for the last several days. Still, the archives could have been vetted better. There had been more than a few books that disagreed with her views, which meant that these books were not only useless to her, but wrong in general. She’s reported those books to the students keeping the place organized, of course, but they hadn’t appeared particularly thankful. As she went through her study material, she suddenly found herself holding a book on alchemy. She was about to put it back, when she remembered why she’d come to the stacks in the first place. ‘Oh, right… that assignment…’ With a sigh, she put the notes for her pamphlet aside and grabbed some new paper to get to writing. It wouldn’t do to get in trouble with her teachers after all, she could barely make tuition and a place to stay as it was, due to the universities inequitable tuition system… ‘Come on, stay focused.’ She shook her head as she started working on her alchemy paper.
  11. Ah, with that I can't be too helpful. I've read the first book, but stopped halfway through the second as it was just too slow for my tastes. However, in general the world is a fairly typical high fantasy not-england (minus the various fantasy-races, as its generally just humans), with as main points of interest the magic-as-science approach and the old-school fey (IE: not the sparkly happy ones, but the ones that'll, at best, kill you if you accidentally stray into their domain and break one of their rules). The university itself is neutral ground, dedicated fully to developing the sciences. I mean, its a lot more complicated than that, obviously, and I'm sure someone else can give a far more involved explanation, but this should cover the basics.
  12. I mean, if you can't afford tuition anyway, why not allow yourself to get expelled C1. That way, you won't have to worry about tuition at all If you're looking for RP, thinking about why your character would currently be attending the university would always be a good start. Especially given that attending the university is rather tricky for Edema Ruh with their low income.
  13. Ah, okay, thanks. In that case...*tosses a coin*... elandera IIRC I've been an Edema Ruh in one of the previous runs, and you can make it work with a lot of activity, and getting some talent pipes generally doesn't hurt much either. But yeah, if there's one ruleset where focusing on RP reasons and just generally doing what looks fun is a good idea, it's this one. Just don't forget that there are some elims that need hunting down, but since the vote doesn't kill them, that is also going to come down to advancing in the various fields and getting the tools necessary to find and kill them.
  14. Are you certain about only one vote counting for reduction? @Elbereth, @little wilson? If so, I completely agree with you where votes that are mostly based on tuition reduction are concerned.
  15. So, I'm not going to do a full breakdown of the rules or anything. The rules for this game are more like that of a fairly crunchy TTRPG, and I'm afraid everyone will have to figure out its optimization techniques for themselves. There is one thing I would like to discuss though, and that's the vote. Unlike normal games, the vote in this game does not kill directly, and is instead somewhere between an inconvenience or, in the early game, a kind of semi-permanent role-block. Getting voted on increases your tuition, and getting voted on a lot can get you expelled, which means you cannot gain more university based skills. However, there's still quite a bit to do in Imre, and some of the more dangerous abilities (such as a kill) can be bough there. There's one other factor to the lynch though, and that is the tuition reduction. The Nobles don't really need it as much, but I expect all commoners and Edema Ruh will be using both their complaints every cycle. So, what I'm trying to say here is this: the vote doesn't kill, but can inconvenience someone a lot. If you are very suspicious of someone, by all means get them expelled, but remember that you're going to have to follow up with something else to finish the job. If you want to vote but are not suspicious of someone, I'd suggest spreading your votes around, and avoiding voting on Edema Ruh, as they're hit the hardest by the increase in tuition from getting complaints leveled against them. So yeah, sorry for that rambling set of thoughts. Also Elandera, Devotary I'm jealous that you get so much more money than I do, so have some baseless complaints leveled against you. *** Evelyn returned to her room, shivering from the cold. Still, just because it was cold outside didn’t mean she could stop fighting against inequality. The pamphlets she had made needed to be distributed after all, and there was no way a mere blizzard would stop her. Her pamphlet, titled ‘By their means and skill’ proposed a radical change to the universities tuition scheme, placing a greater burden on those with the means to carry it, while lessening the burden on the poor. Of course, it would also be balanced based on an individual’s academic skills. The rare nobles that came here to actually learn something, rather than to party their family’s money away, didn’t need to be tithed as harshly, she supposed. She held her hands in front of the fire as feeling slowly crept back into her fingers. She had been at this for nearly a full term now but she’d yet to see the changes she was campaigning for. Still, once enough people learned of her ideas, change was inevitable. It was the only sensible course of action after all. And, she mused, it’d be nice if her ideas got enough traction that she could actually start putting her name under these pamphlets, rather than having to keep them anonymous.
  16. I won't really have the time to play, though I am of course thankful for the nomination!
  17. I'd like to nominate @StrikerEZ. He's really impressed me in a couple of the games we recently played together (the AG in particularly) and I think they could do well at the championships as well if they have the time.
  18. Thanks, though there was quite a bit of luck involved in that. I had some minor suspicions of them, but it was only when they made that claim to me that I became really suspicious, and then only because I knew I was already a priest. Speaking of luck, I had the most dreadful luck in my scans. First I scanned Devotary, who got promptly killed, and then Sart, who also got killed the cycle after, stopping me from establishing any form of trust network. @Kynedath, you did a pretty good job of remaining below suspicion for me, btw. I don't think you ever really stood out to me in a bad way while I was still alive. Also, @EXPERIENCE, it was pretty nice playing with you. You pretty active and not really afraid to get stuck in, which is allways a good trait to have in this game.
  19. And I think you'll fully understand if I won't specify more unless I absolutely have to. You've already taken one shot at taking out the priest, and I'd much prefer it if you were to take the next shot at me to be certain to hit a confirmed good, rather than continuing walking your fire to get the priest.
  20. It's partly that, but also the fact that you lost quite a bit over this cycle, @The_God_King. I told you that Sart was the other person to be scanned by the seer, and they where killed last cycle. Your claim that you had also scanned Sart this last cycle also doesn't really work out if you were village, but makes perfect sense if you were an elim knowing that trouble was brewing and unwilling to give anything away.
  21. Anyway, I went over about half the players last cycle, so lets do the other half this cycle. Experience I'm leaning village on, but that's mostly just a gut-read based on our PM (if that was staged, btw, well done!). In thread there isn't really much of a way to tell their alignment, but they're involved and rather talkative too, so they aren't really a priority to lynch as far as I'm concerned. Straw has been really light on info so far This was the reason for my vote on Straw D2, the fact that he gas been posting, but most posts have been completely NAI with little real content. I wouldn't mind lynching them properly over this, btw. Elandera has been more involved, and though we haven't exactly agreed on a lot of stuff, she has been putting reads out there, which should mean her alignment will resolve itself once we start finding some elims. The_god_king is an elim and should be lynched this cycle. ... ... ... Oh, that last statement actually needs some explanation, does it? I was approached in a PM by The_god_king last cycle, with him claiming to be a priest and having scanned me. So far so good. Unfortunately, he was the second person in as many cycles to make that claim to me, so it made me rather suspicious. I asked the other person who had claimed priest to scan The_god_king, and that person has just PM'd me to tell me that the_god_king flipped evil. I'm inclined to trust this person over TGK because I don't think this cycle is LYLO yet, so falsely clamming an elim scan result seems unwise. Even so, I will make sure to pass the identity of the priest on to someone I trust in case I am getting played and they're planning on killing me this cycle. But yeah, tl;dr, TGK has been scanned as an elim and needs to be lynched. It should also be noted that TGK claimed that Elandera was the other person they had scanned before me.
  22. @Zillah, if you had to pick between Elandera and the_god_king right now, which would you pick? Just out of curiosity? I've got a bigger post coming up in a bit, btw.
  23. Ugh, I dislike playing PM games, as I'm way too easily swayed, but I'm now leaning a lot more village on Experience based on our PM conversation. TGK has also slightly alleviated my suspicions based on the shift in their play-style in a PM, so I don't quite want to lynch them this cycle yet. I'm also leaning a bit village on Sart right now, mostly because they seem to be talking sense, rather than going for low-hanging fruit. Zillah, I'm leaning pretty elimy on right now. It might be a bit arrogant on my part, but in a game as quiet as this, voting to lynch one of the few vocal players based on an unexplained gut-feeling feels pretty wrong (especially because Zillah has yet to play against me while I was an elim if I'm not mistaken). The likely outcome of that is an even quieter thread, which can only aid the elims. If the Elims do know who they all are, I think the low voter turn-out suggests no elims have been threatened yet, but unfortunately that's speculation and nothing more at this point. Ugh, you know what, for my own peace of mind I'll just make the assumption they do know right now, just to make the pool of possible lynch candidates more manageable. That means dropping Elandera and Straw from the list of suspects right now. If I also drop TGK, Experience and sart that leaves me with Ironfire, Zillah, Kynedath, Shanerockes, Rathmaskal and STINK. Ironfire seems like a pretty new player. Normally that would make me lean more village on them, as an elim would have the backing of a doc to take the edge of their new-player questions, but as communication between elims isn'ta given this game, this doesn't really do anything to sway my opinion on them one way or another. Zillah's posts where fairly NAI untill (potentially) their post with their vote on me this cycle. This isn't doing anything to sway my suspicion, as I'd have expected to see a bit more in the way of content form the by now. Kynedath I'm also unsure on. They've been a bit more active, but I think elim!kynedath would have gotten a bit more backing for his vote on me if he could communicate with his team-mates. If he couldn't, then that was NAI. Otherwise there's some activity and participation in voting there there, which means that I don't really want to lynch them without a better argument. Shanerockes has one post to apologize for not posting more, and that's it. @shanerockes, where's that fire and enthusiasm from LG63? Rathmaskal is similar to shanerockes in that they've only posted once, but at least there where a couple of minor reads there, which is a good start. That doesn't clear them, and I hope to see more later. Stink is also talking a lot of sense. They're also a bit of a veteran at this game, but I don't dislike what I'm seeing right now. The only point that stood out in a negative light was them dismissing the possibility of learnign stuff from the Xino attack, but they later followed up on that as well as the DoS attack, so that's all good. Sof, out of these, I'd vote on Shanerockes ebcause of activity, or on Zillah because of suspicion. I'm not 100% on how rational my vote on Zillah is versus me just feeling a bit cranky over getting voted on without a solid reason given, so... Actually, I will state I'm voting on one of Shanerockes or Zillah, but I won't reveal which. That way, it functions as a poke for Shanerockes irrespective of if my vote is for him or not, and if either is an elim and the elims do know each other, the uncertainty should force them to speak up more.
