  1. I just realized that despite the verbosity of my rules, I forgot something important. Vote in red. Retract a vote in green. Please do not edit old posts to retract (unless it was like, the very last post made, of course) - put it in a current/new post. That makes it much easier to track for both players and GMs.
  2. ... and I now have 32 roles done, just in case someone decides to try and surprise me <.<
  3. Thank you for joining, everyone! It looks like we may surpass my expected upper bound of 31 players. If we do, well, I guess I'll have to write some more roles really, really quickly! So, at this point, if you are thinking of joining, please join sooner rather than later so I know if I need to write more roles as soon as possible. ... the first nighttime rollover will be complicated xD
  4. Well, I tried using the reviver on El. I guess it didn't work because the game ended?
  5. ... are they really that bad? I promise I'll streamline them next time, when I run my Rosharan LG that's in this format D:
  6. Only if you want it to I doubt we'll get many people who have actually never read a Sanderson novel, uses this forum, and yet cares about spoilers.
  7. A quick reminder - anyone who has not read one of the Cosmere books (including the White Sand graphic novel (Vol 1)) should please let me know via PM so we can avoid giving you a role from one of the books you have not yet read. I'd hate to spoil people if I can help it. Edit: Minor rule change - Collect Research Materials now gives {3} if you have Mastery instead of {2}.
  8. Great questions Keep them coming! 1) That's there for redirects. Those abilities can hit you if someone redirects your action to you. Remember that if you try to redirect an ability to an invalid target, it doesn't redirect at all, so it's risky for someone to try redirecting an action to the user of said action. But, it can succeed, sometimes. Some redirects, however, are random and choose from available legal targets. These would be able to randomly cause someone to hit themself with abilities that allow for hitting Self as a target. 2) That's a wording error. By "Target" I meant "Person who triggers it." It's "Self" targeting because you add the passive text to an item you are holding. 3) You do not know how *Nightblood works unless you have *Nightblood. The item explains how to use it and answers your question. 4) You can only store by not getting Informed of something. If you wouldn't be Informed of anything, you don't store anything. You decide ahead of time how much you are storing and if you want it to be random or not, but if you wouldn't get told anything at all, you store nothing. 5) Yes, you do gain charge. (This is different because Copperminds have to store in order for their tap to mean anything.) 6) No, you cannot plan to use an item you don't have. Similarly, you can't plan to use an [attack] item you are expecting to pick up, take, or be given that turn. That was a good question - I don't think that's in the rules anywhere and it should be. 7) This isn't following canon - I was running out of ideas for Fabrials, but wanted one more. 8-9) Individual characters should have ways to gain Investiture that may not be apparent from the general rules. Unless I'm mistaken or made a mistake, every character that can use Investiture (not all can) have a way to gain Investiture. If not, there's always trading with someone who has Spheres, which recharge themselves every two turns if you're on Roshar (see the common item from Roshar for an example).
  9. 1) Exactly, but it's slightly more than that. You only need to Take once to get all Offered items. So, if you are doing a lot of item transfers, Offer/Take is much more efficient, but it requires more coordination than having someone just Give items. In general, coordination is rewarded. Basically, it might not be worth it to you to spend an action to give up an item you don't care about or can't use, but it might be worth it to someone else to spend an action to take that item from you if you're willing to part with it. 2) When you send in your actions, the order you give for them is irrelevant. Instead, the Order of Action is followed. So, yes, your [assist] actions would be simultaneous in your example (along with everyone else's), and then your [attack] would happen (along with everyone else's), and that would be true regardless of the order you put them in. As I said in the rules, there are very, very few White Sand spoilers. There's a chance the only character(s) with any won't even make it into the game depending on how many players we wind up with. There are a few content spoilers (like, a content spoiler for Mistborn Era 1 would be the existence of Duralumin or Bendalloy), but so far no one has said they'd have a problem with that sort of thing. So, don't worry about White Sand, and I'll add you to the growing list of people who don't want one of the Taldain characters xD
  10. Really, I'd recommend not worrying about it. Unless you really want to. It's very weird for me of all people to say this, but gender isn't terribly important. Ultimately, this is an Elimination game and I don't want people using the gender of characters mentioned in writeups to determine who did or didn't do something, as you pointed out. Normally, I'd just use gender-neutral terms, but in this game, I can use gendered terms to refer to a character, and it doesn't tell anyone which player it could be (even if people claim, they could be lying). I think most people are just not caring if it matches the gender or not. But, there are several options if you do care. You can say your character was always female and only pretended to be male before. Dalinar as secretly always a woman (with shshshshsh being actually male, it's not like he'd remember anyway) would be pretty awesome, if you ask me. This game isn't canon, it just follows canon to an extent. You could also do what you suggested, which is the opposite - have your character disguised as a woman if your role turns out to be male. If you do this (or the opposite), please don't make it into a joke. Or, if it really matters to you, you can send me a PM requesting only roles of a specific gender. As long as no one knows you've done that, it does not reveal information.
  11. I... don't know how I feel about that character (disguise) choice. xD Generally speaking, LG cycles last 72-96 hours, they have more complicated rules, and they are designed around having more players. The longer cycles are what really define it - they are what cause LGs to generally last longer than MRs/QFs. QFs have 24 hour cycles, and MRs generally have 48 -72 hour cycles (I think?). Also, QFs usually have day and night combined into one, whereas LGs usually have day and night separated out. MRs from what I've seen sometimes have them combined, sometimes don't. So, in other words, no, there are no special rules that differentiate QFs/MRs/LGs that aren't in that game's rules.
  12. I slightly failed at time. The game should be starting when rollover would END, not begin. Signups are still ending at 10pm on Tuesday, but the game will not be starting until 26 hours later, at midnight on Thursday. The OP has been adjusted accordingly. I will also add a "game start" timer to the second post, just to be clear.
  13. Oh, hey, votes for someone who isn't me. I can be down with that. [ Ecthelion ]
  14. Uh, 79? More like 200. These are just the common abilities - everyone has their own unique Specials. That's the crazy part. Oh, and then there's the items. There are 55 common items, 11 per world, and many players have their own unique items. So yeah, it'll be crazy xD The next time I run something like this, it'll be vastly simplified. It's too late to simplify this one, but next time (for the Rosharan Secret Society game), everyone will have ONE passive and ONE active unique special, not ~2-5 of each. I'm really curious to see how well this works though!
  15. It took me a while. I'd have to look up when I asked to be added to the LG list - that's when I started writing it.
  16. Oh, and I forgot to mention - Elbereth is my Co-GM for this game. Thanks, El!
  17. Welcome, Iohn! Newcomers are definitely welcome
  18. Magestar is your actual character's "disguise." Everyone's in disguise, to explain why no one recognizes each other (except for those who do, of course).
  19. I'm trying to put Spoiler tags back in to mitigate that, but it's being difficult. Very difficult.
  20. Signups will be open until: Time until game start: Player List Magestar (Magestar) The Healer (Doctor12) Iohn (Iohn) Lorien the Rithmatist (Conquestor) Stick (I_am_a_Stick) Jonly the Terrisman (The Only Joe) NeLaar (Arraenae) Spike (Paranoid King) Ryth (Silverblade5) Riza (Frozen Mint) Ecthelion (Ecthelion III) Kyla (Little Wilson) The Young Bard (The Young Bard) Grond (Elenion) Brandon Sanderson (Darkness Ascendant) Aralis (Araris Valerian) Dr. Idem Occulta (Wonko the Sane) Kelen Taldar (AliasSheep) Gladium Paleas (Straw) Victor (Amanuensis) Bugsy (Bugsy6912) Locke (OrlokTsubodai) Dowanx (Dowanx) Tom (Sart) Kaloo (TheMightyLopen) Unknown (Mark IV) mmhmmnmhmm (LivingLegend) Cy Lon (Clanky) Emrys Morge (Bridge Boy) Reginald Canuck (Dalinar Kholin) Orik Ironfist (Haelbarde) Lily (Luckat) Odin (Stink)
  21. Cognitive Dissonance GMs: Nyali and Elbereth Timing (Signups & Rollover) Signups will be open for a week, from now until Tuesday, September 13th, at 10pmEST. The game will start 26 hours after signups close (on Thursday, September 15th, at midnightEST) to give me time to adjust the game to the number of players (the game is designed for 25-31, but I can handle any number). At some point during those 24 hours, you will receive your Role PM, but PMs and Docs will not be created until the game begins. Since this game is very complex and it's the first game I'm running here, days and nights will both be 46 hours long with a 2 hour rollover. Rollover will be from 10pmEST to midnightEST (that's 7pmPST to 9pmPST and 2amGMT to 4amGMT). Overview (the game in summary) Every player has a character with their own goals. Some are Independent and have only their own goals, and some are in factions and have a common faction goal as well. Every player has their own unique powers, only some of which are "common" and listed here. Some powers are passive and some take actions. During the day, you vote to lynch. During the night, you get three actions. There are five worlds and you can only use most actions on people who are on the same world as you. The game ends when a faction goal is achieved, even if no one in that faction has all of their personal goals achieved. Rules Common Powers Sample Characters (these roles are either not in the actual game or have completely different character sheets) Write ups:
