  1. Welcome. My favourite is probably Roshar, with Sel and Scandrial competing for second. Also, have a cookie.
  2. Something more dystopian than TFE? I'm getting the feeling that it would be hard to create something worse than TFE, although you can perhaps create something on the same level, but from a different direction. Also, for some reason I now want to see a story focused on advanced Hemalurgy, as I have the feeling that most of the things we've seen so far are fairly primitive. The most advanced constructs we've seen are the Kandra, and even in their case the Hemalurgy is only part of whats happening. You could do some really interesting things. Right now the most limiting factor is that if you go deeper in your research you will probably bring down Harmony's wrath.
  3. Atium spikes perhaps? I also think that if you want to give something a personality through Hemalurgy Identity would be a good one to use. Otherwise, you could perhaps use the technique used by a certain person to attach his cognitive shadow to a living human. You could probably use some advanced computer AI programming to give it a complicated enough cognitive and spiritual part, which you then modify through magic till it starts to resemble the cognitive aspect and spirit web of a human or other sentient creature. I'm guessing that the best thing for this would be an electronic brain using artificial neural networking, as it bears the closest resemblance to an actual human brain, making the switch more natural. /WildSpeculation
  4. I put this in spoilers, as it reveals a bit too much about the plot, especially the third book. P.S. It would be best if you hid the the following part: as a spoiler for HoA, because it is fairly big thing.
  5. This could do some interesting stuff, if the base spirit is that of the donor. I get the image of people who are physically impaired or are dying having themselves spiked and then implanted in a ship, a bit like the brain ships in anne mccaffrey's The Ship Who series. On the other hand, if the soul/mind itself doesn't get transferred, but perhaps just the personality or even sentience, you could get things like the Minds in the Culture books. Both could create some really interesting social dilemmas, like human rights, or even the spiking of people to transfer the spirit itself, a bit like the discussion on spiking dying metal born.
  6. Heal Emperor's Soul, hurt SSFH. 3. Emperor's Soul--5 4. The Final Empire--8 6. The Hero of Ages--9 8. Shadows of Self--13 9. The Bands of Mourning--5 13. The Way of Kings--11 14. Words of Radiance--12 15. Edgedancer--14 16. Warbreaker--10 17. Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell--8
  7. Maybe Mistborn, and an analysis of the results of class oppression, or The Well of Ascension and the results of revolutions.
  8. RWBY Chibi?
  9. My guess is that they should be able to consciously heal, but that it takes a lot of energy. I think that it would work in the same way as how Siri regrows her hair, and seeing how much energy that takes I guess that active healing would not only take some intense focus, like the hair thing, but also a lot of energy, and would give the same healing level as active investure healing, like Stormlight. Instead, they could probably speed up their healing to a much higher level than that of baseline humans, but on the level that it would still take days to heal from big wounds, and would be extremely exhausting, and would probably also require some form of trance to keep the healing going. This would explain why Vasher and Denth weren't shown healing, as it would still take way too long before you had results and it would also leave them in no fighting shape. As it requires active focus, training and knowledge it explains why other Returned didn't do it. As a natural extension of this I would also propose that people with the Royal Locks would be able to do this.
  10. It wasn't actually that hard. The mass calculation was fairly easy, when I found the data in AU. The star calculations were harder, but when I found the right calculations online writing the tool was easy.
  11. I hope so, I think that my mass calculations should be right, but I'm getting the impression that something weird is going on with the solar calculations. I have considered that Roshar doesn't use the rotation around the sun as indicator for years, as they have the weeping.
  12. Here are a couple of calculations I did about Roshar. The necessary variables (gravitational constant, radius) are from the AU essay. DISCLAIMER: I have little experience with astronomy, and these calculations may be wrong. Please submit any corrections, to improve the data. Roshar's mass: Gravitational constant = 70% of earth Radius = 90% of earth Mr = mass Roshar m*g=(G*Mr*m)/r^2 m*g*r^2=G*Mr*m g*r^2=G*Mr Mr=(g*r^2)/G Mr=((9.81*0.7)*(6.371*10^6*0.9)^2)/(6.673*10^-11) Mr=(6.867*3.288*10^13)/(6.673*10^-11) Mr=(2.258*10^14)/(6.673*10^-11) Mr=3.383*10^24 kg To calculate Roshar's orbit, and the mass of the sun I had to do something different. As I couldn't find any data on it on the internet I used the AU starmap. Here, the color of the sun is lighter than that of our sun, making it seem that it is of a higher spectral class (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stellar_classification#Harvard_spectral_classification). I then took the spectral classes above that of the sun (F till O) and created a tool that takes the highest and lowest luminosity, and then uses that to calculate the habitable zones. I then calculate what the mass of the star need to be to make Roshar have its period of 1.1 years and still fall in the habitable zone. the program repeats this till the mass of the star is also within the right class. The results are as followed: If you want to use the tool yourself, I attached the python file here: stellar_mass.py. This shows that Roshar's sun would probably have a mass of around 1.4 solar masses. this would mean that the semi-major axis of Roshar is: r=((G*M*T^2)/(4*pi^2))^(1/3) r=(((6.673*10^-11)*(2.8*10^30)*(3.15*10^7)^2)/(4*pi^2))^(1/3) r=((1.85*10^35)/(4*pi^2))^(1/3) r=(4.69*10^33)^(1/3) r=1.67*10^11 meter r=1.12 au (astronomical unit, earth's distance from the sun) I would also appreciate it if someone with more knowledge of astronomy looked over my calculations and my code, as I don't have much knowledge on the subject, and it is fairly possible I have made some mistakes.
  13. I would say that it is probably definitely mutual P.S. Thanks @Shqueeves.
  14. Atium wouldn't even be necessary. They way I read it the atium is only used to cancel theirs, so electrum would work just fine, and is a valid twinborn combination.
  15. Here's a good playlist on the subject of general relativity and curved space-time: The channel also has a lot of other videos on the subject of science, like quantum mechanics.
  16. I think that this is some kind of foreshadowing, but it could just be that this was missed during the revisions. I hope that it is foreshadowing however. Anyway, great find.
  17. @Gizmosowner You can click edit to add new things to your old posts, double posting isn't really liked on this forum as it makes everything unorganized and hard to read.
  18. By Devotion and Dominion, Preservation, Ruin and Harmony, Devotion, Honor and Cultivation, I summon thou to us... @Rubix
  19. I like OpenSuse with KDE myself, but I'll also admit that it has it's problems, like the fact that it's software install program (zypper, kind of like apt-get) and the repositories it connects to have a tendency to miss certain packages, requiring me to either manually install them or use an experimental build from the website that the program normally don't access. This is probably because I use Linux for obscure programming stuff that Windows doesn't offer a lot of support for however, and for normal usage it is quite nice. P.S. It probably also doesn't help that I'm running it through Virtual Box, because trying to get past the weird install stuff with my PC's UEFI is storming annoying, to the point that it always hangs before even loading the setup. I will stop here, before I go on an UEFI and Secure Boot rant.
  20. I don't really think he possessed Spook. The Sovereign arrived about twelve years after the Catacendre, and Spook supposedly ruled for a hundred years. This would mean that Spook would have been possessed by Kelsier most of that time, and also should have a spike through his eye. I think something like that would probably be noticed by the people in elendal. Also, it would mean that both the Sovereign and Spook wouldn't be seen for long periods of time, as they were at the other continent. I do however think that possession could be a possibility, just not that Kelsier possessed Spook.
  21. Breda, Netherlands. Seems I'm the only one there. It also seems we don't get any signings .
  22. Welcome, don't worry about saying the wrong stuff in posts, everybody does that. Also, have a cookie.
