  1. Jasnah will meet Cultivation and this will only make her more of a confirmed Atheist.
  2. Also confirmation that Khriss has been to Yolen. That surprised me.
  3. Since Brandon is Mormon, it only seems appropriate to write it in the style of the Book of Mormon. Chapter 1 1. It came to pass in the 5th year of the reign of Elhokar, King of Alethkar, that the Stormfather spake unto Dalinar saying, They must unite, or this people will be utterly destroyed. 2. And Dalinar raised up his voice unto the people of Alethkar, saying unto them that they must unite, and live by the Codes that their fathers has delivered to them. 3. And there rose up one Brightlord Sadeas, who said, What is this that thou sayest? Should we believe one man, though he should preach that the world should be destroyed? Behold, I say it is the effect of a frenzied mind. And that which ye say are ancient prophecies, are the foolish traditions of your fathers. For no man knoweth of things to come, but every man prospers according to his genius and conquers according to his strength. 4. And the people hearkened not unto Dalinar. Chapter 54 1 And the servant of Sadeas rose up and swore in his wrath that the army of Dalinar should not perish from Roshar. And his name was Kaladin. And the spirit of Honor was upon him, and her name was Sylphrenia, which being interpreted means the joyful wind. 2 He was a large and a mighty man and he sought for the covenants of his fathers, that he might receive the blessings of the Knight Radiant. 3 And He smote upon the army of the Parshendi insomuch that they did flee before him.
  4. I have speculated that Hoid will fail, but that we might get some kind of Tolkien-esque eucatastrophe. This entire shattering might have been Adolosium's plan all along. We know Adolosium is dead, but how gone is he? Could he come back at some crucial moment? We certainly don't have any foreshadowing for that, but we know next to nothing of the spiritual realm. What makes me wonder this, partly, is understanding the Mormon conception of God's plan for us all. It involved a fortunate and beneficial Fall, which like the Shattering, has benefits, but also a lot of struggle. If we do follow this pattern, then we would have something divine (more than just the shards) would have to step in and help us along. Even if Hoid does ultimately fail, I still expect his efforts to be highly important.
  5. Adolin will be exiled, and forced to live as a farm laborer, or transient worker. Some wealthy landowner who has been taking advantage of his poor workers, will also try to take advantage of Adolin. Adolin will be severely outnumbered, beat them handily, and become a Robin Hood type character. He may also meet Lift in his adventures or the untainted remnants of the Parshendi. He will not become a Dustbringer until either book 5 or later in book 9 or 10. He is really going to have to work for it.
  6. Fair enough. I still have my childhood rock collection, but I don't have most of it displayed either. And I really don't think we are seeing Mraize's casual pasttime, like stamp-collecting, or bird-watching. We are seeing something significant. At least, they are world-hoppers with trophies. But at most... they are doing something very different. What I gathered from the non-canon Liar of Partinel, was that the gem/aether thing was not particularly easy to get ahold of. They seemed quite rare. So this is not just a casual trophy. This is something collected intentionally, and with great effort. But why?
  7. I was under the impression that the book covers were written by Khriss or Nazh. If so, they are almost certainly not Terris.
  8. We have a general idea (or think we do) why Hoid is collecting different kinds of Investiture, but why his Mraize? The more I think about that, the more it weirds me out. I assumed at first it was just trophies, but I don't think so.
  9. That would mean, Feruchemy is not truly end-neutral. There is a recent WOB at the JordanCon RAFOlympics about things people on Scadrial call end-neutral, really aren't.
  10. We know that some people left Southern Scadrial and settled in the Cognitive Realm. We also know the IRE was there. Hoid referred to an economy, and that implies industry. The Cognitive Realm was certainly lush enough for people to settle. And if there is room, people are good at settling in places, particularly if where they are fleeing from is not very hospitable, or if they can make a better living there. Once you put it that way, it is rather inevitable that people will settle it, if it wasn't already settled. That said, I would love to see a shard on a rouge planet, not attached to any star.
  11. I wonder if things will change (ie. his ability to hurt others), if Hoid gets some of Odium's investiture. He certainly didn't hold back on Kelsier in M:SH.
  12. Just a comment on the name, ettmetal. When Mendeleev was first constructing his periodic table, and he knew he had spots for unknown elements, he called them ekasilicon, ekaaluminium and ekaboron. Eka and et just seemed very similar, and are both prefixes for unknown materials. Also, eka is 1 in sanskrit, which is why Mendeleev used it.
  13. If any one is interested, you can use the option in Amazon to read just a portion of White Sand, just a few pages here and there, really. But it is enough, for us to see what character was gender swapped. Sometimes those kind of swaps are rough on the actual characterization. But in this case, I am intrigued.
  14. It is a real shame we can't get a Liar of Partinel forum, in the Unpublished works forum. That is one I really want to discuss.
  15. I suspect that is overthinking it about the Dynastic border, especially as it seems a lot of people actually get through. Apparently a lot fewer make their way back. But why would we say that there is less investiture on the Darkside? It just seems that they have a different kind of magic. Apparently no know knows about SkyColors on the Bright side.
  16. The only thing that annoyed me about Dune, was that there was nothing for the Sand Worms to feed on. At least on this world, there is some kind of biological cycle, some kind of photosynthesis in the sand grains. In his visit to the Deep Sand, what he sees is a flourishing ecosystem of sandlings, presumably all living off the sand.
  17. Keep in mind, that all life on our planet (Earth) needs water. But there are plenty of other solvents out there. Other alien kinds of life may not need or want, water. For the early part of Earth's history, oxygen was toxic. It was only when some algae began to produce it, and killed off the anaerobic bacteria, that we started getting oxygen breathing. Water is useful for humans, but if that creatures we see are any clue, humans are as out of place here as humans on Roshar.
  18. It seems to me, that every shard has an aspect of the world that is fixates on. For this planet, that seems to be light. So the cognitive realm may simply be very bright.
  19. While White Sand was meant to be a trilogy, the current trilogy of graphic novels will only cover the prose version of White Sand. And they are going to come out at a pace of once a year.
  20. There has been some speculation that Bavadin resides in their sun. Both sunlight and aurora both come from the sun, so that gives a consistent source - investiture by sunlight/solar wind. Energy-wise, violet is higher energy than red. So the villain mentioned would have a more potent magic. But interestingly, Sazed (and Wax) saw that their planet was surrounded by a red haze, perhaps weakened by distance? The key advantage of a shard being in a star, is that he has some really long-distance reach for his magic. And he is really viewable (as a star) on just about any planet in the Cosmere. Just some suggestions.
  21. Isn't there a WoB that technically, all the shards have been on Roshar?
  22. Lift? that is fantastic. But where did you hear it would be Lift?
  23. I have really been wondering if the God Beyond, is just Adonalsium up in the Spiritual Realm. We know he is dead, but then, so is Kelsier.
  24. My thought, was that one is places where people are and things are happening, and the other is not. So, if I am right, then if people spent as much time on the ocean, then it would appear as water as well, in the Cognitive Realm. That said, I am going to have to look closer at how the ship appeared to Jasnah when she Elsecalled. An argument against that, though, is the map of Shadesmar that we have in The Way of Kings. The Purelake appears as mountains.
  25. Fantastic. Let's see if Butcher returns the favor in Peace Talks.
