Book 5 will end with Odium being splintered... And madder than ever before. And if he is going to die, he is certainly planning on taking Roshar with him. And/or Book 10 will end with the man called Taln taking the shards of Honor & Odium and making a new composite shard. He may help out Harmony.

Oversleep - that tells us nothing. We know that Parshendi were not Radiants in the past, but we know they have a lot to do with spren. But we don't know anything about the Aimians one way or the other yet.

But where do the Aimians fit into all of this, and how do they, (besides just Axies the Collector) interact with or care about spren? What can they offer spren?

I was really hoping that shard would be Self-preservation. But just because if has a shardpool on the planet doesn't mean that it lives there, just that it visited here. It might be partly to keep people off its tail.

Perhaps it is a result of the investiture that he holds from the Shards he has collected. But if he has some Ruin or some Odium, then he could, because those things are consistent with that particular investiture.

Yata, that is a good question. I remember seeing it, but now that I try to put my finger on it, I don't remember exactly where. I am 99% certain it was the AU. And as for the light, investiture in Taldain is possible (you are correct), but it works much more naturally and elegantly if it is the sun.

I have wondered if Cultivation could help Nightblood either grow, or mature or be a little less dangerous. I would be interesting to have some character growth for the sword.

Considering clues from Arcanium this makes a lot of sense for the shard to be in the sun. That is really a brilliant place, if you are immortal and have more power than you know what to do with. It gives you maximum reach to other worlds as well, because you are a freaking star, as well as the ability to influence life on your world. It is where I would have picked. The magic seems tied to either sunlight or aurora, both would be solar in origin. It also explains why the sun hasn't killed them yet. A gravitationally locked planet is very hard to sustain life on, on the sunward side. The problem Harmony is having could also be an extended solar wind, provided the stars are probably less than a few hundred light years apart. It just takes the solar wind a while to get there. Or perhaps it is all the sunlight. Either way, entirely solar.

I have speculated that Hoid will fail, but that we might get some kind of Tolkien-esque eucatastrophe. This entire shattering might have been Adolosium's plan all along. We know Adolosium is dead, but how gone is he? Could he come back at some crucial moment? We certainly don't have any foreshadowing for that, but we know next to nothing of the spiritual realm. What makes me wonder this, partly, is understanding the Mormon conception of God's plan for us all. It involved a fortunate and beneficial Fall, which like the Shattering, has benefits, but also a lot of struggle. If we do follow this pattern, then we would have something divine (more than just the shards) would have to step in and help us along. Even if Hoid does ultimately fail, I still expect his efforts to be highly important.

Adolin will be exiled, and forced to live as a farm laborer, or transient worker. Some wealthy landowner who has been taking advantage of his poor workers, will also try to take advantage of Adolin. Adolin will be severely outnumbered, beat them handily, and become a Robin Hood type character. He may also meet Lift in his adventures or the untainted remnants of the Parshendi. He will not become a Dustbringer until either book 5 or later in book 9 or 10. He is really going to have to work for it.

Fair enough. I still have my childhood rock collection, but I don't have most of it displayed either. And I really don't think we are seeing Mraize's casual pasttime, like stamp-collecting, or bird-watching. We are seeing something significant. At least, they are world-hoppers with trophies. But at most... they are doing something very different. What I gathered from the non-canon Liar of Partinel, was that the gem/aether thing was not particularly easy to get ahold of. They seemed quite rare. So this is not just a casual trophy. This is something collected intentionally, and with great effort. But why?

I was under the impression that the book covers were written by Khriss or Nazh. If so, they are almost certainly not Terris.

We have a general idea (or think we do) why Hoid is collecting different kinds of Investiture, but why his Mraize? The more I think about that, the more it weirds me out. I assumed at first it was just trophies, but I don't think so.

That would mean, Feruchemy is not truly end-neutral. There is a recent WOB at the JordanCon RAFOlympics about things people on Scadrial call end-neutral, really aren't.

We know that some people left Southern Scadrial and settled in the Cognitive Realm. We also know the IRE was there. Hoid referred to an economy, and that implies industry. The Cognitive Realm was certainly lush enough for people to settle. And if there is room, people are good at settling in places, particularly if where they are fleeing from is not very hospitable, or if they can make a better living there. Once you put it that way, it is rather inevitable that people will settle it, if it wasn't already settled. That said, I would love to see a shard on a rouge planet, not attached to any star.

I wonder if things will change (ie. his ability to hurt others), if Hoid gets some of Odium's investiture. He certainly didn't hold back on Kelsier in M:SH.

Just a comment on the name, ettmetal. When Mendeleev was first constructing his periodic table, and he knew he had spots for unknown elements, he called them ekasilicon, ekaaluminium and ekaboron. Eka and et just seemed very similar, and are both prefixes for unknown materials. Also, eka is 1 in sanskrit, which is why Mendeleev used it.

If any one is interested, you can use the option in Amazon to read just a portion of White Sand, just a few pages here and there, really. But it is enough, for us to see what character was gender swapped. Sometimes those kind of swaps are rough on the actual characterization. But in this case, I am intrigued.

It is a real shame we can't get a Liar of Partinel forum, in the Unpublished works forum. That is one I really want to discuss.

I suspect that is overthinking it about the Dynastic border, especially as it seems a lot of people actually get through. Apparently a lot fewer make their way back. But why would we say that there is less investiture on the Darkside? It just seems that they have a different kind of magic. Apparently no know knows about SkyColors on the Bright side.

The only thing that annoyed me about Dune, was that there was nothing for the Sand Worms to feed on. At least on this world, there is some kind of biological cycle, some kind of photosynthesis in the sand grains. In his visit to the Deep Sand, what he sees is a flourishing ecosystem of sandlings, presumably all living off the sand.

Keep in mind, that all life on our planet (Earth) needs water. But there are plenty of other solvents out there. Other alien kinds of life may not need or want, water. For the early part of Earth's history, oxygen was toxic. It was only when some algae began to produce it, and killed off the anaerobic bacteria, that we started getting oxygen breathing. Water is useful for humans, but if that creatures we see are any clue, humans are as out of place here as humans on Roshar.
