[OB] Clue to Odium's Imprisonment? (Spoilers)
ZenBossanova replied to Obnoxiousspren's topic in Stormlight Archive
Two thoughts: why can we still hear death rattles from long dead people? Why have they not gone to the Spiritual Realm? Has the same thing that has trapped them also trapped Odium? Second, I think Aimia was scoured by the Skybreakers, using their surges of Division and Gravitation. Considering it is located behind Shinovar, it should have topsoil, but that is completely missing. If Gravitation was used, it could explain why the word Scour was used. Thirdly, it is interesting in Edgedancer, Perhaps the Skybreakers attacked Aimia, for the same reason they have been killing proto-Radiants. Attacking enmass, they are the only group I can think of, that exists after Recreance, who would have a chance of killing them. One quote from the Aimian in favor One quote in possible opposition -
how was aimia invaded in the first place?
ZenBossanova replied to king of nowhere's topic in Stormlight Archive
So, if we compare the Reshi Isles to Recife, Brazil (5 degrees South, latitude) and Thaylenah to the Falkland Islands (52 degrees South, latitude), then on that would be a N/S distance of (52 - 5)*69 = 3243 miles. If Roshar is 90% the linear dimensions, then we are looking at 2918.7 miles, N/S for Roshar geography. Depending on where the actual equator and poles are, could change my calculator significantly. Taking a ruler to my book, I get that same distance as 14 cm. Aimia is roughly 1 cm x 4 cm. This gives us a rough upper limit on the size of Aimia as 173770 square miles. That would make it just slightly larger than California (163,696 square miles). Shardmops? On a more serious note, I think it is interesting just how merciless the Aimian was against the Skybreakers. He didn't even give them a chance. Perhaps he holds a grudge because it was the Skybreakers who scoured Aimia, using the surges of Division and Gravitation. Perhaps the Skybreakers attacked Aimia, for the same reason they have been killing proto-Radiants. Attacking enmass, they are the only group I can think of, that exists after Recreance, who would have a chance of killing them. One quote from the Aimian in favor "Ancient Radiants called me friend and ally before everything went wrong". One quote in possible opposition "[Nale] knows to stay way from me and my kind". -
A theory on recreating Adonalsium
ZenBossanova replied to Staphylococcus's topic in Cosmere Discussion
One related thing I have pondered, would it be possible for 2 different shards, to share their investiture and powers? For instance, what if Cultivatation and Endowment each wanted some of each other's powers, so they each gave each other equal sized parts of their shards? -
Apologies if this has been suggested, but perhaps the great secret that lead to the Recreance is that the same things that bind Odium on Braize, also bind deceased Radiants there. Perhaps the Dawnshards are trapped there as well, and they can't be retrieved without opening the prison.

I presumed this was 3 distinct Bondsmith spren named Larry, Moe and Curly. Distinct yes, but the same kind of spren, like Syl know other honorspren but is distinct. I think this is a difference without a distinction, but I don't have enough to prove it.
-
True, probably, but missing the point. A spren (or Seon, or Skaze, etc) are a tiny piece of a shard. The Cognitive gain is the same, regardless of whether you have a tiny piece of shard (spren) or a tiny link to the full shard. Either way, it exists in the Cognitive Realm (as well as other realms) and it has a Cognitive effect. So, we should see some kind of an effect in Mistborn, even though there are no Harmony-spren. That is too narrow a way to view the Cognitive Realm. Muscle Memory is a matter of nerves and neuron connections. It is cognitive even in the Real World. A two spren might have one surge in common, but if they had two surges in common, they would be the same kind of spren. If we know of any counter-examples, I would love to hear it. There may be some commonality, but I doubt we will see too much repetition. Let me propose an even stronger statement: The spren and the Surges they have, all have a Physical Aspect, a Cognitive Aspect and a Spiritual Aspect.
-
Masterful! That makes a lot of sense, especially for a Cognitive Entity.
-
More like, Honor helps honorable intentions. Perhaps Ambition (or what is left of him) helps those with ambitious goals.
-
If these Dawnshards are lost, then does that suggest Odium has them? Or where else could they be lost?

I think someone suggested Ambition. It makes sense in a lot of ways.

[OB] Clue to Odium's Imprisonment? (Spoilers)
ZenBossanova replied to Obnoxiousspren's topic in Stormlight Archive
This is entirely correct. Honor and Cultivation, themselves, are the most likely architects of the actual prison. But the Aimians may have a small scale insight into how that works. I suspect anyway. -

@Blightsong It is just a good thing Brandon would never do that, mislead people and all. -
[OB] Clue to Odium's Imprisonment? (Spoilers)
ZenBossanova replied to Obnoxiousspren's topic in Stormlight Archive
Axies said the Scouring wasnt long ago For an immortal being, just what defines a long time? I really am unclear on the timeline here, and the time scale involved. Evidently, it was long enough for legends to develop. I don't know that the Aimians were part of the Oathpact, but they didn't really need to be. I am just suggesting that they were involved in crafting the prison, and let the Heralds put Odium in there. Or in the very least, they did something that kept Odium imprisoned and it was enough of a danger to Odium, that Aimia was scoured. (Maybe? Timeline unclear). It was certainly enough that the Aimian from the interlude to say that worlds were at stake. I see no reason for Aimians to be weaker in Magic than the humans Surgebinders and the Parshendi Voidbringers. -
[OB] Clue to Odium's Imprisonment? (Spoilers)
ZenBossanova replied to Obnoxiousspren's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think we really need to take into account what Aimian said in the latest excerpt. Fact: Aimia was scoured for some reason, probably (but not necessarily) around the time of the Desolations. Fact: Aimians can make fabrials that are unique, and fabrials work with trapped spren, or spren put to a single purpose. Fact: Something is trapped in Gavilar's black sphere. (spren, mega-spren, demigod, or just some extra Void-Light.... who knows) Fact: Something has Odium trapped. Once you put those facts all in one place, it really sounds like the Aimians have a lot to do with why and how Odium is trapped -
Humans: Surgebinding via Honor/Cultivation, and/or Odium(?) Parshendi: Forms of power via Honor/Cultivation(?), and/or Odium It has a nice symmetry to it. It is reasonable, given the rules of the magic - so something like what Brandon would do. Now we just have to find out if it is true. Edit: What do the Spren get out of this? Do we get more out of the partnership than they get? That doesn't seem right.

[OB] [Oathbringer Spoilers] Aimia/Larkins
ZenBossanova replied to Blightsong's topic in Stormlight Archive
I understand that soulcasters want and need there to be a solution. And the most logical place to go, is where they were made. If anybody knew, it is the people there. But that was hundreds, if not thousands of years ago. If this were Earth, the Last Desolation would have happened around the time of Moses. So, I would take any rumors with a healthy grain (or sack) of salt. Now, how important could a Larkin be for rebuilding the eco-system of Aimia, or giving us the next generation of Aimians.... that is an interesting question, but that would be a threadjack. Limitations of Awakening with Stormlight.
ZenBossanova replied to Calderis's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Gems can hold Stormlight... but they can't do much if Awakened. Possibly, it might make for unique kinds of fabrials. Navani might be very interested. -
What about a Listener-form with an Honor Spren? Do they have Honor-forms?

My headcanon was that the Old Magic was a pre-Shattering Adonalsium-based magic. -

ZenBossanova replied to iamstick's topic in Stormlight Archive
Thanks @Fulminato I thought I remembered something like that. I suppose, that if Parshendi forms isn't considered a separate magic system, then Aimian-made fabrials wouldn't be either. It would just be a unique way they interface with the magic. -
Warform, just for clarity

Did anyone mention Warform ?

[OB] [Oathbringer Spoilers] Soulcaster side effects
ZenBossanova replied to iamstick's topic in Stormlight Archive
Question, there was a chart in the cover of The Way of Kings, that was theorized to be a Void binding chart. Was that ever verified? It just occurred to me that it would be a great chart for Aimian-made fabrials, especially since the edges of the chart have soulcasters and the background is stormy clouds (like that unusual storm the sailors encountered). -

Have we seen any savantism with any other fabrials? Or just the Aimian-made ones? I don't even see a way to get savantism with the ones Navani makes, though perhaps I should take a closer look. They don't seem as 'personal', for lack of a better word.
