But it's still magic, right? Doesn't that mean that intent is not always required? That's assuming he cannot turn it on/off.

Or not born in the Forests of Hell, at least. It's still undetermined if the Homeland was a different planet or not. We know at this point that Threnody is in it's own system and the Cosmere is a dwarf galaxy so the same stars can be seen from most of the planets. It does seem to be close to Sel and Scadrial though, based on Mistborn: Secret History. Our best bet for learning more is when Arcanum Unbound comes up, because it will include a congnitive map and Khriss is writing something about each of the planets (or maybe systems). I think the God Beyond and the Great Beyond, etc. are all things Brandon has no plans to touch on. It's his way of keeping discussions about the real-world afterlife, Heaven, intense discussions about real-world religions, etc. I could be wrong about that, but I thought I read a generic WoB or WoP on it at some point. Or maybe it was from the people doing translations (e.g. FeatherWriter). Anyway, assuming that's true then something must be preventing them from moving to the Beyond and the big question is what that something is. Her mother was very strong-willed, so maybe she can resist it better. Or maybe it has to do with being surrounded by silver. It could just be a strong reminder giving her grandmother a willpower boost. Or maybe it offers some form of protection against whatever is affecting cognitive shadows in the Forest of Hell. I'm leaning towards the silver playing a part. I guess we should be glad this is in the Cosmere or might never have a chance to learn about it.

What's Endowment's motivation though? The warning about a future war sparked said future war. Was that the intent?

I bought the eBook from Amazon -- just more convenient (iPad, iPhone sync, easier to hop between chapters, highlights, etc.). Plus, it's an investment in future books. If SA3 was released online I would still pick it up on Amazon.

I do not see how the above can be interpreted as Ignoring the grammar issues, your interpretation goes against the knowledge we already know from the books and WoBs. For example, how can Hoid be bringing the touch of Adonalsium to Roshar when we know Adonlasium had already been there? The touch and design is already there, so Hoid would be adding to it, not bringing it there.

The "life drained from them" lends it credibility. Good catch. Regaring necro'sing a thread, some peopl,e may only read on the weekends, or could be out on vacation for a week or two. I don't think those qualify as necro-ing a thread. Probably more like closer to a month or two. Also, if the thread is appropriate, necro'ing it is okay.

On the other hand, I have a hard time imaging Truthwatchers performing hemalurigc experiments (basically, killing lots of test subjects to see what happens). I expect them to have some form of ethics. Shallan may regret joining the Ghostbloods, though we know so little about them it's hard to say. They definitely seem like more of an an ends-justify-the-means organization, so anti-hero at best. Not sure if anyone can top Taravangian on the ends-justify-the-means front.... Though Roshar is a pretty brutal place, so we should expect lots of shades of gray.

An obvious one is the desire to live. And for healing specifically, people rest, sleep, and sometimes even go comatose to allow the body to heal faster.

Don't forget where Kaladin hid him at the end of WoR. He ate the soup without much complaining at all. There have certainly been signs of humility and it feels like Brandon has been foreshadowing Lightweaver for some time. The only mark against that is maybe it's too obvious. But being part of an organization like the KRs instead of thrust into the weak ruler role could benefit him. Maybe he could he even make a real friend. I will be curious to see what he makes of events in Kholinar.

So what's this one?

@Oversleep No, I did not know what you meant. Sometimes semantics do matter. "Intuitive" never crossed my mind, and I am not nitpicking because I actually believe your premise is false. And I think you actually did provide an example showing why. "Intuitively" makes even less sense to me. If Miles or Hoid has their head blown off, does their respective body/spiritual self "intuitively" know that it should heal? Or "Instinctively"? Instinctively makes much more sense in that context. If anyone is arguing semantics it's you, because if something is intuitive then there is some kind of subconcious process going on. You don't "think through" intuitive. As a side note, the birds in Sixth of the Dust are likely another example of "instinct".

We have a new WOB from the RAFOlympics (transcription document) that Vasher had been to Roshar before creating Nightblood (though it doesn't tell us if that was before or after he Returned, though afterwards seems like a good guess since he's back there again).

Can someone in the Beyond affect the Physical Realm?
Argel replied to Stranker's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I think it's Brandon's way of avoiding real-world philosophical religious discussions in his Fantasy novels, which only works if there are few details. -
Yeah, but they could have still been the inspiration.

Warbreaker spoilers: @Oversleep You should probably spoiler tag the Warbreaker stuff....

Lightweavers might be the Strongest of the 10 Radiant Groups

So... which Herald is going to turn out to be the mad scientist? As a side note, someone needs to revive the Roshar vs. Scadrial threads....- 32 replies

They may have seen the practice guards.

Let's not forget it's Oath first then the Truth's start. So how far along was she back before having to almost start over?

How are we counting Nightblood? Didn't Brandon describe it as an automaton/robot spren or something along those lines?

Isn't Brandon using the fundamental forces of physics in the Roshar magic systems? Or something along those lines?- 32 replies

Lightweavers might be the Strongest of the 10 Radiant Groups
Argel replied to TheBlueShifting's topic in Stormlight Archive
Why be scared when you could have nightmares... So, Hoid also seems to have Perfect Pitch, likely from Nalthis (Warbreaker). Could that help with controlling his Lightweaving? Back to Shallan, maybe Mraize will become the hunted... By the way, Pattern likes to buzz, hum, etc. Seems to tie-in well with your theory.- 32 replies
