  1. @Doctor12 Well it's a little complicated... Chinese does not function as alphabet system things. Our words, known as Characters, are not formed from 26 alphabets as English does. Each Character sometimes has several meanings. So it would turn out to be that, we have limited pronunciations, but unlimited characters as long as it was invented. One pronunciation could be linked to several Characters. And as your question, I should take a example: For instance, Tien in SA Taiwan Edition, is translated 提恩, which is made up of two Characters, 提(ti) and 恩(en or un) 提 means lifting something up 恩 could sometimes mean grace or gratitude But the translation Tien does not contain the meaning of lifting or gratitude. It's just because the pronunciations are familiar to the original word Tien. And we readers know it's a foreign name, so we wouldn't interpret it as "lifting grace" something. It's just a name. But if the term has specific meaning, not just a name, we will translate it by its meaning. Like Stormfather, we called 颶父(G fu), as 颶 means hurricane, 父 means father. And because the traditional(Taiwan) and simplified(Mainland China) editions are separated, translations in these two might be different. There's more information about Chinese in Wikipedia, so you could learn much more if interested in it. All in all, Chinese works very different from alphabet systems, hope you like my explanations XD
  2. That's just drawing target after breaking arrows. It's a tucked answer, which might probably not be Brandon's mean. Or 1024 was not a original setting, just fit in the setting that "FE had lasted for a thousand years"?
  3. We didn't translate Tien into something like sweet, it's just a name. And I believe it's a coincidence Brandon did not intend to make. (Btw traditional Chinese user here, from Taiwan
  4. @Yata okay then, thanks for the information:)) Btw Sazed's deduction, to me, is not enough, don't forget at that time he hadn't got the idea of Adonalsium and other Shards, meaning that he's not know-it-all when authoring Words of Founding.
  5. @Yata I know it's in-world, but is it just Sazed's deduction? It's the core of my theory. If there's any WoB to confirm that 16 just represents Preservation, I'll be very grateful.
  6. This theory contains not much spoilers, and I'm looking forward to any corrections or discussion: In HoA, Sazed implied that 16 is a signal Preservation left for mankind and it deeply revolved in the way cosmere functions. However, is it a conclusion Sazed speculated, or a confirmed information he got? (I prefer to use "he" on Sazed) The cycle of Well of Ascension is 1024 years. And it's 2^10. So it does not perfectly corresponded with number 16, which is 2^4 (2x2x2x2). Besides, the Allomantic metals are perfectly paired and distributed. So it's a little different from Shard distribution--- they are not definitely counterpart to specific another, even Preservation and Ruin, they are not absolutely objective to each other. But we can't confirm this yet, for other 7 haven't been known. However I still feel that Shards can't be paired as Metals do. So for reasons above, I suggest that what number Preservation represents is 2 rather than 16, though I had no positive evidence on 2. But several objectives on 16. If you think they are convincing. Any ideas?
  7. Nale: Son-Naruto Szeth—— Szeth: It's Neturo, Nin. Neturo. ======= Nale: Son-Nutella Sze—— Szeth: Stone you I thought you were the only normal one._.
  8. It's called Honorblades. Anyway that Shardblade was not Taln's Honorblade. And the plot of swapping seems to be a problem to be solved in SA3, as I believe so.
  9. Good theory for fun, but it contains too many speculations without convincing evidences. Though everyone wants to know where Vivenna is, she's unlikely getting involved into SA for now, however I would be very amused if she comes into play.
  10. Jasnah's Nahel spren is named Ivory, and it's a male. I have the same observations as yours, but we cannot be sure about that XD Btw @Yata I've known you're not native speaker of English :)) But curious what's your nationality :3
  11. I remembered that the 4th book will take the POV of Szeth while 5th will be Eshonai. (But I can't provide any quote@@) Nale also appeared in the very night, would it be possible that he become the POV of 4th SA? While, maybe Gavilar himself will be of 5th prologue. Just blindshots.
  12. So basically, asker @Stranker, your question might not have a certain answer for now, just discussions XD But it's an thinking expansion on issue Beyond, thx anyway
  13. Well, Beyond is not equal to God Beyond. Beyond is somewhere out of 3 realms of Cosmere, and is the place ppl's soul head to after death. Somewhere like "The other shore of life". And what I feel is, since Beyond is out of 3 realms, and seems to be least close to PR, I wonder that something in Beyond could even touch PR. But safer to be conservative on this. Interesting question, though.
  14. 1. Aona and AonDor. It's not a coincidence, as well as Skai and Skaze is. It's a strong evidence so far, rather than our own interpretations. 2. And don't forget that the voice Raoden heard in the Elantrian Pool. It tended to be feminine and soft, persuading him to devote himself in. No matter what state the voice is, it's more likely of Devotion. 3. The Shaod affects those who devoted themselves into something, it corresponded to Intent Devotion, while Fjordell is yearn to rule the whole Sycla, showing its Intent Dominion. Just provide some conservative opinions that shouldn't be ignored. Do we have any quotes that AonDor is of Devotion?
  15. Excuse me..? Isn't AonDor of Devotion and Dakhor of Dominion? I'm pretty sure about that. Any quotes or WoB against this?
  16. Wait do we have any citation or WoB to assure that the tortureland is Braize?
  17. Possible. Splinters are tied with Shardworlds, since we have WoB that it's very difficult for sprens to leave Shadesmar areas to other Expanses. The bond btwn splinters and their homeland might be quite strong. But I don't think it's because of Investiture. Kelsier is a kind of Innate Investiture for all the Scadrian are invested by Preservation at first. And Vasher, as a Returned, is kinda Innate Investiture, too. Therefore, even tge Innate Investiture is not the reason for being unable to leave born Shardworlds. Maybe why Kel couldn't leave is because he had become Cognitive. CogRealm seems to be pretty strict on these issues.
  18. I maybe understand why you said this, but it's just the matter of identity. In Elantris, he's beggar directed by Sarene, therefore it's not a proper situation to flirt ppl as when he's Wit. In FE, similar state. He pretended to be skaa so it was not a time for him to be wordsmith things. In WoA, refugee leader. Not fit to show his cleverness as well. In HoA, however, his acts looked pretty similar to the state of Wit. There's no need to conceal his... Wit-style at this time. And then Nalthis and Roshar, the story-telling Hoid might be no problem to be the same one in your opinion. And don't forget there's Secret History beating Kelsier scene as well, pretty "Hoid" as he's at Roshar. Conclusion. We actually had little scenes to figure out Hoid's personality in Mistborn trilogy and Elantris, most of these scenes are just not fine for him to be Wit. It's also improper to judge his personality by these few words. Rather than Roshar and Nalthis, where he had much more plots for us to know him.
  19. Yes there are two Hoids. But the one we are discussing and appeared in the books so far is just ONE SINGLE PERSON. The Hoid we know was originally named Midius, and Hoid was his mentor's name. Then Midius used the name Hoid in all the stories we've seen so far. Since Elantris till now, just ONE Hoid. The story of original Hoid and Midius was on Yolen, in which we haven't involved. Technically, when we sharders are talking about "Hoid", we mean the original person Midius, not his mentor. Anyway there are two people named Hoid. But not the condition as you thought. It's just fine to focus on the Hoid we know so far, as for the original one, we'll have more information in Dragonsteel Prequels.
  20. Cognitive Realm Sun might not be the afterlife. Shallan once saw the Sparks doused after the Physical entities died. If the sun is actually the gathering of dead souls or Great Beyond, these Sparks should've gone up to the sky, not just ceased and gone. However the theory is pretty persuasive. Physical sizes are nothing important in CogRealm, it means that the center should be something meaningful for concepts or perceptions. The original Adonalsium mind is still a good candidate, as a result.
  21. Actually, Wyndle refers to Nightwatcher as his mother, not Cultivation. And don't forget that Stormfather is considered Syl's father something.
  22. This makes a lot of sense! At least for me. Especially the reasonable observations and deduction. Thx for the idea:)
  23. Excuse me... I'm not sure whether it is proper to have THIS here. We are at Cosmere "Theories". Hope this won't be too aggressive:)) The plate is pretty awesome, though.
  24. I emphasized it to be Shard DIVINE, not Shard Power, which means the power and vessel both. Adonalsium's splinters would have their own intents, too. As we know that Investiture in stable states will gradually grow sentient, if there had been no 16 taking the Shards, the Shard Power would have grown into their self-awareness as well. So they are basically the same, in philosophy. Though in our discussion they really should be considered quite different. Well my opinion is actually redundant on this topic, sorry:3
  25. Well, I'm not sure which part of it do you mean. You mean everything is from god something? Well most philosophy considered that, so that's not something special. The idea of Adonalsium is directly from Spinoza, I'm confident on that.
