  1. It's just the matter of terminology. Maybe because of my cultural background, I would say that they are basically the same thing, just different in their sizes. Adonalsium? Sentient investiture. Shard divines? Sentient investiture. Splinters? Except for Breaths, sentient investiture. (Breaths might grow sentient as well, if leaving man body long enough) Shards are from Adonalsium, and splinters are from Shards. They are basically all the same, just about the big scale or small. All of above has their own intents. They just shrink to the smaller ideals. It might be too idealistic, but I mean BASICALLY. Undoubtedly they should be considered different when discussing, but they are really close in their properties.
  2. Yes, the idea of Adonalsium is probably from Spinoza's philosophy. He considers the God is equal to the whole universe. Each part of the cosmos, including us, is just a little, little piece of God. To learn more concepts he adopted for Cosmere, you can check out the "Development" part of entry "Cosmere" in Coppermind and theories in Wikipedia.
  3. I just wondered whether Honor was splintered or just killed. There's a lot of difference btwn them. Which paragraph or WoB have ever mentioned the growing pop of spren? Quote please We just know Dominion and Devotion passively created Skaze and Seon. But splinters needn't be produced by a Shard's death, as we know Endowment is still alive while BioChromatic Breaths are her splinters.
  4. Marvel is based on Energy and Infinity Stones. Cosmere is based on Investiture and Shards. Seriously it's meaningless to compare Shardblade, Shield and Mjonir. Since all of them are considered invincible. But Shield should be able to stand Shardblades, for only Vandorium(wrong spell) are only harmed by their own kind and able to absorb all kinds of energy.
  5. Maybe? However the bursting increase of sprenity should've caused some history or phenomenon on Roshar. But we don't have any clue about it. At least I believe this would have an effect on Physical Roshar. And recorded by ppl. However, it's very reasonable of your perspective. We just need more evidence. What if Honor were just killed, not splintered?
  6. Actually, sprens could be splinters of Honor and try to copy the bond between Heralds and Blades. They needn't be directly from Adonalsium. There is no conflict btwn two aspects. Remind that Syl stated that Honor still lives in her and in Mankind's heart. This is unlikely just something encouraging, but a hint on our topic.
  7. Not exactly. I don't think the splinters of Honor was made from his death. Splinters could be produced even when the Shard is still alive. Endowment for example. Surgebinding had existed before Death of Honor. So did Nahel Sprens, which are seemingly from Honor, or they're OF Honor, or of H+C. It makes no sense that Nahel sprens appeared after Honor's Death. They should've been created long before the event. Sprens kept mentioning that Honor lives in Mankind's heart and themselves. Their words are not metaphors but somewhat truth. I believe, despite maybe wrong, the splintering of Honor lead up to some different consequences but spren.
  8. Yata, yet we cannot be sure about the belong of the sprenity. It's hard to even have a clear guess the state of Shadesmar now. We could be sure that: *Some sprens have communities, even factors, civilization etc. Like Honorspren, Cryptic, even Wyndle's species. *Not all the sprens are sapiens. According to Jasnah's description. *Some sprens are gradually returning to Physical Roshar, like Pattern(sent by his tribe), Syl(betray Stormfather), Wyndle(sent as well). This is, however, not an evidence about the amount of different sprenity. *We so far have no confirmation on ANY spren's belong --- to Honor, Culti, Odium, or Adonalsium. Even if Syl calls herself Honorspren. *Stormfather referred to Syl as his "daughter", while Wyndle indicated Nightwatcher to be "mother". *Stormfather is something like the Cognitive projections of The Almighty. *Nightwatcher has a lot to deal with Cultivation, more than any other known character. That's all I can put together for now. Btw, any idea for Cusicesh? (more H or C?)
  9. That's quite a new theory, respectable. The deduction Jasnah mentioned in WoR might not be reasoned to the conclusion that Emotionsprens are of Honor and vice versa. Really interesting new notion:) Well there's no denying that we don't have enough clue on this topic yet...
  10. I said they are OF Honor and Cultivation, didn't mean they are FROM them. What I wanna get sure about is whether SF & NW represent Shards and manage the whole sprenity. Besides, I consider the Adonalsium spren of Roshar to be rare. Most species are developed from the shard(power) of the Shards(deities).
  11. I should have described more clearly. What I mean is exactly the guide figure rather than Bioparents. After all spren are not made out from biological reproducting processes. Also thanks for reminding, but I believe many perspectives had changed after Shards arrived Roshar. Maybe the old spren also agreed SF & NW to be their guide figure.
  12. Here's my conclusion of two SA so far, and I'm not sure this speculation has been confirmed or common-known, so just have a look: In WoR, we could see that Wyndle, Lift's Nahel spren, called Nightwatcher as "mother", as well as Stormfather indicated Syl as his "daughter". This is the first clue. Secondly, we can be sure that except for the Voidsprens, all Roshar spren are of Honor or/and Cultivation. Thirdly, we know that Stormfather is the cognitive projection of Almighty, referring to as Honor; while Nightwatcher is deeply involved with Culti. So they are the symbol spren of the two Shards. So, can we say that SF and NW are at the position of parents of all spren species? Looking forward to any new suggestions:))
  13. Sorry, Secret History isn't available in my country so far, got no chance to read that yet.
  14. I agree with that Threnody is in PR, what I actually mean is that Threnody has a little more proportion of Cognitive so that Shades are easier to interact with the Physical. Just like Lift has a little more proportion of Cognitive so that she is able to touch Wyndle.
  15. Mist is the PHYSICAL manifestations of Preservation, pretty doubt that it'll be similar. However, the CR of Scadrial is called "Expanse of Vapors" in Shadesmar, so it's still possible...?
  16. Well the Evil and Shades are mostly OF COGNITIVE, so if not the whole, Threnody itself might be more of cognitive than other Shardworlds. Ps: I believe what your mean is "I didn't see ANYTHING that may suggest it", just grammar correction lol.
  17. Great analysis, but so far we cannot be sure that "Survival" is a shard, not to mention whether its intent is related to surviving or something. But really great analysis. All of us have a sufficient reason to believe there's a equilibrium btwn Culti, Ruin and Preservation. The two on Scadrial were just coincidentally counterpart to each other, doesn't mean they're the only possible match.
  18. I'm a fan from Taiwan and I've got this clue for a long time (over a year) When Brandon came to Taipei last spring, I asked him the Vessel name of Cultivation and I got the reply like this: Q: Please tell me the name of holder of Cultivation A: Hoid calls her SLAMMER... but that's not her real name As we've known that Tanavast had used some way to prevent Odium from escaping Greater Roshar (solar system), mentioned in the Letter in WoR Would it be possible that Cultivation inherit, or engage in the captivation plan to seal Odium? Ps: yeah the Roshar at the bottom is my own recreation XD
  19. I'm always confused with relationship between these four metals: Gold, Electrum, Atium, Malatium. Their effects seems to get wrong, maybe just a unrecoverable mistake Brandon did in his early writing era, the time when Cosmere or Allomancy system hadn't been fully completed, but the chance is pretty low, for his style of planning things well. But it's also annoying of imperfect pairing effects, for an OCD XD
  20. Sorry, not catching up. How is it related to Aluminum???Well I was asking @Stormgate... I found that he REALLY LIKES to get Aluminum involved.
  21. It suddenly occurred to me that Hoid and Frost referred to Adonalsium as God of Cosmere. A convincing proof that it is an entity more than a force. Currently.
  22. Citation needed plz >..<
  23. Agree with Ari. Brandon's reply seems like that it's not a coincidence but not directly related, either. Besides Brandon had mentioned that the most investiture are based on establishED law of that Shardworld, Shards just made them more systemic. I don't really think that metals could totally pair with Shards. Maybe Preservation expanded some kinds of Metal and made the Allomantic System completed, yeah good, but system itself is still unable to fully paired with all Shards. Conclusion. If we or Preservation do intend to explain which kind of metal refers to one Shard, it'll need a lot of artificial and deliberate explanations.
  24. @Argent I still believe that Adonalsium was shattered by not a group but ONE entity, for the Coppermind showing that Adonai was opposed by Something and IT created kinda weapon. (That whether Shards are weapon is worth discussing in other topics) Besides Brandon might just wanna mislead us by Khriss' theory. I don't really think he would reveal any truth before Shattering in such an obvious way. Also, Khriss hasn't arrived Yolen yet, her information might have a great chance to get wrong.
  25. Yup, it's pretty clear of Khriss' state on reasons of shattering. But we still need further information involving Hoid and Frost etc., for their relationship with 1st Vessels, it's even complicated than before. Do you guys think Adonalsium was a identity(god), or force(of creation)? I prefer the former, for now.
