  1. I would like to add that there are often ways for young men (and women, for that matter) to serve in different capacities if they have special circumstances. For example, I know someone with bipolar disorder who did a "service mission" where he lived with his family and did genealogical work and service projects instead of being sent to a foreign country or another state to preach to strangers. The Church's top authorities consider each case individually and pray about it to make sure the mission fits the missionary, and in this case, they decided that it would have been hazardous to send him far away among strangers who weren't practiced in helping him deal with his disorder or where he might not be able to get necessary medication.
  2. Also Twi I Read a bit on that tvtropes page and I think I'd rather believe it's a trollfic than that the author actually thinks they are writing a good story.
  3. @Morzathoth New favorite response for when someone is being a cremhole: "Don't be a Sadeas."
  4. No need. I can confirm that the forum does not notify when you get a downvote. Also, @Kaymyth, you should absolutely document the process of creating your latest cosplay!
  5. There is no such thing as a horrible Star Wars pun. All Star Wars puns are fabulous.
  6. I remember reading somewhere that chocolate melts at about the human body temperature--98.6 Fahrenheit. Which makes sense, since chocolate melts when you put it in your mouth or if you hold it in your hand for too long.
  7. No kidding about the Louisiana swamp. Warm, wet environments like swamps are horrendous breeding hotbeds for parasites and bacteria and all sorts of nasty crem. Twi, I hope you and the vet are able to figure out what's bothering Bruce and how to fix it quickly.
  8. Lots of things made me happy today. 1. On my drive to work, I saw a motorcyclist wearing a half-mask over the lower part of his face. The mask was printed to look like a skull, and it reminded me of the Marvel character Crossbones. 2. During the same drive, I saw a license plate that read "8 COWIF", a reference to the video Johnny Lingo (an older but still popular video among Mormons), and could not stop laughing at it. 3. Once I parked, I found a hummingbird and a family of goldfinches in the parking lot, including one finch fledgling flapping its wings and cheeping at its parents to feed it. Adorable! 4. The high temperature today was only in the low 70s (Fahrenheit, obviously), which is astonishing for Utah in July, and a very pleasant change from the 90+ weather we've been having recently. 5. I've been listening to the band Postmodern Jukebox in my car. 6. I got free dinner at a church-sponsored event, plus a small takeout box of leftover brownies.
  9. Use a Rube Goldberg machine to paint the White House hot pink!
  10. @ChocolateRob I will have to check out Girl Genius and Namesake! They both sound right up my alley.
  11. I too was displeased with some of the changes they made in the vampire mythology--most notably the inability of vampires to kill other vampires--and Henry's back story, but I still enjoyed the movie as a whole. Those two things come a lot more into play in the second book, so if I were expecting a sequel movie I would probably be more up in arms about it (see the Eragon movie for an example of moviemakers' epic failure to plan for a sequel), but the book did cover like 50 years of Abe's life in significant detail, and there's no practical way to cram all that into a 2-hour movie and have it still be entertaining to a general moviegoing audience who have probably, as a majority, not read the book.
  12. Wait, Twi, what episode is that from?
  13. Too late; already watched it. I didn't think it was all that awful, as adaptations go. (Although maybe that was because I spent a large portion of the movie distracted by thoughts of "Storm it, that actor looks SO familiar; where have I seen him before??" and "Dominic Cooper is very handsome" and "Hey look, it's Falcon!")
  14. Honestly, Finding Dory was everything I could have hoped for in a followup to Finding Nemo. I thought it was utterly adorable, heartwarming, and funny. And "Piper," the short at the beginning, had me almost in tears because it was so cute.
  15. Grh. I can only sort my "liked" quotes on GoodReads by Favorite, Date Added, Random, or Popularity. What I really want is an option to sort by author so that I can find the one I'm looking for easily.
  16. But for real, Loki might make a better president than Hillary or Trump. I mean, at least he's honest about how dastardly he is.
  17. No dice there either, at least not in the forum's reply box.
  18. Got to meet Victoria Schwab tonight during her tour for her new book, This Savage Song. I now have a shiny new copy of it, autographed--plus she doodled a cat on the title page.
  19. Good idea, but it doesn't seem to be working.
  20. I know a keyboard shortcut for Macs to umlaut letters, but I have a PC and have usually resorted to copypasta when I've needed them for assignments in my German classes.
  21. @Burnt Spaghetti Now that you mention it, that TOTALLY fits.
  22. Yeah, Twi, I was seriously impressed with the guy taking their order. He kept his cool the whole time. I made a point of telling him after I'd gotten my food that he was doing customer service right, and then I proceeded to give him top marks on the online customer satisfaction survey after he alerted me to its existence. Also thankfully it was like almost 9pm so there weren't too many other people waiting.
  23. Dear family of 5 in the line ahead of me at KFC, next time please decide what you all want to eat before reaching the front of the line instead of wasting 10 minutes of everyone's time while you ask each of your 3 terminally indecisive children what they want.
  24. @Eki unfortunately my American keyboard does not have the umlauted characters. But in all honesty even if it did I would not have thought to use it in this instance because I didn't recall seeing the umlauted spelling in the news reports.
