Queen Elsa Steelheart hates cold weather? o.0 Also, the word "Islamophobia." When you call something a phobia, you're asserting that the fear of whatever is irrational. Fear of Islam is NOT irrational, not after the heinous crimes that have been committed in recent months and years by self-professed Muslims in the name of their beliefs. *prepares for backlash*

I have never understood why the official transliteration of the TARDIS noise is "Vworp." That's not what it sounds like at all.

It's absolutely fantastic. Funny and cute and heartwarming all at the same time. You may need to bring tissues to the theater if you are prone to crying at happy endings.

I wanted to post "Piper," the short that shows before "Finding Dory," but apparently it hasn't been released on the Internet yet. It's SO CUTE.
-
Aww, that short is adorable, Twi! It made me want to go rewatch Pixar's short "Lava."

Brandon has a Facebook, so if you have one too, you could send it that way.

Sensible people like him; those who don't are either misinformed or planning bad things. A chull is like a penguin.

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...

When you wear your Windrunner glyph pin to the pharmacy and the tech who rings you up compliments you on your "Spider-Man" pin, so you have to explain to her that it's from one of Brandon Sanderson's books and then proceed to give her recommendations for where to jump into the Sanderfandom. -

Ok, so a recent Dinosaur Whiteboard comic prompted me to start browsing TV Tropes, and when I came to The Nudifier I was disappointed not to find the exploding teddy bears from Alcatraz vs the Shattered Lens mentioned in the Literature section of the examples list.

I hope you mean everyone is blowing fireworks up and not blowing themselves up. o_O -
The only time I've ever been in a musical was when I played oboe in the pit orchestra for my high school's production of "Once Upon a Mattress," so I have no experience to offer. But I love your idea of dancing with a big ole fantasy novel. This is what this comment made me think of:

I feel the same way, Twi. In other news, I was highly amused to witness this scene at Wal-Mart today: Little girl: *points to green bell peppers* Green potatoes! Mother: No, Sweetie, those are peppers. Little girl: *points at carrots* Orange potatoes! *points at cucumbers* Green potatoes! Potato: it's the new catch-all term for vegetables. XD

The Good News Thread: I'm So Excited! And I Just Can't Hide It!

I didn't know 100% for certain, but on this site it's pretty safe to assume that. Update: today was an awesome day. For one thing, I heard a hummingbird twittering to himself on my way back to my car after work. I spent the whole drive home grinning like a lunatic. I also went to Book Trivia Night at the public library tonight, and it was a blast! We split up into teams and did 7 rounds of trivia, each with a theme and 10 questions. The themes: Books Made Into Musicals, Which Wizard Said It--Gandalf or Dumbledore?, Adventure Is Out There! (books involving a journey), It's a Mystery (Fill in the blank with book titles), Famous First Lines, Recent Bestsellers, and Lions and Tigers and Bears! (name the author that created the animal character). My teammates were very knowledgeable about the musicals. I only knew two answers that round, and they had to do with Hamilton and Phantom of the Opera. The Adventure Is Out There! round was frustrating because almost all the journeys took place in the boring real world; none of the questions were about The Hobbit or Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, which are two books I think would be obvious topics for that category. But at least we got the question about Huckleberry Finn right. The Gandalf vs Dumbledore round was one of our best ones--we got 9/10 of those correct, and I personally knew most of them. Answers from the Famous First Lines category (a round in which we scored well) included Moby-dick, Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Catcher in the Rye, Anna Karenina, 1984, and The Book Thief. Recent Bestsellers was a surprisingly bad round for my team... The only answer I knew was about Marissa Meyer's Lunar Chronicles--specifically the last book, which I haven't even read yet. XD We did better on the It's a Mystery category, though. One of the clues was "The _____ Falcon," and I'm pretty sure every single person in the room knew the answer was The Maltese Falcon. I think maybe the only one that stumped us that round was "The ______ at the Bottom of the Pie." None of us recognized the title, so we were trying to think what kind of things you would find at the bottom of a pie--a pan, the crust, cherry filling...? Turns out the answer was "The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie." My favorite round was Lions and Tigers and Bears! Working as a team, we answered all 10 questions correctly, but by myself I knew like 7 or 8 of the answers. Mostly carried my team for this round, which made me feel good. Question topics in this category included The Tale of Despereaux and Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo, Crookshanks and Mrs. Norris from Harry Potter, Redwall by Brian Jacques, Breehy-hinny-brinny-hoohy-hah (Bree for short) and Reepicheep from the Chronicles of Narnia, direwolves from the Game of Thrones books, Animal Farm by George Orwell, and The Mouse and the Motorcycle by Beverly Clearly. In the end, my team answered 55 of 70 questions correctly, which put us in 2nd place. (The 1st-place team scored 65/70.) As a prize, each member of my team got a $10 gift card to Barnes and Noble. I think I'm going to put mine towards buying White Sand Vol 1. Either that or the new illustrated edition of Alcatraz vs the Shattered Lens. -

When you see a wifi network named NIGHTHAWK and immediately become suspicious that there is a secret factory for Epic-derived weapons nearby. -
I thought of something else that happened that you might find entertaining... So this one guy came through the signing line and asked to get a brief sound recording of Brandon. The fan explained that he runs a podcast in which they have this running joke where every episode, they introduce a celebrity guest, who says, "Hi! Glad to be here," and then doesn't say another word for the whole episode. Brandon was happy to let the podcast guy record him saying hi to the podcast audience. I thought that was pretty great.

Re-reading an old favorite, William Shakespeare's Tragedy of the Sith's Revenge by Ian Doescher. If you haven't discovered the genius of William Shakespeare's Star Wars, get your hands on a copy and start reading! (I suggest reading them in movie release order--A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith.) They are both clever and hilarious.

"The Weight of Living, Part I" by Bastille. (This song title has always confused me, since "The Weight of Living, Part II" comes earlier on the album. )
