Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!

Ugh. I used to get chiggers during the summer when I lived in Virginia. I think the only places they ever bite are severely uncomfortable places! -
A praying mantis once jumped onto my face very unexpectedly. And because I know you're all thinking it, no, I did not scream and swat it off. My mom was present and I asked her to coax it to walk onto her hand instead. I frequently pick up small snakes when I see them in the wild, once I've gotten a good look at them to make sure they're not one of the venomous kinds. I once caught a small snapping turtle on a fishing pole by accident. Getting him off the hook was interesting; he didn't want to unclamp his jaws. If I see a turtle crossing the road, I will almost always pull over and rescue it. I did this once with a VERY LARGE snapping turtle and managed not to lose any fingers.

Bargain books are the best! -
You know what, I like that idea. As long as we maintain some flexibility with timing and don't hold a monopoly on "We're the only ones allowed to meme about Portland" I think it could work very well. It took me quite a while to read through just 2 pages of the thread earlier this weekend, so we might have to vary or decrease the pace or just post whenever we can so that this doesn't completely take over our lives. (My next semester as a full-time college student with a part-time job starts in a week, so that will be interesting...) Random side note: this is my 1400th post!

I kind of had the idea that the memes would be the commentary, sort of like in Twi's thread. They won't make sense if you don't read any of the What Happened in Portland thread, though, so that's why I mentioned which posts or plot points the memes related to. But that's not to say that every post in the thread is required to contain a meme; I think people's reactions to the reaction memes will probably be just as entertaining as the memes themselves. Oh man. Now all I can think of is that fast-talking commentator who did all the recaps at the beginning of episodes in Legend of Korra. XD

The thread has been created!

Inspired by @TwiLyghtSansSparkles's wildly popular thread Memefying Books, I present... Memefying What Happened in Portland! Same premise as Twi's thread, but for the Reckoners RPG. I know many Sharders (myself among them) are a little wary of diving into this subforum because of how MUCH there is to read in here, so I'm hoping this thread will get more people interested in the amazing storytelling going on in here. To get the ball rolling, I have made a few memes from the first page of posts in the Portland thread. Enforcement officers outside Fortuity's penthouse in the OP: CorpseMaker at the end of The Only Joe's 2nd post: Nathan after spending a few hours with Doctor Funtimes:

Lol. Just give me a few minutes to put together a second meme for the OP.
-
@Chaos Ok, will do.
-
@Doctor12 I've checked all the subforums I think the topic might fit in and haven't found one, so I don't think anyone's actually created a thread yet.
-
@Delightful @Doctor12 Do you guys still want to make a thread for Reckoners RPG reaction memes? And which subforum should we put it in?

Oh boy this sounds like fun! Donald Trump's ginger cousin and his genetically modified cat concierge perform an intimidating dance number in an attempt to scare voters into electing Donald to the presidency. Someone who's never watched Stargate Atlantis, explain this picture.

I think the 7th-9th should work for me.

@Pestis the Spider I haven't ever seen a Ferruginous in person either; I was just taking a guess based on the pictures in my field guide to North American birds. It's really difficult to get an accurate ID when the photo only shows the bird's head. Keeps you from telling its relative size or seeing other helpful markings. I looked up Buteo buteo and apparently it isn't found in North America, but we have several other Buteo hawks over here, the Red-tailed Hawk (Buteo jamaicensis) being by far the most common. We have some from the Accipiter genus too. As you can probably tell, I also love birds of prey. I looked up the Lanner falcon and I can see how you could confuse it for a peregrine, but as you stated I find it rather baffling that people can see a falcon and not know that it is a falcon. Falcons all have that dark "mustache" marking on their faces to reduce glare from the sun when they're hunting. I think it makes them look like they're wearing war paint--in other words, totally badchull! In other news, I was rather miffed at the public library today... They had all the fiction books by different authors with the same last name jumbled together on the shelf. May God have mercy on the soul of anyone looking for a book by someone named Smith!

Uh... lolwut? I searched "Depeche Mode" (a musical group) in the Author/Name field in my library catalog, and all 14 results were the same exact listing of the book The Hobbit. Oh. Basically the only thing I know about this topic is that the pressure required to cut something with a blade is directly proportional to the width of the blade. I.e. thinner blade = less pressure for cutting = sharper blade. One of my science teachers demonstrated this concept by attempting to slice an apple with a wooden ruler. It was pretty amusing.

@Pestis the Spider As a bird enthusiast, this bugs me too. I don't know with certainty specifically what kind of hawk that is, but it's definitely a hawk and not a falcon. (It looks like possibly a Ferruginous Hawk, a type that can be found in the western USA.) Similarly, I get irritated when my grandma says she saw a Blue Jay. We live in Utah, where there are no Blue Jays because they live in the eastern USA. Out here we have Western Scrub Jays.

Well IIRC Brandon is having a release party for Alcatraz 5 at the King's English in Salt Lake on the 6th, so we probably don't want to schedule a meeting that night. SLCC is Sept 1-3, so I, at least, won't be available those days.
