  1. Finished Ghostly Echoes. Just as excellent as the previous Jackaby books! I've now started Lincoln's Wizard by Tracy Hickman and Dan Willis, which I have been putting off for far too long. I'm only on page 27 but I'm already finding it highly entertaining.
  2. A man who is trying to mimic the 11th Doctor's fashion sense (but failing because he works in a restaurant and must wear an apron) tries to hold down his lunch as he goes to ask his boss for a raise and Daniel Radcliffe, disguised as a hotel bellhop, eggs him on. If you haven't watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer, explain this picture:
  3. @Darkness Ascendant Is that Australian for "you're a little bit crazy"? Because yes, I am a bit crazy.
  4. Last night I had a super weird dream. I imagined that my grandpa (whom I live with) had brought home this ginormous land crustacean like you would bring home a stray kitten. The thing was like the size of a lion, but lower to the ground like a crocodile. It had sort of a lobster-esque tail, but I don't recall much else about its appearance. It acted really friendly and eager for our attention, though, like a dog, even using a lot of the same body language as a happy dog. I kept trying to think of what kind of creature to call it, and it reminded me a lot of a chull, but even my dream self knew its appearance didn't match the chull drawings in the Stormlight books. Later my grandpa and I went over to a friend's apartment for a visit, only to find a grizzly bear in their living room. I think this is a result of me reading this article about cassowaries breaking into people's houses in Australia.
  5. I just saw The Peanuts Movie last night for the first time. Utterly adorable.
  6. Any games planned for tonight?
  7. @Morzathoth You know my vote is always for the Dresden Files. Also I've dived into Ghostly Echoes, the third book in William Ritter's Jackaby series. 27% in and loving it just as much as the first two.
  8. @Delightful That's horrendous! I can't believe anyone would make such a callous, insensitive joke about the Holocaust.
  9. (From page 2) Flashpoint channels his inner whiny toddler:
  10. I lived in Virginia for fifteen years and I'm pretty sure I never saw a tornado (it's not exactly something I'd be likely to forget), though I do remember being out and about when a tornado warning was announced on the radio. I only lived in Ohio full-time for about eighteen months and have no memory of tornadoes there either. Now I'm living in Utah and have been for a little over three years with similar lack of tornadoes. So yeah, seeing one would be a novelty for me too, @AliasSheep.
  11. "Ghost cat" is not an expression that is easy to paraphrase alliteratively.

      Phantasmal feline

That's almost exactly what I ended up using--"feline phantom." Great minds think alike, eh? :P

  12. When I had long hair, I used to run my hand under it and lift it out of the hood once I'd put it on. (Speaking of a hooded sweatshirt here, where I left the hood down.) In other news, I found this hilarious but slightly creepy picture while Googling for rage characters:
  13. Have any of the birds of prey at the place where you volunteer ever bitten or clawed you? Do you have a favorite kind of raptor?
  14. I have a feeling it won't be long before I'm in here with similar school-related woes... *hugs Arraenae and Elsecaller*
  15. I just suggested a name for a fictional seafood restaurant: Carp-e Diem. XD
  16. I thought it was excellent, Delightful. I liked seeing the "brain weasels" as tangible enemies that could be defeated with cleverness and discipline.
  17. What @Delightful said! I'd love to see photos of your cosplay, @theuntaintedchild!
  18. When I'm listening to a Dream Theater playlist on YouTube and YouTube decides that putting an unskippable ad full of loud, obnoxious, indecipherable rap "music" at the beginning of the next video is something I'll enjoy. People who drive smack down the center of a two-way aisle in the parking lot. Other people need to get past too, slontze.
  19. This too. I'm all for treating animals humanely and trying not to kill them unnecessarily, but I'd do it in a heartbeat if the alternative was letting the toddler die.
  20. Ok. So I read this article about cassowaries breaking into people's houses and am now wondering if you've had any close encounters with these birds.
  21. When you read a book about intelligent prehistoric cats that share an internal "song" and you spend the whole book thinking of them as Listeners.
  22. I am weirdly obsessed with music written in unusual time signatures. "The Rocky Road to Dublin" is mostly in 3/4 time, with a 4/4 measure thrown in about once per verse. "I Am The Doctor" uses several different time signatures, including 7/4, 4/4, 3/4, and 7/8. "Dulaman"... 90% of the time you can't even count this one in quarter notes. It's constantly changing time: 5/8, 7/8, 6/8, and it's very fast. "Panic Attack" by Dream Theater switches between 4/4, 5/8, 12/8, and 3/4 multiple times, and different sections of 12/8 in different parts of the song aren't even always at the same tempo. "Dirty Second Hands" by Switchfoot... I don't even know what time signature this one is in most of the time. Whenever any of these songs comes on my MP3 player, I kinda just want to stop what I'm doing and drum along with it. And then play the song again.
