  1. "Turning Away" as performed by the band Celtic Thunder.
  2. I clicked this link expecting to be taken to a page about the alien race from the TV show Stargate: SG-1. Edit: Derp. This is the compliment thread and I didn't compliment anybody. Darkness Ascendant: You know A LOT about comic books. If Quiver ever leaves the forums, we'll still have an expert provided you're still around. Delightful: I already knew you had a great sense of humor, but it became all the more obvious during your recent name-sharing shenanigans with WayneSpren. I love that you are always ready to be silly and have fun.
  3. IMO the people who are bashing the kid for being stupid or his parents for being inattentive fail to grasp two things: 1) Little kids do stupid things sometimes because they haven't had time to learn all the "common sense" rules of behavior that we adults now know. It's a fact of life; get used to it. 2) It is literally impossible to watch children every second of the day. Case in point:
  4. I HAVE THE BEST NEWS. Some of you may recall that I mentioned getting in a car collision toward the end of July. Long story short: it was not my fault, nobody got hurt, the other driver was very nice, nobody got a ticket, but my passenger door had a nice dent in it afterward. (Still driveable, though.) Over the past 5 or 6 weeks I've been talking to my auto insurance as well as the other driver's insurance and attempting to work toward getting my car repaired. My insurance was very helpful: they sent me to an auto shop to get an estimate of the repair costs and gave me a $1000 check to pay for part of the repairs. The auto shop estimated that repairs would cost about $1500, and with my insurance plan I have a $500 deductible--which is a lot better than $1500, but still not something I can afford to pay out of pocket. So I've been talking to the other driver's insurance trying to get them to pay the rest of the repair cost since it was their customer who caused the accident. And they were SO UNHELPFUL. I called them the first time like maybe a week after the accident and spent ~30 minutes on the phone giving them all my insurance info, driver's license, address, phone number, etc., and recounting the events of the accident. Two weeks go by and I don't hear a peep from them, so I call them again...only for them to claim that they've attempted to contact me "several times." In the time since I called them, I'd had only TWO missed calls, neither of which was a number I recognized and neither of which left a voicemail. So I'm sitting here thinking, How in Calamity am I supposed to know if you're trying to contact me if you 1) Call during my work day, when I'm in an office with zero cell reception 2) Don't call from the number I have for you in my contacts and 3) Refuse to leave a voicemail? And then they made me recount the events of the collision again, only to insist that "we haven't accepted liability for the accident" and claim they'd been unable to contact the other driver. So I called the police officer who was at the scene of the accident to see if he could send the insurance the police report with his vouching that their customer was at fault for the accident, and he said there was no police report since I--being a nice but evidently naive person--elected not to insist that he give the other driver a ticket. (She was very polite, friendly, compassionate, patient, and helpful in the aftermath of the collision, and I didn't want to ruin her day with an expensive ticket.) So at that point I was about to ready to say, "Storm it, my car doesn't need to be repaired since the dent doesn't keep me from driving it!" since it was looking like the other insurance would never cough up the money for repairs. BUT. I told my dad about my difficulties (he co-signed on the loan for my car, so he's an owner of it too) and he called the insurance and the other driver and got her to talk to them. She told them honestly what happened and owned up to causing the collision and finally they agreed to pay up for my repairs. *sigh of relief* Thank Harmony that the person who happened to hit my car has some integrity.
  5. When I think of Australia, a few things come to mind: EVERYTHING IN AUSTRALIA WANTS TO KILL YOU. (Related) Tim Tams. Steve Irwin. (RIP. ) "I know some Sharders who live there!" Southern Hemisphere = seasons backward from what I'm used to. Is there one stereotype about Australians that particularly drives you nuts?
  6. This thread is going to be really hilarious in retrospect once WayneSpren changes his name and picture back.
  7. That does sound interesting! (I'm an English language major, so languages in general interest me more than they do most people. Or maybe I decided to major in English language because I find languages interesting. *shrug* ) I'm having a hard time finding it on GoodReads or Amazon. Can you tell me the author's name? In other news, I'm about 2/3 the way through a book called "Ella Minnow Pea: A Progressively Lipogrammatic Epistolary Fable" by Mark Dunn. It's pretty funny. Here's the blurb from GoodReads:
  8. Only two for tonight, but I'm very pleased with the second one. Scorch afraid of another Epic gaining Altermind's favor: Finding out about the explosion:
  9. This may be a dumb question, but what country do you currently live in? I was under the impression that it was Australia, but after you mentioned that you'd visited all those cool places in Israel I began to doubt that assumption.
  10. Woo, went up another rank and just became an Originator. I've almost reached a 1:2 upvote-to-post ratio.
  11. I realized that this thread has been disappointingly lacking in Joseph Ducreux memes, so I took it upon myself to make some. See if you can figure out what the original quotes were. (Spoilered for size.)
  12. @Eccentric Hero If they're alcoholic drinks, I guarantee it.
  13. @Jondesu Was that the Marvel's Most Wanted that was mentioned above?
  14. Apologies for the longer-than-expected hiatus, everyone! Sunbird here with another review--this time it's a paranormal romance. But it's not your usual PNR because there are no werewolves, shapeshifters, or vampires. And without further ado, I present... Die For Me by Amy Plum! Die For Me is the first in a trilogy. The other two books are Until I Die and If I Should Die and are already published.
  15. My chemistry teacher threw a handful of sodium chloride at me today. THAT'S A SALT!
  16. It reminded me of an extra in some of the Lego video games called Super Slap. Most of the female characters will slap enemies if you get close enough for hand-to-hand combat, and most of the time you have to hit them a couple of times before they die. But with Super Slap turned on, you slap them once and they explode into Lego pieces immediately. XD
  17. I've heard of it and seen plenty of rave reviews... Haven't gotten around to reading it myself yet, but I will. Someday. Edit: just realized the unintentional pun I made.
  18. Well, that, and birds have fragile bones. I see your Yoda meme and raise you this Yoda meme:
  19. My heart broke during the season finale. It was a masterful ending, but I cried so hard.
  20. I still think of her as Skye in my head most of the time.
  21. Infatuated young lady makes calf eyes and suggestive eyebrows at her crush (behind the camera) as she displays her proudest achievement: a prize-winning cow at the state fair. If you haven't watched the movie Stardust, explain this picture:
  22. The Spider-Man who is now part of the MCU (played by Tom Holland) is around 15 or 16, I believe--about the same age as he was when he was bitten in the comics. Personally I loved seeing a teenage Spidey on the big screen during Civil War. I think Tom Holland's performance really captured the combination of nervousness and snark that Peter Parker had in the old comics when he was still new to the superhero gig.
  23. Storm it, WayneSpren! I just figured out that you changed your display name to Delightful.
  24. I'm like 95% sure that someone (possibly WayneSpren) already used that picture for a meme in the "Memefying What Happened in Portland" thread.
  25. @Kaymyth You look FABULOUS, but unfortunately I'm all out of upvotes for today. Remind me to give you one tomorrow!
