I'm jealous that you apparently have the ability to improvise while cooking and get a delicious result. I always need a recipe the first time I cook/bake something. My mom, though--when I was younger, she once made up a soup recipe to try to get us kids to eat healthier, and now it's one of my favorite things. It's basically chicken broth with chunks of chicken, macaroni noodles, kidney and pinto beans, and some spices.

I love this series!! I'm curious, though--how were Bartimaeus's semi-relevant asides handled? In the print books, they were footnotes at the bottom of the page, but I have no idea how that would work in an audiobook. Re: Malazan, the first book (Gardens of the Moon) is Tor's free ebook of the month for September if you're signed up for their newsletter and live in the USA. (Might also be available in Canada; I'm not sure.)

Re: allergies, I thankfully have no allergies to food or medication (at least not that I know of). I am allergic to some sort of pollen or grass or something outdoorsy, but it stays pretty much under control as long as I take my meds. I also used to get a runny nose and itchy, watery eyes if I cuddled a cat too closely and got the hair on my face or in my nose, but thankfully I seem to have gotten over that. My dad, though, is allergic to a common antibiotic (amoxicillin, I think, however you spell it). One time the doctor prescribed it for him even though the allergy was listed in my dad's medical records, and my dad was soooooo angry when he got to the pharmacy and found out. That was the last time he ever saw that doctor. -
The Good News Thread: I'm So Excited! And I Just Can't Hide It!

I got my first cell phone (a dumbphone) my sophomore year of high school, so I guess that means I was 15. (For a year or two prior to that, I'd been sharing a Nokia tracphone with my younger brother.) I still have the same phone six years later, although I now also have a smartphone that has no SIM card and can therefore only do Internet, Google maps, etc., when I can connect to Wi-Fi. -
Yeesh, my schedule for next week just keeps filling up! I might have something going on Thursday (the 8th), so now it's looking like the 7th might actually be my most convenient day.

You know you're a Sanderfan when @PantsForSquares's post makes you think of Alcatraz's assertion that Brandon's massive fantasy novels are only good for hitting oneself in the head. -
You Know You're Addicted To 17th Shard When...
Sunbird replied to Silverblade5's topic in General Discussion
When you got only 6 hours of sleep last night and spent all day at Salt Lake Comic Con and it's almost a half hour past midnight and you still need to take a shower before bed, but you still spend a significant amount of time checking the Shard. XD -
Oh. I just realized the 9th actually won't work for me since I'm planning to go to Dan Wells's screening of the "I am not a serial killer" movie in Salt Lake that evening. So I guess the 8th would probably be most convenient for me, although I could still do the 7th.

When you find out about the amazing eyes of a mantis shrimp and your reaction is, "Whoa. Mantis shrimps are born with the Fifth Heightening!" -
LOL, yeah. Water + electronics = bad idea. I'll go examine my toaster when I have the chance to see if it has a tray like yours.
-
@Orlion Determined How would you advise cleaning it? I don't want to disassemble it, but I'm not sure how else to access the inside of the bread slots.

I got a high five from one of my professors today for correctly guessing Firefly as the "greatest sci-fi ever." He had been talking about how these days, English is the dominant international language and mentioned the possibility of Chinese competing with English for that distinction, and that was clue enough for me to know he meant Firefly.

It likes riddles, praps it does, does it?
Sunbird replied to Assassin in Burgundy's topic in General Discussion
The Moon, naturally. My riddle is probably one most people have heard/read before, but I'm just proud of myself for being able to type it out (or at least a close-enough version of it) from memory. First think of a person who lives in disguise, Deals in secrets and speaks naught but lies. Then tell me what is the last thing to mend, The middle of middle and the end of end. Next think of a sound that often is heard During the search for a hard-to-find word. Now string them together and answer me this: What creature would you be unwilling to kiss?- 168 replies

Coworkers at a cocktail party have all gotten drunk and are now dancing the Macarena, but none of them have any idea what the lyrics are, so they're all mumbling utter nonsense. Explain this picture if you haven't seen Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Just found this gem in my textbook: "In a literal sense, astronomy is a universal subject." XD Also I want this to be a real headline:

Very true. The actors who play the Salvatore brothers on the Vampire Diaries are in their thirties, and their characters are supposed to be like 18 or 19. (Well, if you don't count the centuries they've lived as vampires without aging...)

Oh man, that book is soooo hilarious! I added so many quotes to GoodReads after I finished it. My biggest disappointment, however, was that the T-rex and the Sarlacc pit featured on the cover were nowhere to be found in the book.

@bleeder Don't believe the "everyone except movie stars is ugly at 14" stereotype. I actually think your appearance would be a good fit for Simon Lewis from Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments books. In fact, just as good a fit as the actor that actually plays Simon in the TV adaptation.

@Morzathoth Oh yeah, good idea. I've had my eye on a Bridge 4 necklace for a while.
