  1. That... is genius!
  2. Oh I know that Kandra come from Mistwraiths but I never realized that Kandra could produce Mistwraiths. Neato. Thanks for the info.
  3. Whoa! Kandra produce new Mistwraiths? I always thought it was Mistwraiths that produced new Mistwraiths. Mind = exploded.
  4. Is Patxi's Eye a Perpendicularity? The earlier WoB has Brandon not saying it is one. That, to me, is the big difference between the Well (a Shardpool) and the Eye. This. We distinguish between "major" and "minor" Shardworlds.
  5. This is the question asked: And this is the answer Brandon gave: While I understand that Brandon, out of necessity, gives quick replies note that he does not say it is a Perpendicularity; he simply calls it a "natural manifestation of magic" which I would interpret as a naturally occurring pool of Investiture. It is not linked to a Shard and it is not a Perpendicularity. I would, therefore, assert that what we see on First of the Sun is most definitely not a Shardpool and is not the same as the Well or the pool in Elantris. And while we, as fans, can assign any meaning to any non-canon term we want I would think that we would also try and enforce at least some semblance of rational meaning. If any pool of Investiture is a "Shardpool" then how do we differentiate the naturally occurring ones (e.g. First of the Sun) from the pools that are actually occupied by a Shard/Shard's power/whatever-we-refer-to-Shard-stuff-as (e.g. Well of Ascension, Pits of Hathsin, etc.)?
  6. Fantastic! Is it possible he will complete the annotations or has he stopped writing those altogether to make time for more book writing?
  7. I really like this idea. So far, Taravangian and, by extension, we have been assuming that the Diagram is the result of a day when he was super intelligent. We do not, however, see any signs of complete lack of empathy/ misunderstanding of how people react to manipulation. What if, instead of it being a day when he was super intelligent it was, instead, a day when he was super compassionate and, therefore, was very close to the Spiritual Realm! That would mean Taravangian's tests, which help his attendants decide when he can make decisions based on the Diagram, are actually backwards! I am not sure how possible this idea is but I think it fits neatly with how Sanderson likes to have little surprises that completely change how we view a situation.
  8. I have always wondered if that letter never made it to his parents. While I can see Kal's father being too upset to write back to him I find it very strange that his mother never wrote. Or, perhaps, the return letter never made it to him? Either way, I would be very surprised if Kaladin's parents had simply just started ignoring their only remaining child.
  9. Or, perhaps, Harmony meddled a bit in the case of young Wax seeing multiple parts of the bullet casing?
  10. @Argel : Do you have a source for the "mixed Investiture is black" quote? I am struggling to find it. That I could find a source for so there goes that theory. Mayyyybbbeee the sphere is to be used after Odium kills Cultivation? Yeah, that is a huge stretch, I know.
  11. Green Hoodie and I agree on how this line is interpreted. Harkaylain is reliable in all other things he has predicted so if he is now predicting a highstorm then he is, most likely, still reliable. I think this is an example of what some people refer to as "humor". The joke is that Lift does not have an education and has trouble counting. She only has ten (10) fingers so she cannot express her thirteen (13) years of age anymore. She also refers to any age higher than the number of fingers as "unlucky" so she is deliberately choosing to maintain the fiction that she is ten (10).
  12. I have seen recently that black is the color of mixed Investiture. What if both Honor and Cultivation are, at this point, shattered and this sphere is similar to the Ire's device except it holds Connection to both Honor and Cultivation; hence, it is black colored as it could be mixed Investiture. Perhaps the goal of that Black Sphere is to help someone Ascend to be the holder of those two Shards? Though, it does beg the question of how Gavilar, or the secret society/ societies he was part of, planned on putting two shattered Shards back together so they could use it. Maybe they just wanted to have it on hand for if/when they accomplished the task?
  13. This... is kind of off. The Words of Founding contained a ton of information about agriculture, engineering, astronomy, medicine etc. So, the Northern Scadrians had the advantage of tons of scientific information but they had to start from scratch because the Catacendre destroyed, like, everything. Luckily, they did have the materials gathered in the storage caverns so they had a bit of a head start and the Elendel Basin is the most fertile location I've ever heard of. The Southern Scadrians were confined to the Southern hemisphere without the support of Metalborn. We are not sure how the Lord Ruler confined them but I imagine he took steps to prevent them from becoming technologically advanced because he would not want to deal with an invasion from his own back-up people. From there, the Catacendre was probably a very rough event for the Southern Scadrians. Add to that what we see at the end of Bands of Mourning in the coppermind memory (the Southern Scadrian peoples on the literal brink of extinction) and it is easy to see why the Southern Scadrians are not visting Northen Scadrial in the U.S.S. Enterprise (United Southern Scadrial). So, I think it is mentioned that the Sovereign arrived in Southern Scadrial 30 years after the Catacendre which means that the Southern Scadrians went from the brink of extinction where they had burned all of their things to airships and stuff in ~280 years. Not too shabby, eh?
  14. I don't think that is supported by the evidence we have. I think it is one possible explanation, and one that I agree with, but other theories exist that fit the given evidence. E.g. There is a WoB saying that Adonalsium could have Shattered into different Intents and some people theorize this means that if different Vessels had been present then different Intents would have formed. Other people have speculated that the Intents were created as reflections of the original Sixteen and were not actually part of Adonalsium originally. Basically, I, personally, agree with what you are saying but I think it is important to highlight when we are guessing and when we have solid facts.
  15. Hi @kvn, welcome. May I offer a word of caution? Be very careful when reading on this site as there are tons of spoilers for the books you have not read. The Mistborn Subforum is probably the only forum you want to be reading in the "Cosmere" section or else you might end up getting great moments ruined for you. Good luck and welcome!
  16. As a few people have alluded, you can email Brandon (or, more precisely, his assistant Adam) and get sent two word documents: Aether of Night and White Sands. These are the rough draft versions of novels Brandon wrote before becoming published. You might recognize the second name as that rough draft is what became the graphic novel White Sands. Both of them are quite good but you can definitely tell Brandon has gotten better over time. If you head over to this link: http://brandonsanderson.com/contact/ and put in the body of the message that you would like to get a copy of Aether of Night and White Sands then, usually within a few days, Adam will email you the documents. As for any Cosmere works you are missing, it sounds like almost all of the short stories have passed you by. Arcanum Unbounded will have all of the short stories in one place with new stories and new information. November will be a big month for you! Lastly, the Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss is a must read. Name of the Wind is the first volume (there are currently only two out) and I highly, highly recommend it.
  17. Also, without Mistwraiths and spikes, how would the Aimians, if they are kandra, reproduce?
  18. Is there a WoB on this? I had a thread awhile back discussing Adonalsium, the Shattering etc. and I could not find anything definitely saying that Adonalsium was governed by the Intents - many people on this site seem to be of the opinion that the Intents were created at the time of the Shattering. Also, @Sam Script here is some info that helped me answer a similar question: Shards affect you over time but your mind will not leave a permanent effect on the Shard. A holder's personality, however, does get to filter the Shard's intent, so to speak. However, if that holder no longer held that Shard, the Shard will not continue to be filtered by that person. Unfortunately I do not have the direct WoB of where I got this from. I keep a google doc of all the questions I would like to ask Sanderson and, if I find a WoB that answers it, I mark it as answered and put down the answer. I really should start adding a link to the WoB.
  19. Depending on what happened to Adonalsium (1 became paralyzed due to Intents, 2 became overfocused in one direction due to Intents, 3 something else) I think many people would view Adonalsium as "useless". If Adonalsium truly created the entire Cosmere (a dwarf galaxy), then seeing Adonalsium reduced to the state where it could no longer directly interact with the Cosmere but, instead, could only use agents (humans, dragons, whatever) would definitely seem like Adonalsium was "broken" or "dead". This was a god that created entire solar systems! And now, the best it could do is send the Yolen equivalent of Wax to handle things? If that is the case then I could definitely see people thinking that something needed to change.
  20. Also, I think, if the shrapnel was distributed over the body, each piece might feel, to the Allomancer, as a distinct source of Allomancy. Which means, once the trick is known, an Allomancer would only burn the "safe" source(s) that they have ingested and would ignore the "false" sources. I wonder if this is possible or if an Allomancer would simply feel all pewter, regardless of location and purity, as one "source".
  21. I am with @Argel on this one. Simply a disguise imo. Kelsier attacked Hoid. Hoid defended himself and did what he needed to do to get out of the Well. Also, as @Yata mentioned, Hoid could have done serious harm to Kelsier but did not. The role of Wit gives Hoid unparalleled access to the most powerful people in Alethkar and also gives him complete freedom of movement. It is a great job to have if you need to keep an eye on what is happening on Roshar but you also need the ability to disappear at times. It was a good idea Figberts but I think the more obvious answers are, in this case, the right ones.
  22. Um, I think that might be someone writing strange info in the Coppermind again. I believe the definition of a Shardpool is definitely that it is connected to a Shard - it is a concentrated, physical manifestation of the Shard's Investiture in liquid form. A perpendicularity, on the other hand, does not, as far as I know, have to be a Shardpool nor connected to a Shard; though Shardpools are perpendicularities (a square is a rectangle but a rectangle is not a square kind of thing - with the Shardpool being the square in this analogy haha). A perpendicularity is, again according to my knowledge, simply a large concentration of Investiture that eases access to the Cognitive Realm (and possibly does other stuff too?).
  23. The answer can be found in this earlier thread from 2014: I found this thread by googling the question "who is on the way of kings cover art" tl;dr It is Dalinar in the foreground and Eshonai in the background.
  24. Whoa! You started someone on Words of Radiance? Had he already read Way of Kings or did he just dive in to book 2??
