  1. Hope you enjoy reading through the rest of the thread (IMO - there are a few long threads that are still worth reading all of the pages - if you find the topic interesting) - such as Stormlight Translation (16 very interesting pages). I do too - especially with the Annotations. Sorry - not sure if you hit the part of this thread where this gets dicussed yet. If not, you will. She does not get much discussion - sounds like time for a Tindwyl thread in Mistborn (use the Support tag to help lay out all of the reasons you like her) Concur. I also find that "limitations" that disappear just because of a climax are awkward. I think this had more to do with providing direct evidence as to how and why Healing works (Miles makes it a bit awkward, while the Lopen/Rysn scenes add context) And more than a bit annoying May I ask which version? For me, the Omnibus elevated it from "meh" to one of my favorites. Thanks for the post.
  2. Welcome to the Shard. Please consider an Intro Post to let us know what you have or have-not read, so we can avoid spoilers if necessary. Also, please consider checking out the Sharder FAQ for some useful tips and tricks - as each forum is slightly different. Also, I have reported your post for you, since this is the wrong Forum. All book discussion belongs in the appropriate section (Blue Header Bars on the main forum page): "Cosmere" for those works, "Non-Cosmere" for everything else, "Spoiler Zone" for Preview material and new releases in their Spoiler Period, and "Related works" for Unpublished material and non-books (blogs, podcast, youtube released, etc.). Each forum also has a synopsis on the main page to help determine where you should be mosting a given topic. For example, you posted in: When this thread belongs in: Most aspects of F-Duralumin are RAFO, because he intends to include this in Mistborn Era 3. However, there have been WoBs about Sprend Bonds and Connection (not necessarily F-Duralumin based - but similar mechanics) that indicate that the Spren, being Sapiant, has Volition and you could not take (or keep) that kind of Connection unless they agreed (The Spren could just break the Connection from their end). WoBs: Hope that helps
  3. Tales of Annwn by Shawn Speakman (Book 1 - The Dark Thorn) Urban Fantasy - Alternate Earth It's pretty good - and doesn't quite reach great because of a plot hole that really bothers me. It's good enough I have finished the first book and moved into the novella and short stories in the Twilight Dragon anthology.
  4. Welcome to the Shard. Please consider an Intro Post to let us know what you have or have-not read (whichever list is shorter) so we can avoid spoilers (as necessary). Also, consider checking out the Sharder FAQ for some tips and tricks (as each forum is slightly diffferent). This, I think, is the key part. After all (Sunlit Man and Lost Metal Spoilers): It may be important to note that FM did not actually retain all of the investiture it harvested - the excess is what created the Shroud. Also, I would consider using a word other than "leech," as that can be confused with the Allomantic power, but the Realmatic process does not appear to be similar or connected. Hope that helps
  5. First, please note that "being broken" (trauma) is not necessarily required: Second, I think Shallan is an exception to many things, for many reasons. I would posit that nothing (or almost nothing) about Shallan's journey can be extrapolated to other Lightweavers. That said, I do not think the progression of Lightweaver truths is significantly different from other orders - because, when you think about it, all Oaths (seen so far) are a form of self-actualization and personal epiphany. The other order's Oaths are just more regimented in what steps are needed. For example, Kaladin's third Oath (I will protect even those I hate, so long as it is right) is really just "I'm prejudiced, and I need to stop that" in different words. It's an acknowledgement of personal truth and overcoming a personal bias that affected his ability to "protect." Likewise, Szeth's third oath (I swear to follow the will of Dalinar Kholin. This is my oath) more explicitly showed this connection in text when he said (Ch 119): FWIW. Hope that helps.
  6. This is a popular fan theory, but Brandon has RAFOed all WoBs on Identity until he deals with it in the books.
  7. I didn't forget that Gavilar discovered Tanalan's survival before sending the Blackthorn to the borders of Herdaz, then Jah Keved (all of which was before returning to the Rift). I said what I meant, I believe his response was vehement enough that he would not have "plotted" with the "traitor" against his own brother in this instance - especially one in open rebellion that would remove Gavilar's number one military tool (no matter how unstable he had become without a war to fight). SA5 may prove differently (I am avoiding spoilers) but it seems very unlikely without explicit proof otherwise. Occam's razor Law of Parsimony* and all that jazz. . .
  8. From the Radiant Order Synopses: From the SayTheWords WoB: Hope that helps
  9. Please edit and mark your post as spoilers. Also, all SA5 material should only be posted to the Appropriate Spoiler Forum. Finally, the Q&A is far questions about known canon, not meant for theorycrafting, which belongs in a discussion forum (prefrably using Appropriate Support/Discuss tags. If you need more information, or tips on how to edit posts, please see the Sharder FAQ. Yes, Seons and Skaze are splinters of Devotion and Dominion, respectively. WoB: Hope that helps
  10. I'm not sure why you quoted the same post twice, but you should be able to fix that in Edit. I'd agree to amending the first statement to "There's no current evidence supporting a traitor working with Tanalan" Though I had not heard that theory before, i find it rather doubtful - based on how upset Gavilar was to hear Tanalan was allowed to live. Now, I might believe it was Sadeas trying to remove the Blackthorn on his own (or with Tanalan), but I still think it was more likely a gambit by Tanalan to drive a wedge between Kholin and Sadeas. Afterall, Torol was part of the attack that killed his father. . .
  11. Here is the text, but ROdium does not say this is because of Oaths (keeping or breaking) but because of how the Everstorm changed his Connection (?) to Roshar. RoW Ch 112:
  12. Welcome to the Shard. Please consider an Intro Post to let us know what you have or have-not read, so we can avoid spoilers if necessary. Also, please consider checking out the Sharder FAQ for some useful tips and tricks - as each forum is slightly different. If I were to wildly speculate though, the Hemalurgic Linchpin for the Inquisitors was a steel spike (A spike made of steel, but also the spike that steals physical allomantic powers) located in the upper back / lower neck, so could it be possible that that was where Zane had his spike? Zane's Spike was not in his back - it was above the Sternum, and it was so long that the point stuck out of his back (like Inquisitor Spikes sticking out of the back of their head). WoA Ch 46:
  13. This is not entirely correct. Shards can break Oaths, but doing so makes them vulnerable which is why the Visions implied Odium would not break his Oath - because he very much does not want to be vulnerable to anthing or anyone. Hope that helps
  14. Welcome to the Shard. Please consider an Intro Post to let us know what you have or have-not read, so we can avoid spoilers if necessary. Also, please consider checking out the Sharder FAQ for some useful tips and tricks - as each forum is slightly different. We do not have those answers. Most things about Nicrosil are RAFOed. The only things we know for-sure are: Fabrial (Medallion) Nicrosil stores and taps discrete chunks of Investiture (like a Coppermind and Memories) A Ferring's use of Nicrosil is similar, but not the same, as seen used in Medallions If, instead, you want to theorycraft ideas, then I suggest using Cosmere Discussion as Q&A is a place for discrete questions, not theorycrafting and brainstorming. Hope that helps
  15. I would guess part of the gambit was to try driving a wedge between the Kholins and Sadeas. But Tanalan probably did not realize what color of Snake Torol was (he would always side with the strongest - at least until he was ready to make his own move - which was not until after Gavilar's death).
  16. I don't know if you have also read TWoK Prime or not, but if you have, I mentioned in this thread (spoilers until you are done) that it seemd the characters we know are hybrids of two different Prime characters: Which kinda goes with what you are saying here. Thank you for the observations.
  17. Better at what? Jokes? Impersonations? Inspiring homocidal daydreams? Wayne & The Lopen WoBs The Difference WoB:
  18. There was no traitor working with Tanalan - at least not a specific one in that instance. Tanalan set it up as an ambush to kill the Blackthorn: Because Dalinar killed his father Because they would never win a battle with the Blackthorn in charge. There was political rumormongering, as mentioned by Gavilar (Ch 49) - but that was more of a political "lets see how they handle this before we decide which side to back."
  19. Welcome to the Shard. Please consider an Intro Post, includeing what Sanderson books and series you have read (or have not, whichever list is shorter - so we can avoid spoilers should you have questions). Also, please consider reading the Sharder FAQ for some tips and info on how this forum works (as they are all slightly different). As @Dragonheir mentioned - Please do not Necro an old post (respond to something that has been moribund for months or years). Please find forum policy here (excerpted below). Also, this section of the FAQ includes info on referencing an old post to continue/renew discussion by starting a new topic. Necro Policy: Hope that helps
  20. Sounds like a hack to get Smote. Breath and Divine Breath are willful grants of investiture, and Endowmwnt's intent is specifically about "giving" (not taking) so you are likly to corrupt or destroy what you have taken, and end up on Edgli's kill list anyway. I cannot imagine any good from trying to subvert the investiture's underlying Intent in such a manner.
  21. I am avoiding everything SA5 until I have the final book in-hand - so while I have seen those threads I have not read them. Either way, it always seemed important to me that (Mistborn Spoilers):
  22. Not correct. Renarin and Dalinar know (and others may have been told off-screen). RoW Ch 54: That said, it is unlikely that the obfuscation extends to everything about the people near Renarain. Rather, it is more likely that events in which Renarin is participating, and the people with him are obfuscated. Furthermore, other events around those most Connected to Renarin are worse than obfuscated, they are simply more likely to be wrong (even though seen as-if clear). ROdium saw things about Dalinar before the Battle of Thaylenah that led him to be confident of Dalinar's fall (as was Renarin himself) - it was not blacked out like things Renarin is directly involved in - but that is a piece that Taravangian did not know. He expects to the able to trust what is not obfuscated (and needing to plan for what is hidden) so TOdium will likely still have a blind spot in being able to account for how probabilities shift when thought clear, and that is the bigger weakness in my mind.
  23. Good reasoning and some interesting connections. Hope you recognized that storyteller.
  24. Considerations: Few fans use "the" - so the "Ketek" could have been WoK|WoR|O|RoW|KoW If the palindromic convention was abandoned, I'd have rathered he return to the Original Szeth Title: Stones Unhallowed Unfortunately he said it wasn't an option because while it fit for Szeth as book 3, it would not fit for Szeth as book 5 Either way, we still have the center: WoRORoW Even looks a bit glyph-like in that form Wroar
  25. That is the Loophole. The Oathpact was designed that the Heralds would be sent to Braize and the Fused could not return to Roshar while they were there (but if the Heralds did not return to Braize, the Desolation would resume). The Loophole was if the Herald(s) "allowed" the Fused to return to Roshar, then they all would go back to Roshar - hence their use of torture to coerce permission from the Herald(s). "Break" in these terms is giving into the Torture and allowing the return. WoBs: Hope that helps
