  1. As many of us reread the series in preparation for SA5, I thought I would start this thread to catalogue details noticed that fit at least one category: May be new (or at least don't have a thread of their own or are not discussed) Are not neccessarily strong enough to warrant a separate thread Imply fundamental Realmatic Principals That said, my first entry here is a small detail I noticed in WoK Ch 36: Somehow, on previous readings I had failed to notice that Jasnah's hand sank into the flesh, much like Ashravan's Stamp (well, all stamps - but I'm correlating changes to sapiant beings in this example) TES Day 98: So, it seems that either the "sinking" is required to touch the Spiritweb - or - it's a side effect when this process is done through touch (or possibly a forced change rather than a coerced change). What other details have you noticed on recent rereads that you do not often see discussed?
  2. Did you use a yogurt marinade for the lamb? I've found it helps a lot with my Afghan curry (and other dishes).
  3. That is theory, not confirmed. It's almost debunked as a theory because the Fused use the same surges as Radiants (not Voidbinding). Hope that helps.
  4. Perhaps we should ask for this thread to move to Cosmere Discussion? Anyway (Stormlight and Warbreaker Spoilers):
  5. We have that WoB (even if it is not Vin specific): That's because he would not have otherwise been able to access the power - but the bands are all about giving the holder access to the power stored in the bands. Similarly, Wayne cannot sense Wax's Iron Storage, because he has no access to F-Iron. But he could tell if Miles had stored health in Gold, even if he could not access it. That's why (Stormlight Spoilers) Hope that helps
  6. So, just to clarify - Real World leadership books that have similar messages to those espoused by the in-story Way of Kings by Nohodon? If yes, I'd start with Lincoln on Leadership for more general Leadership lessons-learned and John Maxwell's Laws of Leadership for a more modern approach (including mentoring and smaller team leadership, rather than National Leadership concerns).
  7. You may not have noticed my edit regarding your spoilered section above. Since I think you were typing while I fixed my post. Yeah, that's why I added: He also left that out of the Words of Founding for the same reason - a Planet of Paranoid citizens wondering if Harmony is eavesdropping all-the-time would probably be a bad thing (TM). * * * * * None of the "Identity Lock" scenarios seem viable. We see early in the first book that the Metallic Arts can tell when something is Identity locked, and that did not happen in TLM - they felt no power at all. TFE Ch 29: So confirmed that both Allomancy and Feuchemy can see Identity locked power but not access that power. Most Likely they were swapped. I would not be surprised if Sazed did it to avoid a scenario where either North or South used them against the other (even if swapping them causes its own problems/tensions).
  8. This is also not entirely correct. Preservation can hear the thoughts of all Scadrians, because they all have a piece of Preservation. Ruin can insert thoughts into those with cracks in their spirit web - which is mostly Hemalurgic Constructs, but also insanity (Vin's Mother), and non-Hemalurgic Spikes (Sazed, Rashek). M:SH P6C4: Sazed is just nice enough to avoid listening all the time, unless they wear the earring (which is his indication they want him to hear their prayers). What is happening there is related, but not the same. Hope that helps
  9. I have not yet finished your post, but I will do so later when I have a moment. I just wanted to note that this is a false premise. Ruin did not, and could not change a stored memory - Ruin changed memories while they were in transition (being stored or being tapped) but they had to be outside of the person and metalmind to be changed. WoB: Hope that helps
  10. Kelsier is seeing Ruin's Cognitive Manifestation at a time when Ruin is heavily warping Hemalurgy. It is beleive (but not confirmed AFAIK) that the imagery was meant to reinforce the marionette way he was controlling som many Hemalurgic Constructs, and also how Ruin's Intent was so closely tied to Hemalurgic Spikes. While shards do not necessarily create a Manifestation of Invetiture directly, there is a correlation btween the Shards, the World and the People that, when brought together, the Realmaics of teh cosmere result in the Manifestation of Investiture that we see. This imager was Kelier's big clue that Ruin was tied to Spikes (nd he missed it until it Urteau). WoB (Stormlight and other Realmatic spoilers - minor): Hope that helps
  11. Most of TLR's healing was exaggerated. WoB: There is Cosmere healing that can survive beheadings, and Miles in Era shows us that significant cranial damage can be survived with Gold Compounding, but there was also teh element of the Lord Ruler exaggerating the level of damage he can survive as a way of the Ministry teachings helping to prevent those attacks. Also discussed in a few threads, like this one. Dragonsteel Prime Spoilers - WoB: Hope that helps
  12. Have you read Elantris? (Slight Spoilers)
  13. I did not buy anything for Light Day (long story), but I have a friend searching feverishly for the Szeth Pin (or any bundle containing it) - if anybody has any leads. . . Well, it might be a minor spoiler, but you could try the Quiz to see how you match the orders, or just read the short blurbs on the website or the Arcanum. Might be enough to make an informed decision on swag without major spoilers for the series so-far.
  14. I apologize if it seemed your suggestion was without merit - the point I was hoping to make was not that you should not suggest "ask during an AMA/signing/etc." it was so others that may read this know "hey if this interests me, these other people will never get to ask the question, so maybe I can if I get a chance to do so." The Criticlal problem is, of course, this was previously abused - and so is now frowned upon (which feels, from some perspecitves, like another way of saying "have-nots shall not be allowed to get questions answered" - I know in my head that is not the reality, but it feels in my heart like they are saying "hey, if you can't attend because money, life, etc. then - tough luck, you can't have others ask for you") So, the only recourse is to discuss the questions we have, and hope that somebody with access will also find the questions interesting and ask because they also want to know. I'm sorry everybody for the digression </rant>
  15. It's been theorized that, if the Radiants had not known/realized what the consequences were to become (Deadeyes) the Event of the vision at Feverstone Keep might have been an attempt to make sure Humanity had weapons to fight once the Radient Orders disbanded. Not Confirmed.
  16. Oh, there are definitely a lot of lost Shardblades - the question first arose in WoK with this quote (Ch 51): So, based on current data we have at least 4 effects: Radiants that broke their oath during Receance, creating a Deadeye in the CR, but not a blade (First and Second Oath) Radiants that broke their oath during Receance, creating a Deadeye and a blade (and plate), but the Blade was never given a bonding Gem (Third Oath or above) These would remain PR only and are all lost, since all known remaining Blades have bonding gems Radiants that broke their oath during Receance, creating a Deadeye and blade (and plate), but the Blade was lost leaving a Deadeye in the CR (Third Oath or above) Radiants that broke their oath during Receance, creating a Deadeye and blade (and plate), with the Blade currently bonded-by-Gem (Connection) which causes the Deadeye to move toward the current wielder and disappear when summoned (Third Oath or above) When accounting for the disparity of Thousands of Spren "killed" in the Recreance, but only about 100 known Deadeye Blades, you have to consider all four options, with only one option of the four not resulting in a Deadeye wandering Shadesmar. The WoB was specifically about option 3 - lost previously Gem-bonded Blades. Hope that helps.
  17. Short answer - we do not yet have a canon answer. The only non-vessel dragon seen on-screen in canon so far is Xisis in Tress of the Emerald Sea - and that scene did not answer this question. Sorry. Hope that helps.
  18. My apologies. I checked my data for that and do not see an art pack (if there is one) and I have also not yet received the books. So, it's possible that the Keepers are waiting to receive their copies so they can digitize the Glyphs.
  19. I have been avoiding SA5 spoilers, so somebody that is following those may have more data - but my understanding is that these would be release with SA5 in Dec. Hope that helps.
  20. There is no wrong way to read. It is not just you. For example: This Thread - where we made a visual to help understand the Vin/Zane fight at Keep Hasting (and there were still disagreements on how exactly it went down). Yes, Brandon is big on the idea that each reader's own interpretation should be valid for that reader. Yes, that means for some of us, we need to go over material more than once to get the mental image to work for us. Over the years, I have been able to train myself to hold-off most of this (but not all) for the re-read. Focusing on broad story in the first reading, and letting the second and subsequent readings focus on detail (both in action scenes and foreshadowing clues). Not just in Sanderson's work, but in general; as I find the majority of authors I read are similar levels of detail (if not always the same types of details). I've gone so far that I generally use this phenomenon as my personal book metric. I dislike "ratings" so I classify stories I have read on two scales: Reading (Didn't finish; Finished - will not reread; Reread Infrequently(-), Reread occassionally , Reread regularly (+)). Recommend to others? (No,;Yes, conditional; Yes, Unconditional) For me, a huge hallmark of a good story is how often I am willing to reread it to solidify these details in my mind. Stories I love and recommend I reread again even after I have gotten the details in my mind straight. Stories that are okay I'll reread once or twice - just enough to understand these details. Stories I did not care for I won't spend the time rereading to understand the details because I am just not invested in the story enough to care. Very rarely is a story in the first/lowest category, where I do not even finish reading it the first time. Hope that helps
  21. The most commonly held theory I have seen for the disparity is (please recall the structure of the Radiant orders) - Most Radiants during the Recreance would not have been 3rd oath and above. First and Second Oath Radiants would have created a Deadeye without leaving a Shardblade behind. Many threads discuss this and other theories: The Reason for Deadeyes Where are the Missing Shardblades On the missing Shardblades The Shin have the Most Missing Blade and Plate And more I likely didn't find in a quick search. Hope that helps.
  22. There are twelve Aethers - but I don't think we have symbology for those yet. If you wanted to pair, you would use the 10 surges/orders with Honor and Cultivation (maybe at 12 and 6). Another "grouping" might be 8 base metals with Ruin and Preservation at 3 and 9, Harmony at 6 and the Cosmere symbol at 12. Is a 24-hour clock an option? Hope that helps.
  23. And that's part of the problem. There are many here who will never have a chance to ask for a WoB because we aren't on the right internet accounts, cannot stream and/or cannot attend live appearences (Cons or signings) - so our only hope is asking things here on the forums (usually here) and praying that somebody, at some future opportunity, will ask our question (or something similar). Or, in a very distant hope, maybe somebody Dragonsteel will take AMA questions from the forum, but I doubt it. We don't get enough traffic for that kind of interaction or cnosideration.
  24. Cyberpunk Scadrial WoBs: So, possible if he can find the time. Unlikely to be a full trilogy. And that one WoB give a hint: Hope that helps.
  25. Found some descriptions in WoK: Hope that helps
