So, in the last hour my forum (on PC) changed to a weird no-column "everything is huge" display that I think might be the mobile version (even though I am on PC). I tried signing out/in and deleting history/cookies; but it's still stuck looking weird and annoying. Is this an intended change? Is there a button to select which site version we see? Win 10 Pro - 22H2 Browser: Brave (Chomium) - Version 1.45.133 Chromium: 107.0.5304.141 (Official Build) (64-bit) Edit: Is the format controlled by screen width/pixels? I've continued troubleshooting and after inspecting the page and resetting all sizes while changing the size of the browser window - the format changed back to normal.

Perpendicularities, Investiture and Aluminum
Treamayne replied to QafianSage's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Well, when a perpendicularity forms, ir pierces the realms. The Spiritual Realm has neither time nor space, so having aluminum around he physical aspect shouldn't affect that (there is no "around" or "surround" in a realm without space). So, it's possible that the physical aspects (sensed with Heighteneings or Bronze) would be blocked int he Physical Realm; there would probably be no effect to the perpendicularity in the Spiritual Realm. Since the Cognitive Realm is weird, there will probably be inconsistent effects depending on factors such as: Was the investiture put there for the purposes of hiding it? Do other's know about it? If yes, are they aware that it was meant to be hidden? Is the "box" manifested (or partially manifested) in Shadesmar? e.g. Scadrial Shadesmar - where we see the Well of Ascension as a beacon of power that can be seen through the misty Cognitive aspect of the Kredik Shaw cavern; but as we see when Kelsier manifests the sack and other objects, they have a more physical presence in Sadesmar. etc- 5 replies

When you are no longer avoiding spoilers, the best resource will probably be The Coppermind, which has the information in prose-ish wiki form and annotated with references (which book chapter, and links to the Arcanum Q&A/AMA Words of Brandon. However, since the wiki pages draw from all available sources, it is best to wait until you have caught up to avoid spoilers (but they have a spoiler free mirror when new books are released for six months so if you haven't read the lasted (in this case Lost Metal) you can continue to use the Coppermind before you do read it. Example: The Shards of Adonalsium, or Shards for short, are sixteen pieces of the power of creation.[2] They are each named after a specific characteristic or ideal that represents the Shard's primary purpose or motivation. A person who has taken up the power of a Shard is the Vessel of that Shard.[3] Mistborn: Secret History part 3 chapter 2 Hero of Ages Q&A - Time Waster's Guide— Arcanum - 2008-10-15 Mistborn: Secret History part 5 chapter 2 That said, besides what was already referenced above, the number "16" was first dropped in HoA (Mistborn Era 1), as well as the name Adonalsium (in the epilogue). Vessels were hinted at in HoA; since we see Vin Ascend, and see the bodies of both Vin and Ati fall to the ground in the climax. Rhythm of War and Lost Metal are the most Cosmere-aware books so far; with the former being slightly in the background and the latter being the first "official" book where that aspect is in the foreground of the book.

Perpendicularities, Investiture and Aluminum
Treamayne replied to QafianSage's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Well, if you had enough investiture to start a Perpendicularity, then used it in a magic system; it may not be free to form a Perpendicularity any more. WoB: So, in your example, it would probably matter if the investiture use in awakening remains on the physical realm, or is it inhabiting the Cognitive aspect while "awakened." ALso note, Nightblood (even after taking a bite from Odium in RoW) either doesn't have enough investiture to pierce the realms - or the investiture used in Awakening doesn;t natually pierce the realms while an object is "Awake." WoB While it is not directly relevant, there is this WoB, as well:- 5 replies

I'm reading The Stormlight Archive for the first time
Treamayne replied to Amira's topic in Stormlight Archive
Welcome to the forums, but please do not double-post. If you were not aware, this may help: Hope that helps. You may be right, but that is not at all the impressions I had from the books: Interpretation and context are important (one of the great things about reading as a medium as opposed to film/TV) but this is what I get out of those references: When it comes to treating anybody (slaves or otherwise) like he does in this scene; it implies that the person no longer considers the abused to actually be people. I don't think a slaver could abuse, malnourish, and murder the slaves in their charge if they didn't, on a fundamental level, stop thinking of them as people - and only consider them to be cattle/product. It's the same documented mindset of sociopaths and psychopaths that engage in physical, mental, and/or emotional torture. To go back on his word and undercut Kaladin for revenge, and the small possibility of better sales for being seen as "honest," these spiteful tactics do not seem like a "good merchant in a bad situation" to me. I'm fairly certain that if Shallan had been Darkeyed (or if Tvlakv had had the materials to fake a slave contract) in this scene, he would definitely have turned Shallan into a slave. Only the fact that she was Lighteyed and "might be missed" saves her here. This just reinforces that even after they have been traveling together for a bit, Tvlakv is still contemplating how to resolve the situation to his best benefit. If he had decided that meant killing her and taking the trunk of goods or faking a slave contract for her, I have no doubt that is what he would have done. Again, that is all how the character and those interactions felt to me. Tvlakv didn't really feel "malicious" as much as eternally selfish and pragmatic. Whatever situation would be best for Tvlakv is the path he would choose. As for his debts - that's WoR Ch 15: The snake oil is dripping off of Tvlakv here. And just because we find out he has debts that are forcing him into a slave caravan route to/from the Shattered Plains does not mean he was a previously great merchant who is now "having it rough." For all we know, before his debts maybe he ran one of the slave pens in a larger city where he could do more damage to more people (slaves/wares) in the name of bigger profits. At least, that's the impression I had - he had no qualms with the morals and violence of his slave trade, just with the fact that his caravan route wasn't very profitable for the high amount of time spent. Compare to Vstim for how reputable Thaylen merchants behave. Glad you are still enjoying it too. She should I'm not sure she had anything in mind. . . Shallan seems like a "talk first, plan later" type to me (especially in this book) -
Have you read any of Brandon Sanderson's other works? As far as The Way of Kings - You will probably enjoy it if you like: Epic Fantasy long books (each around 1000 pages - give or take) Hard Magic with rules and implications to/from physics and the natural world More explanation is required, but the logic and implications are great Non-Earth-like geography/ecology/weather For example the world of this book has no axial tilt, so "seasons" are entirely unlike what you expect that word to mean Multiple viewpoint characters - with each done as limited third person narration That said, if you are new to Brandon Sanderson; while you can technically start with any series, this is not the series with which I normally recommend to friends for starting. I would normally recommend them to start with either: Elantris (if you prefer intrigue, drama and puzzles) Mistborn Trilogy (if you have a preference for action)

I thought that was what you meant, but I wasn't positive; and so I felt that verifying was better than assuming. . . Thank you very much.

The original Question was how Not-Wax was using all of the Duralumin Steelpushes without Pewter and without killing himself. That was resolved because I had missed the part where Wayne mentions him having Pewter -Enhanced Strength (and what I get for reading that late. . . ) But that answer led to the question of Wayne's Coinshot spike - if the Set's "Cycles" were using four spikes (one Trellium) and Not-Wax had Durlumin, Thug, Seeker and Leecher. . . then where did Wayne get a Coinshot spike? A pewter spike would have given him a Physical Feruchemical Power (which is why I have been trying to refer to the spike's material by metal, and the spike's charge by misting/ferring name) That was one of the possibilities I considered. We also don't know if/how one of the spikes being made of Trellium affects the ability granted by the spike. It could also be that the Seeker spike was Trellium, and that allowed it to detect more varieties of investiture. . .

I don;t think we have confirmation, but there are many theories (most of which revolve around the fact that Dalinar's personal Glyphpair for the Kholin Princedom is the Tower and the Crown). However Elhokar's was the Tower and Sword. We do not yet know Adolin's (now that he is Highprince); nor do we know if Elhokar was using the same pair as Gavilar, what pair Gavinor will have nor if Navani and/or Jasnah will have their own, inherit one or something else. Sometimes it is the fault of the browser, not the user. Simply click "report post" on the top of each post and list the reason as "Duplicate post" and the mods can sort it out.

It's not a theory, so much as conjecture to incite discussion. The problem is, BoM showed a three spike cap for the Set. TLM Ch 6 showed they were able to get that up to four spikes by using a Trellium spike for one of the spikes (to prevent interference by Harmony). If we have established that Not-Wax had spikes for Leecher, Duralumin, Seeker and Thug - then where did the Coinshot spike come from? It's most likely that Wax was wrong about him being a natural Coinshot, and he was naturally one of the other four (leecher? seeker?) and therefore had a Coinshot Spike. However, since the text makes such a big deal about Wax deducing that he was a Natural Coinshot with the four spikes previously mentioned - it seems odd that Wax would not have mentioned (thought) about his being wrong previously. . . Or did he perchance have five spikes (two Trellium Spikes)?
-
Precisely, if you look at the linked tables, a Steel spike steals "Physical Allomantic Abilities." What if the charge doesn't say "This stole the ability to burn Pewter" but just says "Physical Allomancy" and the ability you gain is decided by where the spike is placed, not by what the spike stole? Then the same Steel spike that Not Wax was using to burn Pewter was used to give Wayne the ability to burn Steel. Otherwise, I don't see where Wayne's Coinshot Spike came from
-
Speaking of Wayne, where did the Coinshot spike come from? In Ch 25 we get: So, do we think he was a Natural Coinshot with Thug, Leecher, Seeker, and Duralumin spikes? Does the Steel spike (Physical quadrant Allomantic abilities according to the Hemalurgy table) giving him Pewter allow Wayne to gain Coinshot abilities based on where it is placed (i. e. Placed in Slot A = Steel, Slot B = Pewter, Slot C = Iron, Slot D = Tin)? As far as Wax is concerned, I think the Lerasium dust may have given him some abilities and Harmony's other 15 vials had other metals (different per vial) to see if Wax would subconsciously burn them (like Vin was doing before realizing she was Mistborn, or Eland burning Pewter while unconcious after the Lerasium bead).

WoB about the Slang/Imperial: I would probably go with something like: Hating the be of the people with the annoying there.

I'm reading The Stormlight Archive for the first time
Treamayne replied to Amira's topic in Stormlight Archive
Maybe I'm just a bad person, but in this chapter I only felt that Tvlakv was - finally - reaping what he had sewn. And thanks to Pattern, Shallan knew she was on the tightrope with him and he would keep trying to find an excuse to enslave her (or at least keep trying to get back at her for shanghai-ing him into this trip in the first place). -
There is also the element of even if they survive, it is similar to a lobotomy. WoB: Sure, if they lose an arm to acid, they can eat more "protein" and build extra flesh to fashion a new arm - but they'll never recover the lost memories the acid destroyed. . .

Era 1 (The Final Empire) and Era 2 Combined Maps
Treamayne replied to LadyLameness's topic in Mistborn
Well, the primary changes were moving both the Northern Continent south from the North Pole, and the Southern continent moved north from the South Pole. But you may also notice that Luthadel was north of the Northern Roughs (near the border between Era 2 Hathsin and Channerell while Tathindwen was near what is still "Old Terris" in Era 2. -
I kinda doubt that Wax knows this or that it was covered in Spook's book about Hemalurgic experiments (since even if we know Spook worked with Kelsier - Wax didn't know that because he was surprised at the Survivor's memory). Also, we have no indications that Marsh helped either Kelsier or Spook (and probably did not as he would have agreed with Harmony that their experiments were not a great idea and recording the information an even worse idea). Why and how would Spook have learned the inner secrets of Inquisitor hemalurgy? (beyond the bare minimum that Marsh shared at the end of TFE) I do agree that this is also a possibility. . .

Don't forget that the very last line of the epilogue is: So, not only could TOdium have imitated Rayse's voice (sound wise) but having looked at Wit's memories when he stole them, he was able to see what Wit thought Rayse would be like (or possibly how the mortal Rayse acted before Ascending). Yes it is over-the-top melodrama; but it was designed to meet Wit's expectations because the first interaction went poorly (from TOdium's persepective) so while the speech patterns and vocabulary don't match the Odium we saw before this - it doesn't mean that the voice sounds don't match (even if the audiobook narrator changed the sounds), and the context was designed to meet the expectations of the audience (Wit).

No worries, it's easy to miss since so much of the informatino was not in the books themselves (nor is all information just in WoBs). Now I'm picturing huge Sazed Fingers picking up masked Scadrians one-by-one like in the various Tycoon games (Rollercoaster Tycoon, etc).

Yes, Ch 50: More likely an off world Fabrial, as we know Nicki tangles with Nazh in the New Seran Broadsheet (BoM) and Nazh had fabrials that interact with Cognitive Shadows when she "met" him.

Fantastic likely crossover catch by redditor
Treamayne replied to Serack's topic in Cosmere Discussion
It also would not necessarily have to be eight Skybreakers. If a non-Rosharan (or non-Alethi Rosharan) Skybreaker did manage to say oaths to the Ghostbloods and find a way off world, that Radiant could have Scadrian Squires (maybe even Misting/Ferring Squires). The fact teh Mraize wants to bond and enlightened Spren implies that non-Rosharans can form Nahel bonds. For that matter, it could be a Non-Rosharan bonded to an Enlightened Highspren. . . I'm not sure which possible theory I beleive yet, just adding ideas to the communal hearth. -
There is also this WoB that correlates:

Not to mention that if you go TLM > RoW, until you hit the eveal it is still possible that Thaidakar is somebody separate from Kelsier because it is implied through the first three books that Thaidakar is on Roshar (or just the leader for that branch of Ghostbloods). Since I also have a friend going through this method, I'll be sure to ask him when he gets to RoW if he felt that reveal was "spoiled." He started with Elantris, followed with Mistborn Era 1 and Warbreaker, but since the Lost Metal release was close he read Emporer's Soul and went straight to Era 2 (with Secret History) and is saving Stormlight Archive for after Lost Metal. As of this afternoon, he's doing the Audible version and was on TLM Chapter 20ish.
