What are the powers of today's Heralds?
IndigoAjah replied to NeutroniumAlchemist's topic in Stormlight Archive
Szeth nearly lost Kaladin, and Kaladin snuck up on Szeth despite both being aware of and looking for each other... Nalan is a herald, with so much more flying experience than the other two that it's hard to envisage the mathematical difference, whom neither expected to see, who seems to be able to track people using stormlight. It seems hugely possible that he could avoid either of them seeing him -
How many Nalans are we really seeing...? (WoR Spoilers)
IndigoAjah replied to pharaoh9000's topic in Stormlight Archive
I'm 99% percent sure it's all one person and he is the actual original herald Nalan and that he is rather insane at this point- 33 replies

How many Nalans are we really seeing...? (WoR Spoilers)
IndigoAjah replied to pharaoh9000's topic in Stormlight Archive
Good points, the main issue with him flying isn't that it's easy to see (I don't think it is, he's a man sized object in a sparsely populated world without radar. People have no idea how big the sky is, how relatively low one could fly and be out of sight, how impossible spotting aircraft was without radar) but that it would burn through Stormlight like nothing else None the less, I expect this is how he travels, because it fits every other aspect of the picture. The alternative for me is that he is using the giant portal thingys, forgotten the name- 33 replies

Maybe everyone goes to Braize and is tortured forever by Odium :/

Typically, what these shows/movies do is cast young unknowns as the young, main cast (see GoT) but established actors in the supporting roles. Really, most of the screen time will be taken by the young unknowns anyway, so it wouldn't cost that much to have experienced actors in other roles. Especially as actors like Purefoy and Cumberbatch are very happy to come and do shows on the BBC which by definition do not make a profit That said, Dakota Blue Richards is hardly a hollywood big name, she's very very good and she's the right age for Vin

Much like Wax making himself lighter, they don't need to store these things to tap: they can use them as much as they like by storing the opposite
-
Not being noble, does he have a last name?
-
Not moving is not the same as moving slowly, right? To store speed, you'd have to move constantly but very slowly, which sounds inherently impractical

Marasi, the Trap: where do you store your metal?
IndigoAjah replied to Pechvarry's topic in Mistborn
I mean, one of the worst things about metal poisoning is that the body can't really degrade or excrete metals, allowing for cumulative effects and deposition amongst other things. Mistings don't have this issue as they can instantly burn any metal and so will never allow it to deposit in their blood or organs, I'd say that at least in more a logical aspect of their primary superpower rather than a secondary one -

Heavy metal poisoning is hardly instant, and I assume before it starts to cause damage, mistings can burn the metal in their blood too? -
Nicrosil probably allows you to store specific investiture. Tin lets you pick which senses you store. We don't really know how storing identity works. The main difference between these types of attributes, and memory too, is that they are much more complex than most of the others. Also, there would be little usefulness in storing these generically, it's possible that because of this Ferruchemists learnt to tap them and store them more specifically in order to get the use out of them and that this would be possible for the other metals and store specific types of strength, speed, etc

How much atium should the kandra's cache have contained?
IndigoAjah replied to Thermophile's topic in Mistborn
Isn't there a WOB somewhere that the Lord Ruler doesn't even need to stay old at all, he just chooses to? Or am I inventing that? -
I don't think copper is alone in that. All feruchemy is, is taking one thing that belongs to you and storing it elsewhere and letting you access it later. Both approaches fit this pattern
-
Is that relevant socially/culturally though?
-
When you fill a copper mind, it means you no longer have those memories in your mind, yes? If so, i have a great idea about creating a master plan for espionage etc that would fit together perfectly and be produced by just one person but they would be impossible to torture for the details

With an n of two for the greater metals, similarities between the pulse patterns would be very possible to be present due to sheer chance. Could easily imagine a consistency that was in fact pure coincidence, especially with some expectation confirmation bias added in

Personally I think people are commonly misconceiving the meaning of that epithet. 3 ruling is clearly cultivation, honor and odium, but I think the broken one is honor. The key is the meaning and deliberate selection of ruling, which is active, vs reigning, which is inactive. The Queen of the U.K. (And other places) Reigns, but she doesn't Rule anymore. Honor is still Reigning, he is revered as God in a way most of the planet doesn't revere the other 2 shards, but he doesn't Rule and he is known to be broken, and I'm not sure either of the other shards can be seen to be actively involved in running Roshar, with the gap between Desolations and him being on Braize stopping Odium and Cultivation seeming hands off
