Hoid with the bead of Lerasium (Spoilers)
IndigoAjah replied to FlailingMunchies's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Although, Hoid has some link with the people of Terris - it seems he founded the Worldsingers on Roshar and there's a WOB saying their similarity to the Worldbringers of Terris is not coincidental. and the Worldbringers are specifically Feruchemists -
Kind of like divine Vengeance? Raguel and all that?It (the Intent) may even have been a deliberate latent form of revenge that Adonalsium had ready as a trap for anyone who managed to splinter it?

Now this may be speculative, and is based on a sample size of only 2 and some guesses about Odium/Rayse's character... but Odium's actions and suspected actions make me believe this. What we know of Odium: 1)he splintered Dominion and Devotion on Sel 2) he has splintered at least one (but not specifically one) other Shard between that and being trapped in the Roshar System 3) he went to, became trapped on but also killed Honor on Roshar, which also has Cultivation on planet (confirmed not to have killed/splintered her). 4) he knows about Sazed and implicitly then Harmony and is afraid of him He may well be interfering on Scadrial but this is far from certain. This is a small sample size, but he has picked out, in terms of the confirmed planets he has visited, 2 Shardworlds that specifically have 2 Shards on them. Now if his aim is to pick off the Shards one by one, then this makes little sense. There are worlds with only one Shard on them, and there is definitely less risk in attacking one Shard at a time. I suspect he has splintered 2 Shards, actually, in step 2 above. He also fears Harmony and this is most likely because Harmony is a Double-Shard, I think confirmed as the only one. Odium is clearly splintered Shards to be the most powerful being in the Cosmere but I think he has a more specific fear - that someone will do what Sazed has done and hold 2 Shards, which creates the situation where he (I assume) can no longer best them in raw power in direct conflict, and where he himself might be overpowered. This is what his purpose was - to seek out Worlds where this might happen and risk the 2 Shards potentially ganging up on him but in doing so stopping them from getting the chance to take a Shard from each other or someone else managing it like Saze. Sazed is his worst nightmare, which makes me sure that he is the one interfering in Scadrial's affairs, trying to force Harmony to use more of his Investiture up, or manipulate him into being unable to reconcile the 2 Intents of his Shards and having to give one up. I also think it's a possibility that in Mistborn modern day era, Sazed ends up splitting Harmony again as the Shards become harder to hold together and their combined Intents become harder to align into any action. And that then after either Book 5 or the whole Series of SA, Odium may get free and come straight after Scadrial. Or maybe the nature of the Shards and their relationships (I suspect Leras and Ati were friends and we have had it confirmed, I think, that Cultivation and Tanavast were lovers) or the limits of their Intents (Ruin and Preservation needing each other to create) just means there were a high number of worlds with 2 Shards. 2 Shards certainly makes things more interesting.

I don't think this is what happened but I do think it's an interesting and clever theory. Upvote for you

I assume you were storing and tapping Atium -
I would love to see a Bendalloy-A, Steel-F Twinborn. If they had enough Bendalloy, it would be much easier, I think, to store Speed without the huge drag of moving in slow mo, and burning the Bendalloy whilst tapping speed would make you comparatively SO quick!

That is very fast. I will stick with my comparatively modest 100-150 pages per hour (depending on text size and complexity) -
Would be interesting whether the Alethi would even be capable of holding Kaladin. And I suspect Adolin would own up in those circumstances

OOf. That sounds like a bold challenge to put out to the entire forum! -

But lots of us are saying that we think he COULD use Allomancy in WoR without having burned the Leerasium.

But would he need to? A Lerasium bead is a tiny fraction of Preservation's power. Ascending means temporarily taking on pretty much all of Preservation, right? He should be able to make himself almost infinitely more powerful than a Lerasium Mistborn, the link to Preservation is far greater and he had the power to change the planet's position in space and the sDNA of its inhabitants! To me, he doesn't need any other tricks to boost his Allomancy - he had the means to make himself incomparably more powerful in that area

Atium's other effects, and Hoid [WoR, SH and BoM Spoilers]
IndigoAjah replied to Khyrindor's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Hoid's sense is more a "narrativium/destiny" sense than anything to me. I suspect it's what feruchemically used Lerasium does and Hoid used another less effective method before this, but now uses the Lerasium, but this means that he can't know what to do and where to be all the time as the Lerasium bead is small and he has to fill it with a sense of aimlessness and ennui, which is why he doesn't just fix everything and has to act quite tangentially considering that he is deemed interventionalist by Frost. It fits Preservation's aptitude with the future as well, just like Atium's uses fit Ruin's. And fits the Intent of Preservation -
Perdido Street Station is weird but excellent, in my opinion. Though my favourite of Mieville's works is The City and The City

I do wonder if Nightblood might be the only non-Shard thing able to kill Odium though...

I think the quote is "no longer exists in the form it did"

Endowment deliberately created Splinters, no? As for banishing Odium, I think that is the end game of stormlight, and the good guys will be forced (and essentially conned) into doing it, unable to defeat him outright and that it will be VERY bad for the Cosmere, as Odium is now trapped, and Hoid's aim is ideally to defeat Odium but secondarily to stop him being freed on the Cosmere by "banishing" him and that this is what he means when he warns Dalinar that their plans might clash and he would watch Roshar burn. Stormlight is going to have, either at midway or the end, a bittersweet ending for Roshar but a downer ending for the Cosmere in general, and that allows him to be the Big Bad for the whole universe. And sorry for the necromancy

NightBlood is made out of Ventablack

The Night Manager on the BBC. Which has glorious performances by Tom Hiddlestone, Olivia Coleman and Hugh Lawrie.

If they think Jordan's pace is slow, they should avoid the likes of Stephenson! (whom I adore) Or even Gaiman! I quite like mixing up the pace of my books, same with films, always depends on my mood and how I feel my attention span is doing

Two Years, Eight Months and Twenty-Eight Nights by Salman Rushdie. Which is... interesting

Possible early referenc/evidence to Ettmetal's composition
IndigoAjah replied to ParadoxicalZen's topic in Mistborn
Yeah but Saze doesn't have an opposing Shard on his planet (one off planet isn't quite the same) and in theory could lose a lot of Investiture before another Full Shard would be of equal power (at least, I'm assuming?). Right now, logically, he is the most powerful being in the Cosmere. And Ati, over the centuries, pumped LOADS of Investiture into his metal (and Leras into other things). All of the Atium ever mined ends up being a huge amount (I also wonder where the Investiture goes after the Atium is burned - overall it has to be maintained somewhere, but where when we know it doesn't go back to Ruin?). And most other Shards Invested in their planets, so far as we know, significantly (except Odium, probably, who is trapped and fears Harmony)
