Hey, I did that with BoM and SH! Great minds think alike, am I right?
-
I had that as a child. Like, exactly that. Clothing buttons - but metal ones were okay - those like the ones used in the "formal shirts" (button-up shirts? That's how it's called?) I hated. Fortunately no more. I grew out of it, I suppose.

(Spoilers all) Who are the parshendi gods?
Oversleep replied to ICanDream's topic in Stormlight Archive
Haven't they refered to Odium as king of their gods? Since Unmade are Splinters of Odium, it would strongly imply their gods are Unmade. -
Right now it's 10 pm and 3 hours ago you said it was 9am which means now it's noon so I'm 10 hours off? Or is that "3 hours ago" too vague and it's actually 11 am where you are?

I don't think there is such thing as "born Elantrian". Probably Arelon then.
-
IIRC I'm about six to eight hours ahead of the States. Right now it's 8 pm.
-
@Calderis for - probably - being some offshoot of the Sanderbot Initiative. The abnormal pace of posting and unbelieveable speed of amassing rep, not to mention firm grip of Realmatics all point to it.

Elantrian. No buts, no ifs.

Everyone can participate in gathering the knowledge! Most of mine comes from "OK, I'm gonna write an article about this stuff. Let's read every WoB with that word in it"; it's great for systematization of information. I want to gather quotes about stuff (IIRC we were arguing with someone about steelbubble and had trouble pulling up quotes) so that it's properly in one place (that's what the Ultimate Reread thread is for); I believe that properly organized information is much more easy to learn. I don't know what to do with WoBs though; some say coppermind is sufficient but some WoBs just are too vague and out of context to be injected into some article in coppermind. I think that we could write up extracts of new WoBs (like, there was this event, here's all info in short form). But we have already problems with transcribing stuff so...

Never meet your heroes, Calderis; or something What I lack in history of Sanderson books I make up with long days of WoB hunting My rise to Cosmere knowledge was quick and swift; actually, now I think about it, the era of internet is strange. See, I started out by digging myself into heaps of WoBs, then I started dumping some of my newfound knoweldge in a group on Facebook, got noticed by the owner of the fansite (which had a deal with publisher; we got our logo on their Sanderson books and they give us some copies to give out in contests and stuff), then I started writing for it and - fast forward to 2017 - that's how I got to go and participate in interviewing Brandon. And - which was completely surreal - at the signings people came up to me to thank me for my articles on Cosmere. One of my top unexpected experiences. Oh man, what a pity. I'm not sure how that stuff works but if I had to guess it's because Australia is not in Shengen and therefore you need to have a passport.

It's also in the Hero Of Ages. Sazed realized that when TenSoon visits.

March 2015. I was sick for a week and read WoK which I got for Christmas (I haven't had time to read it earlier since I was playing through Assassin's Creed franchise). I got WoK like... I walked in the store sometime in the winter to look around to give my grandma something to get me for Christmass; I saw this enormous book (and the cover was quite distinctive: And it had Rothfuss approval on it. And since the last good thing I read was his Kingkiller Chronicle... the rest is history. Hard to say. I love Way Of Kings; also it was my first Brandon's book so that sense of wonder and amazement will stay with me until my memory degrades. I'd say Dalinar or Kaladin in WoK. I also love Emperor's Soul. That's amazing. Shadows of Self, if only for the ending alone (make no mistake, the rest of the book is solid but that ending, man...). There are a lot of great quotes. But leaving all that "great quote material" aside (all that "Honor is dead" and "there's always another secret" stuff), it's either or If we're talking about the "great quote material stuff", it's probably something Hoid said or perhaps something Dalinar said related to the Codes or Way of Kings. That'd probably be my city, Wrocław. Probably some part of the Old Town, where the gaslamps are or a place by the river with a view of the Cathedral on a warm summer night. I have not traveled much (which means something more than just driving through a country because I have done that a lot) but either the Seven Rila Lakes in Bulgarian mountains or some Italian city. I have only visited Rome so far and I'd like to go see Florence, Tuscany, Forli, Venice and Monteriggioni (yes, those are all Assassin's Creed locations I have run over and through countless times. What can I say, I love Renessaince Italy. And the feeling of "I have been here before" was a nice addition where I was in Rome). Also, I love Italian food.

The only place the gender doesn't matter with inheritance in Seven Kingdoms is Dorne (hence the plot with crowning Myrcella since by their law she had better claim to the Iron Throne than Tommen). Iron Islands don't concern themselves with heirdom anyway - they just choose the next leader.
-
He's under "worldhoppers, Hoid, the usual". Added. --- Everyone: it's nice that you add stuff to look out for, but is anyone actually doing a reread and taking notes? After all, the purpose of this thread is to also gather knowledge in form of relevan quotes.

It'd rather be "nearest male blood relative".

Because of the difference between Innate Investiture and Kinetic Investiture. And no, nicrosil does not store any Investiture, only the Innate kind. Only the kind that's in your soul. Even without another metalmind you're a Feruchemist for the time being. You don't need another metalmind for anything (apart from the fact it's handy); you can store just fine and you'll be able to tap what you stored too. Even without a metal to burn you're an Allomancer for the time being. But Allomancers need metals to burn and so do you. I see it differently. Just like any metal can be used in any of the Three Metallic Arts, any spren can work within any of the Rosharan magics (I can dig up a WoB if you want). In Scadrial's case, some people metabolize the metal, some store things in it by touch and some stab people with it to transfer parts of soul. In Roshar's case, some people bond the spren, some merge with them, and... <third system unknown, error>.- 143 replies

No, nicrosil stores Innate Investiture. The various "abilities to use manifestations of Investiture" are hardwritten in the soul, and soul is made of Investiture. Just like Hemalurgy steals Innate Investiture. It's the same thing. Theoretically - I think - you could store and tap much more than just abilities. Aluminum is Spiritual Feruchemical metal. Identity is Spiritual attribute. Nicrosil stores parts of your Spiritweb. ... what? Why? This train of thought is very strange to me. Allomancers need to have proper spiritual genes and Feruchemists too; having metal does nothing by itself. Surgebinders bond spren. Listeners merge with the spren (notice lack of any bond whatsoever, as they fuse into one being). Why the fact that spren are focus would make them suddenly able to grant powers to anyone?- 143 replies
