Long Game 69: The Politics of the Passions
Elkanah replied to Zillah's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I admit you make a strong point here. Potentially giving the elims two kills is not great... My only rebuttal is that I think there is only one more elim. Therefore the maximum number of kills available is one. It'd be interesting if they used the passion of violence instead of whatever their own kill was called. Although I fear it is just the passion of violence that they serve. They tend to serve the slaughter after all. Edit: To clarify: if there is only one eliminator left, It doesn't matter what passion they get. They will use their kill no matter what. -

Ooh I'll do one too! Passion - This depends on your risk level. Given you chose to do illegal things, your risk tolerance is decently high so Narcotics is the best decision. If your risk tolerance has already been maxed simply by choosing to do illegal things, you can get off scott free by choosing survival. If you are in the middle, Sabotage and Coercion are more or less the same thing if you don't have an idea of who is bad. Coercion is definitely the funnier of the two and Sabotage is the more powerful because it's the only way to block an elim kill. Sooo. If you have a strong suspicion, use the role block. If you are afraid of dying, use survival. Otherwise I recommend Narcotics. (and I know where you can get them). Survival - Redirect to your strongest suspicion. That will point seers and kills headed for you to them. Double whammy. Sabotage - Block your strongest suspicion. If you're lucky you stop the kill and we lynch them. Narcotics - Wheeeee! Coercion - Force your strongest suspicion to choose illegal stuff hoping they get blocked. @Zillah, Can someone who is caught submit the elim kill? Violence - Roll a D10!!! or just kill your top suspect -

Long Game 69: The Politics of the Passions

Matrims Dice - Doing again because it changed- I won't link because it's up three posts. Top five suspects are Experience, Lotus, Me, Mint and Kynedath. As I said, I'll revise my thoughts on Experience and I reserve the right to revise Frozen Mint after I've done the analysis here that I want. Looks like he's lightening on Lotus, but we could really just use a scan there. Kynedath is another good scan target while I'm on the subject. I'm very keen to hear a reason to suspect me. I understand that I have a chaotic playstyle which can make me a little harder to read, but I challenge you to come up with any evidence. Or better yet, questions that I can answer with things that will confuse and delight the moderator if nothing else. Experience - Voted on Vapor after her claim. Okay honest opinion. I think he was the one she was apologizing to at the end of the day turn. He claimed he had a double counting vote. He probably told her she should have been more coy about being an elim because he could have saved her with the vote. Every time he mentions Vapor it's pretty clear they work as a team. I bow to your wisdom @Matrim's Dice. Experience defended Vapor and Lotus and Pyro. That said, I have a hard time believe it's as easy as that. It makes me wonder if Lotus and Pyro are village. which would leave Kynedath and Ashbringer as my top suspects after Experience. I looked back through his posts and the most useful ones are the ones where he goes in depth on specific people. He decided Matrim was elim, Lotus was neutral, and Illwei was village. So Lotus could be a teammate or not. I'm still fairly certain of Matrim and Illwei's alignments. Frozen Mint - Here is a post I'm sorry I never responded to. The only people she lists as elims are Vapor and Experience. I don't think she needed to say Experience was bad this early if she was an elim and I maintain my earlier read for now. Null reads on Illwei, Lotus, TJ Shade, Kynedath and Pyromancer. Any updates to those five with the added info from the lynch @Frozen Mint? Ooh another post. Good. Suspicious of TJ... hmm. The thing is I'm not. Wow, how did you know my question before I posted??? Way to anticipate. TJ Shade - Expressed suspicion of Sart early, but seems satisfied with Lord Silberfarben's scan. Main suspicions are Experience, Lotus, Mint and Kynedath. Do you have support for reading Ashbringer as village? I don't have any indicators either way yet, but then I haven't done my read of their most recent reads yet. Working on Ashbringer, I found a post I wanted to highlight. Good job here. The linked post is the one that gave me the idea to do this one. I do like lists, and having a list of lists is even better. Of course we still don't know if it was Vapor or Experience who submitted the kill, but we can be fairly sure it was one of the two. Lord Silberfarben - Trusts Sart. This is all Lotus - Wouldn't it be interesting if Lotus got survival? Just a thought. So much more has been said about Lotus than by Lotus. I recommend using the find function and looking at how many times their name comes up. Shocking. That said, I can't find anywhere that you suspect anyone. Would you be willing to give us your top three suspects and top three trusts? @Lotus Kynedath - Defended Lotus. This is everything relevant. The Young Pyromancer - Wow, I have found a reason to suspect Lotus. Thank you Pyro! Ashbringer - Has only expressed suspicion of Mint and Irkedness at me. If it helps any, I don't think the game will last long enough for you to have tried illegal stuff twice . More seriously, are you still suspicious of Frozen Mint or have your suspicions evolved? Fwew, that took some work. I adjusted the colors appropriately, but the order remains since some things reference things after them and so they should stay after them. The next logical step is to provide a list of who is suspected by whom and include reasons. Unfortunately I'm a little spent by this last list, so it may have to wait until tomorrow. The good news is we all know who we are lynching so I have time for overcomplicated shenanigans like this. I maintain that Mint is unlikely to be an eliminator. It looks like she really was just the last person to show up and that's why she was poked. When you say "two of her elim teammates" it sounds like you believe there are more than three elims. Is this the case? Also, what does "get away with it" mean. Sorry. I don't mean to be confrontational. I'm just creatively spent for a minute so I'm reading super far into your wordings even though I believe you are village. haha. I've tried to be less subtle about it now. I am explicitly defending Mint. If she's bad, then I've duped myself. Just jumped right into her pocket. I never claimed to be good at werewolf. I just like doing dumb stuff and looking for patterns. wow, I start writing scary stuff when I'm overtired. I don't know how you guys do it. time to stop before I really mess something up. -

Sart - Is suspicious of Pyro over Elandera's last post. Fair enough, I don't have reason yet to trust Pyromancer either. What are your thoughts now that we found Vapor @Sart Illwei - Doesn't believe TJ and I are elims together. I also want to believe TJ is village. Suspicious of Ashbringer's fishing for info. Here is a list of reads. Illwei was unsettled or worse by Experience, Matrim, TJ, Pyro and myself. Of those, I would be most suspicious of Pyro, but only by process of elimination. Here Slightly earlier, Illwei is sus of Kynedath, Vapor, Pyro and Sart. 24 hours apart and Pyro and Vapor are the only two that made both lists. What changed your mind about Kynedath and Sart in those 24 hours? @Illwei Wait, I found where you changed on Sart, but not Kynedath. Matrims Dice - Top suspects are Lotus and Experience. Thinks he's going to die. Seconds that we should scan Lotus. I went back to find the reasons for suspicion on Lotus and Experience. Reason for suspecting Lotus. Reason for suspecting Experience. That's a fair call. Experience defends Vapor in the post above this. That's pretty incriminating and I may need to reconsider my position on Experience. Experience - Frozen Mint TJ Shade - Expressed suspicion of Sart early. Lord Silberfarben Lotus Kynedath The Young Pyromancer Ashbringer I probably should also share that I got connection. Nothing nefarious so I needn't be role blocked again. I'm running out of time before work, but I wanted to respond to this. I haven't gotten to your reasons for suspecting Experience. Is it the same as Matrim's? I'm counting on there being three elims total this game. I doubt Vapor poked both of her teammates day one, so if Experience turns up elim I don't think Mint is also bad. I reserve the right to change that when I get to go through Mint's suspicion lists. I'm interested to know from whom I am distancing? It wouldn't be either of the two others you said you are suspicious of because I kind of tied myself to them by saying I thought they were good. That's the opposite of distancing. Unless you think Kynedath and I are on a team which is the only person I've distanced from this game... but you don't. I am coming around on the idea of lynching Experience, but I'm going to finish my rainbow of accusations first when I get back from work. -

Here is a runthrough of Vapor's posts DAY 1 Claims she doesn't have insight and pokes Experience Fixes vote color Unpokes Experience Pokes Frozen Mint Illwei votes on them for this. Illwei is likely village Doesn't have much to say Matrim puts his vote on Vapor for the second time in the cycle. Matrim is likely village Emphasizes her vote is a poke Vapor doesn't get on to break tie. Pretty risky. NIGHT 1 Claims she would have saved Mist. (I actually believe this. Interesting.) Asked about suspicion on her. Apologizes for misunderstanding suspicion Day 2 Soft claim elim Posts summary of reasons to lynch her and claims elim slightly more clearly soft backpedals elim claim, but says we should lynch her Apologizes to her team for being outed I'm interested to read the elim doc and see what is happening here It looks like she only ever voted for Experience and Mint. I don't think she would have voted on an elim. I know it's standard meta as a way to distance, but I doubt she did it. Therefore I am moving Illwei, Matrim and Sart to trusted status. Experience and Frozen Mint are at probably good status. Lord Silberfarben and TJ Shade are at 'I want to trust' status. Lotus, Kynedath, Pyromancer and Ashbringer are on the bubble. *compares notes with what others have said* I'll start that as a follow up post now. Someone please post in the next ~40 minutes so I don't double post -
I was just telling someone we needed a rerun of this game. The balance new balance on the HI is an interesting development. Having them start as an elim is likely to prevent them from claiming day one again, and will alter the game quite a bit from there since there is no chance of them ever being on the good team. Unless of course, you just decide to reveal who it is based on the flavor that everyone on the ship would know who the members of the crew are and who the ship is. I also think it's interesting that the hemalurgists will know the number of hemalurgists. This is effectively the case anyway. I like the forced lylo. I don't believe the village would be able to find and execute every traitor from there on out in a row, but I like giving that chance. I like this idea thematically, but I don't think it's good or bad either way. It shouldn't matter in the long term since the doc is anonymous. Overall, I think you did a good job adapting it, and look forward to playing

Long Game 69: The Politics of the Passions

lol. Yeah, I had coercion and was roleblocked. I have two reasons why I couldn't have known. I do what I can You cut me to the quick! I'm shot to the heart and you're to blame. I enjoyed your analysis and want to multiqute through every line, but I will try to give my thoughts without doing that. Survival I disagree that survival isn't helpful to the village. If I get survival, I have a three or four in 13 chance of moving everything to an eliminator. That includes role blocks, action checks, seers, and even possible kills. Every villager should use this ability as often as possible. Elims shouldn't. It's useless to you . Connection I like PMs. If you don't know what to do with this, consider talking to me. Empathy You make a solid point that we are liable to try relynching someone who uses this. I'd prefer if villagers use any means they may have to stay alive. If that means gaming a lynch, then by all means. Protection I was just talking to someone about how we don't see elims with bodyguard roles anymore... I guess I was wrong. Granted it's not very likely they get this. It is further unlikely they would waste a turn like this. Even so, this is probably the easiest set up for a WGG I've seen recently. Teamwork I agree Sabotage A good thing to target anyone except for me. Logic I agree. Planning I missed the part of this one that gives you two abilities to choose from and am now far more interested in't. @Zillah Will the abilities be from the same table. Are they guaranteed to be different from one another? Research Stellar example @Lord_Silberfarben. This is my favorite way to use this. Narcotics The best action in the game Coercion The second best action in the game when you aren't role blocked Violence Like I said. Since I have a better than 20% chance of hitting an elim, I'd take the shot. Happy Birthday!!!! I really just wanted to see who Elandera would vote for. I wasn't even sure I was going to leave my vote on Kynedath. Also you have my claim of action so it worked at least a little bit Thank you for your analysis! I hope to be helpful soon, too. -

Sorry everyone, I'm back. I have so many questions. approximately 48 hours should be Friday September 4th at 0100, right? Neither Tuesday nor September 3? Why Mist and Elandera? I will not be lynching or killing either of you for a good long time after this game. Awesome. Thank you for sharing! This is more information than I've had on day two in a while. As a note on this development, anyone with a protect today should consider protecting Sart. Silberfarben is very unlikely to be elim killed. IF he's village and found Sart, the elims can't kill him without proving Sart is good. If he's elim, he won't be targeted by elims anyway. I'm not alone! No, but there's a decent upside for you whichever team you're on. You reject my kind offer?! For this you must die!!! TJ Shade!!! Oh. Well this is awkward. TJ Shade I mean How dare you!! TJ Shade!!! Oh wait, this is a good thing. TJ Shade Heyyyy! I don't think they can, but that's all beside the point because I chose table three like I said. Oh, I guess survival is on there too. I didn't quite get narcotics, but I got the next best thing. Coercion! Greatest of passions. except I couldn't use it because of reasons (naming no Shades). Sorry this post is all responses and no accusations. I'll do what I can to go back and find real suspicions. I failed a kind of important test on Monday and need to do a lot to make that up, so it's likely you won't see me again for the next ten to twelve hours. Go ahead and @ me with anything you want a direct response about, but I'll definitely do another one of these catch up posts either way. -

Long Game 69: The Politics of the Passions
Elkanah replied to Zillah's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Hooray! conversation! No Worries! I'm glad you made it There is a fallacy that goes something like this: I usually think you are bad when you are good. Therefore, if I think you are good, then you are clearly bad. It feeds itself into a destructive pattern of "I can never believe you are good." I was nodding and winking at that fallacy. This is very true. I apologize. I tend to be glib when I have nothing useful to add. This is an example. We have only one serious vote cast this cycle so far, which is fine given it's cycle one and we still have almost 30 hours left in it. Since there is no clear leader in the votes I joked it was already clear who we were lynching and targeted myself. You also have an idea for a terrible spoiler to use for 4 dimensional chess?! I had to reread what I said about Kynedath. Right. Kynedath has done the usual thing we all do where we give our thoughts and opinions of various mechanics and their uses. Therefore he seems active. Me putting him as ever so slightly sus is my way of saying "good job being active, but I'd like more information pertaining to your alignment please." For Mist, see below Nope. Sorry, that is mostly RP. Also, I should clarify that I don't believe that trying to get village cred is alignment indicative. It's all I've done this game. I want the village to rake me over the coals cycle one so that I'm taken more credibly for the rest of the time I survive. Even though I'm not often right, we're able to see who is more eager to get rid of me, and that is information I can provide. In short, I believe you gained village cred by saying that you would not do illegal stuff. This is true for Matrim, Illwei, Kynedath, and TJ Shade. I really didn't have a reason to single you out. sorry about that. Ooooohh right. Sorry for misreading that. Huh, good question. I think the wording here is what felt weird to me. Coupled with that you followed TJ closely with suspicion of me for reasons I still can't guess at. Also, it was 3 a.m. when I wrote that, and it sounded good. Okay, so there are no vowels. I was trying to make Thaylen into a cross between Hebrew and Tlhingon. Although if I wanted it pronounced by the people of the empire, tlhi'na' may have been a more appropriate spelling. I will repent and pronounce your name correctly Now the important stuff: "Really? How organized could a bunch of thugs really be? Vanishings doesn't sound good, but it's gotta just be some hooey like the unmade to scare little kids into obedience." "Oh no, don't be a criminal or the ghostbloods'll get you." he added spooky spirit fingers for emphasis. He pushed open the door to the grand Thaylen political chamber holding it for Tara. A flood of noise pushed out the door. Ah politics. "Here, let me present first. When they hear how little progress I've made, You'll have a low bar set for you." @Mist -

Lknik considered for a minute. People were weird around the subject of Ghostbloods, but if he wanted to climb the ladder he'd need all the information he could get. "I'll take whatever you know. I'm sure it beats showing up with nothing more than a small list of petty thefts and hint at a legend." @Mist I realized I cut a corner that made the code easier to write, but a little harder to solve. I'll probably just post the answer at the start of the next cycle. I said fourthly twice because I had to interrupt my train of thought to finish my third thought. The first fourthly was a misdirect Ouch. Tough but fair. I'm glad you have a reason though. It's the code isn't it. It was foolish of me, but this is a long game after all ; ) Maybe it's all the white text, which would check out Okay I won't tell you This is all solid reasoning. I really shouldn't do anything illegal... and yet... See, you say that, but... Okay fine. I admit it's a bad idea. It still sounds like fun though! I'm excited for when the elim submitting an extra kill with the passion of violence targets himself thanks to the passion of survival XD I agree that the anonymous message is situational at best. You know I love a good PM chain, but only getting maybe one per cycle is waaay too slow for me to get good info out of it and it has been my experience that people who get put into a PM by a third party don't use it. That said, if anyone accidentallys their way into the PM thing, I'd enjoy a chat. I love to hear myself talk. I even make up stupid codes sometimes. You might also consider this one ----- Lastly, I should go to sleep, but I made a promise darn it! If I'm wrong, please just laugh at me and don't be mad. -

Long Game 69: The Politics of the Passions
Elkanah replied to Zillah's topic in Sanderson Elimination
First this: For those of you who don't like codes: Ignore it; It will end. It's way too much work to do a second time ; ) Next: @Mist Lknik hastily stowed his small vial and beamed. "nothing would make me happier." The way to the high courts of Thaylen city was impossibly crowded. Lknik tried his hardest to listen and give decent feedback as they walked, but with the impending election everyone was outside and preaching their own philosophies. "You sound very prepared, Tara. I was supposed to give the briefing on crime in the outer districts, but I still don't have much more than an elusive mention to ghostbloods. I only ever hear the term in whispers and if I ever ask what it means they look at me as if I just stabbed their mother!" @Mist --- Thirdly (Ninjad) Excellent choice! What is it about politicking that you find potent? Upon further reflection I think I can see. That passion of research is pretty strong. Zillah put the bodyguard and the seer in different tables. An interesting call. It looks like safety is entirely protective roles- Either for yourself or for others- except for teamwork. The second table is more geared to working with or around others. I'm not super interested in the roleblock or the PMs so there's a 60% chance of missing for me on that one. The passion of research is good if you can get it, but I think table one has survival, protection and teamwork that I wouldn't mind having. That leaves only a 40% of missing for me. Interestingly, table three is a kind of conglomeration of the other two. Survival and sabotage are already included in the other tables. Narcotics can literally give you the other tables. Coercion can force someone to use the other tables... and violence just kills someone. I wonder if that table is even worth using.... everything on it except the kill can be just as easily achieved in the thread and on any other table. hmm. and yet it calls to me so loudly. Fourthly (more ninjas) Wait, before I go to Kynedath I wanted to comment on this. Such a good question. I don't have time just now, but look forward to a list. You can all laugh at the woeful misrepresentation I supply, but I'm going to go through the player list and guess which table each of you would be likely to use the most. I in no way wish to offend any of you. This just informs you of what I believe your playstyle to be. Just for fun. Fourthly I agree. Everyone play how you like! That being said, wouldn't it be interesting (and maybe game breaking) if we all chose the second table? with fifteen of us, odds are good we would end up with one or two seers... just saying. I'll start with shooting down that idea (and I'm sure others will join me). 1 it wouldn't be fun. 2 It's not guaranteed. 3. I'm going after the illegal stuff anyway. 4. I am late for my thing 5 I'll be back later -

Lknik rubbed the viscous liquid between his fingers. Getting off firemoss was hard, but if he wanted to go anywhere in politics it was necessary. To beat the cravings he had created a chemical by combining ground fathom bark with gulket sap and a few other catalysts. The sensation in his hand was not entirely dissimilar to firemoss with the important distinction that it couldn't produce the same euphoria in his brain and it didn't leave as clear a mark on his fingers. He just hoped his new remedy wouldn't prove to be as addictive as the substance that preceded it.The heat he felt in his muscles was enough to quell the itching in his fingers for the narcotic so he could focus on the next matter at hand. He poured some water from a pitcher to rinse off his hand wincing at the sudden cold. Not a moment too soon. "Lknik" someone called from the door "Hurry! we need to be in the square for the debate!" @ anyone? -
GG all! Thank you @Araris Valerian for letting me live to cycle three. The dead doc was so fun to read! Thanks for responding to me @A Joe in the Bush! That was hilarious! I should have gone with my gut, but I was so glad that both Araris and Joe were active that I didn't want to believe either of you were bad. @Vapor, You did a decent job at covering your tracks as well. I loved Joe's advice in the doc and may be referencing it in the future if I get to the end of a game. Great game @Sorana! Thanks for getting me to pull my head out of the sand and actually vote for someone I thought was suspicious. I should do that more often @Gears here's to one of many attempts it will take for your gambit to pay off. I hope I'm around to see when it finally does Thank you @Illwei for your protection! It was almost perfectly timed. I rolescanned Araris! I just couldn't see the kill. Oof! I was soo close to greatness!!! Thank you @Straw and @Devotary of Spontaneity for running the game and @Matrim's Dice for being willing to make it happen! It was so fun! I just wish I was a little smarter and could have tied things together a little more efficiently.
