Agreed. The rough sketch is nice. The cover girl is too plastic pretty for Steris. I would like her to snap on the new unknown metal. At the very least I hope she helps to save the day by being her essential Steris self. Maybe her list highlights the big clue or her ability to see how people are likely to act due to the rules of society.
-
I love how Wax tells her she could just ask him about sex and what will be involved. I swear, I had actually imagined she would ask a prostitute what to do before I read it. Now to see if Lord Ladrian can catch a clue. I am on this ship and really hope we get a good view of how it wraps them both up. Those clips have to be a clue. I like what Twelfth of snack time had to say about the set maybe bilking everyone of just a little to get a lot.

Do we have conflicting WOB? In reply #15 he is quoted as saying they don't have gender. At any rate, we can conclude, "it's complicated".
-
Kandra don't have a gender,I believe. They aren't even like "Left hand of darkness" where everyone switched back and forth depending on the time and circumstances. They adopt a gender from the bones they use or the needs of circumstance. If you don't procreate, gender has no function. Kandra mimic gender related characteristics in their dealings with humans because that is how humans relate to other humans.

Steris gets to go, Steris gets to go, Steris gets to go! I think some of you are being too hard on Wax. The man had his heart ripped out. He didn't just lose his love, he was responsible for her death. BOTH TIMES. I think he has a right to still feel raw and betrayed. When has there ever been a hero chosen by a god ( in all the stories ever written) who didn't pay in both heart and soul for the quests they have to go on? It sucks to be the chosen one.

Oh no, ladies, the men are catching on! We better start convincing them war is a good thing.

Brandon Tweaking Words Of Radiance
GoddessIMHO replied to Kelsier Kenobi's topic in Stormlight Archive
I hate Szeth. If he is redeemed I hope it's by dying to save someone more worthy. Clearly, making a change to an already released ending must be required by the final story arc. I must trust the story teller when he stops and says "excuse me, I made a small mistake, this is what really happened ". I go for the gestalt of the story and the epic quest, not to catch the story teller in a mistake. This assumes the mistakes are few and not completely destroying my suspension of disbelief. -
I am missing something. Is Harmony the local god of the entire planet, or just of the northern part? He certainly knows what is going on in the south because he was telling Wax about how they were more technologically developed than the people in Elendel. I just thought certain things were being deliberately hidden from him, not that he didn't have the same power there. The Kondra however, seem to have been kept apart from the south or never previously had an interest in what was there until very recently.
-
Why would the language be completely unknown to the Kandra just because it was from the south? It seems more likely it might be from a time before the LR. Perhaps he could read it but then made sure the knowledge wasn't propagated... Certainly felt like I was reading from many of the discussions in this forum as we walked through the Kandra PowerPoint presentation of how this all would work. edited to fix some spelling and make a complete sentences.

I agree. Steris obviously sees this but every time she confronts Wax with the reality, he denies it. I think she is in love with Wax and would let him go because she wants him to be happy and not "trapped" with someone he doesn't want. She told him to forget the idea that he has to do this to pay back what her house has invested in him during chapter one. So why is he doing this to her? How does he think it would make her feel to share a bed with someone who had to grit their teeth and force themselves to say "I do"? Talk about a buzz kill.
-
So again we have Kandra going off on their own. This did not go well when Bleeder did it and left her susceptable to outside influence. I agree this is a different circumstance, but as the saying goes: the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

The Bands Of Mourning preview chapter (SPOILERS)
GoddessIMHO replied to Landis963's topic in Mistborn
A subtle touch that points to the problem with the current class system:Both Wax and Steris treat the valet, Drewton, like an appliance. He exists to dress Wax and disapear. They talk like he doesn't exist. It took me second look to realize the "ash girls" were flower girls.- 39 replies

The Bands Of Mourning preview chapter (SPOILERS)
GoddessIMHO replied to Landis963's topic in Mistborn
Oh darn. I wasn't going to do it this time. I wasn't going to lessen the impact of the book by reading the individual chapters. That lasted all the way until I saw this topic. I had to read it NOW. Loved the dialog but couldn't help some tears. Steris wants this marriage and she knew he really wasn't ready and feeling trapped. How did I totally miss that Wax and Lessie were actually married? How was she planning on explaining the part about being immortal to him?- 39 replies

Yes,there was not much to go on. I added the quotes/page from the book for each outfit I selected. Brandon is clearly not obsessed by dress. It is stated that Marasi's constable uniform is a white shirt with brown jacket and skirt. I'm also wondering if Steris may start being a little less strict in her clothing choices as she and Wax grow closer.

I haven't been able to understand the torture at all. It doesn't make any sense to me that it could be part of the oathpact unless someone did twist it after the deal was made. Is there anything more about this?
-
Non readers indeed. Why am I in this forum? I have nowhere else to find readers. I tried a local women's book club and there was no interest. I just can't get into those live, love, eat type of books and they wouldn't even consider epic fantasy as an option.
-
OK, I'm dying waiting for Bands of Mourning so I have amused myself by creating a Pintrest board for Steris and Marasi. I have searched out all the mentions of what they were wearing. I guess I should have expected this wasn't going to be like thre Steampunk novels written by women that describe the dresses in great detail so I had to wing it. Anyway, if any of you are interested or just bored here are the links. https://www.pinterest.com/goddessimho/steris/ https://www.pinterest.com/goddessimho/marasi/ It was sort of like playing paper dolls as I tried to dress them,. Yes, paper dolls, I really am that old.

Back a way in this topic people were wondering how a Kanda could carry extra spikes so they would be available for use. They would do it like MeLann did. She just popped open her breast and pulled out a weapon. Why couldn't Paalm do the same with extra spikes?

Parshendi + Gemheart? (WoR-Spoiler)
GoddessIMHO replied to Shaukan-son-Hasweth's topic in Stormlight Archive
The humans of the Cosmere are not earthlings. I don't think KR have gem hearts but we don't really know their internal structure is completely like ours. -
If you read through this topic you will find that everyone's reaction was pretty much shock and awe. And yeah, Steris.

Hi Dalia, I hope you will continue reading as the racist dynamic between the light eyes and dark eyes is a part of what the book is about. It is exploring how a chance of nature/breeding has lead one part of the society to consider itself above others. It is not just the light eyes that carry predjudice over this. As you get further in you start to learn more about how this limits them and some startling truth about it. Hair color is also used to determine some racial differences and of course there are also religious differences. This is not a utopia and the growth of the charaters is partly linked to how they deal with this. I have no idea how it will all play out but I can assure you this is not a series that will support this break in the society as a good thing.

Interesting. There are some things I think you either misstated or I misread. According to Harmony and Ten-Soon a Kandra needs 2 spikes to maintain sanity but only 1 spike to be sentient. A Kandra with 2 spikes can be controlled by Harmony so Bleeder has to remove a spike to be "free". It's still unclear if Harmony not being able to see the Trellium means she could wear 2 spikes and not be controlled or if a Trellium spike would would let her maintain sanity. You are certainly correct about us not really knowing what Harmony did when he pushed Bleeder too far or if he forced Lessie to die. I think we are being lead to think that but it isn't stated anywhere. Bleeder did some of her murders just to get Wax involved. The one that got me was Father Bin, he was the priest that Wax contacted to perform his marriage to Steris but she left other clues that pointed to him also. The whole Bloody Tan mystery is beyond me. I don't understand the clues if they are there. There is one last thing I wonder about. Wax loved and was in love with Lessie. What would his response have been if she had revealed herself as a Kandra and not a human while they were still ib the Roughs? His response on the bridge when she died would indicate he still loved her but that was during the severe shock of her 2nd death. That is not the same as having to face her as a Kandra when there is a tomorrow and he has to wake up and eat breakfast with her. Maybe that is what Harmony was going to force.

RE: Kaladin is not loving. I have to disagree on this one. I think we have seen over and over how much loving care Kaladin shows his men. In every battle before and after being a Bridgeman he has done everything in his power to save and care for the men he fights next to. Yes, he is a hopeless brooding mess half the time but he always returns to that core of taking care of others. I have this evil little thought of shipping him Jasnah. She could be his Dom and give that boy some disipline until he shapes up. He'd probably like it.

I have been thinking about how Adolin is a favored forum character but wasn't initially supposed to play a big role in the books. I remember reading something in this forum saying there was a WoB where he stated that once the story was being written the characters and the story took over and developed on their own. I wonder if maybe some of his appeal is that many of us may relate to a kid that was always trying to do the right thing and please his parents: Get the good grades, go to a good school, make something of yourself. And now after doing all that, Adolin finds himself alone with his world falling down around him.
