  1. Women in the United States military have to deploy even if they have children. Part of the military requirement is that they have care options already in place. Shallan is part of the nobility. As has been true throughout history, women of wealth do not have to live by the same rules as other women. I'm not saying it is a good thing for Shallan to have a child. I am saying that she would also have wet nurses, nannies and guards for any child she had. We have already seen that Evi left Renerin at home to follow Dalinar.
  2. Remember too that Dalinar said he is dropping the "high king" idea. Another of poor Elhokar's bad ideas. He will take the Radiants. He has given the High Prince position to Adolin. Granted, none of this actually removes Dalinar from a power position because he IS the power.
  3. I finally have a good link for the short YouTube video on why it is so hard to convince someone. Hint: facts don't matter.
  4. So was he the one wearing the red shirt?
  5. This makes her impervious to Larkins and still able to function when the other KR may be out due to lack of stormlight. This could be a critical advantage in a battle, if she has a food source.
  6. I love Adolin. I've been on medication for depression my ENTIRE adult life. People like Adolin are a gift as friends. They are the ones I want to be around. Kaladin and Shallan are better off for knowing him. Don't give me a bunch of noise about doing it ALL on your own: The people around you make a difference. Being around constant whiners and pessimists makes life so much harder. We are social animals, we want to be in a tribe. Which tribe makes a difference. Kaladin is the archetypal hero, at this point in the story Adolin is the "everyman". They are the new generation of the Alethi tribe and I feel that Adolin is the glue. All that being said, Adolin has spent his life having to be what his father decided he should be. He was cast into a role and forced to live it. Do you notice how often when he is referred to by others it's as "the son of the Blackthorn" and not his name? He lives in his father's shadow. But still his base nature is to pick up and do what needs to be done.
  7. OK, maybe this should be a new topic but it pertains here i think. The one year will be both sides building up their forces. We need hundreds of KR, our little handful will not be enough. There may be a prelude chapter with some relationship information in it since they will be at a different place in a year than they are at the end of OB. Or maybe not, perhaps that will just be blended into the story line. Yes, it will be Eshonai's book for the flash backs so that makes me think it will be Venli she is talking about and how it all came to be. However, Shallan is a main character so I still expect her to have whatever crisis of truth she needs to reach the 5th level. I don't believe that will be about her marriage but either something still from the past or Ghostblood related.
  8. Adolin is often remembering the forgotten and listening. He spends too much time on some unimportant things like fashion which is an Edgedancer fault. Taking time to visit Galant when Dalinar has no time for him. Being a little broken from losing Sureblood. Still remembering the soldiers who died at the tower when Sadeas betrayed Dalinar. He treats the dark eyes with respect even though he is a prince of the light eyes. In TC he goes to help the common soldiers who have been left on their own. He can practically glide through a fight already.
  9. Just a point about what Adolin wanted; he wanted to be a duelist, not a soldier. Duels do not normally go to the death. Due to Sadeas however even this began to change. I felt there were many of Adolin's thoughts about killing Sadeas. He wasn't overcome by what he had done because he felt this was the only way to save his family and friends. I suspect a soldier who has killed in battle many times doesn't have the same gut response as someone who has never killed. He wasn't agonizing he was contemplating.
  10. If Brandon wrote erotica, I'd love a menage with Kaladin and Adolin being lovers of each other and Shallan. However, he wouldn't write that and many readers would probably freak out. The ancient Greeks had both wives and battle buddies though, so it isn't out of the realm of human relationships. I would guess it wasn't uncommon in a lot of societies where men spent years away at war.
  11. The scene on the wall when the hole is letting in the troops. Adolin is giving orders about what everyone needs to do to prevent this. Suddenly there is a big noise and Jasnah completely repairs the wall in one swoop of her hand. Adolin looks at the wall, then "OK, new plan".
  12. I have a Pinocchio feeling about Syl as a love interest. "You can be a REAL girl if you can be Kaladin's love interest".
  13. He was immediately happy that finding a mate was taken care of by Jasnah. He wasn't happy about all the failure he had faced in relationships. From all indications he never looked at anyone else after they met. Of course, everyone was pretty busy what with gem runs and duels and fighting each other.
  14. I just hate the idea of that horrible oathpact just eating new people's souls. I want it gone and Odium just plain defeated by maybe being joined into another shard but subservient to it. We don't want to get rid of Passion we just need to control it. The hate thing definitely needs control. I think a romantic relationship with Syl is creepy. Brandon already has a lot of characters so introducing new one just keeps making things more complicated. He could bring back Tarah by maybe having B4 rescue her during a battle with the Voidbringers, or she comes to Urithuru with other refugees or she turns out to be a proto Radiant. They're going to need a TON of new Radiants so why not folks we already know.
  15. Toral Sadeas shared a chair with his WIFE and let her eat MEN'S food. He was a feminist of the highest nature.
  16. I think the very fact that most of Alethi "society" is now a slave class will have a very significant effect on how much change there is. Perhaps there will be underground Vorin religious groups that are fanatical and certainly light eyes will try to stay "in charge" within the slave class itself, however, they will also have to work with dark eyes side by side eventually. Alethi Parshmen and women seem to live within the Vorin confines and self identify as Alethi. I don't know how that will play into all of this. The Vorin hierarchy is pretty much in just Jah Keved now and that is controlled by Mr T. They pretty much abhor Dalinar and Jasnah. There is going to be an explosion of some sort around all this even though it seems the regular folks took well to Dalinar's visit. In Urithiru I think the royals and the Radiants may spark a lot of change. Is Jasnah the first Queen ever? Will Adolin's PDA with Shallan affect how others act with loved ones? Will Shallan wearing pants and just a glove instead of a Hava change styles? As previously mentioned we now have women with shard blades and a prominent man learning to read and write. Dalinar's marriage is another tradition breaker. The Kholen's in general treat dark eyes as equals. There are no tame Parshmen and now a lot of people are having to do types of work they never did before and someone has to pay them. In the battle with the night essence Shallan mentions being ashamed because her hand was out and all the soldiers saw it. No one said anything. If someone is keeping a monster from destroying you a dress code seems of little importance. I'm all over the place here because it seems there are forces pushing both ways in Roshar.
  17. I think we need to know more about the Cryptics before we can make too many theories. They seem to be different from the other spren. The other spren don't like or trust them and that seems something that Pattern is proud about. They are famous! Pattern doesn't seem as afraid of dying as Syl. The Honor spren live together in a city which may explain WR attracting spren who want to bond other WR. But Shallan was drawing multiple Cryptics at one point too. Coppermind doesn't have much to say either.
  18. Would it have made a difference to anyone if instead of Adolin giving her the support and stabilizing 'love' that she desired and never had if it had been say , Navani, as a mother figure? Using that to remove the male/female dynamic that seems to so irritate/enrage some of you.
  19. Accepting the pain is the whole issue. I'd guess she will have a "Dalinar type" moment where Odium offers her the out of taking her pain on himself. Will she be the one that falls to Odium? Only Brandon knows and I bet he says RAFO. Of course, one of her issues is that she can truly make those other personalities physically real and visible to others. I think that "enables" her splits even more. That is what happened when she totally lost it and cycled through hundreds of faces and couldn't stop. She scared the neighbors. I believe that she is stable as she can be at the moment with Veil and Radiant still there but under control. She will be "healed" when their traits are just a part of the base Shallan and she has no need to use them in order to fight with a blade or drink and joke with her soldiers (Just to a name a couple).
  20. Here is one of the places where we learn more about the relationship. I was rereading and found the sentence where Shallan says she has to tell Adolin about the Ghostbloods. It's where she and Dalinar are making a map and has her set all the parts conquered by Odium in gold. I can't figure out how to cut and paste from the Kindle cloud reader. She says it would be a relief to have someone she could talk to about it. She supports Adolin in not wanting to be king. Adolin keeps looking back at her as he argues it with Dalinar. He is using HER for support. It is not one sided. And Adolin is scandalizing the Alethi with PDA.
  21. We LOVES our precious.
  22. Ah, you're right. I just went back to look. Dalinar is just back from the wedding feast.
  23. I personally find this idea terrible (I love Shallan and Adolin) together: but we don't see a wedding, we only see a wedding about to happen. They could be attacked by Voidbringers, the Ghostbloods could pull Shallan at the last minute, any number of disasters could happen, this could be the prelude in the next book
  24. Why should we think that Shallan is done with her growth just because she married? She is taking control as Wit advised but still not completely by a long shot. Kaladin is still working on his issues here in book 3, why won't Shallan still be working on hers in book 4? Dalinar, I'm sure, will still have issues too. The thing that is clear to me is that each of us reads the same words but makes vastly different conclusions. I didn't like the triangle either but I'm happy with the outcome. I'm sure that it was supposed to create the drama of her choice. People do find themselves attracted some times to more than one person. they then have to make a choice. I think Shallan finally made hers on the wall in TC when she took control of Veil and just waved at Kaladin and walked away. That was very deliberate.
  25. Yes, I think Adolin "sees" the base Shallan and the others. He knows which one is current. You can argue that as good or bad but he does know.
