[Theory] Neuroatypical issues and the Nahel bond
Charononus replied to Rakei's topic in Stormlight Archive
Ok I think that this is where we have the problem then. For one I do believe that something bad happened to Jasnah based on chapter 36 of WoK where rape is mentioned repeated and then this section happens. Now is this confirmed, no. However I trust Shallan's reading of people, and while it may not have been rape it was something "bad". Now where I think the problem is, is that you make the assumption that this event, if it happened is the reason for all of Jasnah's life choices. No other possibility exists to you, and that ignores a great deal of how resilient people really are. Would it have hurt Jasnah, absolutely. Would the term broken apply to her, absolutely. Does it mean that all of her life choices have been made for this and could not have been for any other reason, no, absolutely not. As far as this goes, I just want to toss in some of what I know. Autism, has at least some genetic components, but it isn't genetics alone. Schizophrenia has at least some links to a parasite, and many others are thought to have epigenetic components, which means that the the traits are turned on by things in the environment, not from pure heredity. To common language usage, this means that these traits are not genetic, even though dna plays a factor. Now having said that. I don't think the mental condition is the reason for the bond, but something that may facilitate experiences that lead to the creation of a bond (Renarin) or be consequences of the experiences (Kaladin and Shallan). The only condition that can't be explained by this idea is Kaladin's seasonal affective disorder. Which to me was just part of flushing out Kaladin, making him a whole person in the novel rather than someone that was flatter.- 67 replies

I'm going to have to double check that then. I would have sworn otherwise.

The fight scenes drove me nuts. They were so badly done imo. That was my only real dislike, but I'm easy to please with tv shows.

[Theory] Neuroatypical issues and the Nahel bond
Charononus replied to Rakei's topic in Stormlight Archive
Here's my problem. Why do you assume someone that at one point was broken, that had something horrible happen to them loses all agency and can do nothing more to ever help themselves or anyone else? Kaladin and Shallan are our best examples for the moment. Both of them were horrible broken. Yet as they move thru their story, the thing that seems to advance them as radiants is learning how to heal from it. Humans don't break like a piece of pottery. We break, but we also heal and hopefully learn. Your theory seems to me to reject that.- 67 replies

I don't think so. It's not a natural process, because if it was you wouldn't have the ending of WoR

Though I imagine most of Alethkar wants to punch Wit.

Just want to chime in that in HoA Sazed says that most soothers become savants eventually. Which means that Breeze probably was a savant.

*Shadows of Self Spoilers* Anyone Else Think Harmony is Messed up?
Charononus replied to mattig89ch's topic in Mistborn
Nothing concrete to add, just a gut feeling that there is something else that we don't know yet. There is a quote from the first trilogy, "There's always another secret." -
I actually tried to go back and edit it to one post as I didn't see the second post till afterward. Unfortunately I couldn't get the second quote into the edited post and have it look right. It wouldn't actually quote. So I tried......

I disagree. Lots of social interactions fall apart without lies. How do you comfort the dying person without lies, that it's all going to be ok? How do you smooth something over by apologizing, when you view yourself to have not been in the wrong? This doesn't even get into small talk of "hi how are you?", "I'm fine and you?"

I think the thing to remember with it, is the polygraph was invented in 1921. With compounded senses and allomantic tin, TLR could probably get all the same data points thru his senses, if he wanted to. That means he's had 1000 years of practice at it, where as we've had less than 100 with the polygraph. Combine that with provoking the emotional state he wants with allomancy, I have no problem believe he's better at detecting a lie than our current polygraph tech, excluding perhaps fmri based lie detection.

Where's WalDo: The Kandra Worldhopper
Charononus replied to Kobold King's topic in Cosmere Discussion
5 bucks says that WalDo when revealed at some point, will make us all go, "well, I didn't see that coming." -
Yes and no. According to Sazed I believe. The body of a god is the power of a god, and atium (or any other god metal) is just condensed power of the god. So in this Stormlight could be considered to be the body of a god.

Nothing too bad, just answers this poster.

Where's WalDo: The Kandra Worldhopper
Charononus replied to Kobold King's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I can't disprove this, yet it doesn't feel right to me. Too much of Rocks idiosyncrasies are related to the Horneaters and world building by giving information about them. -
If that's the case, it's another reason I badly wish I could use copper feruchemy. I can't count the number times I've run into someone and they've known my name and I've been "yeah, hi, how are you, it's been so long since...., .... ...."

When did Shallan break(WOR spoilers)
Charononus replied to KnightGradient's topic in Stormlight Archive
The bond doesn't work that way for the Lightweavers is my understanding. They don't need oaths, they need truths. I agree Shallan is from a very broken home. That's where the main break is. That probably attracted pattern to her at a young age. At that point the Journey before destination oath, assuming it doesn't need exact words, isn't very difficult. It's just a morality system of the ends don't justify the means. Many people can reach that, and if she had to grow up fast ..... Combine that with just needing truths for the rest and I think we have a pretty full explanation. -
I'd guess that they'd need to hack it. Probably wouldn't be a hard hack though. Draw an aon on each section of plate where a gem would otherwise go. As for what aon, I'd guess it'd either be Are or Daa.

Ask Trell and he shall answer. =P Sorry had to.

Honestly it's be even easier to do to a Kandra. Shatter their bones so that they can't move. (This was mostly done to OreSeur before TenSoon even got to him.) Now their helpless. We know from OreSeur's comments to Vin that Kandra do feel pain from being cut or stabbed. However this can't kill them. So you can torture them as much as you want. You won't kill them. They have no bones so they can't fight back. You just have to toss them a skull so that they can answer your questions, but they can't fight back with a skull alone so you are still in good shape.

You know, I was just thinking about this and it's amazing how many super heroes could be created in this method. Daredevil = double tin Flash = double steel etc etc The combo I'd love to see though is something like pewter and an ironmind. I think you could end up with someone like the Juggernaut.

Ruin gave inquisitors of his tier a protective plate over the connector spike. So she would actually have to pull both eye spikes or behead him. With inquisitor sensory input, surprising him to where he can't react and tap speed himself before that happens seems like it would be very very difficult.
