@PhineasGage, reading your posts I think there is an important requirement you seem to be missing for the bond. The spren has to want to bond. It's not like Allomancy where Snapping suddenly gives you powers. The thing giving powers is a sentient being who also needs to want a bond. That's why there were no Windrunners for 2000 years after the Recreance. It's not that no one was broken and lived the ideals, but no spren were willing to defy the Stormfather and initiate a bond. That's why Teft only just now bonded. Honorspren are just now willing to form the bond. The same could be true for Adolin. He could meet every other requirement for a nahel bond, but if a spren doesn't want to form one with him for some reason, then he won't become a KR.

[OB] Torol Sadeas Appreciation Thread
thegatorgirl00 replied to PhineasGage's topic in Stormlight Archive
Some people claim Our Esteemed Leader Torol Sedess was tearing this country apart. That is lying propaganda meant to blemish His Honorable Name. Sadeas knew that only through conflict would we be strong enough to withstand the coming chaos. The Alethi have always known that fighting leads to strength, and Sadeas was a true Alethi man to the end. As others have said, the conflict he created led to the formation of the new Knights Radiant. Yes, he would. Our fighting will only make us stronger. We will need that strength to survive the chaos his death caused. -

[OB] 2 Theories, Renarin and Alethi.

But it doesn't happen in modern times. I think people wouldn't have stopped if they were found. -
[OB] 2 Theories, Renarin and Alethi.

We don't know how large the Parshendi gemhearts are. Venli states that humans used to dissect them looking for gemhearts but never found anything, indicating they are likely small and unobtrusive. We also need to look at the relative size of a Chasmfiend's gemheart compared to its body. I'm not sure of the exact measurements, but I think gemhearts are smaller than a heart would have to be to pump blood. I think you could have a gem that small. Most gems on earth are pretty small. We've only seen big ones, but I expect there are lots of small gems we haven't heard of or seen. Disclaimer:I am not even close to being an expert on biology or gem sizes, so I could be totally wrong. -
The more I think about this, the more likely it seems the spren got things wrong. Entire civilizations were nearly destroyed, with mostly children surviving. It seems unlikely the survivors would get everything right. The main issue with this is that the Stormfather and highspren should have some idea of the truth. Although neither party seems willing to talk about the Recreance, and there are a lot of things that could've happened that they would want to hide. If, for example, a lot of spren ended up agreeing that the Recreance was necessary, they would both want to protect other spren by not spreading that knowledge.

Lift does have her unique gifts from the Nightwatcher which were a large part of why she was chosen by the Cultivationspren. Even if they did look at more of Roshar than just Iri, I think she would have been chosen anyways due to the Nightwatcher's blessing. And Cultivationspren seem like they would care a lot less about bonding to someone in a position of importance than other spren. They seem to care more about the little people than influencing major world events. Even if they did look at Adolin, I think everything would have combined to make them choose Lift anyways.

Ym was not actually an Edgedancer, @PhineasGage. Wyndle mentioned him as a potential candidate, but he was actually a Truthwatcher. Source

Nine orders broke their oaths, and one of those, the Bondsmiths, didn't have blades. So one about one eighth of the blades should be ED. I don't think a 12.5% chance he would get an ED blade is unlikely. If we look at blades he could maybe match the order for, as @PhineasGage said, that probability goes up to 37.5%. Not unreasonable at all.

I'm not sure what you're suggesting here. I agree that Shallan was at a further state when she was younger; although getting a Shardblade can vary by order, I doubt any would give it after the first ideal. I also agree that she almost broke her bond because her memory regressed. I think she had to say the truths again to strengthen the bond, not just remember she had the bond and Pattern.

The truths were 'I am afraid' 'I killed my father' and 'I killed my mother'. There are also some hints that Shallan actually did summon Shardplate during the last battle and didn't realize/intend it. And then after the battle

[OB] Odium is not the Shard of Hate
thegatorgirl00 replied to heridfel's topic in Stormlight Archive
One thing I find particularly interesting about Odium's Intent is the existence of Ashertmarn. Rather than embodying any of the traditional ideas of hatred, it is instead the ultimate portrayal of gluttony. This, to me, indicates there is more to Odium than we think. Brandon has said that the intent can change based on how the holder interpreted ot. Ati interpreted Ruin in the least destructive way possible. I think Rayse interpreted Odium in the most destructive way possible, in the way @Subvisual Haze said.- 24 replies

Because there is a small number of Coppermind editors and a large number of things to do on the wiki, so sometimes things don't get updated right away. We always welcome new editors, if you want to come help out. To support your point, Maya screams when Adolin tries to summon her while they are in Shadesmar, but not at any other point they are there.

[OB] Poll: Which news will the coalition take worse?
thegatorgirl00 replied to WhiteLeeopard's topic in Stormlight Archive
Overall, I think the news about the Skybreakers, just because of the immediate 'we're doomed' reaction that will cause. It will, however, depend partially on the person. Jasnah, for example, will probably react most strongly to the news of Jezrien because of its implications. -
I don't think that's how it works. The Nahel bond is when two souls--one spren, one human--becoming one through understanding and living various Ideals. No matter how the process starts, the end result iand abilities granted s the same. That is very fun to think about, though.
-
I guess the question is whether or not spirit web injuries can be healed on their own. I've always thought no. The spirit web has been described as the perfect or ideal version of something, and I think once something happens to break that perfection, you can never fully go back to how you were before. The trauma will always be a part of you in some way. We don't know much about the spirit realm though, so I could be wrong. Interesting. The Nahel bond is the mixing of two souls, and you need cracks as an entryway to start that process. I wonder if having a chunk missing on the spren's side would work as an entryway, so the mixing would start when a person's soul fills in that spot.

[OB] Favourite OB moment / Character ?
thegatorgirl00 replied to Stromblessed's topic in Stormlight Archive
I really enjoyed Hoid this book. Especially in the epilogue. In previous books I've found him mildly interesting due to his amusing comments and Cosmere knowledge, but I felt like this was the first time I really cared about him as a person. Also, Timbre. Trapping voidspren inside a gemheart to fool Fused so they don't know you bonded to the Listener. Enough said. -
I think there's evidence it takes a lot less to be broken than we think. First, Teft and his spren have this conversation. Earlier, Renarin showed Adolin an image of himself I think the fact that Adolin isn't this perfect version of himself means he has some spiritweb cracks.

theory [OB] Unsurprisingly, Feather wants to talk Renarin
thegatorgirl00 replied to FeatherWriter's topic in Stormlight Archive
I decided to post this here because it has to do with Renarin. I believe he has the ability to see into the Spiritual realm, more than just his visions. The evidence I have for this is the scene where he heals Adolin. The vision is described like this. Later, Nohadon tells Dalinar about the three realms. The description of the perfect you that exists in the spiritual realm seems very similar to what Renarin shows Adolin. As the bond strengthens, bel might be able to control his glimpses into the spiritual realm more. As for where this comes from, I'm not sure. Lightweaving is said to have a powerful Spiritual component in the Ars Arcanum, so it might come partly from that.- 86 replies

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
thegatorgirl00 replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
When you show your friend a countdown on your phone to Oathbringer's release, and he says he remembers seeing it last year when you showed him after first creating it when the release date was announced. When you constantly look at your phone's countdown to see how much time is left today and…there's only a single digit number of hours left until OB is released! -

You think to yourself "Oh no! I wanted to do a Stormlight reread before Oathbringer came out, but I got so distracted adding Arcanum stuff to the Coppermind I don't have enough time anymore." -
I found a tweet from Peter that is not in Arcanum. https://mobile.twitter.com/BrandSanderson/status/595027918159413249
