[OB] Timeline clarification wanted from WoR:74 to OB:27
Govir replied to JoyBlu's topic in Stormlight Archive
According to @jofwu's timeline*, Kaladin and Shallan survive the Highstorm on Day 4 of Week 8 of Moth 10 of year 1173 (aka 1173.10.8.4). The last event I have on my copy of the timeline is 1174.1.4.1 (arrival of Mr. T). Also from the timeline: So with that, it seems to be more than 27 days, but probably not much more. *I'm working off a copy of it, so he may have updated to the exact dates. And my work seems to block and unblock google docs every other day, so I can't check today. Here's his post about his timeline though: -
When you get your copy, you can do this yourself.

So since this will be digital only, would you say that it's Arcanum...Unbounded?

[OB] We need to talk about Shallans drawings...

Are you my mummy? -
Welcome to the environment Sanderson has created. He's got us trained to jump at shadows and try to go down anything that even looks like a rabbit hole. And I love it, because I'm almost never right.

Something has always bothered me about Dalinar and the Nightwatcher: when did Dalinar visit the Nightwatcher? The way it is spoken of is that there's a specific place that you have to go, and it's not a short trip. When would Dalinar have had the time to do that, and in such a way that no one seems to know about it (or at least, no one ever brings it up). EDIT: Actually, isn't there talk of Dalinar having to do penance / a fine to the Vorin church for having visited the Nightwatcher? Or was that just a general thing that was mentioned?

There goes my aluminum foil hat theory about why Dalinar might want to suppress memories of his wife! (Just a few more weeks now, and we might find out why)

Basically the S is silent, and it's pronounced like Zeth (i.e. Seth, but with a Z). This is from listening to the Audible Audio Book.

Reading through another thread and someone asked why they're called Dustbringers. I think it's because,

[OB] There's something royal 'bout them locks...

Not sure exactly how to do spoilers, but this is for Warbreaker. Granted, I don't think it's true. But if Evi is Vivenna, then maybe. -
[OB] What is up with Mraize and Ialai?
Govir replied to Toaster Retribution's topic in Stormlight Archive
Clearly Mraize is Ned. And survived being dropped from a cliff. -
Yeah, that was my thought as well. Gave me a fleeting idea that maybe it's the Parshmen that lose their civilization each desolation and are the ones that need to be taught up from the beginning.

[OB] The Highstorms are returning, and Is Ialai a ghostblood
Govir replied to Steeldancer's topic in Stormlight Archive
I really want Mraize to have another name. Gives a "false" name here, because that's what he's known to Ialai as Adolin recognizes him, and is surprised to see him there (i.e. not as Mraize) -
What? I think that makes perfect sense, although it did take me a minute to come to the same conclusion. It was still bad, and not really funny, but it made sense.

I got the impression more that Gavilar just wanted power and a kingdom that endured. He wanted the powers of the Radiants to be returned to humans and doesn't care who or how many have to die to do that. I read this as "...for your gods once brought our gods. Without them [our gods], we have no power." And on an unrelated note: I think Gavilar and Dalinar see the same visions, but they are interpreted differently. It should be noted that the Visions are not just the recordings of Honor talking, they also include an improve phase where a real conversation can be had with the other people. Gavilar may have gone down different conversational paths than Dalinar and thus received different information. EDIT: @hypatia confirms same visions via WoB two posts up: http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/60631-oathbringer-prologue-now-on-torcom/?page=3#comment-599400

I thought the urchin was a bit weird too. Specifically the fact that the last thing she says is in "normal" speech, and happens to align with the oath Lift should say. If it's just foreshadowing, then it seemed a bit sloppy in my opinion.

So if Nale really thought that the bonding of spren could bring about the return of the Desolations...why is he training people to become Skybreakers? People who have clearly bonded with a spren since they can "fly"...unless both people had Honorblades, but that is unlikely; especially ones that allow them to "fly".

This should be it. There's only about a week until the release date. Additionally there were only 6 preview chapters for SoS. I also remember a post over on Reddit saying it would be chapters 1-6 (can't find it now).

I don't think this will be specific to accounting. I think it's further emphasizing Steris's ability / tendency to take in every detail and think of it. Perhaps even an ability to notice differences between two things that are supposed to be the same, like maybe something written in metal vs something written on paper...

Yep, that jumped out at me as well. I'm thinking it may be something specific to Mistborn, or at least Pewterarms. Or as someone else pointed out, he may have gotten a spike that gave him Feruchemic Gold...but I find that less believable based on what we know of the character. It is true that he wrote the book on Hemalurgy, but I think that was more to preserve the knowledge so future generations would know about it (i.e. know the enemy). Based on Spook's history of being spiked, I doubt he'd want to be spiked again, or that he'd kill to get the power.

I like the idea that the reason people need to die is because the Divine Breath is too large to be stapled onto their spiritweb. Is it possible that it works the other way around, i.e. the normal spiritweb is attached to the Divine Breath? This could be why the Returned don't remember their former lives, because their spiritweb is dominated by the Divine Breath. I'm not sure how this interacts with the Returned who aren't "Gods" but I don't really remember much talk of their lives before their Return. And this is where I admit that the magic system in Warbreaker is the one I understand the least and I'm about 3/4 of the way through a reread, so take this with a grain of salt.
