  1. I think a A-Cadmium/A-Bendalloy and F-Steel would be interesting. Bendalloy, they either go at the same speed when storing, or become the Flash in their bubble when tapping. Cadmium, they move the same speed when tapping.
  2. Spoiler for size. Sanderson has admitted to forming an army of either robots or clones that write books for him.
  3. I think it may also be because FormlessFox was drunk. I personally would not be inclined to read a book recommended by a drunk guy, no matter how awesome their summary.
  4. Believe me, I considered all of these. I struck down atium being Ruin's metal because 1: it wasn't one of the 16 metals, and 2: that would be too easy. Pushing and Pulling on metals can preserve you, as is demonstrated when Kelsier goes totally beast with Pushes and Pulls. I thought very hard on the Shard's intent, but what would Honor have to do with any of the metals? I did have your thought about Nicrosil, as well, but was focusing more on the background influence of the Investiture where possible. Feruchemy is different. It is based Realmatically, with Physical, Mental, and Spiritual metals, as opposed to Allomancy's four (mostly similar) quadrants of Physical, Mental, Temporal, and Enhancement. I have a bit of a theory that the Feruchemical Realm the metal influences depends on the corresponding Shard's main realm of influence, but I don't have enough connections to attempt this yet. Hemalurgy is just stealing various attributes, no possible Shardic connection there that I can see. With the number of metals, yes it is because Preservation's number is 16, but I don't see why it can't be representative of the 16 Shards as well.
  5. Welcome! I think that a quote from Hoid: Sanderson loves putting questions like these in his books. His books, on one level, are meant to entertain. On another level, they are the stories that Hoid speaks of, giving us questions to think upon.
  6. I'd like to point out that dinosaurs had no giant shell, which is likely quite heavy. They do require some sort of assistance to move, or else they would be crushed by their own weight.
  7. In a WoB, someone asked Sanderson if the Ten Essences on Roshar are linked to the Ten Shardworlds, and he replied with a vague answer. It's not important for this thread. However, is there something similar with the 16 Allomantic metals? I realize I am opening a can of worms, or giving an open can of worms somewhere to dump its worms, but it's something I have been thinking about since I learned there were 16 Allomantic metals and 16 Shards. Basically, I recognized that various magic systems often have secondary effects. Stormlight, for example, grants the Surgebinder increased strength, speed, and general physical abilities, similar to Pewter, as well as the ability to manipulate Surges. It would be logical, if this were to be true, that Honor's opposite Shard would grant enhanced senses of some such. So, here is a tentative list of known Shards and their possible Allomantic metal equivalents. Honor: Basically mentioned earlier. Pewter heals (though not terribly quickly, relative to gold Feruchemy or actual Stormlight), grants increased physical abilities, and allows greater physical endurance. Cultivation: I don't know enough about Cultivation's magic system to make any guesses. Odium: Again with not enough info. Endowment: At first glance, it would seem that Endowment would be Tin, as it grants perfect pitch, greater perception of colors, etc. However, with even one Breath, you are able to detect other people with Breaths, with more Breaths granting greater ability to detect Breath. More importantly, Drabs are undetectable with the life sense. All this indicates the metal equivalent is Bronze. Autonomy: Disclamer: these are my views. They may be wrong. Also, I haven't read White Sand, so try not to spoil anything. I am assuming the metal that (SoS spoilers) is the metal of Autonomy. If it's from a different Shard, I amend my statement to whichever Shard it is. The only thing I can get is that using the Metal prevents This indicates that it is probably Copper, the hiding metal. For those of you who won't open the spoiler tags and those who disagree with any part of this, I'm sorry for this part. It could also be the mysterious Survival Shard, in fact I'm almost certain it is, but most people think it is Autonomy. Preservation: This is the part where my theory takes on a bit of stretching of imagination. As far as I can tell, all or almost all of the Allomantic metals have the potential to be used to help preserve you. Maybe Cadmium, which slows down time, more or less preserving anything inside the bubble. Ruin: Bendalloy, because anything inside the bubble has time go faster, ruining it to some extent. It's weak, I know, but it's all I got. Devotion: I have almost nothing, but maybe it's Zinc, since Devotion is arguably about focusing on what you love, and emphasizing it. Dominion: Since it's about dominance, maybe the metal TLR used to keep the skaa of Luthadel submissive, Brass, the Soothing metal. Those are all of the Shards I know of. If anybody disagrees with my theory, any of my classifications, or anything else about this, or has anything to add, I am glad to discuss it.
  8. I think Autonomy-Endowment are a pair. Autonomy is all about fending for yourself, doing it by yourself. Endowment is all about giving and getting support.
  9. Apparantly, Stormlight can heal what you think it can heal. If you think it can heal anything, it can. If you think it can heal anything but a Shardblade wound, then if you were in Kaladin's situation, the arm wouldn't come back. It can probably always heal relatively minor wounds, though.
  10. This isn't Cosmere, but drawing a Line of Silencing in a duel with someone else, or even in a duel at all.
  11. I'm simply saying that Devotion and Dominion are opposites, not quite like Preservation and Ruin, but similar.
  12. Basically with immortality in the Cosmere, Shardholders are immortal as long as the hold the Shard (though they can be killed), and one becomes a Shardholder by having an incredibly large amount of Investiture in them. If someone has enough Investiture, then, you could theoretically gain Immorality via any source of Investiture in the Cosmere. However, only with Breath have we seen this take effect. The kandra are Invested via Hemalurgic spike, but the natural Investiture they contained in the form of Feruchemy was turned into Investiture able to grant immortality.
  13. Devotion is encouraging, supporting, lifting people up. Dominion is about suppressing people, forcing them down. Love is not the opposite of hate, in one part of TFE, they address something like that, basically saying that betrayal or hatred towards someone while loving them hurts more than if you didn't. That might not make sense, but love and hate aren't opposites.
  14. When every morning, you go to school, go to a predetermined location, and discuss Realmatic Theory with another Sanderfan.
  15. That makes a lot more sense. What do they do with the Stormlight, though? Cultivation's magic system, perhaps? (I'm thinking Surgebinding is Honor, maybe the larkins are Cultivation's, and fabrials are the combination)
  16. On that note, nice first topic! It was shot down, but so are most of them.
  17. They looked more like serpents than chasmfiends.
  18. Maybe write a ketek. You know, the poem that reads the same forwards and backwards. example: "Is it crazy how saying sentences backwards creates backwards sentences saying how crazy it is?" I did not make that. Thank the internet.
  19. But what is Harmony's foresight like? Is it the sum of the two Shards' abilities, or the average?
  20. On the subject of Steris. Wax leans towards Ruin, and Steris leans towards Preservation. Together, they have Harmony. You may now shoot me for my almost cliche analogy.
  21. I have had lots of ideas about what they could do. Turn into a parasite, go into someone, and eat them from the inside, keep mulitple sets of bones inside of them at all times to quickly change shapes, lots of stuff. They could have two hearts.
  22. What are skyeels? In a WoB I tried and failed to find, Sanderson says the dragon-looking things on the Surgebinding chart are something we've seen before. My guess: Skyeels. So what do we know about them? Are they spren? Can people eat them? I think they may possibly be able to do something like the Listeners do, shifting form, given the pictures on the Surgebinding chart don't look much like skyeels, at least the heads.
  23. *Lift finishes off the food as Jasnah talks* "You should listen to her" Wyndle chided. "Whatever," Lift said, "I stopped listening after she said that you weren't a Voidbringer, you were a spren." "I am!" "And then she said you could become a Shardblade." "I can!" "Whatever." Lift inhales some Stormlight and slides away.
  24. You can trust absolutely nobody 100% of the time. You can trust individuals varying percentages of the time, but everyone has a situation where they will not be there when you need them, or will expose something told in confidence, or some such thing. Often, the reason will be 'It's for your own good,' but that isn't complete trust. On that happy philosophical note, I would like the ability to draw Rithmatic lines perfectly (straight Lines of Forbiddance, etc.), as well as express any picture I form in my head in any medium I choose (i.e. chalklings)
  25. As a Windrunner, carefully use Adhesion to walk up a wall Spiderman-style. It would be useless because they can simply walk on the wall instead of crawling Also, and this might be a bit debatable, making a bendalloy bubble around yourself while online. You get terrible connection, and a page takes about five minutes to load.
