  1. I do not have the information necessary to say that Connection to location, when tapped, allows you to speak the native language regardless of Identity status. I will say, though, that I don't believe that it is probable that the translation effect only occurs when Identity is at zero.
  2. How, then, do you explain Hoid's ability to speak Alethi, Arelish, etc. flawlessly?
  3. I currently have a theory—and ever-growing evidence to support it—that the Shards have a very close connection to the Allomantic metals. I currently think that Autonomy corresponds to one of the Enhancement metals, specifically either aluminum or chromium. I reach this conclusion after learning how Sand Masters fight each other. They touch the ends of their ribbons to their opponent's ribbons, causing them to turn black, their Investiture, such as it was at the time, spent. This is, in my opinion, almost identical to the effects of chromium or aluminum. Yes, they can do significant damage with these ribbons, but the Allomantic connection, in my observation, tends to be a secondary effect. I realize that this is possibly a piece of the story that may be cut out or altered. Until this happens, I'm just going to go with it. If you don't want to go with it, that's fine. Just don't post here.

    Skycolors

That's what I thought. Apparently, though, Darkside has a star, it's just small and produces a weird light.
  5. I say as much in another thread (I don't know how to link on my tablet), but there is a a Connection between you and your homeland, or where you have spent a lot of your time. This is one of the major parts in allowing Selish magic to work. Connection to a planet is one piece of this, and I think it is a type of Connection which Shards are more limited by. Since Preservation and Ruin created Scadrial from scratch, those Shards—and, by association, their holders—are almost inseparably Connected to that planet, more than perhaps any other Shards. When Sazed took these Shards, he got their power, but he also got their planetary Connection.
  6. I never said it was the whole of the Spiritweb. I thought it might be, but I was EXTREMELY uncertain about it. I was, prior to reading the WoB, decently confident that Connection was at least part of the Spiritweb. Connection, I noticed, does in fact extend to time. The Connection to a Shard... Maybe that's the definition of Investiture? Keep in mind that this post (not necessarily this topic) is basically me thinking in words. I'm not sure if Connection to a Shard and that Shard's Investment (state of being given Investiture or having the potential to do i.e. Mistborn/Mistings, Radiants, etc.) are the same thing, but at the very least, they are connected.
  7. This is an interesting view I had not considered. And here I thought I had figured out everything in Realmatic Theory except Feruchemical Fortune, Identity, and aluminum. Obviously, I'm wrong.
  8. Perhaps fortune? We don't know how that works at ALL.
  9. Kelsier was Connected to Preservation. Just not a whole lot. This theory is not 100% correct, as in the case of Connection necessarily leading to the powers. Shallan must act honorable in some sense of the word, or else she would be as powerful as a sleeping chull. I'm not sure what makes lying honorable, but that's a topic for another discussion. For what is disputable, I don't believe that the process of creating a crack for Radiantism to come in is the same as Allomantic Snapping. I.e. it is a similar, but very different, process. Snapping is designed so that you want, more than anything at that moment, for your own preservation. The process of becoming a Knight is much more scarring emotionally, as you generally have to loose what is most important to you and then, in that darkness, look to one of Honor's ten sub-Intents as all that is left worth continuing for. Kaladin chose protection, Shallan chose concealment, or distraction, or something.
  10. 1. Not necessarily, I agree. However, gaining access to the Shard's magic system is usually impossible without the connection. 2. Your point is one of debate, but to avoid it, I'll just say that Vin was only able to take in the mists when she wanted to be preserved. With Connection and my focus on it, the basic principle comes from storing Connection in duralumin, as well as some significant details about connection in Secret History.
  11. Perhaps using chromium or nicrosil could wipe out Kaladin's Radiant powers. I don't know if it works like this, though.
  12. Lash yourself into the sun. Completely useless.
  13. The Spiritual Realm has been described as a place with many lines, everyone made of these threads forming their Spiritweb. I have been trying, and I believe I have been successful, in identifying what kinds of lines exist. These lines, I believe, are Connection. 1) Person to person This is the most common type of Connection, connecting people by their friendships and relationships. This is what allows Shai to use Forgery on the Emperor's close associate, and have it act like it was the Emperor. Fairly mundane, as Connection goes. 2) Person to location This is a type of Connection formed by where someone is from or where they have spent a lot of time. This is likely what binds Shards to their planets, as well as the Connection implemented by (BoM spoilers) It is also by this Connection that Elantrians, Forgers, and probably Dakhor Monks are able to get their respective powers, location Connection being more important there. 3) Person to Shard This is probably one of the most important as far as Connection goes. This form of Connection is formed by adhering more to a Shard's Intent, which often leads to access to that Shard's magic system. Mistings and Mistborn want to be preserved in the moment they Snap, Knights gain more power as they adhere to their Honorable Ideals, Nalthians can become Returned if they die in selfless giving to others, such as saving someone's life or bringing criminals to justice, etc. It is also how Vin took in the mists, as well as the likely process by which Vessels take up a Shard. 4) Time lines Honor has a famous quote about the future being like a window, the farther you go the more pieces it breaks into. This is the most common thing seen when people see into the Spiritual Realm, as well as how Allomantic electrum and atium function. Feruchemy, shuttling attributes through time, likely uses a form of this. More importantly, it is the basis of gold Allomancy and Forgery. In Honor's window, the smaller and smaller pieces of window still exist, they never go away. They simply become Possibilities, What Could have Been. Gold Allomancers probably have the ability to see the two most likely alternate possibilities. Forgery likely functions by replacing what did happen with what could have, a broken stained-glass window being found by someone who lovingly restored it instead of a twisted glass frame that someone put in. Rewriting a history so that someone became a warrior or a beggar. If anyone has anything to add or dispute, I would gladly accept it.
  14. Kandra for recon and attack. I'm hoping they could be convinced to break their 'no killing' rule so that the kandra can have weaponized bones, as well as just go total mistwraith on the enemy and just soak up ammo while steamrolling the enemy, eating them along the way. I'd get an artifabrian for equipment, and an Elantrian for deployment. As long as the Aon is extremely precise, they could get anywhere they wanted, assuming they have the means to get to Sel. For elimination of obstacles, I'd take a Dustbringer. Edgedancer as a medic. Meat shield is a chromium Compounder. So lucky, the attackers have the accuracy of your standard Stormtrooper. Parshendi for whatever we need, with enough spren to be able to change forms in a blink.
  15. Any specific reason the paragraphs are bracketed by HTML? It isn't necessary, although many things (color, font size, etc.) can be accomplished by using what seems like a variation on HTML that uses brackets.
  16. Wow.
  17. Trying to find Hoid in the ballroom where Elend and Vin met? Alethi warcamps? Something set in Hallendren would be really hard with all those bright colors.
  18. So, the cookies can trace their origins back to almost the Dawn of the 17th Shard itself.
  19. I assume you mean that you are wishing for the shoes to be able to be worn. After analyzing your wish, you said that it must allow for normal physical activities to be comfortably accomplished. However, if you ever take a break from said exertion, the sneakers become extremely uncomfortable. I wish for the power—and full control over said power—to create alternate universes, every detail in that universe determined by a book, movie, TV show, or some other story that, prior to my decision to make said universe, had been in existence and known of by at minimum ten humans including myself. Infinite universes should be able to be made and sustained, the universe not ending after the events of the story have run their course, and my ability to create unique universes is only limited by my knowledge of the existence of said story. Concerning these universes, I will have the power to travel to these dimensions at any time in the story I want and in any location I want—being unable to go directly to locations where, upon arrival, my chances of dying in the following week are greater than 70%, as well as only being able to transport to events that are covered by the story—with anything or anyone I want so long as I carry the object while traveling to the universe, with equal ability to leave said alternate universes and return to my own universe at any time I please, in the exact moment that I left my universe to go to the other. My ability to communicate in these universes will be, except for written speech, understood in their most familiar language, i.e. a Spanish person will sound as if he's speaking English to me, while I will sound Spanish to him, with no limits on the number of languages that can be understood, either one at a time or multiple languages at once. My interactions with the beings in these worlds do not effect the events of the universe outlined in the source story, and will only be possible if conducted during times in the narrative that are not covered by the story, or where the outlined events are such that interactions between certain characters are not detailed to the point that would forbid someone being there without being noticed.

  21. When I first read WoK, I thought that Batman would make a good Windrunner. This thread is for the discussion of anyone in any media (Including Sanderson books) whose situation and driving motivations are similar to those of an Order of Knight Radiant. The Doctor is a prime example of what I mean. He has basically dedicated his life to protecting the innocent, but Rule Number One is that the Doctor lies. I think that the Doctor's scarred past leads him more towards a Lightweaver, trying to bring out the best in people. However, he does need to face some more hidden character traits.
  22. Hmm... how to do this? Scadrial would likely be white with a stylized spear in black. You know, with the whole Survivor thing and killing TLR with a spear. Nalthis has a mix of bright colors that are drawn specially by people who are of the Third Heightening or higher. Sel would likely have the base symbols for all the major magic systems. You have an Aon, etc. Roshar...perhaps have the ten Honorblades in a circle, pointing inwards? We don't have enough information about the planet, the Dawnshards, and such to be able to get a better idea. Threnody's is probably something like solid black. Taldain's is probably half dark colors of Darkside, half the white that permeates Dayside. Maybe doing some cool stuff with Skycolors, whatever they are. And the mother-of-pearl that is presented when Sand Mastery occurs. Hoid's is a map of the Cosmere, as the council has probably convened to figure out how to catch him.
  23. I apologize for the downvote. This used to be at zero before my finger slipped on my tablet. You know you're a Sanderfan when you ask your brother for advice on a story you're writing, and you get a feeling of disgust when he suggests that the story have more elements of traditional plots. Once you go Sanderson, there's no tolerance for lesser quality. Even and especially for one's own writing.
  24. I'm the Oncoming Storm. I'm sorry.
  25. The original idea presented on this thread needs to be addressed, I think. Injecting metal into your bloodstream is likely an idea that comes from the injection of many drugs and nutrients into the bloodstream. However, this would be a terrible idea. Your blood vessels are fairly fragile, and unless the pieces of metal are perfect spheres or something, you would seriously tear up your blood vessels. Not to mention, they would do potentially lethal damage once they get to your heart.
