  1. Correct! Take it away, Joe!
  2. Since no-one seems to be answering, here's another hint: There's a pair of assassins acting as fox and hound.
  3. None of the above, sorry to say. The story includes rats, monks, a labyrinth guarded by a monster, and a less than friendly angel.
  4. Could the assumption that the chart is about voidbinding be wrong? It might actually have something to do with fabrials, with the lady in the border being a fabrial scholar. Note the hair color. She's blonde, so probably not Alethi, maybe Iriali, though they aren't generally Vorin IIRC. (Finally, the two glyphs on top of the ruby are not linked to any surges (or surge equivalents).)
  5. I'm fairly certain the Inquisitors were 'susceptible' to emotional allomancy the same way the Kandra and Koloss were. On the other hand, most or all Inquisitors probably had access to allomantic copper, rendering them immune to emotional allomancy. Actually, Oversleep, where did you see an Inquisitor being affected by emotional allomancy? I don't think I remember reading that anywhere in the first trilogy.
  6. Yeah, somehow on this thread, my wild guesswork is weirdly accurate. Here's the next description: Urban exploration adventure renders businessman invisible.
  7. I'm voting Star Wars episode IV
  8. Well, yeah, as I understand it, aluminum and chromium aren't so much about destroying metals as they are about dissipating investiture. There is some overlap of course, since Scadrial's focus is metals, but I'd be willing to bet that a leecher could also deactivate Lifeless and Awakened objects on Nalthis and drain Stormlight from pretty much anything on Roshar.
  9. Haven't been watching anime lately, but some of the ones I've really liked are Otogi Zoshi: A story in two parts, first a classic adventure in Medieval Japan, and then the same set of characters (reincarnated) in modern-day Tokyo dealing with the fallout of the first part (at least, that's the way I remember it). Pretty nice artwork. Chronicles of the twelve kingdoms: Fantasy world, with multiple story arcs from different POV characters. Some rather interesting worldbuilding and mythology. Dennou Coil: Virtual reality in everyday life, hacker battles in streets and school corridors, and an evil computer virus corrupting digital pets. Apart from a slightly 'bleh' conclusion, what's not to like? Angelic Layer: I liked this mainly because of the action scenes, though the actual story isn't bad either.
  10. When you read the term "Guest of Honor" and your first thought is "But Honor was shattered!".
  11. The problem with your theory, dvoraen, is that when an allomancer burns a metal, the power for the effect that produces wasn't contained in the metal. The power (or fuel, if you prefer) comes directly from Preservation, with the type of metal only determining which effect is produced. As I understand your theory, the twinborn is supposed to feruchemically tap uncharged metal he or she swallowed. But the metals an allomancer uses were never invested to begin with, so there would be nothing to tap. The reserves you speak of aren't actual investiture, they're a sense the allomancer gets of how much time a certain amount of metal will allow them to access the power of Preservation. It's purely a representation, not the actual thing. Also, "Why not?" is not an argument anyone should be willing to accept. Just because one can't disprove something, doesn't grant it any legitimacy. I recommend you take a look at this.
  12. Hello again. The Oracle is still on hiatus for the moment. Right now I'd like to ask for some advice/opinions on naming a magic system for another story I'm working on. The system is about, well, cutting and pasting, really. Practitioners can basically split any object into pieces and fuse any objects together. (The theme is Fission and Fusion, though those terms are not used in-world) The powers are used via tattoos on the practitioners' hands (fusion on the right hand, fission on the left), so I'd like to name it something to do with ink. At first I was working with the name Encaustism (he practices Encaustism, he has Encaustic powers, he is an Encaust), and I really liked it, but then I discovered that Encaustic painting is a thing (and Encaustic tiles) which has to do with burning in a design, which I don't think is a connotation I want for my system (although I'm open to persuasion if you think it still works). So right now I'm looking for other names and I could use some help. As the setting has heavy classic influence (mainly Roman Republic, some ancient Greek) I'm looking at Latin terms to base the name on. I really didn't want to have something ending in -mancy, because that's been done to death*. However, my current thinking is based on the Latin word for ink: atramentum, or "atrament" according to wikipedia. For me the most natural way to turn that into a system name would be Atramancy (he practices Atramancy, he has Atramantic powers, he is an Atramancer). What are your thoughts on "Atramancy" as a name, and do you have any other suggestions? * incorrectly, by the way, as μαντεία (manteía) - the root word for -mancy - actually means "prophecy" or "divination"
  13. It really doesn't help that there are so many "W**** of somethings". WoB WoA WoK WoR WoT too, though that one wasn't Brandon's doing.
  14. Though the shards do have some control over it. Preservation changed the table of allomantic metals so it would have atium and malatium instead of cadmium and bendalloy. I believe the Shards can change some of the specifics, but not the general workings of the system.
  15. So an expanded form of the "Vampire methodology"?
  16. I wasn't using the Parshendi as an argument for Honour's magic, but for Roshar's magic.
  17. None of those, sorry. The senescent man (=old guy) seems to have a phobia of certain pre-industrial agricultural structures. Or they just tick him off, it's hard to say.
  18. Wait, seriously? I was kidding! That's the second time this has happened. Now I have to come up with a new subject... Hmmm, how about: Senescent man escapes his caretakers and wanders around, getting beaten up a lot because of his delusional fantasies.
  19. You still got the order mixed up, it's Byzantium => Constantinople => Istanbul (btw, it was part of the Roman Republic, but the name of the province was Asia)
  20. Unless the names have to mean something, I use a generator. Just google "fantasy name generator". The decent ones even split up their generators according to race, so different cultures have consistent-sounding names (that way you don't end up with two elf brothers named "Delsaran" and "Steve")
  21. And the rotation axis? Face-to-face or vertex-to-vertex? As King of Nowhere already said, that's going to be really important to work out climate, polar regions, day-night cycle, and probably a whole lot more. How about the rotation axis' angle relative to the ecliptic plane? (This would also affect the polar regions and the seasons on the whole cube) What shape is the moon, if it still exists? You mentioned jerry-rigging gravity a bit, does gravity still point to the center of the planet, or is it right-angles to the faces of the cube?
