    I aleays remember weird and unnecessary background stuff from books i just read and get hung up on them. So my username is a genderbent version of Shauka-daughter-Haseth the infamous logicmaster of Shinovar. I initially toyed with something Terris or a traditional Elakin name associated with Birthorder and time of birth.

    So. I read another topic about soul casting and an old question emerges. How does soul casting fire work? From Shallan and Jasnahs trip to the backallies i think if you cast something into fire the volume that the previous object contained is now filled with flames. It couldn't possibly turn the matter into Energy. Jasnah would be able to nuke the entire ardentia back to the tranquiline halls. And how do you cast fire into something else? You can't touch it, can you? What would you get? A Stone sculpture looking like petrified flames. How do you imagine it?

    This exactly. I always liked fantasy. But Brandon does it so well and exactly how i like fantasy that i only read his books of that genre. And there is a lot of them. He just stays away from all the tropes and isn't just copying Tolkin. I say read a genre entirely unrelated to high fantasy or sifi. Maby a historical novel or a biography. You won't compare it to much and enjoy it. I think the only other fantasy story i enjoy as much as the cosmere may be Avatar the last Airbender. I also hated the name of the wind. But not because of the world building or anything. I just absolutely DESPISE the main character. His personality and how hes written. Just as much as his love interest or enemies. Through the entire book i kinda hoped he would die. But i knew he wouldn't because he tells the story.

    If you get to sad about all the horrible things that happend. Just remind yourself that Sazed is in control now. His won't be altered to ruin or Preservation because he's got both. And if there is one person in The final Empire with enough intelligence empathy and a good heart to hold the powers it is him. The hero of ages will be there for all ages to come. (i hope)

    For a Seer: Just take a full steel, gold, iron and pewter mind and rush them down. Even if they see you coming. They can't run away. Once you've got them just smash them dead with strength and weight. While any counters are healed with gold. A Mistborn would be tricky yes. I think once you get ahold of them it's over. But catching them would be very hard.

    The pure speed should not be a problem for atium. Vin is able to catch Arrows during flight.But the reaction time surley is one of steels trump card. I still don't really agree how vin beat zane. The shadow should have shown that she would change her mind. I know she reacted to her own shadow sp to speek but still. One would think situations like this happen often enough in Mistborn fight's to be known. Even only as a rumor. Ham says that you can beat an Atium burner by essentially "checkmateing" them. A Full Feruchemist should not have a problem with this. Nor should a steel runner. Well depends if you fight a Seer or a Mistborn. Mistborn can always jump away which is a major advantage against feruchemie.

    I have a slightly different angle on this. I never understood the intent "Cultivation" as just growth. Cultivation is taking something wild and cultivating it to something useful. In cultivations Magic system you take two wild and untamed things (uncut gemhearts and Spren) and make a machine out of it. So I don't think Cultivation is a fundamental force like ruin and preservation. Her intent is more ... human biased if that makes sense. I think Cultivation and Honor seem to fit quite well. Taking a wild and untamed world and cultivate its inhabitants in to an honorable civilization. If any if that makes sense.

    Am i the pnly one who would divide it i to a few peaces, burn one and give the others to people i especially trust or like? Jumping around in the night would be fun. But it would be more fun with companie. And all of us could keep the other one in check. We also wouldn't be to strong.

    I've got a new one. An nobody seems to talk about her at all. At first Tintwhyl was an annoying condescending nagging know-it-all. But the second I found oit she died i wanted her back. I really like that Sanderson writes characters on our side that may not be entirely likable. And of course Shauka daughter Hasweth. She may only be breefly mentioned once in the whole Stormlight Archive but each time i grow more fond of her.

    Wait. The way i understood it, you may give animals charged spikes to give them abilities but I don't think you can actually create spikes from them. I think for hemalurgy to work you don't just need a soul. I think in HoA it was mentioned that hemalurgy takes the extra bit of preservations power that humans have to gain sentience or sapience. Scadrians already butcher a hufe amount of animals. they would just need to spike them befire to supply everybody with spikes.I doubt Sanderson intended that

    Mistborn: Tintwhyls death. I actually liked her because she was a good but hard to personally like character. Her death and Sazed's reaction to it messed me up for quite some time. When Vin defeated Zane on atium without atium. I'm still not really convinced that wasn't a massive copout/plothole. And of course the earring thats a hemalurgic spike that keeps the mists away. The attention to detail was brilliant. Stormlight: Jasnah beeing stabbed in the heart. I had to put the book down and do something else. It robbed me of every hipe she would come back. The Parshmen beeing enslaved voidbringers. Because of reasons in the spoiler above i never thought of the parshmen as evil.

    kindMaybe it was self confirming bias or something but as an atheist myself i was rather baffled to find out BS was a devote Mormon and not an atheist. When Sazed became harmony during the final ascension only the rational, scientific aspects of all the religions in the metalminds were actually usefull to rebuild the world. The gods where irellevant. Harmony was just a human with great power and not at all omni-anything. so were Ruin and Preservation. Honor could be killed. And the Elantrians thought the same way about the Korati as we do of ancient paganism. Nothing in his books ever seemed to support the notion that ther is meaning in actual believe or worship. When i found out he was mormon of all things ( no offense)i was .... confused to say the least. But two characters had a really strong message to me about religion. Sazed and Jasnah. Sazed's realization that you shouldn't judge a religion purely on its text and messages. You have to take into account the people that believe. And jasnahs statement about wise people in every religion and good people in every nation is something that i try to live by ever since. I don't know if this fits in this topic bit it just came to mind.

    If allomantic abilities were able to be naturally selected, The physical metals should be less common than the others because they are far more likely to die in combat without having (many) children. Soothers and Rioters should be the mayority if you think about it. They would have it easier to seduce people to have children with. Then again Breeze is mentioned to have a whole group of skaa soothers working for him to recruit the Army. So they are quite common too.

    It would be hard for an observer to tell if someone was able to store identity or Investiture. But the ferrings themselves would notice if the metal felt just like any other or if they could "reach out" to it. Sadly we don't know how instinctive it is for a Feruchemist to use their metals. Is it more likely for a steel misting to have coinshot descendants than other metals? I would say no, but it could be an explanation.

    justWhenever i reread one of Brandon's books i eventually find myself back here to dump my questions here like an archivist puts his thoughts in his coppermind. This time i noticed variations beeing mentioned regarding the amount pf specific mistings. I always just assumed that the entire misting population would be evenly divided among the 16 metals. But it's mentioned in Era one and two that coinshots are the most common type of misting. And we have a lot of coinshots as characters too. Wax, Forch, Beldre and all those assassin's. Same goes for pewter and tin. At first i thought Brandon just found steel the best metal to write action scenes for. But it seems to go deeper. Is it related to the price and availability of the metal? Meaning more coinshots are beeing discovered and active? Are the physical metals mentioned more often because of the obvious nature of their abilities and their value? In BoM they mention Aluminum ferrings to be very rare. And i expect the Terris to test all of their children since no metal is lost in doing so. As always i don't provide direct quotes because I'm not an electrum-Ferring or just lazy. But i wanted to get a discussion going since you guys are fantastic at bringing up points i never get to on my own.

    I think your/our opinion on Evi is kind of the reason why i found her death so impactful. Because everyone reacts to her that way. Through the whole book Evi is a character that speaks against the casual murdering of the alethi culture. But they treat her as to stupid and to soft to be taken seriously. And now even we as the reader, are dissapointet that her death wasn't cruel enough, that her husband didn't betray her even worse. Something she would have never wanted for somebidy else

    Actually have syl and Pattern really talked to each other in rhee book or reacted to each other? Syl mentions Pattern in thr duel scene. but otherwise... or any other sentient spren? i cant recall even one scene exept the ship scenes which i cant go into in the not OB-section.

    So many people say "she is like a maschine, a cold fish , condescending" A lot of the time Jasnah comes across like that because she is seen through another VP. And Most of those characters already think that of her. But if you listen to the things shes actually saying it gives a different picture. She is pretty self-aware of her shortcomings. She often makes herself apologize to Shallan and notes that she is not good at that. She knows that she is not naturally better than other people. She says power is just an illusion. Jasnah is really tolrant and accepting of others believes. And believe me. You get annoyed when people always start a discussions about your lack of faith or religious beliefs but get offended when you actually start giving a proper point and don't just blindly follow them. It's never Jasnah blindly preaching. Somebody always approches her about the topic.

    I don't really agree to that statement. I find the tendency to describe Jasnah as emotionless and sociopatic a little troubeling. Sure she did murde those thiefs in that ally in cold blood after she lured them out. But if you think about it. All the other characters have a quite high killcount for much lesser reasons. They all claim the Listener-Genicide also named the war of reckoning as honorable. Although they are all there to get rich. Kaladin atleast feels troubled by the tings he is doing to protect a few Jasnah just doesent beat around the bush like that. She is aware what deeds are necessery to survive and she is willing to take them without sugarcoating them. I sometimes get the impression that (especially in world) she is viewed like a sociopath because she is a woman. If her character was a man i think there would be far less of a discussion about her sexuality, mental health moralty. Many of her traits would be more widely accepted.

    Pattern for the win! He has fun moments like the no-mating scene. But also dark ones like the ending if WoR. Syl is ok i guess. Without the contrast she provides kaladins chapters would be much less interesting I liked the Stormfahter a lot in the first two books where therenwas a lotof mystery and power to him. I hate that hes basically Dalinars Wikipedia now...

    Jasnah has been my favorite character from the beginning! I love that she's a non-religous character who's ok with the religion of others as long as they are not to preachy about it. She is highly intelligent but doesent feel to superior to unintelligent people(like Taravangian) just ignorant ones. I don't really think there is a lot of evidence for her beeing gay. it wouldn't matter. But i think those vibes come from the fact that jasnah is behaving in masculine ways that dont necessarily need to be masculine. It's just the vorin society. I think she remains unmarried because vorin tradition demands her husband to be uneducated. And her work is very important to her. Jasnah has many flaws but i think they are well written and fitting.
