So I've had some thoughts about Hemalurgy and the Southern Scadrians that I figured I should share with y'all. 1. Southern Scadrians will probably have a much better understanding of Hemalurgy than we have seen in the North. We know hemalurgy was a part of Classical Scadrian culture.1 We also know the Lord Ruler kept knowledge about hemalurgy suppressed. He would not be able to do so in the South because they were entirely autonomous. So it would not strain credulity that without them being so restricted they would be leaps and bounds ahead in hemalurgic research. I also believe that it has been put forth that hemalurgic spikes may be used in creating allomantech and ferumechanical devices which would fit with this speculation. 2. The hemalurgy table will use a Southern variation of the Steel/Terris alphabets. The Allomancy Table uses a variation of the steel alphabet used in the late Final Empire era, the Feruchemy Table uses the Terris alphabet used in the late Final Empire era. They are both "descended" from the ancient Terris alphabet used in the HoA chapter headers. I think it would be really cool if the potential hemalurgy table used another set of symbols descended from the ancient Terris ones. It would lend a nice sense of unity between the three. Since there really isn't a place in the north where one would have developed, the natural place to look for it would be in the south. So what do people think? These are just some random thoughts, not really full blown theories but I think they're plausible.

Rosharan Calendar and Character Ages
WeiryWriter replied to Delightful's topic in Stormlight Archive
I believe the days have different lengths as well. I think we have a WoB about how Rosharan years are only 1.1 Earth years long. -
I'm in as well. I'm Weiry, and I'm a lookout.

So a while back we were talking about formalizing the sections for Character articles on the wiki and I suggested a "Relationships" section. It didn't really go anywhere, partially I think because I didn't explain myself very well. What I mean by this is a section devoted to analysis/discussion of the relationships (both romantic and platonic) that are necessary in understanding a certain character. It's more than just the facts, it's the meaning behind them as well, if that makes sense. An example, Vin for example would have subsections for Kelsier, Sazed, Elend, etc. because her relationships with those characters are important parts of her character arc. An example of kind of what I'm going for can be found here. This would be a more endgame part of article writing but I think it would be valuable. I think it would go a long way to raising the "production value" of the coppermind. (I've said it before, I want other fandoms to look at it and say "Why isn't our wiki as awesome as that one?")

So a while back I posted on one of my userpages about my Project spreadsheets, basically a list of all the different articles in a category and their status, what the goal for that article is, and any other random comments I had. So far I've got five: Project: Elantris Project: The Emperor's Soul Project: Warbreaker Project: Scadrial Project: Rithmatist I just figured I would post it here, since not everyone obsessively checks the Recent Changes page like I do (though seriously you should). These are probably already out of date, but if you see something that is incorrect let me know and I'll update it. Edit: The Spreadsheets should all have comments enabled so you should be able to comment right on what needs to be corrected, and what it needs to be corrected to. To insert a comment just go to "Insert->Comment".

The 'Conflict' between Honorspren and Cryptics
WeiryWriter replied to Macen's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think the Cryptics will end up being the only ones with an "alternate" name. "Cryptics" is the name they gave themselves, probably because they didn't like being named liespren. (really who would? Even if they do like true lies, it isn't a very flattering name). As for them being "lighteyes" its mentioned they rule one of the two major cities and that honorspren rule the other. So honorspren would also be considered "lighteyes." As for what that is so, perhaps it is because they are both 100% of their respective Shard, Honor and Cultivation and are "purer" because of it?- 51 replies

Worldbuilders Write-a-Thon & more Words of Radiance!
WeiryWriter commented on Windrunner's article in Brandon and Book News
There is a transcription of the Q&A bits here. Brandon did mention that he is trying to get White Sand made into a graphic novel, is that what you are referring to? -
Atium still exists. Marsh has a bag of it which is how he's still alive. Whether it is still being produced is another matter. We know Harmony is doing something with his surplus Ruin power but we don't really know what. He could be producing atium. My personal theory is that it goes to the true-breeding koloss and that they have more Ruin than Preservation. But any atium or lerasium that comes into existence during Alloy-era would operate exactly as they did during the Final Empire. I personally think it more likely that sazedium would be alloy of atium and lerasium. Afterall Harmony is kind of an alloy of Ruin and Preservation. Also this quote: (source)

On the "All Shin warriors are Truthless" here are some quotes. (For the record during my last reread I did briefly think this but after reading a few more pages I decided against it) Here it is established that warriors being bought and sold is part of Shin culture. Contrast this to latter on in the Rysn interlude: So normal warriors do have value, but Szeth did not. This indicates, to me at least, that there is a difference between the two.

Okay, the transcription is done. Something I'm excited about is that Isaac did a new endpage as well. Full transcription below the cut

Isn't Alloy-era Scadrial supposed to be at a 1910/1920's level tech? (I'm pretty sure its after the turn of the century tech-level-wise)

Okay, I'm starting to transcribe the questions/interesting comments from the video here.

Cosmere Fanart - Sketches and Works-in-Progress
WeiryWriter replied to ExMachina's topic in Creator's Corner
PokeSpren!!! With Axies Ketchum! Back when I was working on the SprenDex (my name for the spren article on the coppermind, and yes, it is a PokeDex reference) a couple of us in the chat were very excitedly coming up with spren and pokemon crossover stuff. But seriously if there is ever a Stormlight RPG or something, there needs to be a sub-quest or something that consists of discovering all the spren. -
So here is a WoB I don't think I've seen mentioned here: (source) But something I mentioned in the "What's up with smokestone thread" is the possibility of "plausibility" being a factor. Now, plausibility isn't quite the right word. In Forgery it isn't enough to say "this wall is now covered with a mural" you need to describe all the other details of how it came to be that way. Likewise in Soulcasting (excluding the Ten Essences themselves) it is not enough to know something exists, you need to understand and now how it works. I think this is part of why Jasnah is bad a soulcasting organics, she isn't a natural historian, she isn't interested in that sort of thing so she doesn't have the understanding required for the soulcasting to be "plausible".

Cosmere Fanart - Sketches and Works-in-Progress
WeiryWriter replied to ExMachina's topic in Creator's Corner
I really can't get over how awesome these are. I always love it when a new piece shows up on my tumblr dash. And that Vin and Elend... It's just so awwww. But seriously a Stormlight game has to happen now. How can we make this happen? -
Now, I haven't actually read the Liar sample chapters but I don't think so. Liar takes place pre-Shattering, so Surgebinding, and Rosharan-Lightweaving, wouldn't exist yet.
-
Focus characters for the first five books are: Kaladin, Shallan, Szeth, Eshonai (the Parshendi shardbearer from the Tower, who gets a series of interludes in WoR like Szeth did in WoK), and Dalinar.

Rosharan years are roughly 1.1 Earth years, and consist of 500 days. I don't think the months have "names" they are just numbered, i.e. Shash is the sixth month. There is a little about how the calender works on the Roshar article of the coppermind. And the numbers can be found in the Ars Arcanum or here.

Thanks for sharing, but someone else already pointed it out. But here, have an upvote. I'm gunna lock this, we only need one thread for discussions.

Theory: The Dawnsingers are the Radiant Bonding Spren
WeiryWriter replied to WeiryWriter's topic in Stormlight Archive
I don't think so. Szeth's status as Truthless has to do with him being perceived as betraying his people in a fundamental way. I also think we can say no to the "manipulating Stormlight genetically" because that's not how magic works on Roshar. On Roshar it is determined by a person's actions and not their genetics. I'm definitely of the opinion that the "dawn-" prefix just denotes age, as well that dawnsingers/shards/chant, were not the original names for these things but rather "modern" constructions. Well, I think the Dawnsingers would be fairly autonomous, Honor/Cultivation made them to be sentient afterall. They wouldn't necessairly check in with their "parents", who are busy being gods, for everything. Especially if they wanted the creation to be a surprise. I also think there were only ever 10 sub-types that grant surgebinding so I don't think pre-Radiant surgebinders and Knights Radiant bonded to different spren. I think the "Circle" is the ruling body for Crystal Vine spren like Wyndle. I remember this, Maresia is correct. The question was "Are Dawnsingers an order of Radiants?" to which Brandon said no.- 12 replies

I don't think Odium has anything to do with parshmen's widespread presence across Roshar and I don't think he needs to. It is quite believable that Humanity did it all themselves. As Jasnah points out "we never throw away something we can use". It's a fairly common trope, something (usually of alien origin) shows up, and instead of destroying it or locking it up somewhere safe, people start to tinker with it. Invariably causing BAD THINGS. Now I do think that Odium is involved somehow with the Parsh but he really didn't have to do anything, beyond waiting, for them to get so widespread. Anyway, have an upvote for your first post being a theory.

RAY-oh-den would be the correct "in-world" pronunciation. It has to do with how Aons are pronounced, disyllabic with hard vowels and stress on the first syllable.

There really isn't a word for what is generally referred to as a "full feruchemist", it's a bit of a lexical gap. "Keepers" would be an order/group of full feruchemists, like Worldbringers, but isn't a "name" for that suite of abilities.
