Mid-Range Game 39: For Science
Kynedath replied to BrightnessRadiant's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I'm not ignoring that there could be other elims on at the end of the cycle. They absolutely could have been. But there was most likely at least one who was absent. That means that we have a much higher chance of finding an elim in those three than looking at the entire playerbase. 1/3 chances are better than 1/14, that's why I think we should be focusing on them. You're right that probably not all of them are in those three, but one of them almost definitely is. If we find an elim in those three we have much more info to find the others. I've outlined my suspicions of CadCom earlier, I won't repeat them here. What I will say though is that with the items point, I was mostly thinking that if a player has an item and the eliminators don't know what it is then there's the possibility it could be a bullet proof vest which could mess with every plan they have. That's all. It was my mistake to extend that assumption to all items. I should have been clearer.- 338 replies

Mid-Range Game 39: For Science
Kynedath replied to BrightnessRadiant's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Exactly. Or another teammate could have stolen something and @CadCom could say they stole from that person. Or CadCom could say they stole from someone with no items, or someone who had multiple people steal from them, all of which would be plausible excuses. But the only real way to know if CadCom was the killer is if someone used binoculars on them. Unfortunately, it is unlikely that binoculars were used on them since I stole a pair of binoculars that were promptly stolen from me immediately afterwards. If there is another pair of binoculars out there there is a 1/13 chance that they were trained on CadCom. So it seems confirmation of my accusation or CadComs Defense will most likely be non-existent. That leaves my read of their posts.- 338 replies

Regardless of whether or not they claim to have stolen last cycle, there is no way to prove or disprove it, so that testimony won't do any real good. Although I should have tagged @CadCom in my post as well, I apologize.- 338 replies

Mid-Range Game 39: For Science

Absodel huh? Remy had barely even known that he was working for the doctor, he mostly kept to himself. The death was disturbing though, things were heating up with this job and Remy wasn't sure he wanted any part of it. Unfortunately for him this job was all that kept him afloat in Newcago, so he was invested enough to try to help figure out who was doing the killing. Well, besides the maniacs he worked with who . . . didn't get there in time? What kind of funky murder mystery was this? Maps take time to create, and Remy needed the time to make the mental map of suspicious behaviour. The more bodies that piled up the more places cluttered that mental map. Clark Narrow, Character pending Jr. (wow, someone really named their kid something like that? I guess if it's a family name then it's better), and . . . some man with a moustache were all missing, had no alibi. Then again there are far more than just three possibilities. There were thirteen. Regardless of whether or not that is the whole elim team, I think that at least one of them is an elim. Out of those three i think that CadCom is the most suspicious. I have had my suspicions since last cycle. They were analyzing information about the game but not doing much with the information afterwards. They didn't accuse anyone, they didn't defend anyone, and that seems to me like they're trying very hard to stay neutral in order to avoid suspicion. Not to mention the whole thing about the kill going onto Coda meaning that the elim that killed them wasn't on later in the cycle.- 338 replies

I think they would. Every death counts for the eliminators, especially in a game with fifteen people. It might just be me but if I'm trying to win a game like this then I'm doing everything I can and every single action taken counts. Yeah, it's swingy and hard to control, but for the eliminators it's still a step towards their goal. I can see where you're coming from, but that's honestly what I think.- 338 replies

Kynedath replied to BrightnessRadiant's topic in Sanderson Elimination
The thing is, I recognize that D1 lynching probably should happen. You're right, if it doesn't happen then D2 becomes the same kind of D1 lunch. In addition it provides valuable information that the village can use to weed out eliminators. I just feel awful whenever I vote for someone on D1. I don't do it on principle because I know it's probably going to happen anyways and the information will still be out there even if I don't contribute my vote that cycle. The defending Sart part is weird, I see that now. I don't know why I was thinking that, there was no reason to think you were defending them. My bad.- 338 replies

Im against D1 lynching, I have been for the last however many games I've played, but this is a good discussion we have going here, I like it. If I were an elim, then on D1 I would be trying to get a solid lynch on a non-eliminator. In that respect Sart seems suspicious, but I think that suspicion is mitigated for me because of their apparent track record of encouraging discussion with sketchy means. And nothing else really screams elim to me. Butt being laid back doesn't strike me as an indicator for being an elim, and that's most of what I think about them. Not much else has happened in that corner of the ring. Who I am suspicious of is Twibanu. They were the ones that actually started the voting which goes back to elims trying to get a solid lynch going on someone other than them. A long time into the cycle with not very many votes would get an eliminator worried that the village wouldn't kill anyone which would keep more people in the game which isn't really what they want. In addition, I don't understand their logic here: I just don't really know what they're trying to say, and that makes me think they're trying to defend themselves or Sart with village logic after they did something with elim logic. Villagers act with villager behavior, so it's easy to justify your point logically. But it's harder to justify elim behavior with village logic and that's what Twibanu looks like they're doing to me. Stick is working with . . . Odd logic, but it makes sense and doesn't read elim to me. DeTess seems like a villager working with village logic and village motives. I don't think Lemonelon is as suspicious as they think though, it seems to me like a throwaway question asked out of curiosity and not politics. So in conclusion my biggest suspicion lies with Twibanu right now. I don't like to participate in D1 lunches since I don't like contributing to getting someone killed before they can really play the game. But I'm going to be keeping an eye on them from now on I think.- 338 replies

Mid-Range Game 39: For Science
Kynedath replied to BrightnessRadiant's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I disagree. True, the analysis itself can be a great cover, that's true. I've done that a few times myself, try to look useful by analyzing stats and probability. But you can almost always find indicators one way or another, mostly in the way they present their findings, the conclusions they draw from those stats, and how they present their view of the game with that new information. There is a real possibility that CadCom is trying to hide in their analysis, but instead of dissecting the analysis itself, it would be more useful to look at their presentation of said analysis. CadCom only really said that the game could be swingy by the end, which is true and has no real connection with strategies or suspicions. The only other thing they really said was, from what I see, in an effort to get inactives playing and get those who are active voting. It doesn't scream village, but it doesn't scream elim. Which almost seems like an eliminator playing it safe? Very slight elim read on CadCom for me I think.- 338 replies

That's true actually, I guess I was getting a smidge of tunnel vision and thinking about the eliminators wanting to avoid bullet-proof vests since that wastes their kill for the turn. But you're right, they'd be going to reduce village resources. Butt Venture is @Ookla the Journey who posted on here yesterday. However I did notice @Coda looking at this page when it first went up and I'm not seeing a post from them either. EDIT: I actually also see Coda viewing this page right now, so they're probably writing a response as I type this.- 338 replies

Mid-Range Game 39: For Science
Kynedath replied to BrightnessRadiant's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Remy looked around the room over the top of the map in his hands. Many of them seemed on edge, one even barking in his direction about computer . . . something. He seemed to be paying for components. If Remy wasn't already working for the doctor then he might consider it, but he liked doing one job at a time. That left him plenty of time for his side projects. He looked back down at the map in his hands and mumbled to himself "I might just have bitten off more than I can chew." The name of the cartographer in the bottom left corner caught his eye again: Constantine. His name. The map depicted the small portion of the tunnels under Newcago, the original reason he had come to the city of eternal night, the city of steel as some called it. He didn't really want to be here anymore, he wanted to see the ocean again, and see the stars like he had on the Provence back in France. Alas, the mighty ship would ne'er sail again because of Tiamat, the French Epic. Despite the oppressive constant night felt in Newcago, Remy found himself staying; he would always remember the feeling of his few expeditions down into the tunnels and the sense of exploration that made his heart soar. So to pay for his stay he had found the doctor and had sold him his services. After all, Remy was a sailor, he knew how to handle himself in a fight. He could handle the heavy-lifting this job required and it gave him an excuse to go out into the maze he so desperately wanted to explore. Remy folded up his map and took his feet off the chair in front of him and looked out once again to the room full of his colleagues. "Mon dieu, if I am to settle here for the duration of my expedition, I should probably find out why everyone looks so prepared to bolt." And so Remy Constantine was scanning the room, trying to map out who was there to make trouble and who he could rely on. After all, he was good at making maps.- 338 replies

Mid-Range Game 39: For Science
Kynedath replied to BrightnessRadiant's topic in Sanderson Elimination
A few things I want to talk about in @Twibanus post: CadCom is right, 2 points times 5 rounds means you'd be able to purchase a gun cycle 6. It's true that nobody can use it until turn seven. They also claim it can't be used until turn eight, which seems incorrect to me, but that's not really important. It's a long way off and honestly trivial at this point. With knives, bullet-proof vests, and the different actions available, we can't guarantee that the game will have two kills per cycle, nor can we say that there is a max number of turns. Twibanu does bring up a good point about claiming to have used a gun though. I can think of one reason not to claim, but that really only comes into effect if you used the gun from the black market. If you waited all that time to get the gun then that most likely means that you don't have any/many other items which would make you a target for the elims. Plus if a villager killed an elim then the eliminators might want revenge. So it may well put a target on your back, just not as much of a target as in other games. About smoke bombs, The reason for villagers to use them is to hide what items you have and what you're doing with them. Anybody can steal, so the more information anybody has on another players items, the more they can plan and strategize and the less they have to rely on luck for their plans to work out. Villagers want to hide information from the elims so that they can't plot and scheme. A smokebomb could hide that they stole a bullet-proof vest and the elims could waste a kill on them.- 338 replies

Hoo boy, cycle six will be one to watch out for then considering that is the earliest that someone can buy the gun. Another quick question, if you buy an item on one cycle, can you then use it that same cycle or will you have to wait for rollover to officially receive it?- 338 replies

Mid-Range Game 39: For Science

Okay, @BrightnessRadiant a few questions regarding the new rules. If two people try to buy the same item at the same time and there is not enough inventory for both of them, is it just random who gets it? If so, will the person who doesn't get it still have their points? Will we be informed of who buys what? If not then would we know what someone bought if we used binoculars on them? Is buying things from the black market an action? Will the black market get new items periodically or is what we see now all there is? Are we able to get more than two points per cycle if we complete their objectives more than once, or are you capped out at two per cycle?- 338 replies

Aw dip! I forgot I could be a specific character! I wanna be Remy Constantine, a male French ex-patriate whose first love is the sea, whose second love I exploration of the unknown, whose ultimate role model is Meriwether Lewis and his Corps of Discovery, and whose ultimate goal in life is to see the age of exploration live again - but this time in the stars! Or at least, it was before the epics appeared. Now they want more than anything to find a way to rid the world of epics so humanity can focus on stories of adventure and exploration again!- 338 replies

I'm assuming since you can steal items from other players just as an action, you can have as many items as you can steal, correct? If so, then when stealing from a player with more than one item, will an item be chosen at random from their "inventory"? The rules also state that : Does this mean you prevent any of your items being stolen or do you have to specify one item you don't want stolen?- 338 replies

. . . I'll sign up for this one. It's been a very long time since I've played a game of SE, so I'll be rusty for the first while probably, but it'll be fun to get back in the game! at least for a little while. This game is starting right as my semester ends, but I unfortunately can't say for certain whether I'll be able to participate in any games after this one again. :'(- 338 replies

Long Game 44: Shadows of Elantris Redux
Kynedath replied to Herowannabe's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Angrin Nalti Gu Uda Sandrius wasn't new to courts, but he had visited others much more than he had visited this particular court in the past. It was odd, considering that he lived in Arelon. Not that he had any notion of belonging in Arelon, he had been moving around for far too long to truly belong anywhere. No, this court was simply the starting point for his next business venture. His business was trading secrets; it didn't matter if they were big secrets, small secrets, personal secrets, international secrets, secrets about the universe itself - ANGUS could find them all, and there were all sorts of secrets in the room before him. ANGUS straightened his overcoat and tugged on his cuffs. He worried that he may have overdressed, especially with the heat he felt coming from the mingling bodies in the room. He took a purposeful stride forward, motioning for a serving boy to fetch him a cold drink. His actions were curt and swift, every movement ripe with intent to find every secret hidden in the palace. His eyes scanned the crowd in search of a story to hear. The serving boy returned carrying a red drink with ice chips chilling the glass so water condensed on the side. Eventually, ANGUS' gaze fell on his associate Iredon standing by a wall. The slender man was the middle man that ANGUS used to keep suspicion off of himself; well Iredon was the latest middle man he used. They never seemed to last long, the poor things. Something about revealing the secrets of powerful individuals tended to bring a certain . . . excitement to an individuals life. Finding good men seemed more and more difficult these days, there was hardly anyone he could trust anymore. Regardless, Iredon had done well for himself and had lasted longer than nearly any of his other operatives. ANGUS made his way over to the man and clasped his hand as if meeting an old friend. "Iredon! My good fellow, how fare you?" "Food's good, music stinks, too brightly lit for me. Overall, I'd say not great." The man did have a frightening look about him, all tall and gloomy. "Bah, I'm sure you can make it through the night, at least until I find my next investment. I need to garner money for the orphanages somehow." ANGUS turned to stand on Iredon's left side, facing the rest of the crowd head on. "Yeah, whatever you say Gus. I'm gonna find some place to lay low. People have gotten to starin' at me." ANGUS turned his head ans spoke in a muted voice "I know you must refrain from revealing the nature of our relationship as employer and employee, but please stop calling me Gus. It's demeaning!" At that comment, Iredon grunted and started into the crowd. Nights, the man could be a nuisance! ANGUS took a frustrated sip from his drink and began his search of the crowd anew. It was at this point that ANGUS realized that many of the people inhabiting the chamber didn't belong there at all. In fact, there were barely any upperclassmen whatsoever! ANGUS verified that he was in the right location, becoming more confused all the while. As he inquired the vocation of a few individuals, his bewilderment grew to the point he wondered if he even had any business here whatsoever. How could these people have any secrets to begin with? Was that a shoe-shiner? What could he possibly make a profit off of when he was surrounded by the peasantry? ANGUS was on the brink of deciding to go back to the Rose Empire when he stopped to consider a rumor he had heard entering the city. Cultists attempting to garner influence were the reason he came in the first place. Cultists weren't confined to courtly figures, they sprang up in the populace like weeds. Any of the people in this room could be individuals of note. That decided it. ANGUS had found the secret he would sell. The happenings of the Arelon court until the resolution of interesting happenings. (I want to do more RP this game than I have been, but I may decide later on that I don't want to do that anymore. So for now, I'll try to keep up this story and hopefully see it out to it's completion. If it starts to hinder my analytical abilities in any way, I'll probably drop it so I can focus on other aspects of the game.)- 1185 replies

Man, this looks very complicated, but I think I could get into it. I'll sign up as Angrin Nalti Gu Uda Sandrius, or ANGUS for short.
