  1. Alright folks, I'm back. The five page day 1 is really intimidating, but I'll do my best to put out my current thoughts. It seems a lot of people are trying a change in game style, I really don't think it's alignment indicative at all since this game is a great time to try out new things - especially with the mix of old and new players. Plus I'm trying to do the same in a way so it would be hypocritical to say anything otherwise. I just want to put it out there to @little wilson I really respect you for finding a way to have fun in this game. I've had a few times when I've had to put the game aside in the interest of keeping the game a fun environment, it's tough. I know it probably doesn't mean much coming from me - someone you haven't really played with or know - but I just wanted to put it out there hoping it would brighten your day at least a bit. Also, to anyone in the spec doc who missed out on playing because of the player cap, I salute you! You're troopers and I hope you enjoy watching this chaos. Anyway, now to some light rules analysis: So I totally missed that if all the constables and bleeder are dead the criminals win. That makes the timing of dispersing a lot less important in my eyes since it makes a lot more sense to me to just keep trying to find everyone. The constables are going to have a hell of a time trying to convince the village as a whole to disperse rather than if the criminals had to disperse to win themselves. I'm actually really looking forwards to the PM mechanics in this game for once, they're new and exciting and full of promise. Limiting PMs like that will have a really cool effect on what PMing will look like. I also want to bring up the possibility of people purposefully sending more PMs than they are allowed to in an attempt to frame someone or set them up, give the village weird false information. Or to give them information the next cycle if they think they are going to die. Since any PMs after the first (or fourth for the gossipers) are posted to the thread, someone can send one PM to someone, then later send another to another player saying something like "X player targeted Y, they must be Bleeder!" It's super situational and I haven't really thought it all out so it could be a completely invalid tactic, but I thought i'd bring it up for discussions sake. What do you guys think? On to initial reads: @BrightnessRadiant Saying in your post that your brain wasn't working too well seems suspicious to me because that could be a way to hide not having too much of proper value to say. However You have a good post with good content as far as I can tell and your writing does sound sleepy and off kilter so I'm probably wrong on that count. Overall I think it's neutral even though my gut went off at your post. Although I could have sworn you said something really really similar near the beginning of this cycle, was that someone else? Or can I just not find the post I'm looking for? I don't think @xinoehp512 going through roles is as suspicious as others make it out to be, I seem to recall them doing similar every game I've played with them. Even just recounting what the roles do seems NAI to me since that is a legit way to think about them, just comparing them to their vanilla mafia counterparts. I like the activity we are getting from a lot of the players, especially @Straw, and though it is NAI to just contribute to the conversation I'm inclined to argue for not voting for them just yet since they contribute so much to the conversation. I'm shaky on the @Karnage lynch too, I don't really get why they are being voted on in the first place? Can anyone explain that? As for actual suspicions I'd say maybe @DeTess? They came on early on and have disappeared, that might be to get a presence early on and then lie low. Even if that is just their schedule (which it very well could be) Their only big post that I can remember was saying that everything is shaky and that we can't really trust that surviving an attack is a sign of either bodyguard protection or just bleeder. Maybe sowing chaos in the ranks, but it's a weak suspicion. Other than that I'd say maybe @The_God_King since they were poked and replied by saying they were in a barrel. That just seems off to me, so a gut read on them.
  2. Right now we are reading through what people say and looking for anything we think is suspicious. By suspicious I mean something that we think the eliminator team would do. If we think they are suspicious then we vote on them in red. The person with the most votes is lynched, AKA killed, at the end of this cycle. Like Matrims Dice said, it's unlikely that we will hit an eliminator the first round, but lynching day 1 is a big way to gather information. I personally don't vote cycle one, I morally don't want to be involved with someone getting lynched the very first day, it's happened to me and it sucks. That being said, a lot of players believe that if you signed up for this game then you're agreeing that you might be killed early on so they vote day 1 to get information as early as possible. It is important to get that info. So what a lot of people will do is put poke votes on people who haven't posted, pressuring them to be more active. However in this game that might be a little bit less likely since you can't just cancel your vote, you have to put it on someone else once you've voted. That'll be interesting to see play out in the first couple cycles. To the new players, I hope that helped. Also, lately I've been sitting back during the beginning portion of the game, saying that I am more useful late game, but this game I am going to try to be more active and contribute more during the early game, so I'm letting you guys know right now to try t hold myself a bit more accountable to that.
  3. I personally feel like ignoring your GM PM and not looking at your alignment is a poor decision. If you're a villager then no harm really, but if you're an elim then you're depriving your teammates of a player essentially. And like Detess said, if you don't join the doc then you lose the possibility of teamwork and add the risk of your teammates hitting you with a kill and that can absolutely ruin an elim tams chances at victory. What I HAVE seen done and I think is a clever idea with potential is going into the elim doc but not looking at the names, making a few new pages and make a conversation with the other villages making them aware that you want to keep them anonymous. If the elims are okay with it I'd ask them to use the same color as background and font color where your names go so that they're invisible unless you highlight them. The others can choose to either know the identity of their teammates or not. I think that maybe Aman did that in one of the docs I was in?
  4. You do not have to be able to kill someone to fulfil the contract. It's like hiring an assassin, anyone can buy it and kill a player That's really fair actually. My reasoning was that since there are a couple ways to scan people that it should balance out, but even then there would be a difficulty doing anything about it. Plus with the vote manip it gives even more power to the elims. Would you suggest loosening the restrictions on the lynch or adding a village kill role? I'm partial to the latter as I feel like the lynch rules are at the core of this game. I didn't want them to come up in scans which is why I made it an alignment without specifying that it was not technically a role. And I don't want King Iadon to be able to switch their role either. So no, it does not count as a role i addition to an alignment. I can make the following change to clarify the matter: change "you have no role other than Dakhor Monk Spy" to "Dakhor Monk is not a role, although being of this alignment does give you the abilities mentioned here". Another thing I think I should add is specifically say that there is a vanilla role with no actions tied to it. I don't plan on making this a role madness game. So that will go in the next iteration.
  5. I'm definitely in! Lord Reginald is RSVPing. @Coda the game ended but the aftermath has yet to be put up. Fifth scholar hasn't been on the Shard since May 8th though, and Striker has just said that it might be a while from what I know. @A Joe in the Bush how do you vote to disperse the party? Is it like "Disperse"? If so then we won't be able to vote for a player and to disperse the same turn? Will there be a lynch if we vote to disperse? It says that kill actions taken against bleeder fail as if she was protected by a bodyguard, but a bodyguard can't protect the same person two cycles in a row. So then if Bleeder is attacked two cycles in a row will they die on the second cycle? Or is it saying that they are just always protected from kills? Dowser says "in addition to your smuggler role", does that mean that Dowser will always be a smuggler? What do you mean by "global tie" in the smuggler role? The extortionist can't target the same person twice in a row, but since they make one player target another player can they then not target both players involved in their last action? Since we can't retract a vote without replacing it, would it be valid to go from a vote on a player to a vote to disperse?
  6. I've been working on a game idea for a while now, I was looking to get some feedback on it. It's an LG set on Sel, in Arelon right after the Reod. Here is the link to the doc. I'm also including the rules here. Reforging Arelon You play as members of the merchant guild of Kae (the capital of Arelon) directly after the Reod. Since the elantrians fell, there is a very very loose ruling structure that could collapse at any time. The new laws and policies are still being put into place, and as they form the game itself will change. When certain conditions are met, rules will be added, removed, or changed. There are those among you who think that Arelon has outstayed its welcome and that the people or Arelon would be better off integrating with Fjorden; it is the job of the loyal merchants to root them out and remove them from power - and remove them from life. The guillotines will be busy. In this volatile state of change, will the merchant guild be able to reforge Arelon into a great nation once more? Factions: Cycles: Roles: Lynch: Actions: PMs: Currency: Item Market: Contract Market: Order of Actions
  7. I got some disheartening news a couple days ago that has made me less inclined to play vigilantly, I'll do my best to stay active from here on out, my most sincere apologies. I have very little suspicion right now, I should i theory be able to come back with some analysis later on. For now though I'm not entirely sure I like the train on mist. it seems pretty baseless and out of nowhere. Which makes me less inclined to think that the people voting for mist are evil. I'd think that an elim would be abnle to think of better reasoning than whet I'm seeing.
  8. I know I said I'd have suspicions before the cycle closes, but due to unforseen circumstances that no longer seems possible. Sorry folks, I'll be back next cycle.
  9. Okay, so from what I can see the main points of conversation this cycle seem to be about when to use knives, the use of codes in the shade doc, and Striker saying "we have plenty of time" which seems to have been mostly resolved? Welp, on to my thoughts about these things! I think knives should be used after around cycle 2-3, at that point knife users will most likely have a solid hunch on someone they believe is an eliminator, and it won't be as flimsy a hunch as early cycles will have. I think sooner is better than later, the later they're used the less chances there are to actually use them since every cycle knife holders have a chance of dying, thereby taking the knife with them to the grave. I'd say it's probably not great to have a knife during the late game because at that point a huge swing is going to be potentially devastating, and a large change in information would be a lot to handle for a smaller group which would benefit the eliminators. Whereas a larger change in the information - in the playercount as well - with more people is more manageable. At least that's how I feel, I sometimes get a bit overwhelmed when a lot changes in the last cycles of a game since there aren't too many others left to analyze it all with. I don't really see a point in using codes to identify players in the shade doc. True, people can claim to be other people, but then at the same time I feel like that should be part of the game in the shade doc. If two people claim to be the same player than people can use other context clues to deduce who is the real one and who is the fake. And that information will in turn affect peoples decisions and the information given which is a benefit since the more information shades have, the more effective they can be at roleblocking the right people. And I mean it seems really difficult to implement. You'd have to get everyone to use at least a similar system of codes, tell people you trust over PM (which is by no means foolproof) and then rely on people actually doing that which seems incredibly farfetched. I don't see myself doing it for the reasons listed above, and I completely understand God Kings perspective after what happened regarding them and codes in the last MR. The striker quote seems NAI to me I think. Based on the information they had given right before that I feel like it was really just an offhand comment. One thing I want to bring up is how many med kits people think are in the game? I think there will be less than the number of knives in the game, they seem really powerful since you can keep using them until you successfully block a kill. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if there was only one this whole game. And if this has already been brought up then I must have missed it, so I'd appreciate it if y'all let me know if that's the case. Anyways, I should be back in the morning with some suspicions hopefully? although they won't be too solid considering it's cycle one. And as is normal for me I won't be voting cycle one, just a heads up.
  10. Holy moly! so so much to go through! Three whole pages of content. From what I am gathering, I think that @Lord_Silberfarben has some great points concerning Detess and Fura, although I'll have to go back and look at those instances more closely to see if they're completely accurate or if I'm misreading something or looking at the wrong posts. I'll hold off on voting on them for now. So with Bard surviving an attack I'm interested in the possibility of a WGG. Although Burnt pointing it out like they did also feels a bit suspicious to me. It felt like they were trying to throw the discussion into chaos, I couldn't tell if they were trying to say that it was likely a WGG or if it was likely not. That looks like staying on the fence and that post stood out to me. So Burnt for that one. "Mmm! Oh man, this coffee is amazing! I haven't had caffeine in forever, it gives me mild headaches, but I could really use it with all of these people going crazy. And did you see in the news that someone was attacked? Thank goodness they survived, I guess that just goes to show how good that Physicking department is eh? If only they'd try using my beets, they have amazing medical benefits. And I mean the scares are just going and getting rid of sales! It's hard being a Ruh, it's rough! You're a commoner, it's not that different for you either! Like man, those hoity toity nobles are crazy with the stuff they spend their money on." The cafe was fairly empty, but it was cozy nonetheless. Browns and yellows gave it a homey feeling, and the ceramic mugs were hefty and probably handmade which game it a really nice quality feel. The coffee was coffee, Traelynn didn't have it too much. As she glanced around she couldn't help but think that the place could be a good opportunity to sell some of the candles that Amila had been helping design and make. Her designs and scents were spot on! The beet greens candle wasn't one that many would probably be able to stomach, it had an effect more like incense than a candle, but the green gave the displays color that was sorely needed. There was red and yellow and green. Without green it would only be red and yellow! That isn't great for brand building. Overall the candles were much much better than Traelynn could make herself. She could grow the plant, maybe cook it a few different ways, but past that she was really only a salesman. "Amila, thanks for agreeing to this, I think it's a great way to celebrate being elevated! Plus it's nice to see you without trying to sell beets. I feel a bit weird without my beet box, but it's good to get out and just relax with you. Here's to being elevated, and having a great friend to celebrate it with!"
  11. Okay, so I think that my only real suspicion is the weird train going on Lopen right now. Can someone tell me why there is all the suspicion on them? I'll throw a tentative vote on Bard for now since DeTess apparently voted first from what I can tell and Striker and CadCom are already under scrutiny this cycle.
  12. Traelynn grabbed the package out of Amilas hands excitedly. "You really got it to work? I've been trying to do that for years! This will help with sales so much! A candle made completely out of beets, beet juice made into wax, beet green fibers making the wicks, genius! With this it'll be a breeze to draw people in and sell to them! The aroma of beets will be wafting through the whole campus by the time the month is over!" Amila was smiling, obviously proud at her work. Traelynn had missed her during her month off, she had become one of Traelynns closest friends here at the university, closer even than a lot of her friends back home. She actually tolerated Traelynns unwavering passion for beets. It was becoming more and more scary to be at the university though, so Traelynn worried about herself and Amila being attacked by skindancers more and more. There was another insane person when she got back from her home which worried her immensely. "Amila, what do you think about the skindancer situation at the university? I mean it's getting worse and worse! So many people are being attacked and affected, there is like three people now who've gone insane, right? It's scary." Traelynn looked off into the distance for a small while, uncharacteristically quiet. When she looked back at Amila her face was more jovial again. "Maybe if everyone but me goes insane people will actually listen to me and make agriculture an official field of study huh?" @Zillah Alright, I'm going to be completely honest @DeTess I don't have many game thoughts because there is so so much reading to do! I'm trying to keep up with the thread but it's a lot harder than in smaller games. And even in those I tend to come out more during the late game. I'll post again in a while with a vote or two, but for now @Elbereth @little wilson could I get a vote count? I'll look it over and come back with my official opinion before rollover.
  13. Shoot! So sorry that I missed an entire turn! I wasn't even too too busy, I just straight up forgot. I'll try my best to do better this turn. "Amila! Oh goodness, you were brought on the horns? Oh that's terrible! I extend my deepest sympathies your way despite the irony of you having been found guilty of reckless use of sympathy!" Traelynn was lugging around a new carton of beets from her trip back home the previous month. She had been called back by her family because of a weavil outbreak at the farm. She had taken the opportunity to restock on a new strain of beets. However she didn't intend on missing more school. She had been away for a whole month dealing with weavils so she had missed a whole heck of a lot of work. She had ffound that while she had been away, Amila, her closest confidant, had been brought on the horns. It had taken a while to find her but when Traelynn had spotted the girl she immediately went about trying to console her. Not her strongest suit, she mostly just offered some of her beet wine to Amila as she lacked the experience to truly help in an emotional situation such as this. @Zillah
  14. @DeTess I get where you're coming from, but right now I'm just having so much fun with this roleplay! I understand that this is a mafia game though so I'll dedicate this post to game thoughts rather than beets . (This is also one of my first times handling the emoticons, how did I do?) The only thing that really sticks out to me is that since people can choose which field of study they want to pursue then the Skindancers can pick and choose which ones to target almost. Like, so long as they can get information (which is a specialty of the eliminators) they can choose to either blend in and go for the larger fields in an attempt to get to the top and destroy a large field, or they can go and eliminate smaller fields with more chance to do so but less effects for the villagers. I personally would go for the first since if you're playing a long game you've got to think in the long term. You can get to the top of the field eventually if you try hard enough. Other than that, I think I'll vote on Experience so that we can all share the love! Although at some point soon we will have to stop just spreading votes around and actually hone in on trying to catch skindancers.
  15. Wow, Traelynn knew that Amila was timid, but this was a whole other kind of timid! Ah well, it was kind of endearing! You knew exactly what she was thinking which was much nicer than most nobles she had met, although this one seemed better than most. He had seemed confused with her hoity toity speaking, so she decided to tune it down a bit. "Oh, Amila, you know this guy? Awesome! Any friend of Amilas is a friend of mine! The name is Traelynn Weeks from Weeks Beets. I'll ask your name but I'm going to keep talking a little bit longer so could you maybe remember all the questions I ask and answer all of them? That'd be real deevy of ya. So yeah! You know my name now, what's yours?" "A little more about me is that I'm also a student here at the University (although I might now be for very long with how expensive it is) but I spend most of my time trying to get Agriculture to be an official field of study. Amila is in the process of agreeing to help me, ain't that right Amila? We go way back, she is the first person I met here and we've been steadfast friends ever since! Shes the first best friend I ever got. You could be the next if you want! Well, if you ever tell me yer name that is." "Also, if you don't mind my askin' what's with that other guy you were talkin' to? Somethin' got him on edge? I mean he peeled out of here really fast. I know about that one guy who went bonkers but I mean that's just the one guy, right? It can't be that huge a deal. I mean everyone's kinda been on edge, there is a different feel to the place since it happened, but I guess I convinced myself that it was all in my head." @Zillah @Karnage
  16. Traelynn looked up abrubtly, eyes looking past the horizon. The hair on the back of her neck was standing up and her spine tingled. "Someone needs my beets." She lept up and grabbed her crate of beets as well as the arm of her sitting companion Amila and ran off in a direction she knew only from instinct. Someone needed beets and she was determined to provide them! It wasn't long until she found her way to the noble who was in need of her wonder-beets. Hoity toity as he was, his nose was tensed in exactly the way that told her he smelled her beets. There was a longing in that nose twitch, she could sense it. He was talking to another Noble - this was going to be one difficult sell. With Amila in tow Traelynn approached the nobles in their conversation with beets in hand and she saddled up to do her best 'I'm going to speak with a nobleman' voice. "Good day gentlemen! I do hope your studies at this fine University are going well! I hope I'm not intruding, I was just hoping to do you a service! You see me and my partner here" she gestured to Amila standing behind her "have some of the finest beets in the region for sale and I would be remiss not to recommend them to you fine young hearty men! After all, with all the brain power students spend on studying you'll undoubtedly need the nutrients and vigor that my beets provide! Beta Vulgaris (or beetroots for those unaware) is packed full ofvitamin B9, or Folate for those of higher academic acumen. I have prime Ruby Queen beets right here with me and I'm even willing to give out samples and recipes for some scrumptious dishes featuring both beetroot and beet greens. So what do you say, have I whet your appetite yet?" @Karnage @Sart @Zillah
  17. "Amila! Ol' buddy ol' pal, you look so sullen! I can smell rain in the air, is that from you? Can you control the weather? That would be so incredibly useful when farming beets! Man alive, my business would be booming with you working the operations with me! Given any thought to my offer yet? It still stands! as it is, not too much traction taking over the university food market yet, I could really use your weather control powers. It would be our key into the market!" Traelynn set her crate of fresh beets down on the bench beside Amila and slapped her on the back with a familiarity that she probably hadn't earned. But dang it, that was who Traelynn is! It's in her blood! "I've been trying some new selling locations lately, but none of them were as good as this here main thoroughfare so I figured I'd come back, at least for a while again." Traelynn finally looked down at what Amila had been working on. "Say, what's that you've got there? Some sort of treasure chest? Jeez, I thought treasure chests would be bigger. Oh! Your surprised expression reminds me of the apparent skiindancer epidemic that the University is going through! Did you hear about the kid that went insane? Man, scary thoughts. If people start abandoning this place then the economy is going to rot and won't give me no compost! I need this place to hold up if I'm gonna be master of agriculture!" "Aw heck, I shot like seventeen different questions at you didn't I? Sorry 'bout that pal! I'll let you have a turn to talk now!" @Zillah
  18. "Traelynn Weeks from Weeks Beets! Nice to meetcha! I like you already, and I can tell that our bond of friendship will never break!" "Let me let you in on something: this here University is hypocritical! I have been petitioning and sending letters in for years trying to get agriculture as a proper field of study just like arithmetics or Artificery. It should be up there! The chemistry behind growing plants and the composition of soil and meteorological patterns is enough to make two whole curriculums! As of yet my voice has gone completely unheard. I can't make them recognise the legitimacy of my craft! It's because of my upbringing, I'm sure of it. As an Edema Ruh, of course nobody at the University is going to listen to me, they're all hoity toity silk swaddled nincompoops who can't tell a tuber from a grain. My plan is to flood the University with my beets! I'll get everyone around here hooked on them and the higher ups will have to pay attention to the purple wonders! I'll become a master of Agriculture and lead the industry to new heights! The problem is that I can't get anyone but you to buy my amazing products. I need a team, a distribution network, a real concerted effort to bring the campus around to my beets! So if you are willing, I'd love to get your help spreading the good word of Beetroots! Whaddya say Amila? Partners?"
  19. "Welcome young lady, can I interest you in some handsome beets? I see you have a coin in your hand, I assure you that it's a good purchase! My beets are grown naturally and without any artificial/magical preservatives. I could keep going about my beets for hours on end if you let me!" The young woman in front of Traelynn stopped and seemed frozen in place. Traelynn cocked her head and decided to take it as an opportunity to do just what she said she would do, talk about beets! "Beets are not only nutritious, but also delicious! The strain me and my family grows is called a Ruby Queen beet, although lately I've been trying to experiment with Red Ace beets, Bull's Blood beets, Boltardy beets, Early Wonder beets - which happen to be my favorite kind because of their gorgeous inner layers. Gosh they're amazing, and real lookers too, if I had any Early Wonders I'd be selling them faster than I could grow 'em!" Traelynn casually walked up and swapped the coin in the lady's hand with a beet, although she seemed to be more fixated on Traelynns fast talking and blurry lips than on her hand and the trade happening there. "Yellow beets are an untapped market, but that market doesn't have a lot of demand in it. Nobody is selling, but even if they were hardly anybody would be buying. And they're pretty runty too, despite their awesome color." Traelynn noticed that the kind patron standing in front of her had a sort of puzzle in her hands, one of the ones that her brother had once fancied. The notes and papers in here arms indicated that she was a student here at the University as well. This lit a match for Traelynn, giving her a brilliant idea. "Say, what's your name oh generous patron of mine? I have a rather interesting proposition for you."
  20. Traelynn plopped her crate onto the stairs and gazed up at the university. There wasn't much farmland on the school grounds, agriculture still wasn't an accepted subject of study for the hoity toity noblemen. Well then she would just have to enlighten them to the glories of farming and fresh produce! The crate at her feet was full of beets, and she was determined to sell these delicious purple vegetables to those uneducated in their glory! "Come one come all to Weeks Beets! Selling the best beets around! Salads, juice, even dyes! Beets can do it all! Purple and juicy, full of flavor, sure to enhance any dish! Beet greens fill out any dish whether they're charred, boiled, or eaten fresh! A student of Physicking? Beetroots are the perfect herb for you! They're hearty and full of vitamins and healing properties!" A nobleman walks past, turning their nose up at the crazy lady waving beets around in the air, tossing dirt into the air around them. Traelynn just took a step toward them and yelled "Not civilized enough? Try calling them Beta Vulgaris, thats their science name, perfect for university life!" As the nobleman kept walking Traelynn turned back to her beets and muttered curses under her breath. She stood there, advertising her beets to everyone who passed. Nobody gave her more than two glances. They probably assumed that she was just another dirt poor farmer come to beg for sales, despite the fact that she was actually enrolled at the university herself. Just then she saw a sight to behold, a commoner walking towards her with a coin in their hand! Finally, a customer! RP reserved for @Zillah who contacted me over PMs. While I do appreciate that it would decrease my tuition, I REALLY don't like voting on day 1, so I'll refrain from that for this turn.
  21. Hey y'all! Checking in, getting that tuition decrease. I'll be galavanting around doing my own thing for the most part. So yeah. Howdy!
  22. I played in LG 18, I will play again! Traelynn Weeks, heterochromea, black hair, small nose, likes beets.
  23. Yeah, I should be able to do it if you guys want me to.
  24. Hmm, this strikes me as suspicious. You haven't really been adding too much to the conversation this cycle. Last cycle you had plenty of thoughts and questions and points to add, but this cycle you adressed your thoughts on TGK in your first post, and this post you defend yourself and just jump on a bandwagon. Yeah, it's a huge bandwagon and almost surely going to go through, but it almost seems like you're hiding behind it so that you can vote and make a small impression this cycle without drawing attention to yourself.
