  1. I don't think there is too much height difference on Roshar's popolation....Worldhopper seem to be able to pass for them without too much effort.
  2. First of all I think you have to put [AU spoiler] in the title Anyway depending on the time the essay was written, is possible that Elantris gained a strong political and actual power on Sel....It may be the third empire (but I don't actually think).
  3. Because you can carve with more precision and detail. Also if it's hard as hell
  4. I think regrowth too may heal the soul, after all in the original ending of WoR we see actually this (yeah the scene was changed, but this circumstance remains canon as magical mechanics)
  5. I think Szeth has simply become less and less confident of his own mind, and now He delegate the decision to the sword...On the topic, I liked really his part in the novella. I have to say that Edgedancer confused me. I began to read it with a precise expetation....a lightweigh story on Roshar with Lift as main character, I honestly didn't prepare myself to "relevant things"...But there are tons of relevant facts, not only for the humor-creep spectrum, but actually for the our understanding of Stormlight Archive as serie.
  6. @DarkJester "the girl that thrown herself off the reishi" didn't obtain a Spren, the Island gift her a Larkin, an actual Roshar's animal (quite extintend) with unique propriety among the Stormlight. Returning to the main point, death is often a traumatic experience and we know that be "broken" is a requirement for RK. Anyway Shallan has no one of the immediate family dead before Pattern (she kills her mother with it after all) and Dalinar is alive...therefore I don't understand the "renarin=father"...maybe you though about his mother, but again a family death is just a subset of the way someone may experience a traumatic experience (and often it isn't so traumatic)
  7. It's a bit a weird assumption because Roshar is actually a dishardic shardworld and from recent informations, seems that dishardic planets are quite rare XD
  8. @Chull #445 You have to remember that Lift is most affine in the Cognitive than a standard Human being, She may see her Spren as He is in the Cognitive instead of his look on the physical. Therefore it's normal than she see a Cultivation spren differently than other Edgedancer. @Djarskublar Ym was considerate as an Edgedander's candidate three years before the current time, He may be progressed almost at any point in that time. Honestly he manage to use efficiently and willing a Surge. This is not a proto-radiant thing (of course I don't think he is beyond the first oath).
  9. Ah ok Argent I use this reply to post another wob from the reddit's post...it's something we already know. But I want to be complete with this report Q: why do Szeth and Kaladin not suck all the stormlight out of the gems that power shardplate when they fight people wearing plate, thus rendering the plate useless? Is there something different about the gems that power plate that would make this impossible? A: So, in the magic of Stormlight (and across several of my books) there's are some underlying principles. One is that the power of the magic (which we call investiture) is difficult to manipulate when it is claimed by someone, or something, else. You can imagine that magic in the process of being used, like the energy powering plate, works like a kind of negative charge to your own magic. Trying to lash someone in Plate will be very difficult, as the stormlight in the plate is going to resist your attempts to push through it and get at the person. Likewise, that power in the plate is actively being used--draining it is difficult. If you can rip off a piece of the plate, disconnecting it from the system, then you can get at those gemstones and drain them much more easily. But tucked away inside, they're both shielded and being actively used by the armor. They would be virtually impossible to drain.
  10. I think that Afterimages was caused by Lift who partially see Nightblood while Nightblood bonds with her (and almost everyone near in the space) for his telepathy. Lift was unable to see the Skybreaker's spren and The Stump's Spren...therefore she can't automatically see spren not visible to others...but Nightblood performe a lesser bond with the beings in the sorround to comunicate and this may be enough for Lift to "see" something of Nightblood's being
  11. I used the example of Allomancy because it's the only source we know, that may actually be used to tap Investiture from everywhere...Of course He may use a source unkown to us, but generally high-Invesiture Shardworlds have raw Investiture integrated in their ecology. Hoid has showed us to be able to use his "healing" on roshar, this quite remove all this kind of investiture because he would be unable to "keep the reserves"...I will point to a low-magic Shardworld, like Scadrial or Sel (well Sel isn't really a candidate for its location-dependacy problem) where the Investiture is directly tapped from other realms on demand.
  12. Well in the context where you had a separate Cognitive Aspect and Spiritual Aspect is not to weird...After all a "dead feruchemist" may actually still tap his metalmind while he is still in the realms, but on another point, Surgebinder can't auto-heal himself if he is no longer proprely alive (I think it's because a lethal damage, would release the bond and the Surgebinder can't no more use his abilities). The problem with Hoid is another in my mind...Where did the Investiture needed come from ? In almost all the cases we see, the restoring/healing is quite expensive in Raw Investiture. How did Hoid manage to have this ?....I may understand He had an infinite amount of it, IF he used the Lerasium to become a Mistborn and obtain a direct line from Preservation's Power hacked to use it to fuel other things...But before that ? It's possible that his "immortality"/"Soul regeneration" is a recent upgrade to his powers ?
  13. I think the same, but Brandon RAFOed this thing, therefore maybe she can't do that (something like "she is too in the cognitive to tap from Investiture present in the physical")
  14. You may be right...but the Single-Breath Command are well known for some centuries, I find strange he refer to that as modern while the whole Awakening's knowledge isn't much more older
  15. I don't remember but you may have right....I want to point how their lifespan change for being not more fully human
  16. Yes yes you have probably right, I was just trying to find a method....Thousands of that 40k words are actually too common to be used as valid commands. Now that I think about...A Lightsong's man didn't say something about "he used a modern command for the lifeless" (the squirrel)...therefore it may be actually be some kind of "upgrade" of codes over the time. But I can't actually figure how this is possible
  17. I reach the bottom of the society...I am a Truthless, so ironic the step Highprince->Truthless
  18. The essay says that Odium battled and mortally wounded Ambition on Therenody but the Shard is actually Splintered elsewhere...Therefore is normal that we don't see Ambition's Splinter on Therenody...We have to find the place where Ambition dies and his/her power was splintered
  19. I noticed something that may be really relevant in the Therenody essay: Odium was uncapable of killing efficiently Ambition as he did with Devotion, Dominion and Honor...this may be a clue about the fact that Odium just after the Shattering didn't know how to properly Splinters a Shard. If this is true we may argue that the method is different from the one used by the 16 to Shatter Adonalsium and Rayse just later discover/developed his method to take down Shards.
  20. She or other worldhopper may have simply observed it from Shadesmar and extrapolate the informations. As far as she said it's not that Therenody have unstable/unpredictable perpendicularities...but it's probably a general condition of the Cosmere. There are the official perpendicularities where the Investiture's level is very very high (where a Shard has Invested) but there are also some temporanery perpendicularities that may spawn and disappear also without an high level of Investiture. I think it's the reason they are so interesting in First of the Sun where without a Shard...there is a stable (also if little) perpendicularity. On another point, as you pointed out: There is some place in the Cosmere where Ambition dies and for this own definition that place would be a major Shardworld (if it's happen on a planet)
  21. I just manage to obtain AU and I just read all the essay...Did nobody notice that Khriss remark how the isolation of Taldain is compared to the interplanetary Autonomy's policy is ? It's may be a clue about the Trell-Autonomy's relationship ? On another side, if Khriss and probably any other worldhopper can't reach or leave Taldain...it's possible that her information are obsolete about the actual Taldain's situation
  22. I think that about this topic there was an huge codipendence in Roshar's History: - The Surgebinding's Surges come to pair that are natural to Roshar - The first user of Surgebinder were the Heralds with Honor's gift - The Spren understand how to replicate those powers Now the Spren are a materialization of the Surges that people think as living thing (they are actually "living surges"). Therefore it's possible that people inspired by Jezrien's story/feats/legends began to associate it to the wind (because he has the right surges) and this forges the Honorspren like syl to be wind based PS: Notice also that the other surge of a Windrunner, the Adesion's Surge works with a manipulation of the atmospheric pressure....a concept with a strong relationship with the air and wind.
  23. Unless there are some restrictions on the words usable in Commands.....but you have right, it's an huge number of combinations (also removing all the pratical useless ones)
  24. @Oversleep maybe his duality made him create a paradise for a halfish of the world and create an hell for the other half....We saw him reasoning in term of Preservation and Ruin
  25. Much more, if the Aluminium blocks a Shardblade....A mass production of Aluminium would started long ago on Roshar and things like Half-Shard would be pretty useless.
