  1. It might be. That is one theory that is floating around (though I disagree with it) and I haven't seen any quotes that seem to indicate that. I personally think that a Breath comes naturally and so is connected to a person's soul, so it goes wherever they go when they die. Also- Brandon, if you had to pick one place in the world to go, where would it be? EDIT- I don't want to post this, but I do want it somewhere where I'll see it. So, we have Source: Where the spiritual power comes from. Prime Example: Dor, Power of Creation (allomancy), Self (Feruchemy) Focus: The physical thing that gets used up to access Source. Prime Example: Metals, Colors, "Spark": The cognitive thing that starts the reaction. Prime Example: Commands, "burning", What is the right name for a "spark", for the Cognitive Trigger?
  2. Oh man- my sacrifice to the Coppermind paid off- I now have Dragonsteel in my backpack.
  3. I would like to announce that I have step 1 of my 2 step Alethi script plan done. And I now have a fancy new avatar! EDIT- Also, this was post 666.
  4. After looking at Isaac's work, I decided that I really wanted to be able to write in Alethi. So I took Hareke's Alphabet (found here) and I cut it, sucked the color out of it, and then cut out each letter and saved it as it's own file. So now I can "write" in Alethi by sticking a bunch of pictures together. I tried making a font, but that ended up being far beyond my budget/expertise. I do apologize that the images aren't all lined up. Some are shorter, some are taller, and they all have slightly different center points. Alphabet_0022_U.zip
  5. Lame Superpowers? Psh. I don't have any of those. Although I do have some Talents.....
  6. I have to say, regrettably, that my first instinct to "what could be poured in there" was Jello. Sorry, but wouldn't that be the coolest Jello molds EVER?

    Oh man. That's epic.
  8. So instead of my meaning being important to allow for the intent, it is really how the magic actually works that allows for the intent. In other words, it's the how that matters, not the why. You could use a Steel Push to save a life or end a life, but you are still Preserving your own power.
  9. So are we saying that instead of a cognitive intention, it is now a mechanical intention?
  10. I think that Kelsier could've escaped with just Atium. It's pretty awesome stuff. If you put in any influence Ruin gave him, as well as the extra time Kelsier would've had now that Atium was easier found. And also, Kelsier mentions how much more powerful Vin is than he is. During one of their duels, she was holding her own against him despite the fact that he was a good 100ish pounds on her. And then Vin mentions how much more powerful Elend was than her. He was able to soothe at least 10x as many koloss as she was. So Elend (a Lerasium Mistborn) was more powerful than Vin (a future Sliver), who was more powerful than Kelsier (a normal mistborn). So therefore, Elend was MUCH more powerful than Kelsier. If Kelsier was a Lerasium Mistborn, he would've had a much easier time defeating TLR.
  11. Brandon's mentioned something about Kelsier's mistborn-ness before. Maybe it was in HoA? Let me find it.... EDIT- Too late! That's what I get for posting that there is a quote before finding it...
  12. The only trouble with that is that it seems like there a lot more than 10, or even 100 different kind of spren. There aren't that many different kinds of Knights.
  13. Quote from Brandon!
  14. But I do thing a little bit that Harmony is a little more than a name. I think that over centuries and centuries, eventually Sazed would have his mind changed so that it is Harmony more, even though his power isn't. Does that make sense? So (to use the lego analogy), although the red brick and the blue birck are still separate, Sazed's mind is slowly turning purple. Unless Ruin and Preservation are so perfectly opposed that it doesn't do anything. But I doubt that.
  15. The only one that I can think of is the Knights Radiant giving up their Shardplates and Shardblades. When they give it up, they are still lit up. But when people who are not Knights Radiant and have (presumably) not made the same promises that Kinght Radiants ahve, the Shard Plates grow dim. Power leaves them. To use Alcatraz's definition, it seems like they stop becoming magic, and start becoming Technology. That is, things that anyone can use.
  16. The "What you do" for Honor makes a ton of sense. Honor must "give out" his power by way of Honor, or, by keeping the promises you have kept. Although it matters what you say, it matters so much more if you keep to what you have said. For example, if Shallan said the Words of the Knights Radiant that Kaladin said, it wouldn't do anything for her. Why? Because she hasn't acted (to our knowledge) to "Defend those who can't defend themselves"
  17. How does Feruchemy work? I mean it makes sense that Allomancy Preserves power in the person, it makes sense that Hemalurgy Ruins that power by decreasing it, but then how does that work with Feruchemy? (Notice: I'm pretty sure it's because the influences are so opposite that they cancel out, but I want a really good Cosmere explanation that will give us more information. Sort of like the B&N explanation of Lightsong's visions that led us to Slivers and Splinters.)
  18. Argent, I don't mind if you prettify the original post a bit. If you want to email me of PM me your revision, and then I'll edit my page, and say "edited by Argent". My email is [email protected]

  19. I had always thought the first, but after some consideration, I think that the second would fit better. I mean after Using the power of Preservation, TLR would be a lot closer to the power of Preservation- that's the definition of a Sliver. That would turn him into a Mistborn, and the beads would turn others into Mistborn. But then again, Sazed said that "One of the things that made TLR so legendary (his allomancy) was something each of the Original Mistborn held." That seem to say that TLR got the power the same way.
  20. One of my family members was going through the bookstore when a name caught her eye- Orson Scott Card. My whole family really enjoy his works, so she takes a closer look. "The finest work of fantasy to be written in a long while" said Card. She thought this was good enough for her, so she bought the book. I loved it. The characters were so deep, the struggles very real, and the magic system so interesting, that I plowed right through it. We found that a few months later that he had another book- Mistborn- out as well. I read it and loved it almost as much. When I heard that he was releasing a new book- Well of Ascension- I was there at the signing. However, I didn't join his online community until Hero of Ages. I was there during the HoA Q&A, which was one of the last times Brandon was there, and the first time "Shard", "Adonalsium", "Hoid" and "Cosmere" were used. I have been a rabid fan ever since.
  21. Not to mention the fact that you're reusing pieces of an animal's soul. But then again, they do do that all the time in Hallandren. But I think that the economic value of it would eventually overwhelm the moral qualms of it. At least for a while.
  22. Perhaps he meant this kind of word of god.
  23. Not to mention that might be a little bit of a spoiler for readers... So Waxium prayed to Sazed, the ancient Terris who ascended to power. Yeah, might be a little troublesome.
  24. I second CabbageHead's ideas. The Blades were originally meant for the Knights Radiant, formed after the Honorblades. They "glowed" when they used them- until they broke their word, broke the promises they had. Then, they started to discharge from power. It is only in (relatively) recent history that they have been used against humans instead of to protect them.
  25. Don't forget that the Word of God can also change. We were told all sorts of confusing things about the Poles in Scadrial, and the Kandra also changed from Animal Priests to the "Faceless Ones"
