  1. I am perfectly willing to be a martyr (once again) for the greater good, so go ahead and lynch me if it appeases you, though it will be another waste of a turn for the village. I just hope everyone learns something useful from it. EDITED: For grammar / clearer wording.
  2. I've seen a mention of a game taking place on First of the Sun, and wonder how many people would be interested in seeing it (or one like it) done? EDIT: Alternatively, how about a Song of Ice and Fire? I know it's not BS, but I've seen some other worlds use and think it could be an interesting setting.
  3. Personally I had some reservations about Emerald early on in the game, and with Gamma replacing his position after the unfortunate circumstances that forced him to retire, my wariness has shifted. The point Lopen makes, I think, is valid to some degree, and I almost want to believe the man's a Conspirator. Logically that is a terrible reason to want to see someone killed because Renegade could have asked Gamma to fill the slot in order to help the village rather than the elims, but I still can't shake that feeling. From Day One I have not trusted PK. His initial post in this thread has only amplified my apprehensions. His first three sentences just scream feigned to me. Yes, Artifabrians are important. We all know that. We also all know that Clanky has been corrupt since we lynched Hero, which lessens his usefulness significantly. I'm pretty certain the conspirators didn't kill him because of his role, but because he was generally believed to be innocent. If his kin decided to contact with him and spill everything then it might have been able to give him the power to weave together some loose threads and maybe even establish a network of survivors. As a result, I take full responsibility for his death because I idiotically declared him as someone to be trusted. I did this with Kipper too and got him killed early as a result. As Lopen said, we should not make this mistake again in public, else we will force the elims to target another confirmed noble and continue the cycle of distrust. I would much rather lynch PK or Hael over Adamir. I am not 100% convinced that any of them are conspirators, but I do think the two formers are more likely to be evil than the latter. EDIT: Wrote Alvron instead of Adamir.
  4. Is that confirmed, Joe? EDIT FOR QUOTE FROM RULES: LIFELESS OPERATOR: You have one lifeless. You can send this lifeless to protect anyone you want, at any time you want. It’s default state is protecting you. If your target is attacked, the lifeless dies instead.
  5. Well, I won't try to argue against my death, because of both how poor the logic is against me and how it may benefit the greater good. I am a Lifeless Operator but will not attempt to save myself with it. I figure it'll be better off protecting someone far more important than me. I hope my death is not in vain and some good can come of it. Good luck, fellow villagers
  6. A History of Warfare by John Keegan, as suggested by Mr. Sanderson
  7. @Mailliw: I know it certainly seems that way, but the fact of the matter is, with the rather large gaps in my activity this game, I forgot a lot of details I had studied up on in the beginning. I'll admit I should have referred back to the rules before posting, but because of the small window I had to actually post at the time, I just dove straight into it. Between this and MR8, this game's rules are a lot more complex and as a whole I am still very new. All I can say is, I made a couple dumb statements, and if that warrants being killed then I will welcome it with a heavy heart and wish everyone the best in the future (though I really don't think it'll come to that). @Kipper: In regards to my first post, I just wanted to know whether or not Odium targeting a non-shard would warrant a write-up, since he can only kill Shards. Also I did not tell Endowment to out herself, I suggested she reveal who she gave Ruin, and didn't think I needed to specify to someone she trusts privately (implication). This was before I understood she could use their ability before giving it to someone. My statement of me expecting you to be attacked early on mirrors your statement in Day 1 of MR8 where you claim that you aren't surprised Wilson received the extra vote. Same exact logic, given you two are among the more experienced and connected players. Am I wrong that trying to figure out who Endowment is in the public thread would only benefit the OCs? By all means, discuss it in secret, but my point is some discussion in this forum needs to be made, and that those two subjects wouldn't help us much. EDIT: Fixed grammar/wording
  8. At most, 6 Nobles are currently corrupted and a 7th may very well be tonight. We already know that Clanky is one of them, and that he is an Artifabrian. I really wish Wilson hadn't died so early because a corrupted Guardsman would have been very useful in a situation like this, and I somehow doubt another one exists after the death of Honey. I wonder if there are any roles (corrupt or not) left that we could use to our advantage. I know with me being a Brightlord I am essentially useless at this point. There's nothing we can do to prevent another Noble's death tonight, and as Adamir brought up, if we continue to pursue him and it turns out we lynched another villager then we wasted two more lives. This is my first game and I wonder if we are severely behind, or if it just seems that way. Apparently the last two MRs were both village loses, and I would really like to break that streak. What were some things that were learned from those games, once the Eliminators had been revealed?
  9. Ah, right; so many rules to keep track of. I'm going to have to start rereading them daily. So really there isn't much to learn from last turn, at least in the benefit of the Villagers. It should be expected that Kipper be attacked early on by the OCs, whether or not he is one, and trying to figure out who Endowment is would only help out the OCs. Any other leads we can pursue?
  10. So, Kipper survived. Tell me, Joe, if Odium attempts to kill a non-shard would it still warrant a write-up? Or do you only reveal it to the public if there's an actual source of protection on him? In the case of the latter, I wonder how Kipper survived. Also I didn't know Endowment could use another Shards power; unless Ruin was given to someone else and that green glow / declaration is a trick / lie. If it's true, Endowment definitely comes off as evil to me, which is super scary to think about. If Endowment is an OC too we are in a lot of trouble. If it was a lie, then Endowment should reveal who she gave Ruin, as they may very well be an OC. Also, Phatt is still alive, then?
  11. One of my favorite songs by one of my favorite bands;
  12. @Clanky, I didn't mean to say that because you were right about Hero you were more likely to be right about someone else. I meant that if you (for whatever reason) somehow did know for a fact that even one more person was a Noble that I would have someone else I can trust and that'd help me narrow down my suspicions. @Adamir: I personally haven't had any strong feelings towards you being an eliminator, which if I've learned anything this game means you likely are one, and honestly after your declaration of being a Shardbearer and how it'd be stupid for us to waste two cycles trying to lynch you, I'm tempted to vote for you because to me that seems like a really great lie for an Eliminator to make, if it were to be fallen for.
  13. There's a few things I'm attempting to figure/flesh out, and would love to hear some thoughts/ideas from other people. If a planet's orbit consistently sped up and slowed down, what kind of affect would it have on the environment and its inhabitants? I imagine it would have a big impact on the weather, though I'm not sure in what way. Keep in mind the acceleration/deceleration isn't sudden, but gradual (steady increase decrease across 3~4 months). What are some societal developments you can see in a species where there's two females for every five males? For cultures that practice monogamy, I can imagine one where (if the woman gets to choose their partner) every woman would have men constantly competing for them in order to procreate (kind of like a medieval "The Bachelorette"), and another where (if the decision is made by the father) they are essentially "sold to the highest bidder." For others that practice polygamy, I can see a system of rule where women compose the aristocracy, each having their own harem of men whose entire lives are dedicated to taking care of/pampering her in order to curry favor so that she may bear their child next. Surrogate mothers would likely be super common in some places too, especially if their community's interpretation of the world's religion prevented them from practicing marriage in the first place. In a similar vein, how would civilizations be affected by the fact that the gender of their baby is determined by when they conceive, rather then chance (the period of time where girls can be made is significantly shorter - 1 year out of 3, to put in perspective) (another thing to keep in mind is that each trimester for them lasts a year in our time). Some cultures might have a majority of their women explicitly breed girls while a much smaller group makes males to do their slave work and to eventually mate with their daughters. A few things I've decided about this setting I particularly find interesting: the entire world is like a giant United States, where each nation is essentially a state with the power to decide their own laws within the confines of an overarching government's regulations. War to them is essentially a sport, where entire armies fight on the whims of the Emperor, partly for his entertainment but also to win resources that only he has access to that improves the quality of life in their nation dramatically. They have designated battlefields in every nation, some natural, others artificial, that are constantly cycled through (similar to the Olympics). People come from all over to witness these great battles and cheer on their respective armies. Some warriors train separately from the military specifically to slay terrifying monsters or in the art of single combat for wealth and fame in coliseums erected in every major city. Another thing to note, the Emperor is essentially a demi-god, possessing immense power and near-immortality. In a way he's kind of like a shardholder; his spirit is infused with a fragment of their (male) God's soul. If he conceives a child (no matter what season it is the Heir will always be a boy), a fragment of it is invested in his son and as he grows older it gradually saps more and more power from the Emperor until he becomes the stronger of the two. Once that happens the Heir becomes the Emperor and the previous Emperor retires, aging as he loses more until he eventually dies. Sometimes the son will want to reach full power and kill their father to obtain it immediately. Some Emperor's have refused to produce heirs so they can rule for centuries (usually they get sick of immortality or get assassinated by someone they trust), while others may have their own son immediately, if not before their ascension, so they can get rid of their rule sooner and live a relatively normal life. If the Emperor is killed with no Heir, the power transfers to their killer. Anyone can challenge the Emperor to a dual for a chance at ascending (throughout history only one person has ever succeeded, though that may just be a story). There's no limit to the number of people who can challenge him at once, so there is a precedence of the Emperor facing an entire army and still coming out victorious. Also, if the Emperor dies of some other cause (like suicide, or getting eaten by a monster) with no Heir, the power will jump to the person closest to him at the time (only their species can hold the power), both of which have happened before. If a Heir is killed his fragment of the power will return to the Emperor, or if there are multiple Heirs, to whoever is closest. If the Emperor dies the power will go to the closest Heir (as opposed to whoever is older) so there has been a case of a younger Heir murdering his father, then using his new found power to slay his brother to ascend fully. The Emperor will lose power quicker the more Heirs he has, and if he dies whichever Heir doesn't obtain the power will stop getting stronger / the new Emperor won't get weaker. Heirs usually spend their adolescence traveling the world, attending great balls ran by each nation where their hosts introduce him to the most beautiful women in the land (usually trained their whole lives for this moment) with hopes that he might take one as his wife. The nation that the Empress belongs to receives an increase in the amount of the aforementioned resource they receive every year that they are together. There's a Cinderella-esque tale of a Heir falling in love with a common woman, rescuing her from poverty and elevating her entire family along with her. I would love it if people asked what would happen in certain scenarios with this power, because there's a good chance there's things I've never thought of and I would love to expand on it, in addition to all other thoughts/ideas/implications of a society with these elements.
  14. Given Clanky was the one that figured out Hero was an Eliminator and was instrumental in having him strung up, it's pretty obvious he's a noble. I guess there's a chance it was all an intended fabrication to ensure that even if we somehow turned the game around that one of theirs would never be suspected, but I doubt that.
  15. Of the 12 players that died, 2 had shardplate. Both were villagers. Bort is 1 of 16 surviving players. I'm going to go ahead and assume 4 are eliminators; 6 including Ripple/Hero. I have no idea how many shardplates were distributed, but I will guess that there were 5, given that a total of 13 players have faced their mortality and of them 3 have been revealed (1 for every increment of 5 players). I think it's reasonable to suggest that at least 1 eliminator has shardplate as a result. If my guess is accurate, then that means there's about a 33.3% chance Bort is evil. That leaves a 66.6% chance he is innocent. You can also factor in the unlikelyhood of hitting one of the 2 noble shardbearers among 12 (16.67%), assuming Bort is a noble. Given how much we discussed WGGs after the first attempt on Kipper's life, the eliminators could have two mindsets. One, it would only make their target more suspicious because the ideas already out there. Or two, nobles would think the eliminators would think they think number one and therefore it actually helps reduce suspicion. Of course, this math could be utterly irrelevant. Maybe our shardbearers have just been extremely unlucky. I can't remember Bort doing anything particularly memorable this game, which in my mind makes him more suspicious now given how everyone who came off as odd to me turned out to be my kin. Me sucking hardcore at this game and being wrong about almost everyone is a pretty poor reason to place blame on someone else, though. Tangent aside, given how unassuming Bort is, I don't understand why the eliminators would target him over someone more dangerous to their cause if he is innocent. I already know they won't kill me because I am doing too good of a job killing my peers as is; they'd be better off leaving me do my thing while they kill others and let me accrue my own suspicion so I can get lynched. At this point it could just be a matter of numbers to them. They are currently halfway to victory, with us only a third of the way. So maybe they just chose him at random. But if I were them, I probably would have killed Araris since he's the second most considered noble and that would only reinforce suspicions against me and other players who were vocal against him (unless he is indeed an Eliminator). At this point, Clanky is the only person I trust, but he has zero reason to trust me. I really wish the ardent had scanned me a long time ago so I could be cleared for the secret circle of nobles working together to root out the evils, if there even is one. At the moment (excluding Clanky and I who I know are nobles) 28.5% of whose still alive are conspirators, so really I feel useless because I'm isolated, which is a part of the reason why I haven't been as talkative, in addition to IRL events. So, anyway, the point of this post: what does everyone think about Bort? Any ideas for what I can do to earn trust? Also, Clanky, is there anyone you are absolutely sure is innocent?
  16. If another attack was made, I forsee three options: Would-be-victim was protected by Honor/Lashing (in which case they would be informed of the attack / that they were saved) Would-be-victim was Preservation (or Survival) or protected by Survival (same case as above) Would-be-victim was protected by their own Lifeless or another's (I assume the Operator is informed of the death) In all of these situations I don't believe the identity of the attacker would be revealed, so it's not a lead that can be followed thoroughly enough unless the would-be-victim has an idea of who would attack them, which seems unlikely this early because most likely the target was one of the more experienced players that the OCs know will be better off dead sooner rather than later.
  17. Well, I think that I am mostly lost, but that's because there's so many conversations going on that I have no access to, so I'm currently attempting to put some pieces together (such as who Wilson might have been referring to that knew Orlok's identity). So, it sucks Winter was killed by a bloodsealer; I am curious how they knew she was Ruin, and whether or not they are evil. As for Devotion being shattered, that means we can't obtain alternate (minor) roles now based on our world, right? If not, which is the most active so that I can get more involved?
  18. My suspicion of Winter was a combination of the fact that despite her being among the more experienced players it didn't seem like she was ever a target of the Eliminators (either by those known and those working in secret) and the fact that she was using a passive/neutral style of play but posting frequently enough to remain among the most active players, which seemed to me like a comfortable position for a conspirator.
  19. I want to appologize for my absence. I haven't had enough time to really sit down and type something significant up. Honestly I still don't, but I will try to add some input as well as a vote. I'm sorry, Winter, but I just can't shake my suspicions of you. A lot of it is just this nagging feeling I get in the back of my head whenever I read a post of yours. Maybe it is just a product of the style of play you're using this game. It certainly is a factor, but not entirely the problem. The fact of the matter is, you are one of the more experienced people here, and certainly among the most active in this particular game, and yet I feel like you haven't really made much of an impact on the game, let alone a positive one. Aside from the back and forth you had with Raven on Day One I don't think you've voted once. On top of that you don't really give any solid input on any potential lynch-targets despite your frequent presence. I could be wrong because it's been a little bit since I've reread everything, but I recall you being almost entirely neutral since this game began, except in the case of the protect the seeker conversation early on, which also strikes me as odd. You opposed it because you believe that taking advantage of the roles like that lessens the fun of the game, but the passive playstyle you're doing to me seems equally unfun to me. I just personally believe that at least one of the most vocal players in the game has to be an Eliminator, and of them you stick out the most. I could probably explain this a lot better, maybe even more thoroughly, but I'm short on time and mentally exhausted. If I end up getting you killed and you're innocent I'm going to feel especially bad because you just died in the LG too, but I think the chances of you being evil are way too high for me not to, and given how behind we are something needs to change.
  20. Just got promoted to Sergeant, one step closer to world domination
  21. Is it just me or are we losing very badly right now? Between all the lynches, assassinations and Conspirator kills, we have lost most of our more vocal players, which I think has contributed into the lull of activity and, thus, lack of leads. From what I have observed I am nearly convinced that Hero, Winter and Paranoid are three of the remaining badguys. I was planning on placing a vote on Paranoid this turn, however, given the aforementioned information I had just received from Clanky, his theory has my full support. At this point in time I think it's pretty much essential that Hero is strung up, evil or innocent, as it should provide the most leads either way.
