There's a lot of single votes being thrown around right now, which is really counterproductive to accomplishing anything. If we don't want to waste the day, we are going have to focus on someone.

@Mailliw73: I've expressed suspicion towards yourself, herowannabe, TheMightyLopen, and even Adamir (albeit minimaly), in addition to STINK, so it could be any of those other four, really. I'll note that the aforementioned PM was sent prior to wilson's announcement not to exchange roles. A bit ironic how it came up both publicly and privately by separate people within a twenty minute timeframe, though. Likely just a coincidence.

Is it just me, or is it suspicious if a player PMs you shortly after you suggest they might be an Eliminator in order to build a repertoire and then after a few messages asks for you to tell them your role in exchange for him telling you his?

When I was living in Japan, I would take selfies with people asleep on the trains and challenge my friends to do the same. This is one of the few I could find.

I want to be wrong about you STINK; I really do. I am withholding my vote because I am not entirely convinced you're one of them. I will say that you're vote is both tactical and bold, and while what you suggest certainly is a possibility, I don't find it probable. At least, it's less probable than my theory that they're trying to take advantage of the "meta" and rid themselves of one of their biggest threats early on in the game. If I were you (and innocent), I might do the same thing to save myself. But I certainly would have saved it as a last resort, bringing up the point you present but also trying to find an alternative before jumping conclusions. You're defensive posturing, to me, could mean one of two things; you really don't like being accused (especially this early, which I can sympathize with 100%) and you are naturally aggressive, or you are desperate and attempting to secure the Eliminator's original plan of ridding themselves of little wilson. I suspect I will learn a lot once this turn is over, whether we lynch you or Brightness Katara. III EDIT: I don't know whether to take you retracting your vote as you listening to reason, or seeing the inevitability of a lynch and hoping that by feigning the first you may get some people to back off. For now I will accept the former. I should note that I am an optimist with severe trust issues, so I immediately begin to find ways to interpret every action as amiable or malicious and that makes me rather conflicted.

@Blaze1616: No, it was not his Elantrian form. He had prepared an ordinary Raoden illusion and wore it underneath the Kaloo one in case of an emergency. Essentially what occurred was, after Lord Roial being stabbed, he leapt on top of a table, dismissed his Kaloo illusion to reveal that he was actually Raoden, then scared Telrii's guards off by proclaiming himself the Crown Prince and ran to his mortally wounded friend in order to try and heal him using the appropriate aon. Though Lord Roial did recognize qualities in Kaloo that would make him an asset to the team, he never identified him as Raoden prior to his aforementioned reveal.

This is my first game (here and anywhere) but from what research I have done, I am also in support of a Day 1 lynch. If we delay action then the Eliminators could get a step ahead of us; however, at the same time, whoever they kill in the night could potentially give us a clue (say, if tomorrow I were to wake up dead, there's a chance I struck a nerve with my suspicions and that would help narrow down the threat) so we may not need to risk an innocent. Then again, they could also just target an inactive player and leave us with no clues, and continue to do so until they run out of easy targets or get the pool of Nobles so low that they can take out the remaining few with little opposition. I'm going to go ahead and assume (for now) that the Eliminators have two Brightlord/lady's and that they explicitly targeted Brightness Katara (little wilson) because she was not a part of their crew and they recognized her as a danger, and as such, support her innocence. Brightlord Wannan's (herowannabe) accusation of Caeserae (Adamir) seems contrived to me. The leap he makes about him devoting his attention to the eliminator doc because he hasn't posted since his introduction (given it's only been one turn) is a huge red flag for me. But at the same time, Adamir's "power cut" could just be an excuse to inspire sympathy in an attempt to get us off track. Finally, STINK's enmity towards Day 1 lynches could easily be a ruse so him and his fellows can get the upper hand. It could also be his honest opinion and his argument does have some validity. But his sudden declaration of "I'm not an eliminator, maybe you are for accusing me" (I'm paraphrasing, of course) sounds like a classic Eliminator tactic. At the same time, maybe Araris' is indeed an Eliminator and he/she simply jumped on the first opportunity she saw to seed chaos in the discussion. I think it's been decided by the majority (of people posting) that we will indeed be conducting a Day 1 Lynch. I can understand TheMightyLopen's hesitance as I myself am not keen on the idea of condemning someone without more information, however, I have every intention of voting on whoever I suspect the most at the end of the day. I am a firm believer in being proactive as opposed to reactive, and that you learn better by making mistakes then doing nothing at all. Right now, I'm most suspicious of STINK (and TheMightyLopen by association as he could attempting to run interference so his associate doesn't get overrun). I'm about 45% certain he's an Eliminator at this point, and that will likely increase if he continues to resist a Day 1 Lynch, or triggers any other red flags in my mind. III Edit: Not sure what to make of herowannabe's flip. Gut feeling says he jumped the gun too early for a reason. Maybe this was his plan all along, to wantonly accuse one of his fellow Eliminators and retract his vote to lessen suspicion of them both... or maybe he was just over eager at the time and now that Adamir has provided a reason, he's changed his mind. I'd say my suspicion of him has dropped down to 20%... but that's still enough for me to be wary. I'm watching you, crazy Diagramist.

I'm not ready to vote for Mallan just yet; I don't think basing assumptions purely on an RP post is wise, especially so early. I will need to observe the man more before I condemn him to death. Seems too permanent a solution for minor suspicion. On that note, however, I am inclined to agree with Araris. Given that IrulelikeSTINK has 11 posts, I'm under the impression that he has not participated in one of these games before. Seems almost like he is being told to say that Day 1 lynches are bad by a more experienced (fellow) eliminator. Could be he's just well informed, or it could be he's a figurehead / scapegoat sent by Sadeas' more sinister manipulators to get us off their trail... (Again, I'm not going to waste today's vote just yet. I would like to hear more ideas first)

Was going to post this on Night 1 right before Renegade declared it closed, so I'm just putting it in a spoiler tag so my effort and introduction wasn't wasted. Given how little we know of each other so far, I will express my suspicions towards Brightlord Mallan. Perhaps he is genuine, however I think it should be looked into. Old age and the death of a loved one can certainly weaken a person's mind, but it can also warp it to perceive reality differently; nefariously, even. Besides, it's possible memory loss could be a byproduct of insanity, and I'm sure we all know what crazy people are capable of. As Efrihm states, it's too soon to tell, so I'm not necessarily demanding he be lynched already, just considered. I know absolutely nothing of Brightness Katara, or little wilson's past experiences, so I'm afraid I can't weigh in much on that subject.

@Blaze1616: When Raoden was eventually forced to reveal himself, not a single person doubted it was him. Only Hrathen mentioned in his chapter following his return that Sarene must have found an imposter and was using him to gain an upper hand, and everyone else was "fooled." I'm certain that if Raoden had came out to his group of conspirators with the whole truth, providing personal details from their experiences together that only he would know, they would have had no doubts. As for the general populace, with all of the recent turbulence they accepted Raoden's return immediately, and even after Dilaf destroyed his illusion they still supported his reign, albeit not without the princess' speech first. Technically, him telling the citizens of Kae that he was locked up by Iadon was not even false, either, for he was the one who sent his son into the city upon discovering the change. The fact is, after pretending to be a Dula refugee and suddenly revealing his true identity after an unnecessary tragedy ocurred / to save the day, not a single one of his friends / colleagues were suspicious. There would have been no harm, or at least significantly less, if he just came to them first and told them the truth. @Oudeis: Not once did he ever consider himself lesser than he was during his time in Elantris. Though he thought himself weaker then most prior to him understanding what the AonDor was doing to him, he never abandoned his eternal optimism. His only stated excuse for not telling the Elantrians his identity was so that they would not choose to follow him simply because he was the Crown Prince, but because in their hearts they knew he would lead them to salvation. I don't really buy the whole identity crisis thing, because in every internal monologue relating to his subterfuge, he explicitly states this.
-
@Seana: Though it doesn't state his reasoning, I suppose it's possible that he thought he was abandoning his fellow Elantrians by declaring himself, however, I'm pretty certain that he could have handled both at once; to have used his power as King to eliminate the stigma related to the city and even enlisted the help of others to solve the mystery of how to restore them to full power. As for wanting to see what Sarene's reaction would be, that seems uncharacteristically immature for his character. @king of nowhere: He created an illusion that made him look like he did prior to being taken by the Shaod. He could have easily made his presence known without ever declaring himself an Elantrian. He could have easily made an excuse, perhaps even gone with Saren's original assumption that Iadon had locked him up somewhere, and he was only able to get free after his death. It wouldn't be the first time he lied to accomplish his mission. On that note, I agree. Raoden isn't perfect, though it does seem sometimes that Mr. Sanderson designed him to be. My point is that he chose to return to Kae and intervene with the current political going ons either way, and that he should have understood that just being him would have accomplished so much more much quickly.
-
I'm not sure if this has been addressed before, but I've just finished rereading Part 2 of Elantris and I'm a bit apprehensive about Kaloo. I am curious to hear other Sharder's opinions / feelings on the matter.

If it's not too late to throw down, I will be playing as Efrihm, adopted son of Lord Demitre Valdev, a 7th dahn nobleman serving under Highprince Dalinar. Despite his non-alethi heritage, Efrihm is generally well accepted by his peers. Given that Lord Valdev is sterile, he has raised Efrihm to someday take his place as the head of his House. Efrihm himself is an amiable fellow with the ability to befriend most anyone. He has pale green eyes and is known for his signature half grin.

Aspiring writer seeking feedback (novel excerpts)
Amanuensis replied to Amanuensis's topic in Creator's Corner
That was a part of what I meant by grammatical eccentricities. Characters from the United Kingdom would use their spelling while Americans use theirs. Personally I think the differences are minor enough that people should not have any trouble adapting back and forth, and it adds a distinct flavor / realisticness to it. At one point I toyed with having Mason (a character with a significantly less than average education) write in slang (I.E. the g at the end of words like something is replaced with an apostrophe) though it got to the point where the entire document was covered in red squiglies and I decided that his abrupt sentence structure would be enough to differentiate him, compared to someone like Reid who views the world in purple prose.- 4 replies

Aspiring writer seeking feedback (novel excerpts)
Amanuensis replied to Amanuensis's topic in Creator's Corner
I'm also adding Mason's first chapter, to illustrate what I mean by the drastic changes in character voices. I would love some opinions on whether this would be a turn off (having a book that hops from a character with high levels of education to one with significantly less and having their chapters written stylistically different as a result) or if it is an interesting method / enough of a novetly that it wouldn't affect the audience too significantly. Greetings fellow Sanderfans, Many years ago I began play-by-post roleplaying, and from that little hobby began to develop my own voice and ideas. I realize, however, that if I want to improve then I am in severe need of feedback. Considering we all have similar tastes in literature, I figured this would be the best place to seek it out. Though the first book is currently unnamed, the tentative title of the series is the Renaissance Saga, or Red Renaissance. It takes place on our world, several years after what scientists theorize is a tiny, hypervelocity star collides with our sun, triggering a luminous red nova. As the sun expands to consume Mercury, a solar pulse of energy permeates space, shattering Venus and nearly annihilating Earth. Thanks to our planet's atmosphere it manages to resist most of the damage, but we take severe casualties, losing a third of our world's population in the initial burst and millions more during the aftermath. In the wake of this event, the sun becomes blood red and a new element is introduced to Earth's thermosphere, transforming the sky into a lustrous silver. United by this international disaster, the surviving governments of the world come together to form what they call the Global Coalition. As one force dedicated to the recovery of humanity, they restabilize civilization and it seems life may return to normal. Only things are not so simple anymore, as some people begin to develop supernatural abilities. In vain of A Song and Ice and Fire, the series follows multiple characters scattered across the world and each chapter is named for them, though the title also includes information such as the date and their location, since setting shifts and flash backs will be rather prominent. Reckoners fans may be intrigued by this concept, however I should mention that it possesses a more mature narrative. Some of the characters struggles, especially in the beginning, are less action oriented and focused on internal dilemmas instead. A big element of the development of these abilities is that they are connected to the person's character fundamentally; I.E. a Marine who believed he was invincible now has skin harder than diamond but is also incapable of feeling, or a young woman whose felt invisible her entire life is slowly fading from existence more each day, becoming a ghost both in body and in memory. Anyway, I'll just add the first chapter of what I guess you could call the "primary" primary character. I would appreciate any opinions and feedback, especially regarding the flow of the story. I am attempting this series in first person because I think it would help the readers identify with each characters individual story and unique perspective. Though I am American, Reid was born and raised in England so I try to utilize british terminology and gramatical eccentricities. If any inconsistencies are noticed, or you see anything that feels unnatural / could be improved upon, please bring it to my attention. I am mostly looking for constructive comments, however if you like what you see statements of a purely positive nature are welcome, as I could always use the morale boost when writer's block rears its ugly head. Thank you very much. Reid 1.docx

@phattemer: Is there already information available regarding this MRG8? If so, where can I find it? @Amrynn: I will certainly look into it; from what little I've already seen of the Knights Awkward, it seems like it may be a fine fit for me. @Kipper: The gentleman in me feels obliged to accept, however upon perusing these fine forums it seems that these cookies may be a trap, so it goes without saying I'm a tad bit aprehensive...
-
I think my perspective on that is skewed because I am nearing my 23rd birthday and still am ridiculed for looking like a 15 year old. In any case, I see where you're coming from. I personally am unaffected by this, because even if Rosharian's are referred to as humans, the fact is they're not. Even if they were created by a Shard to be humans originally, I highly doubt it could create a 1:1 carbon copy; likely a lot of physical / developmental characteristics were either altered accidently or intentionally in order to ensure the species could survive in this particular environment.

Pulse is right; I'm not entirely sure where, however I distinctly remember it being mentioned (maybe in WoR?) that every other year is either "heavy" or "light" (heavy years have Highstorms during the Weeping, light do not), and that age is actually measured in Weepings rather how long it takes for Roshar to orbit its sun. Realistically, it is impossible for any other planet to measure time / age the exact same as us (which is a personal pet peeve of mine in fantasy). I'm unsure why Maxal is so vehement towards this discussion. In the case of Kaladin I think it makes a lot of sense especially. Considering how efficient he is in combat (disregarding Stormlight, since I believe Mr. Sanderson said either in the books or out of them that it doesn't give him his skill with a spear, only enhances what skills he already has), it makes more sense that he is 23 rather than a teenager. We already know he's one-in-a-million since he managed to attract an Honorspren in the first place, but to say someone that young has accomplished all the things he has in the span of the books is fairly ridiculous. As for Lift, I remember a quote along the lines of she only refers to herself as 10 because she thinks any number higher than she can count on her fingers is bad luck, and she is actually several years older. All tangents aside... Ultimately the solar year doesn't really matter, unless the graviational pull of the sun in relation to the distance/location of the world in orbit actually has an effect on the Highstorms, and therefore the weepings align accordingly. Honestly I've always wondered if the Highstorms always plagued Roshar or if they came into being along with the Stormfather (or perhaps another event). Could anyone tell me if this has been answered by Mr. Sanderson already?

@phattemer: No, I was not aware of Alvron; he's the first person I've heard of with a handle so close to my own haha. I started roleplaying when I was thirteen and that became my primary hobby for many years, along with reading, so I will for sure look into Sanderson Elimination and hopefully participate! Will review the rules and everything as soon as I get the chance. @Alvron: Thanks Alv. I hope if I participate it won't cause significant confusion. I think our profile pictures being so drastically different will help to aleviate any potential mix ups. @Kipper: I value my life (and by extension, the life of my characters, since seeded within each one of them is a Sliver of myself) so I look forward to trying very hard for you to not kill me. Also, that depends entirely on the type of cookie. @The Potato: Maybe I can use it to attract a Cryptic, then.

Greetings fellow Sanderfans, I'll admit I've been perusing this website for some time now, and on a whim finally decided to register and interact with the community. I won't bother mentioning my real name as to not confuse anyone, so you can refer to me as Alvom, or Al for short (assuming there's no other Al's wandering about). A little bit about myself; I grew up in a small town in Connecticut, though I have been living overseas for nearly three years now. I was in Japan for the first two, and now I'm in southern Africa (I'm based out of Joburg but currently am working in a bordering country (I won't say where for operational security). I still have ~9 months to spend here until I move on to my next continent (aiming for South America; preferably Lima, Peru), but because of my profession's nature I could go absolutely anywhere. I'm addicted to becoming immersed in cultures that are vastly different than the US' because of how eye opening, and occasionally humbling, it can be. From an aspiring novelists perspective I think it is much better to physical see and experience the diverse cultures of Earth to better aid in worldbuilding for my own stories. Around this time last year was when I came upon Way of Kings. Needless to say it was love at first sight, and since then I have read Words of Radiance, the (1st) Mistborn Trilogy, Elantris, Warbraker, Sixth of the Dusk, the Emperor's Soul, Steelheart, Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell and Perfect State, in that order, with multiple rereads of my favorites inbetween. I am very eager for the next installment of Stormlight Archive, as it is my favorite fantasy world / series that I have read thus far. I am a passionate reader and usually finish a new book every week, though of all the authors I follow, Mr. Sanderson is at the very top. Anyway, I look forward to getting to know, and speculating along with, all of you. I apologize in advance for the length of this introduction.
