Long Game 16: The Empty Throne Part 2: The Catacombs
Amanuensis replied to Alvron's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Makes sense. I wonder if everyone who voted did the same thing or if this was a Shadow Leaders doing. Either way I'm happy. Also, I meant to RP this too, but I don't have the time right now and would rather say this sooner. If you're a Rookie, I ask that you choose me as your Mentor. That way just in case I die we don't lose what might be the only one of my role. If you have not figured out that I have been dropping hints in my profile feed the last three games; well you all know now.- 529 replies

Quick Fix Game 12: The Time of Reckoning
Amanuensis replied to phattemer's topic in Sanderson Elimination
(0) Lopen: Steph (1), (2) Mailliw: BB (1), Kipper (1), PK (4), (1) BB: Ripple (1), (0) Clanky: PK (1), PK (3), Hell (1), (0) Ripple: Ada (1), PK (2), (1) Ada: Clanky (1), (0) Kipper: Ada (2), (3) Rae: Kipper (2), Hell (2), Adavantos (3), If I don't ensure someone receives at least three votes, I suspect the Reckoner!Illusionist is going to try and get me killed with one of the players with Magnified Persuasion again. I can't vote for Mailliw because if they take PK's vote and move it to me it'd leave only 2 votes on him and 3 on me. Unfortunately I have no choice but to vote for Arraenae; that way if the Reckoners attempt this again and decide not to attack me, I'll at least have a 50% chance of survival. That being said, I doubt I'll make it past this round. So if this is the last message for me to send, I just want to apologize to everyone for not getting a Reckoner already. I really was trying to kill them for you guys, but once again I let my kindness get the best of me and backed off the people who I really think did deserve to be my targets, hoping that my minor suspicions who seemed to be laying low would be the real threats. Here's to hoping my target tonight is at least right. Guess I'll see you all in the after life. I wanted to post this right before turnover to keep the Reckoners from reacting, but I'm exhausted and really need to go to bed.- 366 replies

Long Game 16: The Empty Throne Part 2: The Catacombs
Amanuensis replied to Alvron's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Right. This is why I thought about suggesting we take a minimalist approach at first, so that it forces them to use their Bodysnatch earlier on and on their targets so that when they finally run out of them it should still be easy to pick how who made the kill. It's a viable path to take, if we agree it's ideal. Though I do think there are some roles out there where it's better they use their ability regardless.- 529 replies

Quick Fix Game 12: The Time of Reckoning
Amanuensis replied to phattemer's topic in Sanderson Elimination
So then you'd make four players with Heat Vision, which in its own right is relatively suspicious. Now, I want to believe you because I called Orlok D1, and I'd rather be right about him being evil like I was so confident of to begin with. I've consciously tried to step back from him so that I could ensure I wasn't tunneling, but my gut suspicion still hasn't left me. That being said, I don't necessarily trust you either. But I certainly trust you more than him at the moment. Especially now that PK and Steph have admitted to having Invisibility. It does seem very weird to me, however, that both have the exact same ability combination; but considering Clanky and I do too, and that I know I'm not a Reckoner and don't believe he is either, I guess it's possible they could both good, or maybe even both evil. PK could be the actual Reckoner with Invisibility whereas Steph is just supporting his claim to get Clanky lynched, while tonight they kill me and thus remove any night attacks on them while gaining lynch superiority with their Illusionist and 2x Magnified Persuasion. But that's just a theory; dunno how accurate it is. And I guess we won't know for sure until they die. Honestly I have a lot of mixed feelings about who I should attack tonight. What does everyone think? There's a lot of statements that are conflicting with one another. We really need to tease out whose lying and whose telling the truth so we can take action sooner rather than later.- 366 replies

Long Game 16: The Empty Throne Part 2: The Catacombs
Amanuensis replied to Alvron's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I'm not trying to say that people shouldn't poke vote, or even pursue their own suspicious before the majority. Just that unless it directly affects the lynch by the end of the Day Turn they should remove their vote it to make it harder for the Traitors to hide. As for bodysnatching how the Traitors decide to do it is entirely up to them, and all we can really do is speculate for now and react when the time comes. I am just trying to be proactive in discussing it, since it was a thought that crossed my mind while reading the rules / I don't really have much to analyze quite yet. I do, however, think Meta is being a bit more aggressive than usual. Then again I haven't really played with him often enough to truly know if it's out of character. Would appreciate it if anyone more familiar with him can weigh in on the matter, as it seems the only people who have commented on it (Mark, Elbereth and yourself) are very new and haven't played with him yet (I don't think).- 529 replies

Long Game 16: The Empty Throne Part 2: The Catacombs
Amanuensis replied to Alvron's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Good point. I had not even considered them snatching up the lynch. Thought it was more like the Janitor role in ToS, hence why I asked if the Traitors would get the information when we would not (Janitor can see the role because they physically remove & presumably examine the corpse themselves). Something I just noticed while reading the rules again; Serial Killers vote will not count if they decide to kill someone during the Day Turn. So my plan to make it harder for eliminators to hide makes it easier for the SK to, as they can just disappear among all the people who do not vote. That being said, I would rather the SK be able to hide for awhile rather than the Traitors; the SK (assuming there is one) is just a single player. Eliminating him only takes one lynch or assassination attempt. Eliminating the Traitors will take several, so they need to be our main priority, similar to how the Diagrammists should have been in MR10.- 529 replies

Long Game 16: The Empty Throne Part 2: The Catacombs
Amanuensis replied to Alvron's topic in Sanderson Elimination
While I mentioned the negatives of it to the eliminators, I in no way said or implied that it outweighed the advantages. This, to me, seems to be misdirection. How is them killing the Mortician early a bad thing for them? That role scans corpses to see everyone who ever visited them. The most ideal thing for them would be to kill all Morticians ASAP, whether or not they know about it. Once again, you blatantly misunderstood what I said. I responded to Twei saying that players should use they're power however they sit fit. The only thing I advocated is that all players take their poke votes off before the end of every day turn, making it harder for the Traitors to hide their kills through votes. Just realized you could be saying this generally. Confused it for another comment directed at me. Sorry. EDITED TO ADD EXTRA LINE AND RP After a decade of living in darkness, it felt good for Michael to feel sunlight on his skin; for his weathered, leathery face to tingle with the star's warmth. He just wished he could see again. To witness the sunrise one more time. At least then, after this was all said and done, he could die happy. Unfortunately he could only bask in the daylight for so long. Even with Steelheart and Nightwielder dead, he still had work to do. The leaders made sure of that. After he finished his circuit around what overstreets of Newcago he was still familiar enough with to navigate, he retreated into the Catacombs in search of Kali. As expected, Michael found her in her personal chambers, leaning over a desk at the farthest corner of the room. If Michael tried, he might be able to explain how he could sense the presence of others. Some thought this talent made him an Epic, but he knew and often told people otherwise. He developed that skill long before Calamity brought those demons to Earth. It was something else; something natural. A byproduct of his blindness. Before entering the room, Michael banged his cane on Kali's door. Instantly she recognized the distinct crack it made and called for him to enter. "Mr. Durbin; come in, but make it quick. Can't you see I'm busy?" Michael ignored the comment. Of course he couldn't see she was busy. But he certainly could sense it, stress emanating from her body, thickening the air, so viscous he could hardly breathe. He decided to get straight to the point. "Kali, I need a favor." She didn't answer, but shifted her posture, rising from her bent position and crossing her arms. Good. She was listening. "Send out word that I'm looking for a Bodyguard, and a bloody good and trustworthy one at that. Have them contact me tonight if you can. I know things, Kali, dangerous things. And the Traitors... I know they know I know. And you know that though I am old and blind, I have access to resources most others don't. If I'm going to find those Calamity-damned turncoats, then we're going to need me kept safe and free to work." Kali grunted. "Back to your old ways of prying into other people's business, then?" "Old ways? Hah. When did I ever stop?" She flashed a half grin, then nodded. Michael bowed his head in thanks and left. Of course this meant the Traitors would learn he was looking for protection. Likely it would prompt them into action, maybe force them to attack before he could gain trust... perhaps even try to apply themselves as a Bodyguard to gain his. Calamity let them. He expected it. Was prepared for it. Hell, he was even counting on it. EDITED TO ADD COUNTDOWN TIMER- 529 replies

Quick Fix Game 12: The Time of Reckoning
Amanuensis replied to phattemer's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Aha, so I was right about you being the Matter Disruptor who killed SD then. Mind explaining why you decided to attack Araris too, then? You're still being close minded though. I am just as surprised as you are that phatt gave us this many, assuming you're not just lying to save your skin. It didn't make sense that Elby attacked SD but it did make sense for you, so I think that you're an MD at least. I want to say you're an Epic too because you didn't go for a kill C1, but I can't help but wonder if you refrained for the long con specifically. My money's on all three of us being innocent though. Still convinced by your reaction to my High Epic comment. Phatt could have gave me my role knowing I would die early (I was attacked C1 by the Recockners after all) and decided to gift me a single buffer. I know some GMs will tend to balance games via the meta (see MR10 where Wilson gave polking Diagrammist Edgedancer guessing he'd go inactive). I'm guessing this is a similar situation here, because I know my alignment and your sudden turn around last cycle was very convincing for you to be a villager. That said, with two players with Invisibility and Magnified Perception coming out at the same time revealing matching results, I'm inclined to believe that at least one of them is good because I doubt the GM would give the Reckoners two extra votes and an Illusionist. So either they have no vote manipulation and just extras, they have all three to balance out our kill roles by giving them lynch favorability, or at least one of them if not two is innocent. Of the three known players with Invisibility, I suggest Orlok is most likely the evil one but it could also be PK. Unlike Steph, he went straight to the thread with his info instead of trying to get a PM first to protect himself. @Orlok: got any new result, or plan on sharing your last two?- 366 replies

Quick Fix Game 12: The Time of Reckoning

@PK: If you scanned a player who didn't do anything I think it's wise you say who. Sorry, I want to believe you, but Kyn can't confirm (alive or dead) and Clanky will likely deny whether you're telling the truth or not.- 366 replies

Long Game 16: The Empty Throne Part 2: The Catacombs
Amanuensis replied to Alvron's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Ahh, okay. So theoretically we could just refuse to vote for anyone or use any abilities so that the second a Mortician has a corpse to scan they'd know the identity of whoever attacked them without question. But like I said before, that'd be extremely unfun. So none of that. However what that DOES mean is that the Traitors are going to have to try and disguise their kills as votes or actions. Therefore I think it's essential that if you're a villager and you poke vote someone you remove it before the cycle ends. If it's not going to factor into the actual lynch just don't do it at all. Why? Let's say Traitor!Kynedath poke votes me D1 and never removes it. The Traitors then leave me alone for the first three cycles while several players decide to use their abilities on me. N4 Traitor!Kynedath puts the kill order in on me. He has the excuse of having voted for me C1 whereas the truly innocent players have to explain why they used an action on me. Automatically those players will seem more suspicious than Kyn, and even if they manage to get themselves out of the limelight by admitting their role openly and providing proof, we kill Kyn. Cool. Except now the Traitors have a mess of information (who has which roles) which allows them to be more tactical with their kills. Not too mention additional forms of manipulation they can do with this. Villager!Kynedath poke votes me D1. Traitor!Stink is a Beggar and checks who I visit N1. N4 he then puts a kill order on me and claims that he tracked me. Provides proof along with a living player he tracked N3. He's cleared, along with the villagers who used abilities on me, and we lynch Kyn; now what? Better that we make their lives as hard as possible, and to do that we need to coordinate. As for Traitors not learning the roles of people they Bodysnatch... good. Not only are their Bodysnatches limited, but it removes the info gained for everyone, which adds a sense of uncertainty that might keep them from using it. If they end up doing it, I think it would suggest they already knew said player's role and thus wanted to keep that information from the masses. Which brings me to my next point; PM safety. Practice it. If you're going to reveal your role to someone, ensure that you have some sort of contingency plan in place just in case. What I like to do is take two players I trust the most, tell one my role and the other that I told that person my role; that way if I die they can accuse each other of being the reason why I died so within two cycles (maybe one of the assassin attacks the other) we're down a traitor. Thing with that is I could always die to a fear kill and neither of those are actually evil. But that might not apply to everyone in this game. So it's an idea. Stop speaking nonsense. We both know you're brother's in Persepolis. How do you reckon a dusty old creature such as myself managed to travel over 2000 miles and back in a single night, let alone have the strength to kill an Epic? That's absurd. Go home to your family, kid. You're clearly in mourning and not thinking right." Quick Fix Game 12: The Time of Reckoning
Amanuensis replied to phattemer's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Arraenae, on 19 Jan 2016 - 02:42 AM, said: Three reasons. First, because of his first vote C1, which similar to Mail's this previous cycle had no explanation to it. Second, his post on C2 where he said he doesn't suspect any of the players who voted for Anamax, thinking it was more likely that all were Epics and the Reckoners just let it happen (suggested to me he was either trying to mislead us or had more information than the average player). Third, his post last cycle where he votes for BB (who was one of the players who voted on Anamax C1) which seemed to contradict his previous statement about that lynch. That and his comment about Mailliw surviving the lynch as unfortunate because it meant we'd like try again (which we did, and failed again). Okay so. Telepath #3, the one in contact with myself, Kipper and Mailliw, informed me last cycle that he is aware of the existence of a role that was not on the sign up list. I asked him how he knew that and which role, but he has yet replied. Now I think I understand. Either Kipper or Telepath #3 is Calamity himself or he's a Gifter, which would explain Mailliw receiving extra protection.- 366 replies

Quick Fix Game 12: The Time of Reckoning
Amanuensis replied to phattemer's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I attacked Araris. The write up seems to imply that Elbereth did as well. I fail to understand why the Reckoners would target her over Orlok or myself, though. Unless they somehow discovered her role through Invisibility, but that's impossible given she had Heat Vision. I don't get why they would have considered her enough of a problem to remove unless she was on the right track about something. Will go read over all her posts now. Only thing I can see she did was vote for Elkanah twice and declare that she trusted my alignment because of my earlier confidence that I was the only village kill role, which makes sense now that we know she was the other (thought it was Clanky =\). Anyway, I think it's pretty obvious now that Mailliw is either a Forcefield Projector or a Reckoner with one on his team. I want to point out to everyone that when he placed his vote on Bridge Boy he never green'd his on me, which is why it shows he voted for me. I do not believe this was a mistake. I believe it was an intentional move on his part, knowing that they had an Illusionist on their team to move a player who claimed Magnified Persuasion to try and get me killed. Knowing Mailliw was safe, this plan would either stall us for another round or get me lynched, opening their kill up for another villager. Mailliw surviving the lynch twice, in my mind, confirms my theory about the Reckoners having a Forcefield Projector (where you at Prof?), which as I mentioned earlier would help balance us having two village kill roles. I feel that if Mailliw was a self-targetting Epic Forcefield Projector he would make an effort to be more useful, since it'd make him invincible to their kills, allowing him to attract the right kind of attention - their kills - and not the wrong kind - the lynch - without worry. I also want to say that my suspicions of Orlok have redoubled again. Personally I was not satisfied with the way he revealed his results. I am also suspicious of Ripple due to her encouragement that he keep critical information a secret, and because I saw her watching the thread during turnover when she has been barely active this game. I saw Elbereth too and thought the same thing, but knowing she was the other MD it makes sense that she would be more invested to see the results; because she put a kill order in. Call me crazy, but I don't even think Orlok is what he claims to be. Refusing to reveal half his information and being incredibly vague about the other half? It seems more like he's trying to fabricate information so that we keep him alive then actually do something to help us.- 366 replies

Quick Fix Game 12: The Time of Reckoning
Amanuensis replied to phattemer's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I actually was working on a post right now to detail what seems off about you for me, since I saw you viewing the thread a moment ago. I'll go ahead and say that for obvious reasons I'm suspicious of everybody. Clanky's probably the only person I would dare to trust, and that's only due to his reaction about the High Epic comment I made last cycle. I probably won't bother to analyze everything you've said so far but from what I remember from LG15b you were not nearly this involved in the lynches, especially early on. What first caught my attention was your vote on Orlok for letting everyone know that he was attacked. There should be no reason to hide that (which reminds me, whoever survived the Reckoner attack last night, please tell the thread ASAP). Later on, you leapt headlong into the lynch mob against me because I was confusing you. In LG15b I remember you did not hesitate to ask me questions if you didn't understand something, so I don't understand what's different this game. Now it's the next cycle and you jump on another lynch train, this time on Mailliw, the person who nearly got lynched over me, the player you tried to get killed last cycle. I get that it could be because you have Magnified Persuasion and just want to take advantage of your ability, but right now I'm getting the feeling you're just trying to cement the lynch on any villager you can. I guess I just expected you would be more considerate with who you try to send to the grave. So far I haven't seen anything that might suggest that, and needless to say, it concerns me. Only in C1 did you not participate; but right now my theory is you were told not to get involved in the lynch on Venture because at least one of your team members was already voting for him by the time you got online. Also, the only time I can remember Mailliw doing something like this is in QF10, when he would one-word-vote the players he was going to have his team kill that cycle.- 366 replies

Long Game 16: The Empty Throne Part 2: The Catacombs
Amanuensis replied to Alvron's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I've thought about this a bit and I think I'm going to suggest it should be up to each individual player. If someone believes using their ability is worth potentially implicating themselves then they should. The chances of a player using their ability on the same player that is attacked by the Traitors is low enough that I really don't think it's necessary. When I first considered this, I was going to agree and suggest we took it a step further, but what I was going to bring up would have effectively broken the game (assuming I understand the rules correctly) at the expense of us having fun. Still, I want to confirm this with the GM as the relevant question has some other implications. @Alvron: Will all votes cast, even if retracted, show up on a corpse examined by a Mortician? Or only those that are active when the turn is closed? Also, @Alvron: Do the Traitors learn the roles of the players they Bodysnatch, or are they just as clueless as we are?- 529 replies
