  1. Oneiromancy. Nice. Somebody likes obscure words. Dont get me wrong, I love it. After all, I did just learn a new word.
  2. I honestly couldnt tell you which version I read originally. I was one of the first people to get the hardback from my library when it first came out. Maybe I did read the original ending, and just supplanted it with the tweaked ending after rereading. Either way, he succeeded in his intention (with me anyway) of it not making a difference whether or not Szeth died, or almost died.
  3. Yeah, it took me a while to realize that Sazed tapping his stored strength saving Vin, and Wax making himself lighter/heavier were the same type of magic. Still a facepalm moment remembering how lost I was with feruchemy.
  4. Oh yeah, for sure. I highly doubt any soldiers from either the beginning or middle of a Desolation lives to see the end. Most likely the reason they get married so young too, true. Dont know how psycho she is. But, she is pretty wasteful. Seems like either she doesnt care, or cant be brought to, about the poor and starving in her city. She surrounds herself with sycophants and yes (wo)men. And IIRC, the last we heard, Kholinar wasnt doing too well (uprising/revolt? Cant remember). You could just write her off as a pretty little princess character who is meant to fail, but I haven't seen any of those from Brandon as of yet.
  5. To those types of people I usually say ' Yeah, I dont read nonfiction because I read to escape the world around me. So why would I want to read about the world around me?' Then I proceed to tell them, with the most pity I can muster, that I feel sorry for them because they have no idea what they're missing out on. I literally feel sad if I try to picture myself not finding Sanderson books.
  6. Thats not a lack of free will. For it to be a lack of free will there would need to be something literally forcing him to go against his will. There is no such factor. He is choosing to obey the rules of the Oathstone, based on his beliefs. All he is doing is trying to give up responsibility for his actions by surrendering to the rules of the Oathstone. Giving up responsibility is not losing free will.
  7. This makes me believe he will actually turn out to be an Edgedancer. Which I think would be awesome. Really, I just wanna see an Edgedancer in action.
  8. I was thinking the same thing. It'd be infinitely better to fight as a Radiant, because it doesnt seem as if 'common' soldiers are getting a pass. As for Szeth, notreally too concerned if hes punished or not. Only person I wanted punished was Sadeas. And he got his.
  9. Meh dont feel too bad. I thought it said the same thing.
  10. So, along tht same vein. If someone from Nalthis burned aluminum, but only had their single Breath they were born with, the aluminum would do nothing? Even though its a form of Investiture? How come that isnt also true for an allomancer who views the metals as part of themselves, no matter the amount of time spent inside of them? I know its all just a guessing game really, just genuinely curious.
  11. Well, I have to say, you have successfully confused the living hell out of me. Im gonna have to go over this a lot before I even begin to grasp it. Just to be clear, I dont think its your fault that Im confused. Already had a bit of difficulty understanding alloys and how they combine and what they do.
  12. Man I dont understand how you guys can just remember the signs/symbols for metals off the top of your heads. Just tell me you didnt, so, ya know, I can feel better about my lack of knowledge on the subject.
  13. Im right there with ya.
  14. Same with The Gathering Storm. I didnt even realize it was a different author until A Memory of Light. Saw it was Sanderson. Picked up AoL from my library (which has almost all the Cosmere novels, minus Elantris). Loved it. Its been a black hole of Sanderson ever since.Fav: Toss up. Mistborn series or SA. I really cant choose.
  15. HA! I could picture Wayne doing this, just to screw with peoples minds.
  16. I always thought it was a whale. Granted only ever heard it reffered to as Jonah & the Whale.
  17. I didnt even know what a Koloss was, because I read AoL before any other Cosmere work. My only insight was from the pieces of news articles in the periodicles. Then I read Mistborn and was even more confused . I didnt understand a lot until I found 17th Shard.
  18. I dont see any flaw in the Skybreaker philosophy. Its just their perspective to follow the law of whatever land they are in when the crime is committed. At least that was the take I had on it. Plus, I dont think, to the Skybreakers, the law is meant to protect the people. More as a structure for order.
  19. Sorry to say, even while Dali ar didnt explain the codes sufficiently, Adolin could have had them read to him to try to understand. IIRC he didnt for a long while. About Adolins Calling, and Passion. This is a childs thinking. In life , a lot of times you have to sacrifice doing what youre passionate about to do what is needed. And a dusty old book it might be, doesnt change the fact that it makes a lot more sense than what the Alethi think is Honorable and 'right'. Which is basically war, war, masculinity, and more war. And basically your arguments are pointless, because even Adolin comes to agree his actions are childish. Comes to follow the codes. And Dalinar eases up on Adolin dueling only to do whats needed, which is to quell the the other Highprinces. And yes, Dalinar may appear(and even be) robotic and without emotion. But I only see that as him being in control, because he knows what type of man he can be when he isnt. In conclusion, Adolins story, for me, is him only accepting what hes willing to accept, until he finally realizes thats not what true responsibility is, and decides to grow up. You stating that hes just acting how his culture thinks he should is only emphasizing how immature he really is (util the last third of WoK anyway).
  20. I honestly didnt even think of her being an Elsecaller or anything relating to the Orders. My clue was when Shallan looked in the room to see Jasnah dead, and her body just wasnt there. Shallan saying that the murderers must have taken it triggered my suspicion. Figured she transofrmed blood(to fool that she had actually been stabbed) and popped into shadesmar. Way more awesome than what I expected.
  21. Im not sure if I screwed up by reading AoL before the first Mistborn trilogy, but I had no idea what was going on with Feruchemy. Allomancy was much easier to grasp. I really didnt even grasp Metalminds or Feruchemy until HoA.
  22. Im gonna be upset if Axies turns out to just be a tool to show off the world. As it was put to me on the Kandra Worldhopper thread, whts the point of having an Aimian POV (1) if hes not an Aimian(cause I thought he could be the Kandra WH), (2) if hes ONLY used to show off other parts of Roshar. You couod literally put ANY other toon in his place & do that.
  23. I get everyone seeing Dalinar as a brutal warlord (even though all he did was use soldiers families as an incentive to surrender, and weve seen much, much worse simply from Sadeas in WoK), but I dont get how people are just foegetting how Adolin, for what was most likely years, railed against following the Codes. Behaved as petulant spoiled child because he couldnt dress flashy. Be a whiney boy about not being able to duel during war time. Pining over not being able to get drunk while on duty. I mean honestly, through most of WoK, he acts like an immature child. Dont get me wrong, i really like Adolin. Especially after he gave Sadeas exactly what was coming to him. But it cant be argued that for most of book 1, he acted like a whiny child.
  24. I did the same thing Syl. I've been told I have an abrasive personality, and I like arguing and making everyone question everything, so I waited over a year to make an account and say anything. People are so nice on this forum that I was extremely afraid of making someone angry with me ( and usually I couldnt care less about that), considering this is the only place I find other BS fans I can talk to.
  25. I went with Mistborn, simply because I didnt even know Elantris existed at the time. But if youre already in love with Brandons writing and magic sytems, then go with Elantris.
