Did somebody ask if the reverse would work - one spren binding two radiants? Obviously the KR won't like it, but is there any technical limit?
-
Please tell you're not reading Ayn Rand. Please.

My bet is on bronze, but a mistborn must be devilishly sensitive to distinguish between the pulse of the investiture in an illusion and the investriture of the hidden lightweaver. Anyway, my point was that the "utility surge" orders might be more effective against mistborn than "combat surge" ones.
-
Also, the order of the radiant might matter. A lighweaver might fare better than a windrunner making herself invisible, throwing illusions and striking from behind. An elsecaller might just strike out from the cognitive realm. While the windrunner might just fly around chasing the Mistborn until his light drains.

For example Sanderson means "Son of (Alek)sander" - in several European languages the Patronyms became Family names over time. So, if Brandon was Shin he could call himself Brandon-Son-Son-...(five minutes later)...-Son-Sander.

Certainly an interestring (and beatiful) choice, but what properties will it have?

I'd draw the sixteen. I guess that might be enough. It would take more time, but... good luck with Odium and Ruin teamed up with Honor and Preservation against you.

Don't know. Your circle would be down, I guess.

Most of the things i wanted to say were said already, but I have a little bit to add. Its mostly technicalities, mostly regarding the planet Innogen. While this might be nitpicking, the points are probably worth considering. 1. General geography of Innogen: Is the whole planet covered in a forest? No oceans, no deserts, no polar icecaps? Nothing in the text contradicts the existence of those; however - if we see this all from a scientist's point of view - a general notion about the planet would be good. At this point we know nothing about Innogen except "strong storms and shining forests", to put it bluntly. We don't even know if Innotel has (or is) a moon. 2. The storm: is the storm covering the whole planet? While not neccessarily impossible, such events might have a strong impact on the ecology (-> Roshar). If the storm is not global, then there might be a reason why the expedition did a partly suicidal dive straight into the area of worst possible landing conditions on a whole planet. Did they land in the center of the glowing forests? Or on a lone island? Next to the highest mountain range? Exactly at the south pole? 3. Time: We see a notice: 20:33 Innotel time. It stays unclear what "Innotel time" means - 20:33 regarding what point on the planet? (Atmosphere entry point? Intended landing point? Actual landing point? - it also suggests that we have a 24-hour planet here (which, cosmically speaking, is not likely). Or are the hoiurs shorter/longer than on earth? Certainly worth explainig somewhere (not neccessary in the first chapter). Also, IMO, a cosmic fleet should keep its records on a more objective basis than local time. Just imagine how complicated the records of the fleet will become if a part of the fleet reaches this other planet where the days mioght be longer or shorter. 4. Gravity: Just a short question - is the gravity the same as on earth or wherever the fleet came from? Laux makes no notion on this point when landing so I assume it does not diverge strongly enough to be noticeable. However, even a slightly different gravity might have an impact (including problems with landing, balancing, throwing stones etc).

In Skyrim there are 13 standing stones, corresponding (according to some random in-world book) to 13 star signs, that are arranged in the way that 3 of those (Mage, Warrior, Thief) "protect" 9 others against the 13-th (the Serpent). In Alcatraz vs. The Evil Librarians Alcatraz receives his inheritance on his 13th birthday, which seems to be a tradition in the free kingdoms. -
I partly hold with the notion that a book is great when it contains exactly what it should contain to state its point - and when this exact measure contains sex, violence, landscape descriptions, statistics/diagrams/scientific passages or whatever this is a part of the greatness of the book. When a book contains the very same things without a particular reason for them... that makes the book less great. Imagine it like a painting: depending on what is pictured the addition of broken sword sticking in the ground might add something to the feeling of the picture, add nothing to it or absolutely ruin it. Take Game of Thrones (the books): The whole series is libeally filled with sex and violence - but most of the scenes with sex and/or violence are direct parts of the plotline. I struggle to remember if there is one scene in the whole five books that involves sex that is not important in the context, be it the developement of a relationship or the reason for a politcal problem. The same goes for violence. If there are scenes that describe sex and/or violence for their own sake, they are few. Or take Sanderson's books. While not containing especially much sex, violence is pretty much a given fact in most of the fighting scenes (It is disturbing to see Vin killing a three-digit number of Cett's guards, Szeth killing and mutilating largely helpless quards etc. etc.). And again: this scenes are there to help the books to state their point. Another page in the Stormlight Archive about Dalinar and Adolin crashing through a Parshendi battleline on an average plateau run would be unnecessary, and therefore uneccessary violent.

The only placew so far we visited in the Cosmere that had a magic system flexible enough to create Dragons and the like is Sel. E.G. a unholy combination of AonDor and DahkorDor for twisting somebody's body into something entirely different - that is, assuming the Dragon won't go full Nightblood in the sense of corrupted investiture. Anyway, that is something you could probably work with.

I subtly refer to my thread regarding dramatis personae of the sanderverse not capable of raising a single eyebrow. Yes, there are a couple of those.

Creating a Stormlight Archive Deck of Cards
Alfa replied to Titan Arum's topic in Stormlight Archive
I had a very different idea regarding the suits of Ace and 2-10. On roshar 10 is everything. So it even makes sense to change the theme in a Suit from Ace to 10 through the 10 essences. As for the suits' general themes I suggest Herald, Knight Radiant, Spren and Gem, with Jezrien/Windrunner/Honorspren/Saphire coresponding 1/Ace, Nale/Skybreaker/Highspren/Smokestone corresponding 2, etc. This leads to a problem regarding the "higher" cards like King, Queen etc., one for which I do not see any imminent resolution... Does anybody have an idea regarding this?- 18 replies

If Different Authors Wrote the Stormlight Archive
Alfa replied to TwiLyghtSansSparkles's topic in Sanderson Fan Works
Glenn Cook would write from the perspective of guys like Gaz... People who are abso-storming-lutely not nice (chulls, to be more precise), who do important, but dirty work. Multilayered betrayal would be common, as well as complicated shifting alliances. Adolin would not survive his third duel, dying with a arrow in the back. Kaladin would be known under the nicknames Bridgeboy and later captain, Lopen as Onearm, Adolin as Pretty Face, Shallan as Ginger or Painter or whatever. Shortly, real names would be few. And some guys would be awfully difficult to kill. And return after being killed for very very storming sure. And the "good" Shards on Roshar would be named Pragmatism and Contract. And the everstorm always comes. edit: added a few passages- 84 replies

What does Lancing do? [Question Answered - 06/17/2015]
Alfa replied to Blaze1616's topic in Other Stories
In my opinion energy manipulation is everything from lifting stones to breaking molecules, because matter is energy, and whenever you do something you change the current energy equilibrium.- 3 replies
