  1. Interesting theory. Got a few questions. I thought it was Bavadin who was on silence Divide planet, and that Bavadin was strongly implied to be Allied with Odium. Wouldent make the theory impossible, would just require some changing. Would perhaps even make more sense if Odium had Bavadin as an ally against honor and Cultivation. Dont quite remember where I read that part now thou, and not time to search atm. :/ *edit Right. Seems likely that I mixed up silence divide and White sands then. Quite common for me, that;)
  2. Wouldent you just end up with 10, identical, stored memories of the same incident? You wouldent risk fussying stuff(cause you wouldent take the memory out and then insert them again, as you´d have several). But not that great an advantage.
  3. I had a guess there.. not having read the library dragonsteel thingy, just liar of partinell wich doesent say much of the world there. That world was the original one as I understood it, where Adonalsium shattered. Then the shards moved out, created more worlds(or atleast altered new worlds;). My guess/thought at the time I first heard of that was that the first world was a "standard" fantasy world of sorts, with the newer worlds being altered, new things. Would make sense. So that owuld mean dragons, perhaps even other simular fantasy classic monsters/races in dragonsteel. And as I said, that was just a guess, dont remember if its been disproved since then. But it would be fun in a way:)
  4. found a book and checked it up, and I remembered wrong. The occasional bursts of power was when he was fed small gems during his coma I belive
  5. Is that interpretation generally accepted? I sadly don´t have my book here and can´t checht the exakt line, but I seem to remember something like "mixed with occasional bursts of power" or something like that, wich is very plural, and would hint very strongly that the stormlight does indeed come every now and then, not just once.
  6. I made a gargantuan reply to this, but an internal server error ate it and I forgot to copy before posting So making a shorter version now, and only taking one of the points I did before, as I think its the point thats causeing the disagreement. (theorycrafting isnt me best area, so good chance at error, expecting them to be found quickly;) Mobility. Firstly, Lashings and steel/iron seem functions utterly differently. 1 lashing equals gravity. yet it does not simply add it, it seems to replace it. Otherwise 1 lashing would mean your equally pulled to the ground and the direction your lashed to, wich would make walking on walls pretty hard, and make you simply stay at the spot weightless if you lash yourself upwards. And if it was much stronger then gravity, it would make running on a wall while lashed to it difficult for other reason, as you´d wiegh several times your weight. Steel/iron on the other hand, does not replace gravity(there are many places in the books, notably Kelsiers assault on the Venture keep early in Mistborn where this is described). Therefore, it must be stronger then gravity or 1 lashing, as otherwise dropping a coin at your feet and pushing you would not move, it would simply counteract gravity. This ofcourse, means that 1 lashing would move slower then someone pushing on a coin. Thats actually not my main point thou. When it comes to flying, taking a metaphor I see the windrunner as a dragster, while the mistborn is a regular racecar. The windrunner can propably gain higher speeds by getting a whole lot of lashings. But this takes time. Not long mind you, but in the area of instant abilities, its long enough. The mistborn will push or pull himself to the side or up, and the windrunner will need to change direction. Dismiss all the 10 lashings moving forward, then applying new lashings in the mistborns direction, adding enough to gain speed again(all the while using reverse lashings to dodge any metal the mistborn is shooting at you, and fighting of despare and defeatism from sooting/rioting)... all this taking enough time for the mistborn to move out of his path again, and then some. The mistborn also ofcourse, uses tin to notice any changes in momentum at his opponent, far quicker then the windrunner will be able to. In a straight line, the windrunner will be quicker, but the mistborn will have much better cornering, and as such he won´t have any problems staying out of the way. (and thats without going into how much stormlight it would cost to try to catch someone like that) So in the end, big reason we disagree is that I believe mistborn are more mobile in the air, you believe windrunners are. I think we can agree that the one who is the most mobile in the air, is likely to win. (and quickly on a second point, holding a wodden stick to the side and lashing all coins to it won´t work more then once. After that it got metal stuck to it, and can be pulled or pushed on, so while flying that trick only works on the first coin, after that it needs to be dropped, or the mistborn, even if he cannot pull it from the windrunners hand, its the perfect item for the mistborn to use to push on to keep distance)
  7. Thats part of the strength of the abilities thou. Take awakening. It would not run out, the breaths you have, you have, you could retake what you awaken. It never runs out. Stormlight on the other hand, you can´t store very much, gems take quite alot of space. It will run out fairly quickly in comparison. You just cannot bring a supply wich wont run out eventually. Or rather quickly if you use it alot. Allomancy is in the middle. It will run out, but not as fast as stormlight. an wqual amount of metal(most metals atleast) will last much longer then stormlight in an equally large gem. So you could say that, but it would remove a strength in the "longer lasting" magics, and then then I´d put it even or even advantange szeth if he is able to use his surgebinding to actually fly (I know its almost certain it can be used to do it, they flied in dalinars visons, but very uncertain if Szeth would think of/know how to do it)
  8. He´d haveto touch the wall then thou to infuse that wouldent he? He could ofcourse hold a shield, like a lurcher would(or Kaladin did with the arrows), but thats still abit risky. He couldent use a metal one or Kelsier would just push him about, and a wodden one would break from enough coins/nails I guess. Or some coins/nails would get stuck and the shield would be pulled away. Eitehr way, doing either would drain stormlight very quickly, and I just don´t see a way for Szeth to be able to close the distance quickly enough, atleast not out in the open. Inside I would agree that Szeth hade the advantage.
  9. Szeth would haveto touch them to invest them with stormlight and fall away thou. that kinda makes that thing useless when its shot at you. Falling away himself sure, but enough coins, and not only shooting but pulling from behind with iron to attack aswell, and its not very easy.
  10. I´d bet on Kelsier against all three, in a fight where they where aware of the other´s powers. If he came out against wax for example, not knowing, thinking it a normal coinshot, he may well be killed simply from catching a coin between them and both pushgin, with wax makes himself a 1000 more heavier and crushes Kel by throwing him into a wall. Against Dalinar, well, shardblade is an instant kill if Kel tried to block it with another weapon not knowing what it is, but ofcourse, he´d beat him easily by staying at range and shooting metal at him until the shardplate breaks. Against Szeth, same deal. Keep a distance, with his strength being in steel/iron, he´ll be able to stay out of reach and avoid items szeth lashes into his path until Szeth runs out of stormlight, and once that happends szeth is dead. Hé´ll beat him by using metal the same way as he did the inquisitor. On the other hand, if Kelsier was unaware of Szeth´s powers, he´d prolly die in melee, not expecting him to be as fast and skilled fighting as stormlight makes him.
  11. Hoid seem fairly cautious, and who knows how long the seventeen shard have been following him, perhaps lightweawing lets you change your appearance, somewhat simular to how Raoden did when apearing as a dula in Elantris. That would be a fairly minor magic, and possibly something Hoid would not want to drop, even if it meant a slight risk of someone sensing it. Add to that, ok, he have alot of information, but him knowing that the earing Vin wears make her twice as good in bronce, and makes her perhaps the only non-inqisitor on Scadrial who´d have even a chance at sensing something, thats pushing it. And even with twice the broncepower, she still(if that was the case) didnt know what, only that something didnt feel quite right. All speculation true, but it got logic atleast.
  12. You know ruin could change information in a coppermind, right? Know, the lord ruler forgetting some of all the secret tricks wich noone else knew sure would make it easier having someone *cough* vin kill him later..
  13. He may well have forgotten exactely how to make it too. He may have had all the knowledge after holding preservations power, but once he let that go, most likely he had to remember it with a regular brain until he could get hold of his copperminds, and even if he got those imidiately, or managed to store the info while holding preservations power, Ruin could have changed/corrupted it. The lord ruler living at the end of the final empire propably had forgotten much of what he once knew, or atleast forgotten the details surounding it.
  14. About Nicrosilminds and storing warmth to withdraw as age. Nicrosil... you think they could make that in the final Empire? Perhaps the Lord Ruler could ahve done it that way, and knew all about it, but could not get his hands on the metal? If its made partly from Silicon, well, a quick Wiki search has that as first made in 1824. Thats propably too high tech for the final Empire.
  15. Would be quite possible that the first soulcaster fabrials was to let the other orders of knigths radiant do some limited soulcasting aswell? Perhaps there where other fabrials, letting the other orders do a limited variant of the windrunner stunts.
  16. Will be interesting to read what brandon writeson it, kinda special when both´s chars are his, well, sortof his anyway And completely unrelated, Im sad that revan lost ;/, original Kotor is the videogame I´v plaed so far that had the best story.
  17. I know the book isnt, but I thought the parts that he posted(first chapter or the prologe) was. Supose I might have been wrong on that:). Now that I think about it, him posting it publicly smply meant it was allowed to be discussed here right, as opposed to the rest of the nonpublished works?
  18. Also, alot of people in this world, Earth, believe in a God. And this isnt exately a paradise everywhere either... So Adonalsium being God (the almighty kind as opposed to the just verymighty shards), would not necceserily mean paradise anyway. Oh, and we´we met Hoid prior to the shattering, in the prologue to a book thats posted on this site somewhere. thats suposed to be canon right, since its posted here? or?
  19. Windrunner: Aye, missed that, still, regarding planets of different systems. Our system have a huge distance to the closest other star, While I agree it is extremely unlikely Yolen and Scadrial would share a system, this does not mean it needs to be several lightyears away, as it the case with Earth´s closest star neighbor. If there was another star, or several only a few lightmonth´s away, with all other stars several lightyears removed, it would give a reason for why planets could be named, and why worldhopping to just theese planets may be the only real alternative (guessing there is some difficulties with travel in shdesmar too). I just don´t think it´s likely taht Ruin and preservation killed of the original population, and they are stated to have created humanity.(and there should be no other population still living with sufficent high culture to name the world. I would think that whatever lives on the southern half of the planet was likely human before TLR remade the world.
  20. Hoid worldhops. This is indication(althou admittedly not proof) that lightweawing, the skill Hoid knew before Adonalsium shattered, allows for worldhopping. So whats to say tehre wasent a bunch of worldhopper prior to the shattering, who had visited different world, naming them?
  21. It was most likely not the Earing that caused Vin to be launched into the wall, it was when said earing connected with March´s head, wich weigh quite abit more;) Not sure how much "weight" there would need to be to push something(even something small) through someone´s head, but alot more then just the weight of an earring, wich throws your math off by, well alot.
  22. Personally I still believe that they were disgusted at being used in "ordinary" wars. Perhaps they had an oath not to take power themselves but follow their rulers, and as they where spread over different countries, perhaps they got fed up with knights radiant being asked to fight knights radiant? Had it just been the blades and plates being tainted, they could have just dropped those and continued to be knights radiant. A windrunner such as Kaladin or(possibly) szeth is quite formidable even without plate and blade, bet the other orders would be too. So I dont think soemthing happening to the plates and/or blades can explain it.
  23. I´m not sure what heppened either there, wasent my intention to do more then state that I wouldent like such a comic And don´t appologize for starting a thread about something you´d like. Its what forums are for.
  24. Maybe its egoistical, same as well, wanting a graphic novel when that´s not very cool with us who would dislike it . And well, there are no statistics that I know of stating how many want/dislike it. More to the point however, my hope in this area is not likely to affect it either way, and I´m not really offended either way. If I had been in a position to decide wether or not there was to be a graphic novel, and decided not to based on my own preferences, then Id buy it being egoistical. Now, its just a statement of my opinion. That I don´t want it. Since my opinion won´t stop it, unless there are alot who thinks the same. And if there are, then you would be the egoistical, if you drove it through for you own pleasure, with the majority against. But not if you simply stated you wanted it. That would be ok.
  25. Sorry, but personally I hope it will never happend. Why? Because it would ruin what reading fantasy is all about for me. When I pick up a new book, half the fun in seeing how things look in your head. doing a comic ruins this, as there are actual pictures. And well, If a mistborn comic came out, I would propably not be able to stay away from it, yet it would mess up my enjoying the books :/
