The Ultimate List of Questions for Brandon
ParadoxicalZen replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Skybreakers apparently have a knack from this, going from that epigraph in WoR Would Ruin have known what attributes spikes made from others Shard's substance would steal? -
You Know You're a geek/nerd when...
ParadoxicalZen replied to Allomancy's topic in Entertainment Discussion
When you're travelling and the only thing that you read is Brandon Sanderson but have run out of Cosmere works to read. When also travelling you crave other geek media as you're behind on your shows When you still haven't seen Star Wars 7 and have been hyping yourself up for it only to find they've stopped showing it in the Philippines D: -
Sorry, travelling is leaving me feeling rather like I'm storing mental acuity so I completely failed to make my correct point. The point I was trying to get at was, if ancient Terris and therefore Rashek, knew of Feruchemical Nicrosil and Aluminum, as Nicrosil had no presence in era 1 either allomantically or feruchemically and aluminum was only seen allomantically. We can assume Rashek found out about Duralumin and Aluminum via the Well so presumably he would have known about the other 4 metals. We also know that he created the metal slates as a contingency in case he died so if he truly had created the bands, then surely he would have put their location on them so he, after a fashion, could return and finish what he started.

I think there are a few issues to consider. I seem to recall a WoB about Preservation having changed the mechanics/metals of allomancy a little bit (can anyone clarify this for me?) So if that is the case, would Rashek known of these changes when he took up the well? Or did the ancient Terri's know of Investiture and Identity as storable attributes? It would provide some insight as to whether or not Rashek knew of the metals and their capabilities

Shadows of Self Tour: London Forbidden Planet signing
ParadoxicalZen replied to ParadoxicalZen's topic in Events and Signings
Its a tricky thing, as I recall an old WoB saying we've seen or have influences from all of the Heralds at various points in WoK (depending how you define seen anyway) Pali is speculated to have been in the Palaneum in one of Shallan's PoV's. -
The Ultimate List of Questions for Brandon
ParadoxicalZen replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Taravangian mentions a 'Lifebrother' in his first proper conversation with Szeth, who/what is it? -
I think whatever the order/squire he should be, if there is an adaptation, either live-action or animated, the person to play/voice him should be Michael Pena

Help me Personalize my Leatherbound Elantris
ParadoxicalZen replied to Argent's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
Perhaps Raoden's coat of arms? Providing he has one of course -
Well...he said there are no splinters of Preservation or Ruin, so it is possible it could be a mixture of the two (given that Harmony is an ambiguous Intent/concept, I find Discord suits the Ruin/Kelsier combo, as it lines up with Kelsier's personality and isn't too ruinous) and combined with the fact that Kelsier was/is a cognitive shadow, that could be working a way round the question. One thing i've just considered especially with TLR's presence felt in upcoming Bands of Mourning book, is do we know what happened to Rashek post-death? As he could have still had enough presence the same way Kelsier did to stay as a cognitive shadow?

Kindle Version difficulties
ParadoxicalZen replied to Landis963's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
Anyone know if the UK versions been released/updated? -
I don't think Trell is Bavadin/Autonomy especially after rereading AoL, when Wax is talking to Harmony at the end, Saze says something along the lines of getting the people to make their decisions
-
If I remember Weiry's response correctly, it was just Brandon not really liking the sound of Sazedium/sazium
-
I was looking for a new series after running through my others and I had started WoT by then anyway and I heard news of Brandon taking over the remaining books. I'd completely forgotten about that when I came across the title but the cover and the blurb had me hooked as it was something different and have been addicted ever since

[Theory] Highstorms contain a gateway to the Cognitive realm
ParadoxicalZen replied to Rockbud's topic in Stormlight Archive
It would make sense, as the Stormfather is a cognitive shadow as well as a Sliver-splinter (IIRC he did take up Honor for some duration did he not, or am i misremembering? I seem to recall a recent WoB about his status as Sliver being revoked but i'm not sure. Can anyone clear this up?) -
I think assuming Trell to be male mainly comes the lack of extremely prolific/notable female options (as most have a concrete alibi or aren't around any more) unless it is a female that we don't know of yet (The autonomous Ruin may even have a female personality, depending on what exactly happens when sapience occurs). We know that whoever controls any number of Haemalurgic constructs has to be incredibly powerful (or is part of a large group) as Vin could do so with a Duralumin burst where Elend could do so naturally I believe, and a group of Soothers/Rioters during TFE time could do so together. Given how diluted the bloodlines and how much weaker Allomantic strength is circa Era 2, the only candidates i can think of with the strength/resources to be able to control so many of the Haemalurgic chimeras at once would either be the Set (possible but highly unlikely), Harmony (nigh impossible) or the extra bit of Ruin (it would have the master knowledge of Haemalurgy and the strength to do so). But as for your questions 1. I think we might see the waiter again in BoM, give he is a minion of the Set, and the blurb of BoM says we'll see more of their plans then but he could just be one of those characters who have a minor appearance *shrugs* 2. As for Paalm's skill with Haemalurgic techniques, we weren't given much info as to how much she knows (Ruin was more Shout but Ati was pretty much consumed by his Intent at this point so he could have been defter earlier on) so i don't think she had the softest touch when talking to the guard. Do we even know if Paalm knew of Marasi's cadmium bubble? It isn't a broadcasted thing and we don't know if Harmony would have told the Kandra about his plans for all his pawns. 3. I didn't really think about this, but I'm a big fan of the Autonomous Ruin theory anyway, so i'd say that is who it is. (I think this Ruin created a Lerasium-Atium Alloy/Harmonium. As for why Harmony can't recognise it, I can list possible reasons but that's for another topic/pm) 4. This would make sense, or at least provide resistance to the telepathy. Not sure about the hats though; similar to the way you can't pull/push on a metal that is embedded in you but the telepathy could work similarly to Soothing/Rioting.

ChayShan is tricky as we've not seen much of Jindoeese culture, but given their history, they'll have their own ancient language similar to that of MaiPon. And i wouldn't say the Aons + other symbols of Selish/Selian natives are a writing system, its more of symbol/form thing, which given Shuden's ChayShan martial art demonstration, fits quite well with that as each sequence of moves tells a story/command, similar to way the Aons can be programmed.

I thought the pits were where the extra bit of Ruin was being siphoned off. Although the geodes could be a side-effect of the pool leaking through.

Visitors from Other Worlds (Possible other-series spoilers)
ParadoxicalZen replied to fyodor's topic in Mistborn
I'm of the opinion there are two pools and the beginnings of a third/thee two are merging/leaking into a third -
I'm off travelling in 5 days...and I'm more concerned about this kink in my neck that happened the other day that really needs a deep tissue massage (or some deep heat). Priorities, on another note, I have nearly all of Brandon's Cosmere books on my Fire tablet so my reading list is set for a while till Bands of Mourning. On another note, I'm hungry for Brownies and I'm excited to dress up for Halloween

What would you choose as your Twinborn Combination?
ParadoxicalZen replied to Moash's topic in Mistborn
Allomantic Iron + Feruchmical Steel = Spider-man anyone? that or cadmium/bendalloy feruchemy Or if i wanted to go villain, any combination of Allomantic Zinc/Brass and Feruchemical Aluminium/Duralumin. Soothe/Riot everyone in a bank then store my sense of identity/connection so everyone doesn't really recognise me Or for hilarity/chaos, Lerasium/Lerasium -
Help Sought with a Realmatic Question
ParadoxicalZen replied to Confused's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Nah, forgot to quote Confused's part about Autonomous splinter. I'll see if i can find the topic but it was in regards to the classification of what is a Splinter (previous WoB(s) stating that a splinter was a portion of a Shard's power that had gained sentience/sapience. Found it, it was in the Initiation topic as there was debate as to whether there were different kinds of splinters. http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/47095-new-terminology-initiation/page-2 Which in fact Ari was the one that provided said information As for the actual question, hmm...I think it would depend on the Shard's Intent and how strong the idea was. If the idea was so ingrained in the lifeforms of the Shardworld, simiarly to the way Kelsier managed to stay behind as a Cognitive Shadow, it could be possible for a Shard to create a splinter of some kind or to invest this idea. -
Petition to Make the Name for Copper/Pewter Twinborn "Archifists"
ParadoxicalZen replied to DeadFencer's topic in Mistborn
Seeing as the era 3 protagonist is a computer whizz/possible coder, if she had pewter Allomancy and steel running like Voidus said, perhaps she could upgrade to a HacktiFist -
Help Sought with a Realmatic Question
ParadoxicalZen replied to Confused's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Wasn't there a WoB in one of the more recent threads (I think SoS tour or the Ultimate Q's/Q&A) that stated that Divine Breaths were a different kind of splinter? -
I'm thinking Stormfather, Cogntive form and perhaps the Unmade causing the Thrill for the second figure
-
[possible spoiler] Who was bleeder talking too?
ParadoxicalZen replied to vatsan16's topic in Mistborn
EDITED: rewritten for cohesive logic The reason I'd go with Splinter of Ruin is due to Saze expelling the Ruin early on, before the Shards started to mesh. If that above theory about Kels is true, he could perhaps have decided to pass on before the Intent corrupted him hence Harmony's comment, and it could be possible that his departing left an imprint on the Splinter similarly to Stormlight Archive. This imprint could have contained corrupted emotions/memories of Kels' thoughts regarding nobles/high society, ergo the situation present in Era 2.
