  1. Yay! "Sanderfans" and "Branderson" are my terms! I'm glad people like them! And I decided to go ahead and follow the 17th Shard tumblr too. Glad to see we're reaching out!
  2. So I haven't officially started this story yet, but I've got the first line. It's fanfic again, but I think this one might be more up you guys's alley... Three hundred and forty-five years after the end of the world, Vin woke up to yellow sunlight. Oops. Alloy-of-Law era Vinlend reunion anyone?
  3. Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's the theories that kinda scare people off. I mean, I love theorizing and trying to figure out how the magic systems work and stuff, but it can definitely seem intimidating to those on the outside. Especially those who've only read one or two of Brandon's books, like many of the new Shardlings (used it!) on tumblr. We find them because they've liveblogged their reading, and then I think if they were to check out 17th Shard and say... accidentally stumble into the Cosmere Theories board, it's a little overwhelming. I think having an actual 17th Shard tumblr would be a really cool idea, especially as a way to introduce people to the idea of the cosmere and awesome stuff like Shardcast. EDIT: I just checked 17thshard.tumblr.com and it's taken, but it's got the right tagline: "The Official Brandon Sanderson Fansite." Does that mean that someone from over here has that URL?
  4. I've been playing quite a bit of Infinity Blade. Now I just need to get enough money for the novella...
  5. For those unaware, there is now a thriving (read: about 15 people) fandom for Brandon's stuff on tumblr! Yeah, okay, we're pretty small, but we're close knit! However, most fandoms on tumblr have a cool name for their followers: Homestucks, Whovians, Potterheads, even the Twilighters get a name. We need a name too! Also, apparently some of the Cosmere fans are a bit afraid of 17th Shard, so I decided to reach across the gap, since you all are part of the fandom too! So what are your thoughts on the matter? Got any better names? Bonus Question: What's the best abreviation of Brandon Sanderson? B-Sandz or Branderson? (Personal issue here) In case you've never heard of the tumblr Cosmere fandom, let me aquaint you with some of the highlights going on right now. We have: Cosmere book liveblogs! It's always fun finding someone who has stumbled upon Brandon's books and is now posting about how they have "lost the ability to can" and that the are now in possession of "all the feels." These are often accompanied by lots of reaction gifs of people jumping off cliffs, falling down staircases, and the Doctor crying in the rain. We all try to welcome these people with warmth and understanding and inform them that it only gets worse from here on out. Crossovers, AU's, and Fanfiction! Vin and Kelsier in the Mass Effect universe? We've got that! What about Vinlend in the Hunger Games. Did you realize that Homestuck quadrants work really well in some of Brandon's books? Also, what whould happen if everyone in the Cosmere worked in a coffee shop? Or was in a marching band? And if you've never seen the men of Mistborn wearing Sailor Fukus, you haven't lived. (Don't worry, Ham's dress doesn't have sleeves. Adherence to canon is our highest priority)We have all sorts of things you didn't realize you wanted until just now. Shipping! While Vinlend is EVERYONE'S OTP NO EXCEPTIONS, cute canon ships like Sazed/Tindwyl, Kelsier/Mare, Raoden/Sarene, and Siri/Susebron get some love over here too. Arguments over whether Vasher/Vivenna and Kelsier/Syl should be romantic break out occasionally. Not to mention the Shallarin and Adollan love triangle that's going on. And who could forget Dalinar/Navani versus Dalinar/WhatsHerName? In short, we're a pretty cool bunch! If you've got a tumblr, you should check us out!
  6. Ooh! My turn! Let's try one that's Cosmere only. And if you dorks thought you were going to get away with not mentioning Loki, you apparently don't understand the depths of my obsession. Captain America - Elend Venture, obviously! Nice guy who tries his hardest but never really quite makes it, then all of a sudden he gets awesome superpowers and kicks butt. Thor - Susebron. Yeah, I'm with y'all. God-like power with adorable naïveté and innocence. Black Widow - Vin. For all the reasons stated above. Easily underestimated, dark-themed girl who can take you down and outsmart you at the same time. Assassins gotta stick together! Hawkeye - Spook. As much as I like Wax, since he's a sharpshooter, Spook's got the eyes and the bonus of being brainwashed by the enemy and fighting for the wrong side for a while! Hulk - Normal!Vasher as Bruce, Unsheathed Nightblood!Vasher as Hulk. Iron Man - CRACK CHARACTER TIME! Wit manages to "borrow" Dalinar's armor. Taa-daa! Cosmere Iron Man! Loki! - Zane. No arguments. (Okay maybe Denth too since he's actually got the "god" thing on his side, but no) Let's do a headcount here: Daddy issues? Check. Self-loathing? Check. Tall, Dark, and Handsome (Shut up I'm a fangirl and I love Hiddles' face)? Check. Blonde-haired brother that everyone likes better? Check. Aforementioned brother making for inferiority complexes and angst? Check. Awesome hate-flirting with Black Widow(Vin)? Check. We're done here. Feather OUT.
  7. Well it actually comes at the end of a paragraph, and then that next line starts the next. I don't know. I just really loved the way it worked in context. I'll post the paragraph, but I'll put it in spoilers because it's fanfiction and I am slightly ashamed... So, yeah. Fanfiction... I ought to be doing other writing things but it's just too fun. That, and I'm kinda proud of this story. Proud of my writing, but ashamed that it's fanfic. It's a strange line to walk.
  8. Okay this technically isn't a first line, but it took me forever to figure out how to phrase it and I'm really proud and I need to share it with someone other than tumblr. "Oblivion seemed to him a more enviable state than existence." I'm also rather fond of the line after that: "Unfortunately, reality found him once more." Thank you. That is all. Please ignore me and my silly sentences.
  9. Okay, I've been watching Wallander recently (Don't look at me like that. I have a Hiddles problem. I'm aware.) and there was a girl in one of the episodes who just struck me as a really good pick for Vin. Flora Spencer-Longhurst is her name, but her IMDb page is kinda lame, so here's some pictures: Since she's not really well known, here's a good clip of her acting. The character that she plays in Wallander actually has some similarities to Vin. Tragic life, major trust issues, but occasionally Wallander will get her to open up a bit and she shows some humor and wit. As soon as she realizes what she's done though, she closes up again and pushes him away.
  10. Em! You've got to give a choice, silly!
  11. Just started watching Doctor Who after tumblr and my best friend continue to bug me about it. I'm not sure if I really love it yet, since I'm only about halfway through the first series (9th Doctor, not the really old ones), but it's definitely watchable!
  12. Wow. That is seriously one of the coolest things I've ever seen. I'm such a Loki fangirl, it's not even funny, and it's so strange to have my fandoms colliding! That is one seriously amazing costume, though. Props to you!
  13. I've been working on my own mistcloak as well, using Inkthinker's designs for inspiration mostly. (The Noble Mistborn in particular) I think I've decided to go with single mantle and a high collar instead of a hood, personally because I don't really like hoods very much and I feel like it would fly backward with the first steeljump you made. In case anyone's wondering though, Kell's mistcloak does have a hood in book 1. It's back when he and Vin are sparring for the first time. So, hood or no hood, it's up to you.
  14. Odium reigns, I guess. We are no longer safe...
  15. Quick, everyone! The highstorm is coming! Run for the shelters! Tie your enemies up outside! Make sure they're not Kaladin when you do!
  16. Ooh, Shakespeare. I'm actually taking a Shakespeare class right now. If you've never read his history plays I'd recommend Henry IV (parts 1 and 2) and Henry V. They're really awesome. Then watch The Hollow Crown, which is the new BBC adaptation. Shakespeare is really fun to read.
  17. ^^Well I know enough Dr. Who do understand that this is a reference, but not enough to actually understand it... Anyway - I'd like to announce that I'm now in college! Woot! Adulthood!
  18. I'm fairly sure within a marriage, both partners keep their own ranks, especially in a darkeyes/lighteyes marriage. Kaladin mentions somewhere that if he and Laral were to get married, if they had lighteyed children, his children would outrank him. Here's the quote (Sorry, I don't have a page number. This is my online copy. It's in Chapter 25, The Butcher.): This makes me wonder how ranks are decided for children if the parents are of different ranks? Something to consider.
  19. Eero, you are such a meanie! >XP In other news, I finished cutting all the strips for my mistcloak! And all the fabric is bought! I'm basing my design so far off of Inkthinker's designs, the Noble Allomancer's mistcloak. I'm so excited!
  20. I'd like to announce that I just got my braces off! Woot! Yeah, I was way too old to have braces anyway. I'm glad they're gone!
  21. It's too late. I'm typing this posthumously. *is dead*
  22. The Ars Arcanum lists the 10 orders each with a Primary and Secondary "Divine Attribute". I'd imagine the spren names would be similar. My spren name guesses are in quotes: 1. Jes - Protecting/Leading (This is Kaladin's Order. The Windrunners. "Protectionspren") 2. Nan - Learned/Giving ("Knowledgespren") 3. Chach - Brave/Obedient ("Braveryspren" or "Couragespren") 4. Vev - Loving/Healing ("Carespren" or "Lovespren") 5. Palah - Just/Confident (This is my hypothesis for Jasnah's order. "Justicespren") 6. Shash - Creative/Honest (I'd bet my right arm that this is Shallan's. "Truthspren") 7. Betab - Wise/Careful ("Wisdomspren" or "Cautionspren") 8. Kak - Resolute/Builder ("Strengthspren") 9. Tanat - Dependable/Resourceful ("Certaintyspren") 10. Ishi - Pious/Guiding ("Advicespren") Some of those are way sketchy, but whatever. Those are my ideas. And all 10 would be under the name Honorspren. New theory time, thanks to all this speculation. Assuming that Honorspren have 10 categories - one for each order: what if it's possible to establish a bond with other spren besides the 10 Honorspren and get other powers? I wouldn't rule it out. Brandon is incredibly fond of not telling everything about the magic systems, especially in the first books. Remember when there were only 10 Allomantic metals? I have a feeling there's something similar here. It'd explain the "Not all spren are as discerning as honorspren" comment. There is no way we know everything about Surgebinding, but I think Brandon's tricked us into thinking we have a handle on what we don't know. I have a feeling lots of us are saying "Okay, we know that Windrunning's an order, and Soulcasting's a power, so in the next books we'll need nine more orders, nine more powers, and we'll need to match them all up, right?" and Brandon's going to say, "Yeah, that's true - but wait there's more! Hahahaha!" And we'll beat ourselves up because it was really obvious all along and no one got it.
  23. It was a dark and stormy night. A young girl was innocently browsing her favorite forums, thinking about playing a game with her friends online. But behind what seemed like an innocent link, something sinister waited. She saw the danger - recognized the tropes in use - but that small line beneath the words was so tempting. She had to click on it. There was no resisting. She'd just look at a few pages and then close the tabs... Early the next morning, FeatherWriter was found dead at her computer, causes unknown. The deceased was illuminated only by the soft glow of the computer screen in front of her and the 57 tabs open upon it. --- I'm pretty sure Kurkistan's in the mafia guys. You'd best lynch him quickly before the tropes get you all!
  24. Someone posted their Mistborn cast on tumblr that I replied to here: http://featherwriter.tumblr.com/post/27967504797/mistborn-dreamcast (my comments are that novel of text at the bottom) After reading this thread, I think my dream cast would be something like this: Kelsier: Tom Hiddleston Sorry. I'm a Hiddles fangirl. And KChan convinced me on this one. He's somewhat become Kelsier for me. Though there have been some really awesome Kel suggestions in this thread, that I might be persuaded to jump ships. Or at least, not be too sad if it wasn't Tom. Vin: Chloë Grace Mortiz or Dakota Fanning Both of these girls could play Vin well, I think. Elend: James McAvoy? I don't really have any strong feelings here, so peer pressure! He seems a bit old for Elend though. Honestly, Jack Frost from the new movie is the best fit for Elend in my head, but he's animated. And his voice is too deep. Dang. I really need to find a good Elend.Marsh: Adam Baldwin Let's hop on the Firefly bandwagon here. My only worry is that if I've got Hiddles as Kelsier, that Adam doesn't look much like him. Oh well, they could pull it off. Dockson: Colin Firth Oh, I wish he was a bit younger though. He'd be a great Dox. That flat, dry, only-sane-man personality would suit him perfectly. Breeze: Robert Downey Jr. My mom was the one who suggested RDJ as Breeze actually, and I liked the idea. He's a bit to old to play Kelsier, but he'd work well as Breeze. Ham: Chris Hemsworth You have to admit he's built for it. He also seems to have quite the gentle side and I think he could pull of Ham's sweet but strong personality really well. (On an unfortunate side note: Chris's imdb page says that there's a Snow White and the Huntsman 2 announced. What in the world? I didn't even see it, but my friends have told me the first was laughably bad.) Clubs: No idea Sorry. I just can't find anyone that fits. Sazed: Also no idea Sorry, Saze! You're hard to cast! The Lord Ruler: Sean Maher Firefly cast part 2! I've always pictured a young Lord Ruler, so when someone suggested Sean, it fit perfectly for me. Spook: Colin Morgan He'd be a bit old for Spook in The Final Empire, but he would totally nail him for the last two books. Colin as the Survivor of Flames? Yes. It'd be perfect.
  25. Must. Not. Link. To. TV Tropes. But yes! That's exactly what I'm talking about! Ehehe!
