  1. I think I might actually have been the first one to bring up this point. Back in my Honor Shattered Like Adonalsium thread, I mentioned my theory that there were ten types of honorspren, one for each order. Therefore Syl would actually be a more specific type. Here's the quote: I know there's lots of people who disagree with me on this, but I still support the "Honorspren is a General Term" theory. Wonder if I should make a formal theory thread for that? Reader's response was rather curt though. Shiver and Windrunner are right: there's no way everyone could keep up with everything. I know I certainly don't! No one should be chided for missing a piece of information or not being up-to-date on the latest theories. Just be polite about it. EDIT: Formatting
  2. I'm back from my thing, so I'm up to play. I've never played online, but the concept doesn't seem too difficult. Will the mod make up elaborate stories of what happens at night to update us all, or will it just be "So and so was killed last night. Who do you want to lynch?" Because elaborate stories are what makes a Mafia game in my experience.
  3. You are evil, Eero. Tempt me not!
  4. I'd like to announce that I'm leaving for a summer camp. My last ever since I'm a graduated senior. :'( I'll be back in a few days! (No electronics allowed)
  5. I'd be interested, though I'll be MIA for a few days. Don't start without me!
  6. Yeah, those "gotcha" moments - definitely not my friend. They show up in action movies sometimes too and they get me every time. A game comprised of those would be sort of my worst nightmare. Like, I really want to go see Cabin In The Woods because it's Joss Whedon, but it's also technically horror, so I don't know if I can handle it. Grr... It's like if Brandon somehow wrote a horror novel. (Do those exist? Thrillers I guess...) I'd be totally conflicted. I can't even play shooters because they freak me out. Even things like Halo, Call of Duty or Splinter Cell are too scary for me. Yeah, Amnesia would send me catatonic I'm sure. For crying out loud, the part in the original Portal where you get out of the testing rooms and you're back behind the scenes almost made me shut the game off. I scare easily to say the least.
  7. Well, that's good to know I guess. I'll probably keep sporadically reading it. The author's writing style reminds me of my own a bit, and figuring out what I like and don't like about it is helping me figure out how I can improve my own stuff. Sorry, is comparing myself to a published author weird? I feel like it's weird...
  8. I'd like to announce that I'm thinking about making a mistcloak. But I have no idea how... My mom and sister are both pretty good with a sewing machine but I haven't the faintest idea how to use one. Any tips?
  9. Hahahahaha... NO. Yeesh, I cannot do horror at all! Not games, not movies, not anything. I'm such a wuss when it comes to that kind of stuff. I watched a little bit of Tobuscus's Dead Space playthrough and it freaked me out. I can't handle his videos of Amnesia: The Dark Descent either. My overactive writer's imagination takes horror concepts I see and churns them around in terrifying now iterations for weeks. It's awful. Seriously, the dwemer ruins in Skyrim are scary enough that I almost gave up that game. And they're not even supposed to be that scary.
  10. I'm about halfway through Eon. (I'm too cheap to buy it, so every now and then I go into B&N and pick it up again.) I've liked it okay so far, but it never really grabbed me. Does it get better?
  11. Hmm. They were at -2 when I got here, so I upvoted each of them again. Seriously guys? We're doing religious debate stuff over keteks? Do you think that it's not appropriate? Keteks are supposed to be a holy poetic form. The Vorins wrote keteks about the Almighty. For all we know, they might be offended by our secular keteks! (I don't think so, but who knows? Those ardents can be pretty uptight!) In my opinion, a ketek with religious content would be closer to canon than another subject. I mean, really. One of Studier's original poll questions was "Do you think Keteks are holy, admirable, or both?" And most people said both. Let's be mature here and not downvote anyone based on the subject of their Ketek please? Especially not over someone's religious beliefs. Please. We're just asking for a flame war here...
  12. Aw. Just watched Steven Spielberg's War Horse. What a heartwrenching film. Very well made too.
  13. I was rather surprised that it got Captain Sweatpants from Big Bang Theory on the first try. That was rather impresive. I could waste hours on this site.
  14. http://us.akinator.com/ Okay, this thing is ridiculously fun. I've been playing almost all day and it's scary how good it's AI is. It managed to guess Vin, Dalinar, and Kaladin on the first try, and Syl after 2 (it thought she was Winky the House Elf at first.) In the most amazing Non-Brandon thing it guessed, my sister managed to get The Scarf of Sexual Preference from A Very Potter Musical which blew my mind. Check it out! Edit: Oh yeah! It took it two tries to get Kelsier too. Durzo Blint came up first from the Night Angel trilogy. Which Hey! They are pretty similar! Edit 2: Finally stumped it with TenSoon! Ha!
  15. Funny you should mention non-slash Avengers fics, because that's exactly what mine is actually. I'm not much of a shipper, and I'm even less of a slash fan. Maybe it's because I'm heterosexual, and I've never actually been in a romantic relationship, but that kind of story just doesn't appeal to me. I'm okay with canon relationships - like there's a bit of Black Widow/Hawkeye in my fic, but it's very minor background stuff. Certainly not the point of the story. I actually classified mine as Humor and Action/Adventure. It's multiple chapters and over 10,000 words so far. Basically, Loki's managed to get away from the Avengers, but he needs to make plans quick. When he stumbles upon an all-girl's school with a serious case of Loki fever, might he have found the army he needs? It's just a silly bit of fun that I'm writing mostly for myself, though I've gotten some really nice reviews on it. Loki's definitely got the most screen time, though all the Avengers show up eventually. I try very hard to keep the characters as canon and in-character as possible, because I hate reading things that are OOC. I'd love to hear you guys' thoughts on it if you checked it out.
  16. Note to self: Sightless pit. Avoid at all costs. Thanks for that.
  17. Okay, if Renarin goes evil, I will seriously be unable to handle myself. Especially if it's jealousy from his brother being better at the masculine arts. The last thing I need is another overshadowed, second-best, younger brother who goes to the dark side, lashing out from his hurt and anger. (I'm not quite over Loki yet. Can you tell?) I don't think there's too much chance of that happening, though. Renarin seems way too sweet and he doesn't seem too jealous of Adolin. Even with Shardplate, I don't think he's going to go crazy with the new power or anything like that. Renarin is a more grounded character. He's more mature than that. I'm not sure what his purpose as a character will be yet, but I just don't see it as an antagonist. Though, this is Brandon we're talking about, so anything goes.
  18. I actually just got one. Whew. But I was planning to beg and plead for one from you... Haha. Yep, I'm FeatherWriter over there as well, though all I have is an unfinished Avengers fic that I'm in the middle of.
  19. No you guys! Kaladin can't be paired up with anyone because I want him all to myself! Haha, kidding. Though I have a feeling I'm not going to approve of any romantic interests for Kaladin anytime soon. I suppose I'm just a jealous, possessive fangirl that way. Ha. Kaladin/Adolin though? I'm not much of a shipper in the first place, and I'm even less inclined towards slash, though I am interested to see how their relationship develops. Non-romantically. I concur with what others have said: I think they'd make really great foils. While Adolin's an awesome person and a wonderful character, Kaladin's still trying to get over his hatred of all lighteyes. Dalinar's sacrifice helped that a little, but I have a feeling that Adolin kind of represents what Kaladin would find shallow. And I can't imagine that Adolin was thrilled with the way Kaladin ordered him around during the battle. There's definitely some interesting ground to cover there. If I had to pick a romantic relationship to root for, it'd probably be Renarin/Shallan. I just think they'd be adorably sweet together. And of course, Adolin would be trying to win Shallan's affections the whole time, and is baffled when she chooses his brother over him. It'd be adorable.
  20. I really ought to finish playing Skyrim. I'm such a wuss when it comes to scary stuff. My poor Khajiit girl is just sitting there in Blackreach, waiting for me to come back and find the Elder Scroll, because I chickened out at the idea of a humongous, underground, poorly-lit cavern crawling with Falmer. Seriously. The Falmer freak me out. I don't know if I can go back to that...
  21. I see your Gotye (can't read that name without thinking Gauthier, which is the French name it's based off. /nerd) and I raise you a Kimbra. Good Intent is quite catchy! And the music video is way cool!
  22. Yeah, after Korra ended, my feelings were rather "meh" too. The set up was really good and interesting, but they just didn't develop it well enough. It looked like it was going to have really awesome, season-long themes and acing conflicts, and it just kinda didn't. I'll probably watch the next season, but I hope they learn from some of the feedback they're getting about structure and plotting.
  23. I'm assuming you meant Allriane here. The girly, noblewoman Rioter who loves Breeze, right? Your points about girl's friendships in media is very interesting. It's not something I'd ever thought about. As a writer, I'm always on the lookout for common pitfalls that authors fall into with characters - so I loved reading through your analysis. I don't think I've ever really had a problem with antagonizing my female characters, but now that I think about it, it is very common in other works. Perhaps that's because I'm a girl, and my closest friends are all girls as well. Writing female friendships is just an extension of my life. It's saddening that writers miss out on the opportunity to write female friends, there's some really great kinds of relationships to explore here. I hope Brandon handles Shallan's mingling with other girls well. I'd love to get another female lead Shallan's age and have a really good friendship dynamic in the group. Though I have a feeling Shallan and Syl would get along well too...
  24. Well, the second season got greenlit very late in the game, so I'm guessing they had this all writen before they knew they were going to get to continue. So it kind of originally supposed to be the ending.
  25. No one's posted here since May? Okay, let's fix that. I've been listening to awesome swing music all day. Specifically, this: http://aqualuxury.tumblr.com/post/20785043069/swangyothang-a-lush-hour-long-housey-swingy Which the original post described as "A lush hour-long housey, swingy, electroswingy, boompty kinda musical treat!" I particularly liked one of the songs a ways in called "Vive le Swing" (because seriously. French swing music, what's not to love?) Here's that one:
