Book 4 Update #1 from Brandon
Winds Alight replied to What's a Seawolf?'s topic in Stormlight Archive
Please tell me I'm not the only one who's checking in on Brandon's homepage three times a day to see whether the bar went up. I know it might be waaaay too early, but still ... I dreamed of SA 4 last night ... I remember there was a lot of Adolin & Maya in it. I'd like that. But I also remember I didn't like much what happened. -
I just started to reread MB era 1 yesterday but I very strongly vote "go big or go home"-Kelsier into Slytherin. Like, 99 %. For the rest I'll voice my opinion as soon as I get deeper into it. It's been nine years, I can barely remember anything.

IKR? I believe that's it. That's the best scene. It just doesn't get better than this.

I almost said "Oathbringer", but I can't really decide. As I read all three books in a row a few weeks ago, all three endings are still pretty fresh in my mind and every ending is awesome and moving on its own. I love the way Dalinar just gives up his Blade for a few slaves and blows Kaladin's mind. This scene always makes me cry, just as I really enjoy Kaladin taking control fo the army at the Tower and ordering Adolin and Dalinar about. WoR had this epic battle between Szeth and Kaladin in the storms and frankly, that still is the scene I'd love to see on a big screen the most. The raw power of the storms and the fight just is soemthing else. And still, OB really was something else. I can't pick a favorite moment. Maybe when Renarin went "RAAAAAAAH!" against the thunderclast, or Adolin summoning Maya in seven heartbeats? Or was it Kaladin? Dalinar walking into battle with a book? Szeth, Lift and Nightblood? Jasnah very casually destroying the enemy without so much as undoing her hair? Rock with the shardbow? Teft as a 3rd Ideal Radiant? ... damnation, I'll need to reread the battle. Soon.

I totally forgot about the rope thing in WoR ... and I didn't know about Vasher coming to Roshar in the past! I just finished Warbreaker a few hours ago. It was againa great ride and I'm still amazed at the long way Vivenna has come. At the beginning, I couldn't have imagined to ever like her.
-
I believe with Jasnah we also have to bear in mind that in WoK, it's somewhat implied she may have been raped at some point in her life. (Remember her when she dealt with the robbers in Kharbranth and the way she talked about it to Shallan.) So while I don't necessarily read her as aro/ace, I do believe it is possible that she's not interested in anything remotely sexual. Another part of me thinks that a potential Jasnah x Kaladin relationship could be very interesting.

I love OB to the moon and back, but part 1+2 didn't have quite the impact other parts of the series had on me. Of course, with me, this had mostly to do with my unhealthy obsession with All Things Kaladin and the fact that his chapters during part one were mostly pretty short and he was away from everyone. When I got to part two and saw he didn't have a POV there at all I was really bummed out. (Which of course the Bridge Four POVs made up for but I didn't know that in advance.) I also didn't much like Shallans quest to find out what's wrong with Urithiru and the Re-Shephir arc. In part three I really started to like her chapters as well so when the crew arrived in Kholinar, I was completely invested.

Book 4 Update #1 from Brandon
Winds Alight replied to What's a Seawolf?'s topic in Stormlight Archive
I can't really imagine how books 3-4 would have went with the flashbacks in the original order, meaning Szeth in book 3 and Dalinar in book 5. OB wouldn't have worked at all without Dalinar as flashback character and his role in the story. So how would it have worked to have all this in book 5? The ending of OB was climactic, so maybe it could have been book 5 too? -
I don't really have a favourite order so far. I could say Windrunner, but that's mostly biased since that's the order we know most about and it's Kaladin's order which makes it the best anyway. Flying is also quite cool. But I also like Edgedancers a lot and frankly, I need more of the others to really form an opinion. Like how their Surges work (I want more basic Surgebinding info o.o), how they organize etc. What I definitely know is that Lightweavers aren't my favourites. I'm not a fan of illusions. Truthwatchers have healing powers which makes up for the Lightweaving. Same goes for Skybreakers; I reeeaaally am not a fan of "yay the L - A - W above all else!!!"

Is SA going to be two 5 books sagas?
Winds Alight replied to Xavier Iriarte's topic in Stormlight Archive
I believe Dalinar is 55-ish and the gap supposed to be about 10-15 years? 70 is old, but not too old to live. -
Has anyone suggested Aimia as hiding spot for BAM?
Winds Alight replied to Toaster Retribution's topic in Stormlight Archive
Plottwist: There's no Grand Evil hidden in Aimia, it's Honor. He's not dead, he just got tired of it all, went off to his private little islands and shut all down, initiating lots of stories about the evils hidden there so no one will ever bother to come looking what's actually there. -

Winds Alight replied to Xavier Iriarte's topic in Stormlight Archive
Yeaaaaaah, this. Maybe just in reversal to what we have now. We know from WOB that the flashback characters in arc 2 are going to be Lift, Renarin, Ash, Taln and Jasnah, and I expect those of our current batch to maybe be around like Lift, Renarin and Jasnah have been so far? Also, there is a very good chance, should some (read: Kal) not make it to arc 2, that I won't make it there as well. There are things I can take, and things I can't. (Kidding, I know I can't skip out on Lift, Renarin and Jasnah, but also kinda not kidding.) -

Iroh actually is the Stormfather. A less grumpy version of him that is. -
Book 4 Update #1 from Brandon
Winds Alight replied to What's a Seawolf?'s topic in Stormlight Archive
Everyone, there's now a progress bar on the outlining on Brandersons homepage!!! -
I might add more later when I'm at a computer though I'll most likely repeat what I already wrote in other threads. Me writing long posts on the phone is not going to happen. Like, ever.

Wow I don't think I ever disagreed more wholeheartedly with something than with your take on whether or not Adolin and Shallan are a good match. I understand every single one of your examples completely differently.

Welcome to The Cosmere then Keep an eye out for Hoid (I wasn't aware of this as well for a long time. I'm currently rereading Warbreaker with the Cosmere in mind. After that it's going to be Mistborn. I'm very excited for that!)

Oh sweet summer child, you have so much to discover x) In short: Warbreaker, as well as Stormlight (ans Mistborn + Elantris) are part of the same "universe", called the Cosmere. Everything is connected, and Oathbringer kiiiinda is a crossover between Stormlight and Warbreaker

Book 4 Update #1 from Brandon
Winds Alight replied to What's a Seawolf?'s topic in Stormlight Archive
Thanks for posting! I'm excited as storms for any updates in SA 4. I hope we'll get the first sneak chapter this year *-* -
I edited the post, though I am at a complete loss as to where I implied I "preferred" Adolin. I honestly don't get it. I said he serves the story well because he balances things out. No more. He's not my favourite character.
-
And you don't play "I know better than others how they mean things". You know what an exaggeration is, do you? No, I do not think people with mental health issues are dramaqueens. I never have. Believe it or not. Some (read: most) people do like Adolin. Some don't find him "bland". Me included.
-
This is not what I said and I'd be very grateful if you didn't read something like this into what I wrote, thank you.

Your Predictions for the Gap? (Book 5-6)
Winds Alight replied to Dalakaar's topic in Stormlight Archive
But they are, aren't they? I believe I read somewhere that the Tranquiline Halls are Ashyn (= the original human homeworld which humans destroyed and had to leave = "being cast out from the Tranq. Halls"). ... Which makes me think about some very interesting possibilities. Let's make the cast worldhop to the burning wreck that is Ashyn and see their "Tranquiline Halls" ... -
IMO Adolin does indeed grow - in a natural, healthy way, without his character changing completely. He learns from his experiences and acts accordingly. Not every single character needs dramatic (or traumatic) change to function. Adolin is an element of stability that serves the books well (we have enough dramaqueens - no, I'm not talking about mental health issues here, oh my Honor. This is a humorous exaggeration. I really thought that was obvious), without being static or appearing badly written. Sanderson talked about him in an interview a while back where he said that Adolin is so easy to write because he's straightforward and doesn't hold things back. That makes less room for Big Drama™, sure, but of that, we have enough.
