Long Game 36: State of Being
Orlok Tsubodai replied to Ecthelion III's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I don't see what use a discussion of marks presents, if not working out roles. Even revealing marks may tell the eliminators your role, if they have a member with the same essence mark. If they do not, you still reveal information to the eliminators, as they don't need to worry about you having roles that are on their team, narrowing the potential field of candidates further.- 684 replies

Long Game 36: State of Being
Orlok Tsubodai replied to Ecthelion III's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Manukos. Would you care to respond to my post last cycle discussing that whilst this generates information, it makes the eliminator's task far easier, through allowing them to potentially identify roles (either that they share, or pairing players with the same essence mark). You obviously disagree with my post, and I'm interested in your justification for encouraging a practice that will help the eliminators far more than the village.- 684 replies

Interesting. I note that you haven't actually said that your order to steal the remaining essence marks failed. Would you enlighten us as to the result achieved?- 684 replies

Long Game 36: State of Being
Orlok Tsubodai replied to Ecthelion III's topic in Sanderson Elimination
@STINK, if you fancy calling Phil's bluff, would you mind giving up your essence mark? I'm quite inclined to test the essence mark rules, too, and think it would benefit the village to ensure the information isn't concentrated in Alv's (or any one individual's) hands. I'm not sure that essence mark identification is necessarily the best idea. Yes, it generates discussion, but if there are duplicate marks, then single lynches and kills will allow the eliminators to identify multiple roles, which as a disadvantage outweighs the advantages generated from greater discussion and N0 identification of roles. It's essentially the same argument as PM safety, albeit to a slightly lesser extent. Further, it's possible that we might find a pattern identifying eliminators from the essence marks (I'm making the assumption that an essence mark can change your alignment). Whilst this would help the village win, it would come at significant cost to the enjoyment we derive from the game. I, for one, know I don't want to play a game that allows us to identify the eliminators without challenge. Equally, if I am right, any if us might be turned into eliminators by essence marks, and would so be disadvantaged by wide scale revealing of marks.- 684 replies

Long Game 36: State of Being
Orlok Tsubodai replied to Ecthelion III's topic in Sanderson Elimination
“Time flows like a river, and we are hurtling through it. Before the time of our destination, a god died. Its power raged through this Realm, destroying everything around it and converting it to pure energy, reaching out across Realms through space. Locke Tekiel, of noble blood and unparalleled lineage, was dead. Again. An occupational hazard, but nevertheless something difficult to grow used to. “As soon as the sun touches the horizon and the sky blazes red, use your Mark.” He pointed to one of the glowing objects. “Immediately at the sun’s fall—immediately before this land is ravaged by power—you must make the transition.” Locke was rather bemused at the authoritative tone taken by this hooded figure. He'd been through this process twenty three times already, and hadn't ever had to follow such ridiculous procedures. Bureaucracy could be a useful tool, but it was irritating to be on the receiving end. He was surprised that anyone had had the temerity to try to exert control over this passage, but wouldn't stay around to deal with it. He'd sort out his own passage, and head back to the ancestral estates for a while. He paused, letting the weight of his message sink in. He tried not to let his uncertainty show. Instead, he added wryly, “One last thing: I would recommend staying near the edge of this island—unless you fancy going for a swim.” A veiled threat, or subtle encouragement... Locke was unconcerned. Knights Radiant, Jeskeri Cultists, even Odium himself had all failed to keep him dead. He didn't think that this individual, whoever they were, would manage where they'd failed. Locke glanced around briefly. He recognised a few faces, a benefit of so many lives, but was surprised to be addressed. He responded, interested that someone dared to address him here. "Fascinating. I've never had a terribly strong relationship with Venture, and it's pleasing to know that they've been set back. I'll have to pay a visit to their Keep when I return, and send my regards. Your loyalty was really to such a minor House? I do hope you make it back safely. It would be a great shame to lose your chance at life for such an unimportant cause." @Yitzi2- 684 replies

Orlok Tsubodai replied to Seonid's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Apologies - somewhat busy right now. Further thoughts to follow. The salient point I'd make, Alv, is that Jondesu has never been a Parshendi. He's not a part of your team, and can't win with you. We're not lynching a Parshendi for the third cycle in the row. -

Orlok Tsubodai replied to Seonid's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I'm an Artifabrian, and have scanned Jondesu, who is a Ghostblood. Edit: I was roleblocked this cycle, and made the scan on D1. I don't think my vote should have been counted. -
Thanks for the clarity. As I've said, I certainly intend to sit on the sidelines, if only because it maximises the enjoyment of the game for the largest number of players. You have my word that I will not act against either the village or the eliminators unless my win condition is threatened by continued inaction.

@Seonid, with such a threat, you make an implicit assumption that I have already agreed. I haven't got communication with the rest of the neutral players, and certainly can't agree on their behalfs. I think the game will be the most fun for both sides if as neutral players we stay out of it, and give you my word that at present, it is indeed my intention to do just that.

Mid-Range Game 23: A Desperate Alliance
Orlok Tsubodai replied to Seonid's topic in Sanderson Elimination
@cloudjumper, best to differentiate between Elenion and Elbereth? From (quite a wealth of) experience, I can tell you that Elbereth goes by El. It's clear who you are voting on, but I'd rather put confusion to bed now. -
Glad to see your reevaluation, Cloud. I think what you've done is absolutely fine. We're late in the game, with sparse posts, and you had very different content in the two posts.

All of you have been active this cycle, according to you profiles. -
@cloudjumper, you assume that as neutrals, we'd vote with the eliminators. We'll be forced to do so, though, or at least to work in a way that hinders the village, unless this lynch goes through. If it does, we can stay to the side, and give you the breathing room to fight this out. @STINK, would you mind voting with us on this, given the help Wilson and I have given you?

Flash, at some point we can force this through regardless. Even in your ideal world, lynching an eliminator every turn, the eliminators also remove a villager each turn. Right now, the numbers are likely to be 8-4-6. In three turns time, it might be 5-1-6, at which point the neutral players outnumber the village, and can force this through. At any point, we could work with the eliminators openly, it being 8-10 if we did, but it's certainly better for the village, and our neutrality, if this goes through this turn, leaving it 7-4 going into the next day. This turn is now mostly over, and there is limited time for another lynch discussion. If we don't lynch Joe today, we'll try again, and the village will lose another cycle of discussion.

They'll probably claim shortly. They have an interest in Joe's demise, and I'd rather neither side killed them.

@Seonid, we made a deal with Aman, whereby I had Eponine protect Rae the cycle Aman died, in return for his supporting a lynch on Joe. Now, clearly things didn't work out, and Aman was targeted that cycle, not Rae, but we held up our end of the bargain. Aman had said that he'd PM other villagers to inform them of our agreement, but clearly hasn't. Whether or not you wish to abide by his bargain is up to you, but it's something tangible we've done. In this scenario of yours, Seonid, essentially no ground is gained or lost as a result of this lynch. It's net neutral. Your conjectured neutral-eliminator bloc loses a player, and one would presume that the eliminators would kill a villager tonight. Wilson, on the other hand, achieves her win condition. Merely thinking on my feet, now, but the neutral players relative strength as a bloc will increase as the game progresses. If we don't force this through now, we will be able to do so later in the game, after another mislynch or two, and you essentially pigeon hole us into working with the eliminators to achieve it. If you let the lynch through, we can continue to be truly neutral, and so avert significantly increased pressure on the village.

Roadwalker, I think you also overestimate the degree of communication we have as a faction. Unlike you, we don't have a doc. Such a gambit might be possible now, but is unlikely, unless it's happened unilaterally. Later in the game, it's more feasible, as our number of PMs will increase. -

@Drake Marshall, I suspect he also scanned Elenion in order to verify your scan, and so allow us to not merely take your word for it.
