Fixed. I believe the last correction you have (Its instead of It's) was actually fine in the original. He's saying "I did something wrong in this book. It's lack of proper foreshadowing", meaning "I did something wrong in this book. It is lack of proper foreshadowing" (e.g. the thing he did wrong was the lack of proper foreshadowing). That was confusing to type, but hopefully that makes sense.

A way to flag conflicting WoBs. That way, once flagged, a mod could step in and say "Superceded by [linked WoB]" to avoid confusion. Or if Brandon misspoke, or changed his mind later, we could seek clarification, or at least know that the answer isn't exactly what we first thought.

Some of the WoBs already have footnotes in them (which is freaking amazing, great work by the people who entered all of those). Are you looking for something more extensive than that?

  3. Sorry to double post, but here's another one where the Questioner is mislabeled as Brandon (he writes so fast he even writes questions for himself!).

  4. This is a little nitpick but I'll put it here anyway. Just a typo from the original transcript.

As for read functionality... That's a nontrivial feature. Mid 2018 at earliest, but I don't think it should be prioritized. I'm also not sure it is truly necessary as when new stuff is out you'll just read the new event once.

Yeah I definitely agree it shouldn't be a priority. It would probably be most helpful for newer fans who haven't read all the older stuff yet.

  6. Mislabeled Brandon as Questioner. I also had to underline instead of highlight because I'm on mobile (edited to be highlighted).

When you have edition privileges, there's a player bar on the edition page. Is it what you're suggesting?

Probably, but I don't have editing privileges so I can't say for sure. It was suggested in the WoB Corrections thread because it'll help with making corrections.

  8. This will be a thread for people to add their suggestions and requests for new features for the new WoB archive. I will try to update the original post when people add things so there is a complete list in the OP. If any of the developers for Arcanum have a better way of tracking this sort of thing, I'm open to that as well (and would offer to maintain/organize that list as well). I'm trying to grab things that people post on Reddit as well, but those may be harder to catch, so if you see anything I've missed there feel free to send it to me or post it in the thread. Also, if I grab one of your Reddit posts and you want me to credit you here, let me know.

    Feature Suggestions:

    Audio

    - A way to scrub through audio clips to help with transcription (fast forward/rewind/scroll through). Status: Definitely wanted, hopefully coming mid-2018.

    Browsing/Site Design

    - Links at the bottom of event pages to the previous/next chronological event for ease of wasting hours reading through them without realizing how much time has passed.

    - Search sorting, such as by date ascending or descending (from @neithan). Filtering by location or time might also be useful.

    - A daily random WoB on the homepage (from @Steeldancer). Status: probably will happen at some point, but unsure when. It would be relatively easy, but it's low priority.

    - Recent Entries/Recent Events pages (mentioned by Chaos on Reddit). Status: very likely but unsure exactly when.

    - A dark colored theme (from u/Khalku on Reddit).

    User Account Features

    - A way of tracking which events/WoBs have been read (similar to 17th Shard user functionality). Status: non-trivial, would be mid-2018 at earliest, but may not be worth the trouble.

    - A way to like WoBs and the ability to look at all your personal liked WoBs in a list format (from @thegatorgirl00). Specifically to have a saved list and to be able to make a sub-list from that. Status: High-priority!

    - Once saved entries are implemented, a way to have public and private lists (from @Oversleep).

    - User pages like 17th Shard has (from @thegatorgirl00).

    - Linking named questioners to their user pages (from @thegatorgirl00).

    - Notifications when something new is uploaded (from u/mbue on Reddit).

    Integration with 17th Shard/Coppermind

    - A way to easily quote WoBs in threads on 17th Shard with nice formatting (from @MasterJack). Status: Kurkistan is toying with an idea.

    Editing

    - Editing enabled for all users (both for actual text and for tags). Status: being worked on now. Until this is possible, corrections can be submitted in this thread:

I have a question on the recording, since that's mine. To clarify, we need to send it to Peter? The transcripts, or the audio?

    Brandon Sanderson

    The transcripts.

    Lurcher

    Of all three days?

    Brandon Sanderson

Yeah. *inaudible*, they're gonna cut out almost all of this. Run it by him There's a question I'm trying to remember where I flubbed yesterday. I can't even remember what the question was. A lot of times, you're sitting here, and you're just, like, brain dead as people are coming through, and they say something and you're like "Yeah, uh-huh."' And then, you're like, "Wait, no. That's not even the question they asked." I'm pretty sure I got the important words right, but send it through him. It's a practice that I want to get in the habit of doing.

And he sometimes will have all these things all in the notes, so he gets them, and can add them to make sure they're in the notes, for continuity and stuff.

  10. This entry is missing any text/tags, but it does have the audio source there. Not sure if this has already been transcribed somewhere but I went ahead and wrote it down anyway.

Also a feature suggestion: previous/next event links at the bottom of the page (like 17th Shard has). If we could get some way of tracking which events/WoBs an account has read that would be incredibly cool (but that's probably harder).

    Brandon Sanderson

That is quite the question. I will eventually answer that, but you are getting Read-and-Find-Outed. It is intentionally a bit of a mimicry of something else that happened in the past.

  11. This is so exciting! I have a small correction to make to one of my own questions (because I'm a narcissist and looked at the event I was at first). Basically, the reference missed Brandon's response and attributed my follow-up question as something he said. Side note: it's very strange to click play on a website and hear yourself speaking.

Based on the description of the mechanics surrounding the filter, I feel very strongly that it's describing the focus, as the mechanisms surrounding foci has been described very similarly. Note that how the power goes through the focus is how the Cosmere mechanics are manipulated in a manifestation of investiture.

I actually interpreted this pretty much the opposite way. It sounds to me like he's discussing different ways that Shards could provide access to the fundamental forces while producing the same effect, rather than different effects within the system of one (or two) Shards. Honor accesses gravity through bonds, meaning that you manipulate gravity in Honor's system by bonding with an object or a direction. Another Shard with a different system could access the same force, gravity, through a different mechanism (perhaps altering local gravity so that it affects you and objects around you in a small radius, as a theoretical example). That doesn't have anything to do with foci; it's about the differences between separate magic systems.

  13. As far as I'm aware, the answer to most of these questions is "We don't know". Brandon hasn't said much via WoB about the religions of modern Scadrial (whether because people haven't asked him or because he doesn't want to give too much away). I'll check the books when I get home tonight to see if we've missed any information. But I would guess that if we had much more info, it would already be on the Coppermind. (Also if you have any information from the books that isn't there, feel free to add it yourself!)

But Szeth's survival is pretty significant. You'd have so many casual fans who are super confused in Oathbringer.

Do we have Szeth viewpoint chapters confirmed in Oathbringer? I can't remember. In any case, I think that's fine because the other characters don't know about Szeth surviving either. So if he shows up again, the casual fans will have the same reaction as the characters.

Hey guys I just realized something. Am I the only one who thinks that Vasher being Zahel in Roshar is somehow going to complicate things? I mean, I know if the movies get made they don't have to put too much backstory since they can pretty much just introduce elements over the course of the movie series - but what about Nightblood?

The bit where Nale finally revealed he had Nightblood with him was doubly shocking because a lot of people who've read TSA have also read Warbreaker, but to a movie audience that particular bit isn't going to be shocking because there isn't any context to it. Either people aren't going to be surprised because they'll be like - Oh look a dark shardblade! Wonder where that mysteriously uptight man got it? - or they'll be like - I've read the books I've seen this coming typical random things people who know the book say about movies made after them yada yada yada - and well, you see where I'm getting at.

I know this is a very minor point but I'm just very curious about this.

I actually see this in exactly the opposite way. I would do that scene as a post-credits thing like Marvel does in all their movies. It's a cool thing for the people who know what's going on, and people are conditioned at that point to see that sort of thing and think "Okay, I don't know this yet but it will be important in a later movie". I don't see that connection being a problem at all. You can include Zahel in the movie and make a Warbreaker prequel later on, like with X-Men Origins: Wolverine (or even Rogue One, from a certain point of view).

  16. I would say if you look at Hrathen's storyline from his perspective, it's an Icarus story.

    Elantris spoilers:

    Spoiler

He is immensely successful in his pursuits and has risen through the ranks of his organization, until he realizes that he was wrong to do that the whole time. His story ends on a low note, with him essentially regretting his actions and sacrificing himself. It's a tragic story.

... with the minor caveat that Taravangian claims that one of the seven was stolen from the Shin recently.

Assuming that he wasn't lying to dflect Szeth's frustrations, of course, which is always possible.

I think it's very likely that Mr. T was lying to Szeth, personally, but I'm not sure if we have any WoBs that specifically confirm that. When I read the scene, with the context of Taravangian wondering how Szeth will react when he finds out the Voidbringers are back, it seems likely to me that Taravangian was worried that Szeth would stop obeying him and kill him on the spot if he found out that there was a real Surgebinder out there. But until we get that info in the book or via WoB, the summary up above does have a small asterisk on it.

  18. 4 hours ago, TamagoDono said:

IIRC in one of Szeth's interludes he said the Shin had I think 7 honourblades in their possession

Yep, so the current status is as follows:

The Shin have 7 of the blades (all those except Jezrien's, Nale's, and Taln's)

    Kaladin/Dalinar has Jezrien's Honorblade.

    Nale has his own Honorblade.

Taln's Honorblade is missing, and all we know is that Hoid is not the one who took it.

I may be alone, but my interpretation of everything that's been said about MAG (in the book itself and outside it) is that things that have appeared in the books before it are correct and things that haven't are close to, but not spoilers, for what's actually happening - so that there can be some sort of game published.  F:Aluminium turns out to be Spiritual Identity, not Personal.  F:Nicrosil is Investiture, and still weird!

Given that once The Lost Metal is out we won't get any more Metallic Arts info for years (and I don't see a huge amount extra becoming clear in TLM either), what we have in the MAG and can tease out of Branderson is literally all we have to speculate on the remaining effects.

I'll be over here, in my own little world. :)

I'm not really going to count on whether the MAG book itself says it's canon, to be honest. If it isn't canon, they can say whatever they want, but it isn't canon. Brandon has said many times that what is published in the Cosmere books is canon and that's it. Even things that he says aren't truly canon until they are published (see his current changing of how savantism works as an example). You can disagree and formulate theories based on MAG as much as you want, but it's just not solid evidence in my view.

  20. Alright folks, I just finished going through the Sunday Signing Line audio to see if I could figure out some of the paraphrased stuff. I got most of it down verbatim, so I think we're basically all done with these transcriptions! Thanks everyone for all the hard work, and thanks especially to @ccstat, @Ironeyes, and @DAdam for making recordings and uploading them! I've updated the OP to reflect the finished statuses of the Sunday signing and the Rithmatist Q&A.

  21. @Vecna I like the diagram a lot, good design. In general, the Mistborn Adventure Game isn't really canonical, so I don't think we can base theories off of it with much confidence. I agree that this way of dividing things up makes sense, but unfortunately we can't prove anything until more books come out or Brandon decides to be generous with his answers.
